- The best rendition of this hymn I've heard. This version is indeed UNPARALLELED. No singer before or since, I feel, has managed to come close to the level of passion and intensity Shea displayed with this piece; a tremendous voice… entices your soul to the core…
G.B. Shea was also a noted author and wrote many books on Evangelist Christianity. He was, to be precise, a genius of rare regards, a man with a heart of gold. The more I come to know about him, his virtuous life, the more I honour him.
Former atheist here. Now i cant see my life without christ . He truly saved wretch like me and i don't even deserve it
Im 23, got saved over a year ago and I love this song 😊✝️❤️

May God keep you in the path of righteousness
My Dad died from ConVid whilst crying to this Track. How Great Thou Art.
Whenever my great grandmother died this song was played at her funeral. It caused my mother to cry, and she cried every time it played. Never understood until my mom died three years ago. Every time I hear this song, I cry remembering my mom's strong faith in God. I love you mom.
My mom's favorite was It Is Well With My Soul. Like you each time I hear it, tears well up, being so thankful of the spiritual heritage I had growing up and continues to this day.
@@marleneedward2415 that is my personal favorite
the guy who penned this lost his wife and daughters at sea.
My dad died crying his eyes out to this” How great thou Art.”
And when you see her face again it will have a big smile on it I am sure because Jesus always keeps his promises.
This was another one of father's favourites. He was a funeral director and would come back singing that hymn
My family watched Billy Graham's crusades and I loved hearing George Beverly Shea singing How Great Thou Art. No one can sing the song as well as he does.
I experienced the same thing when I was a child. I agree!
My Gramma listened to George Beverly Shea on our radio and tried to singalong. I will always remember listening to her back in the early ‘50,
Is he the one who made the song? Loved how Elvis sang it but I've been looking for the original
There is no one greater in history, than the Lord Jesus Christ !
That's because he is history as he said "I am the first and the last, the beginning and the end."
Brings back such beautiful memories for me..! If this is in New York..I am in this choir singing this song...Was in the '50s. I am now 85 yo..God has been faithful...All these years..! Hallelujah..!
Praise The Lord

It appears by your story that you were there and a part of this great moment..
What a wonderful memory for you. God bless you
@petermachen4030 God bless you too my precious brother..
Wow
My GrandDad used to play the G.B. Shea album with this on it.
I am 64.
I just listened to G B Shea sing this just now and it gave me goosebumps.
Thank U God for his talent!
George Beverly Shea had a gift for singing hymns, but he used it for the Lord!

Makes me cry every time I hear this song
My Daddy, would sing this along with Bev when I was 10 or so. It worked Daddy, see you when I get home to Heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ! 🙏
He's still singing. Someday I will stand with george around the throne of almighty God and what a time it will be.
There are so many memories tied up in this hymn.
The godly people I grew up with. My parents, my grandparents, my aunts and uncles....none of whom were perfect, but they truly tried to lived a life of godly example. Those people's lives, this man's voice, to me, exemplify the grandeur and the power of God in my life. His Kindness, His Compassion, His Mercy, His Truth, His Hope and His boundless Love.
This version, recorded 7 years before I was born, 62 years later, still BLESSES me.
:) And the profound sense of bliss you derive of it enriches me now, as I read through your words and feel the fervor of tender reflections they contain...
Thank you warmly, Andrew, for those fond memories, the cherished array of bygone glimpses this hymn conjured in you.. I am touched.
@@sagnikdas9494 ... I was coming out of work one night, where I worked in a hospital in upstate NY, just finishing up the evening shift.
Three friends and I were in the parking lot talking about life and God, and this and that. One of them, a nurse and a beautiful person, opened up in song, singing this great song right then and there. She sang it right there with cars passing by, not caring what people may have thought.
That was in 1968 or '69. It was so beautiful.
@@thomasklugh4345 Yes, the 60s and the 70s had been good times, I'm told. Those that have lived through the era say so..
Being a millenial has its shortcomings, I guess: I didn't get to witness the era up close (like you did).
But, can relate.. and revel in its resplendence, the treasure-trove of memories (such as the one you shared).
Thanks dearly, Thomas! :)
PS~The fact she could sing it out loud in the parking lot {sans reticence}, amid those cars passing by, is a reflection of her heart.. a heart fraught in love and devotion.
"When the Spirit of the Lord comes upon my heart, I will sing like David sang"...
Andrew I can agree totally. I was born 6 years earlier and 64 years after this was sung I love it . I want it sung at my funeral .
Timeless, wonderful, inspirational.
When I was a kid and I am 71 now, I heard this man sing every time Billy Graham had a crusade and it was on TV! My mother loved Jesus Christ and she died at 44 years! My brother died when he was 16. So in my life in the first 40 years of life I lost my brother, mother, a baby and my father! However I know 3 of the four are in heaven! My dad was a non believer but he was a good man! Unfortunately just being good isn’t enough to get into heaven!
Jesus might have come to him at the very end.. it’s very possible. ❤😊
@@beckylink Not possible for a non believer! I’ve read the Bible Three times in its entirety! Nowhere does a nonbeliever get saved and my dad didn’t ask to be saved because he didn’t believe!

