Nice video! I thought it was Wade Barrett from NXT doing commentary😁😁
Awesome video!!!
I look up the Liberty class cruiser and there you are with your new video! Just six hours old, lucky me :D
Can you make videos on Legend of the Galactic Heroes?
I still think the whole "converted passenger liners" is like the CEC "freighter" designation: Plausible deniability to produce warships under Imperial noses.
Shades of the Dornier 17 bomber’s genesis as a *cough* high-speed mail plane.
@@Assassinus2 The He-111, C-47, Ju-52, and Fw-200 starting out as passenger planes be like:
@@sirboomsalot4902 yeah but those are planes, outside of the USS langley which was more of a proof of concept all warships are purpose built to be warships and nothing else.
That's basically what it is, at least in Legends canon.
@@jonashemmingsson7301 Legends canon took the "converted liners" seriously, IIRC. At least at first, and the old West End RPG Rebel Sourcebook had new ships of the same designs being slowly pumped out, with enough of a guard force to hold off most sector/oversector fleets, but a major fleet would be too much. My headcanon has the Mon Calla/Dac shipyards equal to KDS, and produced a mix of civilian and military designs, and the sector governor is a Rebel sympathizer that feeds the ISB and other intelligence agencies the cover story. If I ever run a Star Wars RPG again (using the old d6 system... especially with the FFG re-release of the 1st edition and my own collection of 2e stuff), the PCs would be working under Craken to prevent the Imps from discovering the truth.

Such a beautiful ship. While I certainly love the dagger shaped built Kuat Drive Yard Star Destroyers it's hard to ignore both the Mon Calamari Quarren built ships that rivaled those space daggers on so many levels.
I absolutely love the Recusant class Destroyer
@@michaelcarney6280 I love the Providence class myself. That and the Venator are my 2 favorite of the Star Wars Universe. So hard to choose.
Mon Calamari, Quarren.

@@PennsyPappas LOL! NW mate! ;o)
Mon Cala hands know how to make miracles. Just think these ships were meant for exploration then turned into warships. But when they put actual warships to work you get beauties like the MC-90. Respect towards my aquatic brothers. The alliance couldn’t have gotten by without ya.
Star Trek has done similar -Constitution- and Galaxy-class cruisers and Intrepid-class science vessels were both explorers that made effective warships when pushed into the role.
@@bobojo37 I am not that a dedicated star trek fan but still like them alot. But it always amused me how there were kids on galaxy class ships. Like those ships are still armed heavily so it's like the federation knows those ships will get into trouble in their exploration.
Then we have the legendary Viscount class.
Reminds me of the original Tau Battle Fleet Gothic ships (I know RotJ came out first). First ships were the Explorer class which were massive until they made the more economical Merchant Class but that class couldn't hold its own against Ork Kill Krusers. When they met the Imperium, they tried to copy the Lunar Class with their Hero class.

1:44 "the shields of the liberty type are extremely powerful compensating for the vessels below average hull armor"
Probably not the best clip for this sentence...
“The shields of the Liberty type are extremely powerful”
Shows an MC80 being destroyed by an ISD 2
To be fair, the octuple turboblasters barbettes of the ISD 2 are known for packing quite a punch. For example, I once saw one destroy an MC80, despite their extremely powerful shields.
it had just been infiltrated to take out an ion cannon, which caused a CR90 to crash into it. perhaps the damage inflicted during this caused the shields to be weaker/patchy
Keep in mind, despite what disney shows, the ISD 1 and 2 packed 60 HEAVY ion cannons, as well as 60 turbolasers and 8 octuple barbette heavy turbolasers.
In legends, even with the introduction or the mc90, mc80b and even the legendary Nebula class star destroyer, no ship managed to measure up to the ISD line, wich is why it lasted for decades.
The Mc80 liberty type had strong shields, but in a one to one it would've always succumbed due to a lackluater of offensive capability, it relied on starfighters more than anything
@@michelecastellotti9172 I mean the irony of talking about how powerful they are while simultaneously showing one being destroyed.
@@Astrobaut oh yeah, yeah many makes that mistake, i mean, he could've used the image with the phrase "despite this, in a one on one engagement, the mc80 liberty type was no match for imperial star destroyers and heavily relied on its fighter complement to weaken the enemy ship" wich is lore accurate.
"...the emperor's death..."

