I was going to say “are we just going to ignore a brunette brad?” But then I saw the comments and thank god I’m not the only one. You look AMAZING and so glowing Brad!!
"Dirty blonde/brunette" Brad is absolutely stunning!!!! I love whatever he is doing to his hair currently, and really hope he explains to us in a future video. Personally I am a huge fan of the blurred line between blonde/brunette. "Mushroom blonde/ brunette" is what it is called I think? I am not a hair dresser.
I'm a cosmetologist and went to Beauty School back in '99 when they were still mainly doing cap highlights. Once or twice a year I do them on myself and always have good results! (I would never attempt full foils on myself- and the awesome thing about cap highlights is a consistent processing time because it's applied all at once.) Here are some tips from the years of practice I've had with this method: Wash and deep condition hair first, (I do it the night before.) and make sure it's bone dry to start. Apply a leave-in conditioner and/or serum from the mid shaft down; concentrating on the ends, and flatiron smooth to prevent snagging. I start with a part slightly off center because there's a row of holes going up the middle of the cap and the hair pulls out sparse along the part. Make sure hair is thoroughly brushed before putting the cap on. I like the Conair Pro Extend A Cap and metal hook (plastic hooks are garbage!)... pulling the hair through evenly takes practice. Go slow and do it gently, you can always pull out more. (And actually if you pull too much through, you can go underneath and pull the hair back under the cap using a rat tail comb.) After a strand of hair is pulled out through the hole, there's often a loop of hair that hasn't fully gotten past- use a comb as you go, and comb that loop out before grabbing for more hair- sometimes the loop of hair doesn't seem like alot, but it is. I stagger and pull more hair through every other hole so it doesn't come out looking like spaghetti. I usually pull it out heavier around the face, and I make extra holes in between, especially around the hair line. Sometimes I do every other hole (or starting that way just below the crown/using all the holes on top). I usually take it down to the occipital in back (but once in a while I go all the way down) and pull out in a pattern that angles towards the face up front- this looks especially amazing with an a-line bob! (I use a 3 way mirror for the sides.) Doing the back is tedious as hell and requires the use of a hand mirror, alot of self talk, and listening to music!!! I start at the top, and work my way down, one row at a time. I clip the hair up and out of the way with each row. It takes longer, but I have less tangles and snags with this method. Always look out for strands that got pulled through other holes- sometimes you'll find an open hole that's lost it's hair, so check row by row and make sure it's even. When finished, grasp sections side by side to make sure what's been pulled will give a balanced result; adjust if needed... The hair left underneath, I put into a low ponytail, wind up like a snail, clip, and tuck under the plastic flap in the back (Extend A Cap)... Almost always, instead of full on bleaching, I make a color remover (or "soap cap") formula because it's more gentle. I mostly use 10 volume developer because I have alot of fine hair that's always porous and soaks up color like a sponge. The lower volume developer allows me more time to get a thorough application. Sometimes I use an accent color instead of lightener. (Orange on Auburn, or Melon on Blonde...) Sometimes I go for a balayage effect and paint on the color or lightener halfway down. I've also used a cap for lowlights, or adding ash to tone down red. Just remember to think of the pre punched holes more as a guide. You don't have to use all of them and with the same amount of hair! Try to keep the color or lightener off the openings, use a formula as thick as possible, don't press on the cap, and make sure hair is fully dry- this prevents bleeding, or "saturn rings" as they were called in school. I was taught to rinse with the cap still on- just work quickly so all that water mixed with lightener doesn't seep onto the other hair. Apply lots of conditioner after a semi decent rinse and pull the cap off. Then you can rinse for real, shampoo and condition. Caps are versatile as hell if you give them a chance!! They're an inexpensive way to add some dimension to all over color; or downplay something like a dark band, (from a grown out root smudge ), an over saturated mid shaft, or ends that are murky or overly bright. They yield professional results, and all for under $20 if used with patience, care, and consideration.