Wow! 1957! That was the day my country achieved independence. RIP to George Beverly Shea.
An America we need back, desparately
My all-time favorite song... since I was a little girl.
Thanks You, God, for the Holy Spirit 🙏.

Happy Birthday in Heaven Pop - this was for you, I know Bev Shea was one of your favorites, and I'll never forget the days we sat in the car or in your place and listened to him. Thank you for those times. All glory and Praise to You father, Lord Jesus and Holy spirit, please watch over Pop and heal Mom now, I Pray in Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen.
What a voice. What a song. What a savior!
This gave me chills. Praise God for the awesome talent and blessings of George Beverly Shea. I bet he's singing it up in the heavenly choir!
Even in 2020, his voice makes me feel blessed and consider the grandeur of His grace and love ...
Timelessness, it's said, is the discerning mark of love and purity. All through his life, Mr Shea exemplified both. That may have been the reason why his voice still stands (and makes you feel all that you felt), even in this day and age.
Good to have your comment, Riemer!
If there's anything we need right now it's more billy graham and more religion and the ten commandments
He is one of the best! Including Billy, Ethel Waters and Cliff Barrows!!!!! Grew up on them!
We played George Beverly Shea during my dear grandfather's funeral during the Covid restrictions. He was a baptist minister of 60 years, and we could only invite under 15 people due to our country's rules at the time. We also couldn't sing at the time and had to be face masked throughout the service. My Grandfather's hero was Billy Graham, and was involved in his (and luis Palau's) crusades in Scotland.
The beauty and strengtth of this iconic voice is beyond compare...so beautiful!
Thanks Jesus i found him, what's a bless voice
this is not just a song, its a piece of History
I was born in 1957 !
He lived to be 104 years !!
It's crazy to think he was in his thirties during ww2 while simultaneously living well into the 2000s
Jesus for Portugal ❤ 🇵🇹
His voice was so powerful and beautiful❤️
Yes. Praise GOD. ALMIGHTY.
The GOD of ABRAHAM.
GOD THE GREAT UNIVERSAL ARCHITECT
And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

He lived a nice long life down here, but SOULS live FOREVER...in PARADISE in a glorified body with JESUS, or without Him, inglorious FOREVER in the lake of fire and brimstone.
The choice is ours.
JESUS IS RETURNING SOON!

This was the first Christian song I learned I heard it for the first time at Youth for Christ and loved it I took time to learn it I still love it 60 years later it brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it