Mon Calamari ships are just gorgeous and one of my all time favorite ship designs within Star Wars.

“The shields and hull are extremely powerful”
*Shows it being blown up effortlessly*
@@averyreuber1150 Actually, no, the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer and the MC80 are both in Zero Range (I think that's what it was called), basically, the shields of both ships are useless because in that range the energy of the weapons is just too much for the shields
@@nicolasheredia956 No. They are just less effective. But from what I saw the shields of the MC80 weren't even up.
@@projectpitchfork860 yeah, probably because of the cr90 that just crashed into it
You gotta love that they added WINGS to this design to make it look even cooler
I think they are meant to be fins, remember the Mon Calamari are an underwater species and the majority of their ships are Submersible.
One of the all-time best ship designs
Could you do a review of the Terran Dominion behemoth Class cruiser from Starcraft
Hell yes.
Since X-Wing Alliance, my favorite spaceship ever. Love it.
Looking forward to seeing more on these beauties. MC-30B, MC-75, MC-80 - and the varients (wingless liberty, and Independence-class) and maybe the Mon Romonda (MC-80B)...
Not to forget the Mc-40s!
I was waiting for this since i found the channel
You should collab with EC Henry.
the most ambitious crossover of this young decade
So hyped about this video as this is my flagship for my rebel fleet in armada
The role in the various engagements and technical specs of the MC80 aside:
i think it's a ship with beautiful ship design as well.
The Mon Cals hard-carried the Rebellion in the space-battle department. The Rebels' MC-series flagship had a Mon Calamari admiral calling the shots, for goodness's sake. You wanted to blow up some Star Destroyers, you went to Ackbar and all of his trap-detecting memery.
I love these cruisers, my favorite capital ships in Star Wars . Every time I see one duel a star destroyer in games, movies and comics my eyes light up!
Nice vid well done! I really enjoy learning about this in-depth lore it helps flesh out the star wars universe for me
Mon Mothma: "Make not mistake, the Mon Calamari saved the galaxy."
CCS Battlecruiser. I've been gone, but I'm back baby!
Rebellion-era MC80 Mon Calamari Cruisers are without a doubt my favorite capital ship in all of Star Wars. I'm not even sorry.
Awesome channel! i discovered it a few days ago. Tons of interesting videos to watch :D.
Do you have plans to do videos about Elite Dangerous ships?
One thing I have always been curious about and that we rarely see...is where are the gun batteries/ports on Mon Cal cruisers? Like they are barely shown as firing their weapons and when they do...we rarely see the weapons they fired from (bar battlefront 2)...mostly laser bolts appearing from the ship.
I seen there turrent there small if you play campaing go slow and see bf2
great job on the narration, Alasdair!
When your MC-80s outnumber the Imperial Star Destroyers... That feels good.
Ah those Mon Calamari ships are always awesome
Love the Liberty Type. It's one of my mainstay capital ships in EAW.
I haven't watched a spacedock video in a while, why is the voice over a different person? What happened?
Nothing has happened Alasdair just sometimes reads