I poked the holes in the cap before putting it on cause I found it made doing the back easier. I didnt poke the small holes without the circle and left those for me to decide as I saw necessary. I listened to a lot of the tips you left. I think next time ill have someone help me do the back. tysm
My hairdressers use them and it's hurt so bad, she had always used foils until this point but when she used the cap I was holding back tears, I stopped bleaching my hair that day
My sisters and I been cap highlighting at home for almost 10 years and I have three pro tips to make it flawless. 1. Use a latex cap if you are not allergic. These are more thin and will keep it close to the scalp. If it doesn’t have holes the better cause it prevents the bleach from passing out the cap. 2. Use a thin crochet needle to take the hair out. To make thin sections just insert the needle in a 45 degree angle from the head without doing a swirl. If you swirl the needle you’ll end up with chunky highlights. It’s like stabbing but don’t hurt yourself! 3. When you finish the sectioning throughout the head, comb the hair that is out. Make sure that the cap is the closest to the scalp as possible. Give it a like so Brad can see it!
Some tips if you’re doing this at home: start from the top and work your way down when plucking out hair, otherwise you will start pulling hair out that has already been taken out below it causing massive tangling. Brush the hair once you’re done plucking to make sure any “loops” are brushed out. To take off the cap after colouring easier or if your hair is delicate, rinse your hair with the cap still on then take it off and wash properly. It should just slide off with ease! I’ve done my hair this way successfully quite a few times.
Okay but if want to do a darker color to other parts (the non highlighted ones) while doing this cap method then what would you suggest? And how do you maintain the highlights like redoing them and stuff?
I 100% agree with starting from the top and also rinsing the hair before removing the cap. My hairdresser has been using a cap to highlight my hair for many, many years. He always started at the top and also rinsed it off before taking it off. I have very short hair and he always cut my hair before using the cap, that way you get much closer to the scalp and it's easier to pull the hair through anyway. I love the results I have always gotten with him using the cap and I've never allowed anyone to use foil for my highlights, ever! There is just so much more random, beautiful color with a cap. The key is to never let it go too long before highlighting it again. He always used Blondor Multi Power Lightener which is very easy on the hair and provided multiple different colors instead of just one or two shades. Each time I get it highlighted it just keeps adding different color. He has never used anything other than Blondor on my hair all these years and I've never once had any damage to my hair. Sadly my hairstylist and really good friend since childhood passed away suddenly in Nov. I've not found another hairstylist yet and not sure they will want to use the cap or the brand of highlighter I love. But, I need to find one soon!
How is he contradicting himself? 🤔 any video I’ve watched he makes it perfectly aware that it works some people but not all. And he still recommends people to get their hair professionally done and not try to do it themselves but okay.
Brad is literally the hairdresser of my dreams. He seems liked he would really listen to what you want and what you're going for and not just say "mhm" and give you something you don't love. I love all of his videos💜
I know right???? He sounds like he really knows what he is doing and would be so nice and listen to what you wanted. I would love for him to do my hair
@mehazad rahman I never had any "pain". But I don't feel like I ever got the cap off as easy as Brad did or as easy as I've seen others pull it off. I always had to cut the cap off! And the hair underneath the cap was a tangled mess!! I do have a lot of very thick hair though.....
I really appreciate that brad isn’t to proud to admit when he’s “ wrong” ( like wrong isn’t the right word but I don’t know how else to say it) I totally agree that you’re going to get better results and quality when at the salon and foils, but for a quick budget friendly option this wasn’t bad 😁
He literally said he would let someone out of the salon looking like this, which is amazing, considering this is easy to do at home, and most home-jobs do not look like they were done in a salon!
As a professional that still does cap highlights sometimes, there are a few tricks. 1) use caps that are one layer and don’t have premade holes. 2) put the under a dryer for about 10 mins after you pull it through to help shrink the holes around the hair to help with bleed spots 3) use pro hooks, they are smaller and sharper so they don’t make as big of holes And don’t pull off the cap before rinsing out the hair!
I am not a professional however did go to cosmetology school and remember that we rinsed and added conditioner to the hair before removing the cap (It was mid 90’s and they still taught the cap at that point)
I agree. That should have been rinsed before, to prevent breakage after the treatment, if nothing else. He probably didn't, because he knew what it would look like when he pulled it off (spaghetti hair, as he called it) and wanted to show that off. Just glad it's a mannequin head.
