Yeah, they are great helmets! I did quite a few prints before I got some that felt right. I wanna say I ended up around 125% upscaled. The weapons were different, like 150, but I'm pretty sure the helmets were around the 125 mark. If I were to print them again though, I'd probably take them down a little, some of them were a little too big to fit in between the shoulder pads. More to do with the models themselves, but something to keep in mind!

What are the hobby shelves you use for your paints in the background? I've been meaning to get a shelf for my tools and paints and those look way better than the ones I've seen on Amazon or in hobby stores.
The main system I have is from Hobby Zone. MDF hobby desk stuff that's really nice, much better than anything off of amazon, which I have some of as well. The long white strip on the wall off to the side is actually a floating picture shelf. It's thin and has a little lip on the end to hold frames, perfect for paints :)
They look great. To me though, the 'shaved down helmet' looks really, really tiny on top of that body. Like, it has a kind of a pin-head look that becomes very obvious next to the more properly scaled, 3D printed helmets.
Several people have mentioned Dark Souls, and I think that's spot on, and I love it! You have to think the stormcast (liberators at least ) were designed at first to be a monster infantry unit for The Empire in The End of Times as golem creations made by Balthasar Gelt. That explains the inhuman proportions and the lack of leather straps the new ones have.
For sure, and I think they are fine from a lore perspective. My issue is more with the overall design of the plastic. Even here I gave them bigger heads and weapons to match the scale and, to me at least, that seems to fit better with the plastic we did get and it makes more sense, just some of them feel squished, like they couldn’t actually move in their own armor. The best example is how the new knight Vexilor has an open pose compared to the original who looks like he’s hanging on for dear life.
You made Stormcast into something I absolutely love the look of, when I normally hate them. Warhammer has always been sorely missing “classic” medieval knights. Even the closest stuff in WfB I can think of was more like.. Swooshy Renaissance sleeves and fluffy feathered hats, not actual full plate gritty knights. Sooo cool. Yellow is also my favorite color, and yellow/black/brown is an amazing combo. Beautiful work. I do have to add though, the printed helmets look SO much better than the shaved head bit. I think the face on that shaved head bit is so derpy, and the shape of the head (how it slopes down and then bulbs out at the cheeks) makes it look like some goofy cartoon golem or something. The actually hidden emotionless grate of various knight helmets, in my opinion, is infinitely better. Even if it’s more work, I’d say it’s well worth it! Beautiful beautiful work. 😍
I was honestly surprised when they reached out to me, but it made perfect sense for painting and playing! Best upgrade to my workspace in quite a while.
I like the shaved head look. I think because the old Cast model proportions are a little off, leaning into the uncanniness really helps. They start giving off a golem type vibe that adds something sinister.
The helmets are awesome. Much better than the shaved down regular head. I like these band of rogue knights, at least thats how they look to me. Thank you!
Personally I prefer a mix, I like all the different helms & helmet less warriors, yes having them all the same gives a uniform look & can be useful for signifying a specific unit but for a horde I like the ragtag, incomplete armour sets. Up to the individual really, do what makes you excited! Great yellow colour BTW! 👍
I saw the thumbnail and emidiatally thought the finished product was the man at arms from darkest dungeon lol anyways I'll def be using this guide for myself
Those ended up looking like something from Dark Souls, so plenty of grimdark with that warband. I myself would probably go the opposite route, try to utilize how the older Stormcast look like something a bit more cartoon-ily heroic, like Warcraft or Warp Miniatures. I see potential in using them as both paladins and evil equivalents, like death knights. That's why I would kitbash them with the 8th edition Chaos Warriors and similar models, both for helmets and weapons other than hammers.
okay so... while the new helmets do look totally wizard and are just straight up better, i do have to say it makes them look less stormcast and more just normal knights. so i guess it comes down to how much/what kind of narrative you want them to have? idk if it's still a thing but i remember there was at least one city of sigmar that let you ally in stormcast without breaking faction, so i'd use those models in that kinda army and fluff them as normal knights
Yeah it definitely depends on how you would want them represented in an army. In a fully dedicated stormcast army you could still make it work, but I like the idea of combining something like this with cities of sigmar, i think you can still do that with up to 400 points of allies? So you could have a killer warband come in that's just been sent as a specialty moster hunting unit of liberators to help out the regular folks...could be pretty awesome from a narrative point of view :)
What a shame that you lost the footage for the shields because that freehand and checkering patterns on those shields are by far the best part about these minis IMO.