When America was still America. We abandoned God, and now he has abandoned us. Lord God, through you son Jesus Christ, I beseech you to have mercy upon us, to forgive us for our trespasses and to give us one more chance at adhering to your word and to your love. We are nothing without you, we are simply a boat adrift in an ocean of turbulence. Please lead us to safety and to the promised land, and rid us of all those who are destroying our nation and our people. I beg you, Amen.
We are HIS children. HE will never abandon us, or for sake us.. John 8:12 "U.C.I.C."
He will never abandon His people, but His Blessing, His hedge of Psalm 91 Protection is is no longer over America.
'...if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.'
2 Chronicles 7:14
Lava
Yeah, what happened? Even Christians have gotten complacent now. Things slowly turned since 1957 when this was sang. Lots of churches built in the 50s and 60s.
If we were living in 1957, and covid hit, do you think we would rather take a flu shot or pray with the blood of Jesus against it ??? I want to believe there would have been more public corporate prayer against it.
Too many worshipping the golden bull today
Pride comes before the fall
Sounds as though you’re afraid
A nice prayer to the Lord. I like the part at the end where you had said: "And rid us of all those who are destroying our nation and our people"
My heavenly father, how great thou art
MY FAVORITE SONG OF ALL TIME, TEARS ARE RUNNING DOWN MY FACE.
HOW GREAT THOU ART!!!
George Beverly (Bev) Shea. How great he was! No one sings this great hymn as powerfully as Bev did!
❤😂🎉😢😮😅😮😮😅😅😅
Amen!
Such a magnificent voice for the Lord. I forgot all about George. The time of the Evangelist like, Oral Roberts, and Herbert W Armstrong. I remember Armstrong on the Radio listening with my Grandmother on the Sabbath. We are in desperate times and are in dire need of those types of Spiritual leaders. I remember Billy Graham filling entire stadiums and Georges commanding voice singing to the Glory of the Lord. Salvation is still at hand!! But time is running out... "U.C.I.C."
How Great Thou Art was recommended to the Billy Graham crusades while they were in London. George Beverly Shea first sang it at Billy Graham Crusade in Toronto, Canada. Thereafter it was a big favourite. GBS's talent and the thrilling message of the song were a powerful combination.
God sent this great voice to us. Enjoy and believe. He was made for this song to put it into our hearts.
I miss hearing George Beverly Shea sing How Great Thou Art and watching pastor Billy Grahm 's Crusades on TV back in the fifties with mom and dad when I was 10 years .it was one of the first hymns remember learning

Heard this song on a radio last year. My mom was singing with it.❤
This was my Mamaw’s favorite. She passed away a day before my birthday in September. This was the only song we played at her funeral and man it made us cry like babies. She was an amazing and Godly woman. Rest In Peace, Edna❤️ 04.24.39 - 09.03.2020
Does anyone else love this song and love this singer and the way he sings this song as much as I do???? This was my mother's favorite religious song and God knows I miss my mother.
Yes, I do, especially with George singing it!
God Bless!
What a voice to sing a BEAUTIFUL Song.

His voice was/is amazing….sounds like my grandfather R.I.P.
One of the greatest voices ever.
Yes Lord! How great thou art!
GOD is ETERNAL.
HOW GREAT. YOU ARE ALWAYS.
I was born 12 miles from where George Beverly Shea was born in a hamlet called Farran's Point , Ontario in 1946. The town where I was born was flooded in 1958 due to the Saint Lawrence Power Project