Hi Brad! I'm a master cosmetologist that went to a very very old timey beauty school 100yrs ago. The way we learned to highlight was with a cap. (Thank Goodness for my first job where I had very skilled hairdressers teach me to foil.) A few things I remember, they used to make different sized needles that determined the amount of hair that came out. Even the biggest one was smaller that what came with the caps. We used to throw those away. You pop the bag through each hole at an angle to make it easier and not stab the client in the head and then redirect the needle downward. There is a technique that I probably cant explain where you kinda do sewing machine motion through a whole line and that makes it even faster. Those loops you spoke of were usually taken out by combing out the hair once you've finished. How we kept the bleach from bleeding was to mix it super thick. I hope I was helpful some. Its been forever since I used this technique one I learned to foil I never looked back.
I only ever get cap highlights, my amazing hair lady doesn't know how to do foils - they always look perfect when she does them. I have done them at home many, many times as well - using your technique...I tried foils once and it was a disaster, and I felt horrible for cheating on my sylist. Just wanted to say, I love the 'old school' way much better!
I was told to use a little powder to get better pulling thru the cap and the use a paddle brush to get some the loops that may be there pulled thru. I really only used caps on shorter pixie length hair. I had a client insisted on and all over color then cap highlights.
I grew up with my grandmother having a beauty shop in her house. The cap highlighting was the thing . It’s how I’ve done my hair for years. I just can’t afford to have it highlighted every few months. The trick, I’ve learned is moderation. Tiny strands not chunks. And when I do get my hair cut at the salon, she always said I did an amazing job. Practice makes perfect. Lol
PRO-CAP DISSERTATION:💁🏼♀️ It’s strange to me that it’s strange to this younger generation to use a cap for highlights.🤨 I’ve been highlighting my own hair for over 40 years & mostly use a cap! I went to beauty school in the 80’s so it was definitely the norm to use highlighting caps. However I’ve also had long hair most of my life like mid back to waist length so the type of cap matters for long hair! The tight rubber caps are a big painful NO for long hair! The rubber is too tight & the long hair just tangles up under the cap every pull until you can’t even get any hair out. It is brutally painful bc the long hair mats up way too bad underneath. The foam cap is most comfortable for long hair. The hair slides through with ease. But I avoided the foam cap back in the day before dark roots were in style because the thickness of the foam made it impossible to get highlights close to the scalp. Now with a root smudge it would be fine to use a foam cap. I still usually just use the same plastic cap as in the video so it’s not too tight, is thin & loose & close to the scalp. As for control of highlight placement: Yes you can control it with a cap once you learn the skills of pulling through the cap! It’s just like to me foils seem too streaky & tedious with less control because of the time differentiation of applying the bleach meaning it takes too darn long to pick out foil pieces & get the volume of bleach equalized to the variable in processing time…that would drive me crazy! So basically, with the cap you learn that it matters how the hair lays under the caps to where you want to place the highlights. Center part with hair straight down around the head & slightly back around face is best on long hair. But even before I put the cap on, with long hair, I make sure hair is well conditioned, dry, then very straight flat ironed bc the more slick & straight the hair is the easier it is for it to slide through when you pull it eliminating the snagging looping & pain! Next you learn that you can also adjust placement by how deep you dig with the needle…I usually let the needle just touch the scalp then pull it up at an angle which is the same direction on one side then opposite on the other side. And if the needle poke is painful you’re doing it wrong! No! You’re not supposed to stab the person in the scalp with the needle! Go in with the needle at an angle to pop the plastic then tap the scalp, & grab the hair at an angle using the underside of the cap to press the needle up & out. Then you learn where to pull face framing pieces by how you laid the hair under the cap. You should see the hairline & pull money pieces on sides of the part. You also learn to get variation by pulling more where you want more color! The pre made holes & circles are given as a grid you learn to use for placement & you can also make your own hole wherever you want a highlight. You also learn that you do not have to pull hair through using the entire cap every time. For my hair sometimes I only pull the crown & around my face hairline. Or I pull most at crown & around hairline but sparsely in the lower back. You also