Yeah it was a huge bummer, but I plan on doing some dedicated videos about doing freehand like this anyways, so it will all get out there at some point :)
Thanks! I really appreciate it :) I do have a video about that army from back when Dominion came out. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/bwTZ7j4Q91Q/v-deo.html
If anyone says "destroying" minis. No. You're forging minis. I've personally chopped off heads, legs, torsos, shaved detail, and then supplanted in my own stuff (and a lot of extra sprue) to make some sick models.
You did a good job. Although, I’m not a fan at all of Stormcast, even almost 10 years later. Hopefully they start taking a back burner now with cities of sigmar.
These came with the Dremel that I bought a while back, but the little ball-ended bits are called Grinders or Burrs. Amazon has a ton of them in pretty inexpensive packs!
I heard Squat and Stormcast and thought we were about to get a 40k Squat conversion from Stormcast. Was trying to figure out how you were going to shorten the legs.
Awesome job mate! Could you please tell me where did you purchase your glass-cabinets from (on the wall). I am hunting for some similar ones. Thanks in advance! :)
Thanks! The glass cabinets are actually shot glass display cases from Micheal’s craft store. I’m not sure that chain is international, but shot glass display cabinets is the keyword to look for :)
Awesome the way they turned out, a brilliant grim dark with the yellow really popping to add interest. The smoothed head is great and you should do more, but would too many together end up loosing the individuality of the way the models you’ve done currently look? Also I think the older models fit in an army well as they look like a older more veteran fighter who’s muscle mass and frame has grown through wars and beer!
You're probably right, if they all had the shaved heads they would start to all look the same again, a mix would work really well for a ton of them! I dig the skaven sewer fighter idea, that would be fun to make for sure. All slimed up with rat tail trophies :)
The original Stormcast are definitely a bit 'over the top', almost cartoon-y or caricature-ish, with very exaggerated shoulders, helmet crests and weapon heads. The new Stormcast miniatures are a lot more toned down, both in proportions and in the amount of detailing.
Probably why I like the newer ones better. They just feel more correct, if you can even say that about minis. A lot of the middle era stormcast were fixing the problems I've always had, some of those minis feel much more in between and better. The sequitors in particular are generally pretty nice.
Given how bloated the Stormcast Eternals range is, I think GW really should just stop producing new rounds of units, and start replacing older model kits with newer ones. So instead of making _another_ standard battleline unit, just discontinue the old Liberators kit and make a new Liberators kit that incorporates all the design lessons GW learned over the years. Like, GW didn't keep using the exact same Space Marine metal models from Rogue Trader or the plastics from the 2nd ed box. They discontinued the Old-and-Busted models, in favor of versions of them that were New Hotness. (Although obviously Oldhammer fans will still love their original sculpts. There's no accounting for Nostalgia.). Even with the Mk 6 Marines they released for Horus Heresy 2nd ed, they took everything they learned from years of making Primaris to revitalize Firstborns. GW could do exactly that with AoS 1st ed Stormcast. Rebalance elements, change the proportions, and even old designs can be made to look better.
My guess is they will wait until the 10 year mark to actually redo the kits. They have definitely learned a ton about making models even in the last few years, so hopefully they will go the way of space marines, like you said, and make something really cool that makes these older models make more sense for new editions!
What are the wash and enamels you use? I love this scheme but I haven’t really made my own washes yet and I’m nervous about it. But I really like how that came out.
The old stormcast look fine. Actually better in some instances of the new ones. They feel fantasy and the new ones feel like they want to look more realistic. Just an opinion tho
I do like a lot of the older ones, Sequitors in particular are pretty great. It's more the original line that came out when AOS launched, they just feel squished to me.