He had a voice that I can only describe as Majestic. I wish I could find him singing A Mighty Fortress.
His was a voice which no matter how hard I try, I'd still fall far short in commending enough:
That soul-stirring depth, the basso-baritonic enrichment of texture, the sheer power and purity it possessed (as though the Holy Spirit were Himself manifest in it); yes... 'Majestic' would've been an apt word.
That--coupled with his persona and the exemplary stage-presence he could wield, immortalised his name in the genre of Gospel singing.
You're so astute to have mentioned willing him perform "A Mighty Fortress"--it's one of my favorite hymns (besides many others by Luther), and I'd have liked seeing him do a version of it too. :)
This man went on to live another 50+ years. 😳
Phenomenal. He was 48 here, & passed away 56 yrs later at 104!
My favorite song too and love the way he sings it. He's a very God believing person. Thank you and your family.
Your comment lends much to the song and its beauty; It complements it.
Thanks profoundly, Gail.
And nothing changes that needs to re work this song. Good is still the GREAT GOD, the TRUE GOD that is all of what this song speaks about. HE never changes, neither does the meaning of this song...
So true! Not a truer word has been said, and it thrills me to go through your comment over and over. Indeed, none can change the eternal nature of Providence. There's no one on earth (or in heav'n for that matter) potent enough to pull that off!
Thank you for a remarkably astute comment, Ann Ott. May you have a great year ahead, as the days go by.. Happy new year :)
@@sagnikdas9494 Thank you , you are kind. But because I've known HIM for all these many years and have learned this truth first hand, I joyfully shout it out at anytime I can...I hope you have a wonderful New Year. The joy comes of knowing HIM and continually searching about HIM....
You know, I feel enriched often. It's this feeling.. this indescribable sense of happiness I find in me when I pause to reflect over Him or take His Hallowed name (Happens often in the early hrs. of dawn, this sublime sensation)... don't know why, don't know what it may be.
It's as though I require nothing more and am entirely satiated in life. These are the feelings that come and I find myself at a loss for the proper word to sum up a coherent inference... I try but fall short each time. For there are no words when it comes to the fathoming of the inexplicable. There are moments which don't fit into the bridled constraints of our 'day to day' definitions..
All time hit song with the Golden voice ✨️
My roots….grandma raised me 🙌🏼❤️🙌🏼
OK......I have to share this..........in 2000, I was a pallbearer at my then-father-in-law's funeral, and he programmed many of these old hymns for his funeral service........well, when he programmed "How Great Thou Art" at the end of his service.........being brought up in the Baptist Church as I was, and because my Granddad, a Baptist minister for about 28 years, loved those old songs.......I raised my mighty baritone as we took that casket to the hearse, and I'm proud to have done it!!!
Gosh, I miss him.
I’ve always loved this song. I believe the first time I heard it was on television during the Billy Graham crusade. George Beverly Shea sang it.
I heard Bev Shea sing during a Billy Graham crusade at the old Georgia Dome (wow, it feels strange writing that) in the 1990s. He sang wonderfully - so it was stunning when Graham got up and noted Mr. Shea was 85. He lived past 100.
You're indeed fortunate. Getting to hear Mr. Shea (that too live on a Billy Graham crusade) would've been transcendental, had I partaken of the experience. He was a divine soul.
He really was incredible! He was my great uncle and lived to be 102!
I was at the Sydney/Australian Crusade in 1959. I was 21 & thoroughly enjoyed it! George Beverley Shae’s voice was so powerful & inspirational!💐
What a man of God! Thanks for sharing this hymn!
A man of his stature is indeed hard to find. He was a rare soul, Divinely endowed.. and--inspired..
Thanks warmly, Ann W!
HOW GREAT THOU ART!
AMEN
I want this sung at my funeral.
Tears are running down my face my favorite song of all time.
Moments like these are precious, I find.. through personal experience. Such tears are precious--they have a beauty of their own. Your candid words touched me...
another great christian from canada, god bless all !
George bervely sha is my roll model and best gospel music singer,
How great thou art is my best song, consider the kind of family i came from, where the bible is not read in morning, but in all God love extended to all creatures, and thing about the mystery of heaven not falling on earth, the mystery of the invisible Pilar holding between heaven and earth.
My God how great thou art.
A wonderful song that I really like because it is sung with heart! Big heartfelt thanks for George Beverly Shea and Billy Graham! 👏
One of my favorites, and the old rugged cross. ❤
Still amazing
Just before the amazing MCG choir '59,and record crowd-How Great Thou Art.
Wow! What a voice! Truly amazing! I've never heard of this gentleman! I'm from Australia! I decided to look at this video because I love the song and it was filmed in the year of my birth, so I decided to have a look!
His was indeed a voice that could entice your soul and leave behind a lasting impact. It's one of a kind. G.B. Shea's life and the magnitude to which he excelled in its every walk, defines his greatness--both as a person and a connoisseur. And the fact that you share your birth year to this recording makes it enticing all the more! Wonderful in every way! Thank you for a delightful comment, Wendy Ryder. :)
What a powerful voice he had ! ✝️🙏✝️🙏✝️🙏✝️🙏✝️🙏✝️🙏✝️🙏
Always so moving to hear George sing this wonderful hymn.
Beyond words

I grew up hearing this hymn
No doubt the best ever!
I focus on the size of the massive gospel choir there in 1957, "The Greatest Generation." In NYC of all places. Possibly Yankee Stadium. And weep for today.
How amazing
Good old days when Satan had not complicated the world
That's why I make the videos on my channel. Just sit back and listen, please.