don’t have to just slap bleach all over at the same time. Like since I always have highlights on the ends I do the roots & mid strands first then pull the bleach through ends at the last few minutes. You can also use color variations. As for hole bleed through it is avoided by 1. Don’t dig in the hole to make it any bigger than the needle & 2. Use bleach mixture that is thick like cake icing & it won’t be liquid enough to seep into the holes. Finally, I almost fainted when you pulled the cap off with bleach still on the hair! If that had been a human she surely would have punched you from the pain & you risked bad hair breakage! Lol Always shampoo first with the cap On! For long hair I leave the shampoo ON to remove the cap & it slides right off nicely~pain & tangle free! So now that root smudge & root tap is in style cap highlighting is the best way to go! I have long layers in the crown, I pull heavily in the crown & around my face, apply bleach to roots & mid strands first, then through the ends, with shampoo on, remove cap, shampoo & condition well, rinse comb out then root smudge, rinse & done! No toner even needed! Every 3-4th time I pull a few highlights in lower back as well. So there you have it! The cap is the winner hands down once you know how to use it! Y’all can wrestle with that foil business all day long but I’ll be done & onto something else while y’all still weaving & folding & mixing! Lol You’re welcome, from a highlighted 60’s baby! 🦋✌🏼☮️✌🏼🦋
Thank you so much for this! You've helped a LOT of people understand what should and can be a simple, fun, and effective process. (Like you, I don't actually understand why other folks think cap highlights are weird. I did this to my hair in the early 2000s and it looked AMAZING!)
Brad: "you look absolutely stunning" Me, in the middle of the night, unable to get back to sleep because of depression and intrusive thoughts, tears streaming down my face: thank you
@@SatiDevi444 I'm on antidepressants, melatonin, and prescription sleep meds. 😂 If you meant meditation, I have tried many times but can't relax or focus enough for it to work.
@@purplelover128 I take those too. Meditation is good in a hot bath with some relaxing music or even just drawing is a form of meditation, the Buddhist monks make Mandela's.
Okay, 1. I’m LIVING for this hair color on you! 😍 2. As a stylist, I still use a cap.. only on really short hair when it’s the best way to achieve the blonde they want! (Which is pretty rare. Lol) I personally feel like the highlights from a cap on long hair are too concentrated and there is no rhyme or reason to it! With foil you get to cocktail your foil pattern for each client!
Paige Ammann I totally agree cap highlights are perfect for a really short hair especially on guys. You can do a light dusting or you can go and make them heavier. Very fast and easy great results . But on longhair no . ❤️
Inlove how in around 90% of brad’s videos start with “This is not a good idea” “This will turn out bad” And then it ends with “This actually turned out good” “This is not bad”
U should make a video where u set up Manny Kin w 4 sections of hair w all different strengths bleach and explain what the different 10 20 30 40 all look like starting from the same like neutral brown
Good idea! But pls correct me if I’m wrong.. don’t you choose the level depending on how dark your hair is? Like the darker your hair, the higher level? So it wouldn’t make a difference on the same neutral brown hair? I have virgin hair so I literally don’t know crap but if it has nothing to do with that, then it’s a great idea lol
Cynthia Lopez op might mean either different strengths of developer or just how light it gets considering how long you leave the bleach in... probably both
The second you’re done learning and growing in any field especially hair you’re done and you’re basically saying that you know everything which is never true, I love it Brad always continue to learn and find new tricks and tips❤
I dyed my mom's hair last week....and she was shooketh at how good it turned out and was confused where I learned all the techniques...credits to you sister Brad ❤️❤️ UA-cam be learning me more than school ever will lmao
Thank you for your honest review. As a DIYer who will be a student on a budget, this is very encouraging. I'd only add a few foils around the hairline. 🙂 Also read about using caps for highlights *and* lowlights with face-framing foils. Want to try this.
I was doing hair in the 80s when cap highlighting started. Yes, you can totally face frame with it. Our pro caps were latex and had TINY holes and we could even use the hook to punch more holes. That + hairpainting were the main ways we highlighted and I still honestly trust it more than foils.
BRAD I LITERALLY GAVE MYSELF CAP HIGHLIGHTS YESTERDAY AND THEY TURNED OUT GOOD IM SO SHOOK ARE TOU PROUD!?!?! may have used 40 vol developer but SHUSHHH
I love capping!! Did it in the 80’s and 90’s, early 2000’s. Started growing out my grey last year. Went back to a cap highlight to make an easier transition. All grey now, but still love the look of capping.
