I think the only thing I actually like about this version of jughead is the crown beanie it's a neat modernization of his iconic crown can't say the same for the rest of this version of the character
You ain’t wrong about jugheads personality in the show like at the beginning we thought he was shy and calm but come season 2 up he hella aggressive and whenever he talks and his body language same with Archie
I stopped watching the second they "made him" have ✨sex✨. I didn't like a lot about him in season one, but the first season is "good" in comparison to the few things I've seen from the later seasons? I absolutely hate what they made him in the show
Stiles from Teen Wolf is essentially what Jughead should've been in Riverdale, both are the main characters' comedic relief best friend, who are fan favorites among the fanbase, with similar senses of humor (mostly, Stiles is portrayed more as a stereotypical "Nerd/Geek" while Jughead has a stronger passion for food), and both have a connection to athletic activities (Jughead isn't interested but Coach Kleats tries to recruit him and Stiles plays lacrosse). They have some minor differences like fashion and whatnot, but overall I think they should've at least worked off of Stiles as a template and made changes to make Jughead seem more like Jughead instead of being so brooding.
I haven’t red the original comics but heard lots about them from like this video and such and I do really think they kinda ruined jughead in riverdale. I like having a character who is like funny and sarcastic because it brings out the humor in it all so seeing him act so serious is just sad to be honest and he really just gets worst and worst thru the seasons. And really my biggest issue with him is the asexual erasure, I’m asexual myself and we have very very little representation in media and when I heard that jughead was originally asexual in the comics I was happy to have some representation from so long ago but now when he is like not asexual like at all I’m just here feeling that It comes out as kinda acephobic(not saying that the producers are acephobic just saying that this change does come off as that a bit)
I'm pretty sure they thought him being Ace would be "boring" and they needed him to have plysical relationships for plot reasons. Which is very telling of how bad the show is going to be. (yes I am bitter and intend to stay that way 😂)
It was because of the cartoon and the comics I really wanted to like him but as soon as he got with Betty and the whole weirdo thing was revealed, he was a Automatic Miss for me. Although he fit the shows initial dark theme, he just became unbearable and got this sense of the world owing him everything when in fact the world does not. He just... sucks as a “person”(character) and I really try to find the good in him that isn’t connected to him being play by Cole(who’s cool and what not)
I really liked his character in s1 when they showed his struggles with his dad and his relationship with Betty was good. Then s2 happened and they tried to turn him into this badass gang leader which was so cringe.
Awesome video!!! 👏👏👏 Yes this show absolutely ruined jughead’s character and frankly now he is just so annoying to me. I wish he would’ve been asexual but now it’s practically impossible. You spilled FACTS, girl!!! 😊🙌
@@LucyAnne1 Asexuality does not necessarily mean aromantic but his disinterest in romance and girls is something that I find interesting about Jughead and why he is often defined as weird kid in Archie Comics. I find it sad that it seems like in Riverdale they decide to make Jughead to be stereotypical brooding emo kid, he mentioned being "the weird kid" in season 1 but they don't attempt to make that seem like the case
They ruined everyone's relationships. The so-called core four hardly have interactions together as a group. Personally, I prefer the Archies Weird Mysteries portrayal.
I wanna recommend some riverdale books for the show that they got two authors to do based off seasons1-4 that do a decent job with the personality’s and relationships that the show doesn’t like Archie and jughead, jughead having humour and not so serious and Betty and Veronica actually having a close friendship. The authors are micol ostow she has 4 riverdale books and the other is Caleb roehrig he’s got 1 book for the show