I totally forgot to put the links in the description, I just updated that, but here they are! Besterium Miniatures MMF: Weapons I used and heads I didn’t www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-spires-of-allstein-kitbash-set-176960 Resinmancer Etsy: Heads I used www.etsy.com/shop/Resinmancer?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=1389762333 St. Decent MMF: Heads I didn’t use, but printed www.myminifactory.com/users/SaintDecent
So there are the ones that came out when AOS launched, and the ones that have only been made since the AOS 3 starter box, Dominion, came out. They completely redesigned the new ones and made them way more real. The older ones just have a lot of cartoony bulk, which for the most part is fine, but some of the old sculpts feel real squished, like they couldn't actually move in their armor. The best example is the difference between the old Knight Vexilor and the new one. Completely different look and feel. Old: www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Stormcast-Eternals-Knights-Vexillor New: www.reddit.com/r/ageofsigmar/comments/nns072/new_knightvexillor/
great video man!! i have to say i like the printed helmets alot more. the stormcast heads always looked like "Handsome Squidward" to me so i can never take them seriously lol. also, i like your version of "grim dark" to me it actually fits the name
Honestly the sword and shield head conversion mini would make for a better standard line troop...weapons could vary as I've no preference there...as for baldy head, 2 or 3 at most (squad leaders if you like) otherwise it would just start looking stupid...Great job blending old vs new though,.. it works with your conversions....Never got into Stormcast line at all as I thought they just looked to clownish and goofy...Taking off all that garbage heraldry really worked...if you do expand this mob maybe look at other resin shield designs to add more randomness to the troops...Even has me interested on what you come up with,.. Though I still will never get this army
Definitely adding some shield variety would be great! I am planning on picking up a used army of these and going nuts on an entire 2K points, so variety will be very needed!
I’ve been using the Angel Giraldez Infinity from Harder and Steinbeck. Super good control, really fine spray, one of the best brushes I’ve ever used. Normally I’m using a badger patriot or 20/20, which are great, but nothing like this thing!
I think the new helmeted heads have a better visual presentation, I've always thought that the normal stormcast heads looked terribly undersized on the figures.
At least with Space Marines, you can assume their bulky armor is a result of being full of lots of electronics and such. Early Stormcast look like they were normal folk placed inside armor way, way too big for them. Despite being, you know, just armor plates. The newer Stormcast look like big people with appropriately sized and fitted armor.
I liked how the models looked before. They're supposed to have a lot of detail and look ornate. I also like how they look after your alterations, but not as Stormcast. More like larger, generic fantasy models.

Right? like the head that fits into that helmet would have to be incredibly tiny!
@@eBayMiniatureRescues My dude is completely immune to headshots.
@@dungeonsanddrybrushing lmao, does that count as modeling for advantage?
Those helmets and paint scheme are sick, heavy Dark Souls vibes.
Gonna need a link to the stls tho.
Several people have mentioned Dark Souls, and I think that's spot on, and I love it! One of my favorite games, and the tattoo I have on my elbow :)
I completely forgot to put the STL links in the description, but that is now fixed!! Here they are though, so you don't have to go through an extra step!

Love the look with the Medieval Helmets. Better than the OEM Stormcast heads.
They look straight out of mordhiem, great job and conversions
You have to think the stormcast (liberators at least ) were designed at first to be a monster infantry unit for The Empire in The End of Times as golem creations made by Balthasar Gelt. That explains the inhuman proportions and the lack of leather straps the new ones have.
For sure, and I think they are fine from a lore perspective. My issue is more with the overall design of the plastic. Even here I gave them bigger heads and weapons to match the scale and, to me at least, that seems to fit better with the plastic we did get and it makes more sense, just some of them feel squished, like they couldn’t actually move in their own armor. The best example is how the new knight Vexilor has an open pose compared to the original who looks like he’s hanging on for dear life.
just noticed those are Lawbringer helmets from For Honor
Genuinely very inspired by this, currently working on my BFG but i wanna drop it and get out my stormcast
I like this table sponsorship. Definitely a tempting hobby upgrade, way to be thinking outside the hobby box.
I was honestly surprised when they reached out to me, but it made perfect sense for painting and playing! Best upgrade to my workspace in quite a while.
I like the knight helmets. Makes me like stormcasts.
If you ever get a chance i would love to see some Necrons get some love especially with a multi colored paint scheme
Someday I will do some Necrons, I have a kind of rediculous amount of them right now lol.
It would be cool to see some Warcraft heads put on these with some gold lion shields. It would be perfect with the amount of armor they have!
Epic. Dark Souls vibes for sure.
well, this makes me, an goblin player to buy them
okay so... while the new helmets do look totally wizard and are just straight up better, i do have to say it makes them look less stormcast and more just normal knights. so i guess it comes down to how much/what kind of narrative you want them to have? idk if it's still a thing but i remember there was at least one city of sigmar that let you ally in stormcast without breaking faction, so i'd use those models in that kinda army and fluff them as normal knights
I like the original liberators mate. Nothing wrong with them in my view. More power to you for charing them into something you like though!