2019 Brad: I don't like brown hair 2020 Brad: Is suddenly brunette and not even acknowledging it I AM SO SHOOK 😍😍😍 I'M NOT EVEN A DRAMATIC PERSON AT ALL BUT I LITERALLY CANNOT BREATHE RN I---
It could be that he is letting his hair grow to do a redo. Give his hair a break before it goes through a round of highlights. I prefer the dark hair though..
@@jjcymbolic cannot even put into words how attracted I am to him rn, he looked great blonde of course but this new darker look is just 😍😍😍 idk how bc I'm a girl attracted to girls and he's into men but WE CAN MAKE THIS WORK BRAD I PROMISE PLS 😂😭
Hope Hefley same!! I’ve stuck with caps bc of a couple bad foil experiences anddd bc my mom is a hair dresser who only uses caps haha, I’ve been telling her for years that it’s out of style but she doesn’t care😂 probably bc 99% of her clients are women over 40. I’ve been thinking about finding a reputable hair dresser who’s great with foils (like on Brads level) so I can see what it looks like when it’s actually done right bc I’ve seen some truly amazing foil jobs in videos and stuff. Anyway I totally agree this turned out surprisingly well! 💜💜💜
My mom was a professional hair dresser, she highlighted her hair using caps all throughout the 80s. She would have her 10 yr old daughter (me) pull her hair through. I can tell you she always told me to pull the hair through starting at the top first working by our way down. Then depending on the styles she wanted she would pull more through close to the face. Of course making sure the hair is pulled tightly through. There’s also different sized hooks and caps for the size highlights you want. Overall I actually like the way it turned out!
My mom was not a hair dresser but the rest of your story mimics mine. around 10 years old my mom had be "frosting" her hair that was very fine and very dark so I had to careful on the amount pulled in. I would add more to frame her face. I would use a small hook and always start at the top and work down, also rinse before removing the cap. With practice and a little finesse her hair as well as my sisters hair turned out pretty good.
Same! My mom always did highlights this way and I loved mine! It looked natural because it wasn’t perfectly placed etc. I even did her’s for her. I got really good at it. I did it for friends too. Lol. My mom always says she taught me enough that if I were to go to cosmetology school it would be too hard to unlearn her ways. 😂
My mom did this at home in the 80's too. Her cap was rubber and it hurt like hell to take off and on, lol. She also crocheted so she had all different sized hooks she could use depending on what size highlights she wanted.
I do mine, often, I straighten my hair first, and you are actually supposed to rinse the bleach off before you remove the cap, it slides off no problem. My curls pop like crazy when I do this.
My friend used a new cap but didn't enlarge the tiny holes and tortured my scalp the entire time. She was talking so much as she pulled my thick hair through each hole. She covered my grey hair really well but my highlights weren't as bright as I wanted. Never ever again would I use a cap for highlighting. My scalp was sore for a few days afterwards.
I bought a silicone cap, hopefully it will be easier than the plastic cap. I feel much better about using it after this video. In the 80's we called them frosting caps. Thx Brad!
I used these box cap kits in the early 2000s and it always came out good. I then started going to a salon who messed up my foils and I had uneven crooked marks from the foils. Never happened with the cap kit LOL. I just ordered one from WalMart can't wait haha.
I remember him replying on someone's comment that he is coloring his hair darker and darker while it grows. I think it is because he wants to soften the color change
If you want to be technical it would be streaks 🤣that’s why Highlights is in quotes 🤣 I’m aware they aren’t highlights, they also aren’t low lights, they are streaks. I used “highlights” because that’s what the cap is made for.
Oh my God I love you! Brad would kill me but I used to use box dye and color my own hair and I was going through the process once and decided to give myself a facial mask too. My land lady's grandson happened to be over and he was only 4 years old and jumped up and down and screamed oh my God she dyed her face too! We couldn't breathe we were dying laughing!
