    Schiphol was one of my favorite airports to fly into. Highly professional controllers and their English is impeccable. Some say they are easier to understand than Boston Controllers.

    Just to add some context to the arrivals at Schiphol. Where the security level of the departure country is not up to our standard or a 100% check is needed, is when you get to go first passed security and then into the main terminal for non Schengen flights. The USA has a security level that is on par with EU so you just enter the main area from there you go to reclaim where you first pass border and then customs. This only applies to non Schengen flights with Schengen flights you just enter the terminal and either go to reclaim or go to the border control point that sits between the two areas.

    Your effort into making these is definitely noticeable, I am a huge fan of your illustrations on the jeppesen charts, it really adds to the story. Out of curiosity, why did you sell your car/ whats your short-term verdict vs the Hyundai

    • @geekontheflightdeck
      @geekontheflightdeck  4 місяці тому +2

      The Hyundai is fantastic but I was spending $540 a month on it. More than I need for an airport/secondary car. The Chevrolet is $187 a month all in.

    • @MajorLazer182
      @MajorLazer182 4 місяці тому

      @@geekontheflightdeck Say no more... even if the Hyundai would be the better car (which I don't know if it is), that's a significant difference. The Chevy looks pretty neat, don't have it here in Europe

    It is interesting and fascinating to hear you break down your duties like this. The other UA-cam pilots don't go into so much detail. It's interesting that a training captain was now flying the triple 7 for the first time. I thought that once you switched aircraft you get bumped back down to FO. Or is it because he was already working at for several years as a captain at Kirkland Airlines?
    I also find it fascinating that he switched from Airbus to Boeing. I often wonder about whether or not pilots held type ratings across aircraft companies like this and what it took to maintain the status of your type rating.

    • @geekontheflightdeck
      @geekontheflightdeck  4 місяці тому

      At this (and every United States Airline I know of) it’s pure Company seniority that determines what aircraft and seat you can fly. No requirement to fly a plane as a FO before Captain. Thank you for the kind words. I try to keep it down to earth

    Quirky question Darren, but inspired by the ironed shirt mention - if you spill on your shirt, will the airline pay for the hotel to launder/dry cleaners, or is that on you? I'm assuming you always take a second shirt.

    • @geekontheflightdeck

    Hello Darren, student pilot here, I had a quick question for you: Do airlines in the states track a pilots radiation exposure? I just finished watching pilot Pascalklr’s video on what you should know before becoming an airline pilot and he mentioned that at his airline the company has a tracking system for radiation exposure, specifically because his flights take him over Greenland. Love your videos!

    • @geekontheflightdeck
      @geekontheflightdeck  4 місяці тому

      Thanks for the kind words. I think radiation is more of an issue near the poles. My airline does not track it. We do have ozone scrubbers and I wear long sleeve shirts to limit my exposure.

      Being married? Cadillac Catera, Toyota Matrix XRS, Acura TSX, Mazda5, Toyota Prius (Bought for my wife and I got her old Prius), BMW I3, Tesla Model 3, Smart ED, Bolt, Bolt EUV ("free due to Original Bolt recall), Model X Plaid, Ioniq 5, and now Chevrolet Equinox EV. The Model X Plaid is my fun car. So 14 in 22 years but really 13 because one Bolt didn't count. Longest was my Model 3 and i3 each for 4 years. Shortest was the Ioniq 5 at 7 months. Yeah I have a problem. Glasses are cheaper. Ha.

      @@geekontheflightdeck September 2022. Exit the plane and follow a route that has no access to a restroom until you go through passport control. Collect your bags and then you exit out to the public side. There could be some confusion with my 2023 trip to FRA. Flew into CDG 5 times post 2005.

      You were referring to the airport. I thought you referring to the hotel and flight attendants. Most don’t mix inbound and outbound passengers.

    • @arjansnoek7257
      @arjansnoek7257 3 місяці тому

      @@geekontheflightdeck It all depends on the origin of the flight. If the origin airport meets the criteria, the passengers are seen as properly checked. Otherwise the passengers will exit the airplane in a sterile environment from where you go through security checks for connections or exit through border control and customs.
      US airports meet those criteria, so no checks for connecting passengers.