Cool video. The music overlays you put in your videos are amazing
What a shame that you lost the footage for the shields because that freehand and checkering patterns on those shields are by far the best part about these minis IMO.
Yeah it was a huge bummer, but I plan on doing some dedicated videos about doing freehand like this anyways, so it will all get out there at some point :)
cool! I have been interested in age of sigmar recently, fun to see some related content
Very cool! It's definitely worth getting into, lots of fun to be had painting and playing :)
Awesome channel, do you have a video for the stormcast paint scheme between 1:50 - 2:05?
Thanks! I really appreciate it :)
I do have a video about that army from back when Dominion came out. Here it is:
ua-cam.com/video/bwTZ7j4Q91Q/v-deo.html
If anyone says "destroying" minis. No. You're forging minis. I've personally chopped off heads, legs, torsos, shaved detail, and then supplanted in my own stuff (and a lot of extra sprue) to make some sick models.
You did a good job. Although, I’m not a fan at all of Stormcast, even almost 10 years later. Hopefully they start taking a back burner now with cities of sigmar.
5:56 that's the bit I have been looking for or a while. Do you know what it is called?
These came with the Dremel that I bought a while back, but the little ball-ended bits are called Grinders or Burrs. Amazon has a ton of them in pretty inexpensive packs!
These helmets look excellent. Great colour scheme too.
Helmets definitely look better in my opinion
I actually love the "Squatcast" how they are.
Nothin wrong with that :)
Okay, now I'm going to make a kill team like this.
Honestly putting a bigger helmet on changes the scale of the whole model and makes they look a lot better.
I heard Squat and Stormcast and thought we were about to get a 40k Squat conversion from Stormcast. Was trying to figure out how you were going to shorten the legs.
Haha, that would be somethin to see though. It would probably work too…hmmmmm. Ima do some research.
@@eBayMiniatureRescues thank you very much mate!
Amazing refinishing!
They remind me of the knights of the round table from the movie Excalibur.
These look like something straight out of Dark Souls - love it!
The helmets do it for me
They are pretty cool helmets, definitely a different vibe than normal Stormcast :)
I’m very interested in how you got that sweet eye icon on the shoulder pad. I’ve never seen something quite like that
Someone knows from where those 3d printed bits (specially the helmet a 9:28) ?

@@eBayMiniatureRescues Thanks you and awesome video as always!
Shaved heads for that Necron look.
So as someone who doesn't play AOS, are there two different scales of Stormcast? Sure Stormcast are still fairly new aren't they?
So there are the ones that came out when AOS launched, and the ones that have only been made since the AOS 3 starter box, Dominion, came out. They completely redesigned the new ones and made them way more real. The older ones just have a lot of cartoony bulk, which for the most part is fine, but some of the old sculpts feel real squished, like they couldn't actually move in their armor. The best example is the difference between the old Knight Vexilor and the new one. Completely different look and feel.
Old: www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Stormcast-Eternals-Knights-Vexillor
New: www.reddit.com/r/ageofsigmar/comments/nns072/new_knightvexillor/
Where did you get the weapons from? Love that serrated looking blade.
great video man!! i have to say i like the printed helmets alot more. the stormcast heads always looked like "Handsome Squidward" to me so i can never take them seriously lol. also, i like your version of "grim dark" to me it actually fits the name
What airbrush are you using? It looks like you have a ton of control with it
I’ve been using the Angel Giraldez Infinity from Harder and Steinbeck. Super good control, really fine spray, one of the best brushes I’ve ever used. Normally I’m using a badger patriot or 20/20, which are great, but nothing like this thing!
Still waiting for that death guard.
😂 I’ve got plans…in fact I’ve got another 2k points worth in the wings on top of what I already started, it’s kinda getting out of control.
I think the new helmeted heads have a better visual presentation, I've always thought that the normal stormcast heads looked terribly undersized on the figures.
Yeah the extra bulk really helps pull it together. The scale is weird with the older models.
@@Bluecho4 agreed!
Fir real dude awesome video and definitely heads beat helmet.
I liked how the models looked before. They're supposed to have a lot of detail and look ornate. I also like how they look after your alterations, but not as Stormcast. More like larger, generic fantasy models.
These could definitely fit into other game systems, someone said these would be great for Frostgrave!
Where did the eye decal come from?