Well Brad as someone who has done the cap since 1974, I can offer up some tips. Use a sharpie to mark where you want first, pre poke the holes , you can go in the hole closest to the too much hair pull and pull some out and even it, I recently did cap to even up my quarantine hair I had such long dark roots ( no gray even at 60) so Instead of highlight I dyed the pulled hairs as close to my natural as possible, came out great! It’s a great way to let highlights grow out softly . I mess up big time trying to foil myself , it is best for short to medium hair , too long and it’s just painful.
Brad.. I'm watching this and considering doing my own (but less than this) summer highlights.. Just a few sunkissed highlights.. you know. PLEASE MAKE A QUARANTINE HIGHLIGHT VIDEO BEFORE I MAKE A MISTAKE.
@@timechangeseverybody3608 thats true i use it once a week and my hair is getting blonder but it does not give the same result as a bleach. Usually it makes all the hair the same color at least thats what happened in my hair srry ma bad english
This works well on my extremely thick hair so that I dont overprocess. A full foil application on my hair takes like 4 hours and I always end up with damage. I prefer this way
Every Brad Mondo video ever: "This is gonna go wrong...this is gonna look bad..omg this is not gonna look good, xyz reasons why this will go horribly wrong." "Oh that's actually not bad." 🤣🤣
@Anne Thomas Lol yeah I love it too! I love how surprised he is when it all turns out okay 😅 And yeah the fact he can admit it is great! He is so fun to watch!
I’ve spent the last three hours crying till my eyes hurt and just hearing brad say “thank you for being here” I know he’s referring to just watching the video but it was the perfect moment and I’m just so thankful for this mans videos and his constant positivity thank you Brad ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for this video, I just lightened my hair for the very first time today, and while I only used a 20 developer and I do like the color, I VERY much learned that *I* will not be coordinated enough to be doing a babylight weave pick-out on myself anytime soon. Quick thing- If you get really shook about the amount the hook is pulling...its basically just a cotton doily crochet hook, they come in many, and MUCH smaller sizes than you get in the box kits. Look for steel needles, the bigger the number, the smaller the needle. Ive got one more ounce of bleach powder...might go grab my cap and hit it again... Thanks so much for the guidance Brad!!! You are literally the best thing elevating my standards on my own DIY dye jobs right now!! Wouldnt have tried lightening without you.
When I was a hairdressing apprentice 15 years ago in a middle income suburban salon working under a boss who has his best years in the 70s and 80s we still did 50/50 highlights to foils. Done right on the right client, they are perfect and cost effective. When I want an all over highlighted look I still do them on myself. They deserve a comeback with good technique. I reckon they will have their time around again for sure!
Now as someone who has finally figured out the proper way to cap highlight and foil highlight ( it's super hard to foul highlight the back of my head) so I talked to a few hair dressers that have used the cap an know the ins an outs, so as soon. As I started following her instructions I started getting really nice results that even my boy ( who is a professional hair stylist) was pretty impressed with my results hehehe but with Brad's helpful tips in toners and bleach washes and what not, they have been stunning
I will say I have done this three times, it doesn’t look terrible it’s super affordable and when styled it looks great! Edit- my hair is black and this still turned out great
"Maybe cap highlighting is gonna be the future?". My grandma did this when she was young 30 years ago. It was very popular back then. It was called "Coupe Soleil".
Would you get a cap highlight???
You are amazing💓
My 2000s me probably yes now my self Will kill me

Thanks for this!

Lærke Besand please say if it worked! 😂
Well my hair is gone cause i got some gold ideas
me and my mom decided that we’re going to highlight my hair with foils instead, brad scared me to much😂😂😂
Some tips if you’re doing this at home: start from the top and work your way down when plucking out hair, otherwise you will start pulling hair out that has already been taken out below it causing massive tangling.
Thank you!!!
This is really good advice, and I'm also someone who has done this MANY times with great results!
Okay but if want to do a darker color to other parts (the non highlighted ones) while doing this cap method then what would you suggest? And how do you maintain the highlights like redoing them and stuff?
i plan to do this with blonde highlights and then go in and do purple highlights
To add, yes rinse the hair before you remove the cap but add conditioner if you used bleach so the hair slides out of the holes easier.
