Katharsis is a greek word which translates to "catharsis" in english literature which literally means letting go of long held emotion / releasing the built up tension, just thought this is interesting, my apologies for late comment i recently started studying philosophy and rereading tokyo ghoul and finding astonishing resemblance between both mediums and how awesome it actually is
In its literal meaning it means : to cleanse, purge. It's the purification of emotion through art or any extreme change in emotion that results in renewal and restoration. We learned in Ancient Literature in school (greek-cypriot). We had to read oedipus,iliad and odyssey. It was a lesson once a week, but boring the way they portrayed in class.

I'm just gonna spit straight facts real quick, this is the best anime opening dub channel out of the bunch, being honest, you still keep to the same mood that the original openings have. Not only that, but you actually pull it off, making it sound on par with the originals.

A lot of anime nowadays has crappy main characters. My Hero Academia is a good example I feel like, Deku has barely had any character development and it's already Season 5 of MHA. Don't get me wrong, MHA is a great anime. But everyone loves Todoroki more than Deku because he actually has flaws.
I love that this song has such an opposite tone to Identity. Here the person is stuck, confused, burning and wants the rain to heal his wounds. Afraid of going forward and trying to atone for his sins. In Identity the lyrics are about breaking out and using that inner heat to rise above and soar to his future. It’s full of determination and confidence.

Poor Kaneki, and to think Hide was the one who told him to go after her, I wonder if anyone ever realises that. I'm not saying it Hide's fault, he didn't know, but if he hadn't have said anything, Kaneki would have never talked to Rize. It just makes me think how his like would be if he hadn't had met her....
It´s beautiful how Kaneki states at the end that even if he knew about everything that would have happened to him before meeting Rize, he would have still gone and met her that day, "Cause all of it was necessary".

I was reading the lyrics but then when the last one of the chorus came on, I realized what it was saying. I literally cried. It's funny because my family calls me a robot for never crying when we're watching anything. Even in the saddest of scenes. But anything sad in Tokyo Ghoul (Hide's death scene) gets me crying. Even songs like this gets me, Glassy Sky, On My Own, Katharsis, Lychtund Schatten, Remembering etc. Anytime I listen to them I cry. Funny huh? A single anime can make me cry and yet millions of movies don't effect me. Although ever since I watched Tokyo Ghoul I have been a bit more "emotional" where I feel like I'm gonna cry but I don't. But really, good job on this! It's an amazing cover! Plus, it makes sense with the story. I'm still crying. ;-;

Every Tokyo ghoul op has a part with constant contradictory. This is due to Ken kanekis constant inner conflict throughout he anime. Now i have successfully made you never think of a Tokyo Ghoul op the same. An example quoted from this song in particular 'It has to be me, no it cant be me', this line is also repeated in the song
This one is supposed to be a bit sad dramatic one but how you did well in it made me really happy whenever I listen to it I smile and feel calm