Another great ship breakdown.
I would be interested in more Space Battleship Yamato content ^^
Mon Calamari vessels were also extremely accurate which compensated their limitations. I remember reading that in the original 'A Guide to the Star Wars Universe' back in '85.
finally more mon´calamary ships
Resistance is facing their Last Stand: *Spends the entire movie running away*
Rebellion facing their Last Stand: "Get closer! We can take some of them with us!"
To be fair, it's not like the Rebellion actually had anywhere to run
@@tTaseric Also, to be fair, the Rebel Alliance was made up largely of either seasoned clone wars veterans (like Ackbar), longtime resistance fighters (like Cassian) or Imperial defectors. The resistance seems more like an armed mob than an organized, disciplined fighting force.
Well the rebels wanted to run away when they realised it was a trap
Notice how there is no movie footage of mon-cal cruiser firing a weapon? Spacedock's in on the conspiracy.
Actually in the background in the battle of endor, you can see the cruiser firing at a star destroyer, so that conspiracy is bs
I cannot say exactly why, but the look of these ships (and their brethren) with all the rounded protrusions all over the hull has always bothered me. I think it has to do with the aquatic nature of the design itself. Sure spaceships have more in common with submarines than airplanes or surface combatants (generally speaking), but to my eyes something like an ISD or a Retribution class battleship (wh40k), or even BBY-01 Yamato (Space Battleship Yamato, which has a bunch of rounded protrusions itself, but not nearly as many) are what I think of as aesthetically pleasing for their given settings.
(Obviously something like the Yamato or Arcadia (Harlock) or Sovereign class from ST are more graceful than a Retribution class battleship which is essentially a cross between a battleship and gothic cathedral, but that is not what I am talking about here.)
I understand the lore behind them, as well as the realworld need to make them distinct from the ships they would be fighting. But something just always seems off about them to my eyes. This makes it somewhat jarring for me to see when they are displayed prominently on screen.
I wonder if anyone else feels like this about the Mon Calamari designs.
addendum: If you love these ships, I have absolutely nothing against that. This is just my personal opinion. Please do not take this as me talking trash about your own opinion. (I hate that I have to add stuff like this to the end of a comment of this nature as it should be obvious, but you know how the internet works.....)
Can you please cover the Valor Class Cruiser from the Old Republic. I loved your Video on the harrower!
These things are very hard targets, but watching one burn is soooo satisfying. Long live the Emperor.
Below average hull armor... These craft had been build with ocean depths in mind meaning their hulls had been some of the strongest. Might want to update this one.
You should go over some of the ships from moonbase 12, a short LEGO stop motion series on UA-cam, it’s got a couple cool ships
I love how passenger liners shoved with some boom boom guns is better than a ISD which is designed to be a warship
Mon Cals make beautiful organic-looking ships
pseudo-organic. The Vong would very much like to argue your description.
Beef up the armor and it's a damn good ship
Those three dislikes were Admiral Ozzel, Piet and the Emperor
How does the rebel Alliance supply and maintain battleships? Most nations these days can barely scrape together a frigate and the rebels support multiple ships of the line. They use the force I guess?
Thank heavens! I've been waiting for this! This is arguably my favorite sci-fi starship, beating out the Klingon Vor'cha and the Federation Akira.
Another one of my MOST favorite Starships in Star Wars!!!
ABSOLUTELY fraking enjoyed watching this one right here.
ITS A TRAP !!! - Admiral Ackbar
"Piett, you FOOL!" - Iden's old man
Do you think you are ever going to cover The Phalanx from 40k?
I may be biased, but it is a good ship.
strike cruiser breakdown please?
Very capable, heavy ship design. Used successfully for remote fleet group operations. They made for good carriers, enabling the Alliance to do their famous or infamous starfighter raids, depending on which side of the political aisle you were on. 😁😁
Yay! New Episode. And can you do the Adamant frigate or Arachne cruiser from battlestar galactica deadlock please?

“It’s a Trap!”
I just want to reiterate : The Mon Calamari CANE IN CLUTCH!
"from which the Empire would never recover"
Darth Krayt's reaction to that information:
Darth Krayts is powerless against the overwhelming power of Mickey Mouse and the Disney Empire, which has decided that Darth Krayt never existed and is now just fan fiction.

General Question:
Have you covered any of Jack Campbell’s _(John G. Hemry)_ work.
If not known, he’s former navy that writes about space naval warfare. Good Stuff.