Hi I have a genuine question bc I just researched what asexual meant. I already had an idea and some talks about it in school but the way Jughead is asexual in the comics, is he not into anyone at all or is he just romantically attracted but just not sexually attracted to anyone? Either way I do agree that they shouldn’t have put him in a relationship bc I can only speak for myself but I hate the fact that most teen dramas always have to have the main characters in a relationship. I honestly feel that sometimes the relationships become more of an identity for the two parties involved and it ends up becoming their whole character(for example, Toni’s character before the time jump with dating Cheryl) and that annoys me. Also if possible, can you do a comparison of how Hiram is in Riverdale compared to the comics bc I honestly don’t really care for his character so I’m genuinely curious if they got it right or not plus I cringe at how many times the show try to make him redeemable one minute and then he’s the same as before
Jughead in the comics is _usually_ not romantically attracted to anyone, but he's never sexually attracted to anyone, the latter making him asexual. In the reboot comic from 2015, he's never ever romantically attracted to anyone either, and in those he's aromantic, which means not being attracted to anyone romantically, in addition to being asexual.
Can you please react to "The future is now" trailer? I really want to see your reaction :) (if you haven't seen it ofc). Also please do a 5x04 reaction when it airs
I hate to admit that you're right about Trula being insignificant...they GOTTA do more with that character-- Ok that aside!! This is a great video and I agree with your points - I HATE-hate what Riverdale did with Jughead. Jughead is usually my favorite character (I literally wear the comic version of his whoopee hat so that's...telling) but in the show there's not much I like about him at all Personally I have several headcanons/views of Jughead that I alternate between constantly, especially if I'm working on fanworks - I really like the asexual and aromantic version, I am okay with the straight ace version when done right, and I've seen people talk about him being gay-coded in earlier things and honestly I think that a gay ace Jughead makes for a good take too - but in every version of Jughead that I have in my mind, he's asexual. How did such a logical conclusion even slip Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's mind? Especially a year after he was made canonically ace in the New Riverdale comics.
I haven't watched Riverdale, it's not exactly what I'm interested in, but I know I would hate the show (I already do kind of hate the show). Anyway, as an aroace, this leads me to have mixed feelings about the ace erasure that occurred. Because on the one hand, Jughead is very clearly aroace, and was confirmed as asexual, and the fact that they erased that is so messed up, and I hate them for that. But on the other hand, I don't want to give the show credit for anything, even if making Jughead ace would've been the absolute bare minimum.
I mean I'm 16, I think I count as being part of the "new generation" and I still know that you don't have to wreck everything that makes a character likable and interesting to market the character to people my age. As for it being the CW? Maybe this CW should just try harder
Read the 2nd "Jughead" series starting 1987. Jughead specifically states that he is attracted to girls, but he had a failed romance as a kid that scarred him. Jughead is at least sometimes depicted as asexual, and sometimes not. It's not just one way. He's dated and been in love many times.
they turned him from an ace/aro icon who was the comedic relief of the comics into a generic mopey emo teen
I've never read the comics but it makes me mad that he isn't acesexual in the TV show. There's not enough representation in the media
That’s a relatively new aspect. In To Riverdale and Back Again, he had a son Jordan
Comic Jughead: "I don't like people that way."
Riverdale Jughead: "Hey there, Juliet~"
Me: \*BARFS*

Fucking thank you finallly someone who gets that he is ASEXUAL it is what ruined the show so badly because of the toxic fandoms.
When will people realize that asexual and aromantic people are actually incredibly interesting??

@Bryan Roy I was fine with the Betty relationship if it wasn’t for the fact it came outta nowhere and he was essentially his rebound.
I very much concur with this! 👍🏼

Also, Jug's and Veronica's dynamic was hilarious in the comics
Aaaaand! A great swing dancer!
I'm furious about what they've done to him
your videos are so satisfying and well structured
Thank you so much!! That means a lot! :)
Can you tell me why ethel like jughead?
Another friendship they ruined for jughead in the show is him and Toni’s relationship
I love jughead in the show it's not supposed to be the same also he still eats I like the show

As of the 2015 reboot, he's not romantically interested in anyone. As he tells Sabrina, "I don't go on dates. I don't like people that way, you know?"
Jughead is my spirit animal. I like to think im the female Jughead lol.

Oh come on it's a new generation and it's the CW so dont trash on it to much and I think he should be asexual
