just saw this english cover and i have two ways to view this,
One; Kaneki: this song could resemble Kaneki losing during his first battle with Arima, getting defeated then losing his memories and becoming Haise.
Two; Haise: This song could also mean Haise is slowly dying; or suffocating as he slowly finds out about himself and his past and then at the last moment, (thus the first line in the song; A prisoner of the night (Haise) hiding a small child (Kaneki) taking a final breath (or fading away/dying)
letting go and giving in getting shattered piece-by-piece and finally becoming Kaneki Ken once again.
Its Haise, Tokyo Ghoul OPs always foreshadow like √A OP foreshadowed that the majority of the cast will pay for their sins and will die while someone is far away(Touka, Hinami and Kaneki).....here Haise believed that his loved ones(quinx squad, Arima, Jouzo and Akira) might save him and he won't ever get his memory back but that did not happen, also the love was now same as before. And again LOVE was the reason Kaneki turned into his Dragon form.
Plus this could also describe Eto\Sen Takatsuki(read the manga) and Kaneki's similarities.
I think it is a back and forth between Haise Kaneki.
This song is the connection between haise and kaneki
while Kaneki was walking he was forcing his memories back and also while he was fighting and then he got hit in the eye and he became unconscious and when he woke up he didnt know his name so he insisted that he should be named Haise

I love Cö Shu Nie. Probably my favorite jpop/rock band that can be considered "new" and I love that they got some good gigs in Tokyo Ghoul (a trainwreck with good music) and Promised Neverland (a lot of people's anime of the season)