can you do some videos about the series space 2063. i found the chiggy von richthofen parts with the experiemential chig fighter amazing.
For the rebellion
"So you're a passenger liner? Awfully well armed for one, who are you usually carrying?"
"Uhhhhh, Marines.... biologists, marine biologists."
"Well that does make sense considering how much water Mon Cala has, carry on."
Now do warships from the legacy era: 100+ years after a new hope.
You know it’s quite interesting to see that previous streamline ships we’re used by the evil confederacy of independence systems, but now the streamline ships are good thanks to the Mon Calamari cruisers. Compared to the Star Destroyer line, they turned from good to evil.
Many CIS ships were designed on Mon Cala by the Quarren, the rival species to the Mon Calamari.
Do you play Star Wars Armada?
WRONG dimensions !!! Liberty Class MC 80 has 8000 foot lenght . The ILM model has 8 foot lenght and it's 1/1000 scale . The Calamari has the same width from Imperial Star Destroyer as you can see in the Endor's Battle . But , Meanwhile SD has a 1.8 ratio dividing length by width, the MC has 2.5 ratio, so this ship is about 50% bigger than Star Destroyer lenght. Much others scenes in ROTJ prove these dimensions like when this ship is side by side with Star Destroyer in the MF's scene over another SD hull , when Wedge destroy 2 Tie Interceptor and when the Executor dive to Death Star , MC 80 is behind from Home One's Calamari and has the same size, because both has the same basic hull . Watch these scenes and confirm . Star Destroyer is 893 meters wide ! There is no chance Freedom ship to have half of this size as the MF's scene mentioned above prove it .
UA-cam
Can you please stop disabling notifications from my favorite channels?
K thanks
In the EU once they secured more planets and funding it didn’t become too expensive to produce. Well they didn’t produce them on the scale as the old star destroyers they were still many of them
Can you give us the height of the MC-80 Liberty Type Heavy Star Cruiser since you give out the width of 453 meters.
the official scale of the Liberty type is completly wrong, it is shown in several scenes during the battle of Endor as a much bigger ship.
I recreated some scenes with 3d models and it only matched with roughly double the official size.
Also I calculated the mass of the models and with official size it would have only 1/5 the mass of an ISD. It's hard to believe that a originally civillian ship could stand a chance against a warship that has 5 times more mass.
Star wars in universe capitol ships are insanely oversized yet only carry about the same or slightly more fighters than a Nimitz class aircraft carrier.
Nice video, made me subscribe, but I've got a question. Will you ever cover Starcraft 2 as well? Maybe some Terran designs
As effective as they are, I’ve never liked the look of Mon Cala ship designs. Give me KDY dagger vessels over Mon Cala designs any day.
I think the idea that Mon Calamari vessels were explorers and passenger ships is Legends material, especially since their history was rewritten so they were part of the Old Republic instead of being discovered by the Empire. The canon story now is that they were government buildings on Mon Cala that they launched into space and strapped engines to. I don't know if that makes any sense, but it's what they tell me.
Unless it was used elsewhere... *Omg, holy shit, that's the Battle zone theme at the beginning and end of your vids!* I never expected to hear that anywhere where I wasn't deliberately searching for it!
Voice?
I’m disappointed you didn’t explain it’s shields. So it’s up to me. The mon calimar used a triple redundant shielding system. 3 layers of shields surround the ship. When the first one is down it immediately begins recharging While the second one holds it. Meaning if you don’t bring down the second in time. You will have to take down the first again. Mon calimari also mounted this design is just about any rebel ship that could fit it Which is why rebel ships can loiter for so long in front of the absurd firepower of a star destroyer. Naturally no ship is better at it than the mon cal. It’s tankiness was almost too much for an ISD1 to handle. Though the isd2 was more capable at dealing with it. It would often be a lengthy battle. And not one the rebels would plan to let run its course. I
i would like you to cover the warships of the Honor Harrington universe, perhaps a general overview then the first ship we get to know, HMS Fearless, and yes, i know it's a book series
Have you looked at the ships from Space Above and Beyond at all? Couldn't see any vids.
I like all of the Star Trek and Star Wars ships but I would like to see ships from other series like Andromeda or Honor Harrington.
I would love to see the Viscount version with the mc80 Wings on it
It's a trap! And also these cats
The movies are nothing but Rebel Propaganda!!
I would combine the best qualities of this ship with the Starhawk class battleship.
That was excellent. But hey, the Emperor didn't die? Did he. LOL
Where the forcefield generator, this is illogical to create starship without defence systems.
Have you done The Starship Heart of Gold? Can't find it.