I love how this channel is 95% him saying “this method is bad” at the start and then at the end it always is contradicted
Brad's channel brand is dumb luck XD Just constant surprised pikachu

As a professional that still does cap highlights sometimes, there are a few tricks.
1) use caps that are one layer and don’t have premade holes.
2) put the under a dryer for about 10 mins after you pull it through to help shrink the holes around the hair to help with bleed spots
3) use pro hooks, they are smaller and sharper so they don’t make as big of holes
And don’t pull off the cap before rinsing out the hair!
Jenni Miles I’m a hairstylist also and ocassionally still use caps, I cringed when he pulled out the cap before rinsing. He should know better!
Also another thing I would add is he pokes in on an angle which you should get the hair from exactly where the hole is! still love him though :)
Not a hairdresser. What is the issue taking cap off before washing? The colour will be removed straight away and it's finished processing?
One thing I love about Brad is that even if he is skeptical about something or doesn’t like it, he still tries it and makes the best about it!

That's how I learned to do it! VERY well explained!
@@sandraholloman6048 Thank you so much! I'm glad I'm not the only one that learned all that.
Good explanation. We learned to pull from the top down to cause less pain and less chunks coming out.
Lol
I love how he’s never negatively judgmental, he’s always like oh that doesn’t look bad I was wrong my bad you look stunning
The end result looks like Jennifer Aniston's severed head.

Omg yes!
Yeah her hair hasn’t changed much since the 90s 🤷🏼♀️😂
I mean, why change a working recipe?
More specifically she has "The Rachel"
PRO-CAP DISSERTATION:💁🏼♀️
It’s strange to me that it’s strange to this younger generation to use a cap for highlights.🤨
I’ve been highlighting my own hair for over 40 years & mostly use a cap!
As for control of highlight placement:
Yes you can control it with a cap once you learn the skills of pulling through the cap!
Lol
Always shampoo first with the cap On!
Lol
You’re welcome,
from a highlighted 60’s baby!

Yesss start from the top
Same
My mom did this at home in the 80's too. Her cap was rubber and it hurt like hell to take off and on, lol. She also crocheted so she had all different sized hooks she could use depending on what size highlights she wanted.
I'm very curious to see how a curly headed girl like me is gonna pull those little strings of hair with no pain and absolute grace.
I do mine, often, I straighten my hair first, and you are actually supposed to rinse the bleach off before you remove the cap, it slides off no problem. My curls pop like crazy when I do this.
painful even for people with fine straight hair
Everyone wants naturally curly hair then you learn about the ✨struggle✨ of basic hair care and daily hair routines
@@christinamartinez8132 omg that looks painful ash. Did u go to a professional afterwards tho??
The mannequin's hair looks better than my hair has ever looked.
yep, mine too...I just got salty at a mannequin... ugh !

This mannequin cost about 100 or 200 dollars

Was anybody else worried for Brad’s beautiful shirt the whole time or was that just me?
thats a beautiful shirt? huh?
Lauren yes it is! and he looks so good in it, so even if that isn’t your idea of a good shirt he definitely pulls it off haha
@@lei.7970 well thats what he shd do with it....pull it off n throw it away!
@@Lauren-vd4qe most of your comments seem like trolling. Great use of your time.

That’s exactly what I thought lol
It's a Cynthia doll.
yesss i forgot what i was looking at for a second and was really freaked out
You should try this on reverse. Like blonde hair with darker streaks.
Helly Herbivore love that idea!
It works both ways! This was a very common technique in the 80s!!
I bought a silicone cap, hopefully it will be easier than the plastic cap. I feel much better about using it after this video. In the 80's we called them frosting caps. Thx Brad!
Brad: "you look absolutely stunning"
me: * lying down with a double chin* oh thank you!
Lina Hegazy so accurate
I like that your doing something newish to you, just like it would be for us. LMAO.

I was gonna comment this but I thought I was he only one
YES
Idk if it’s just me but he also kinda looks like Lucien from The Originals in my opinion
First thing I noticed! 😂
Yesss!!!
I used these box cap kits in the early 2000s and it always came out good. I then started going to a salon who messed up my foils and I had uneven crooked marks from the foils. Never happened with the cap kit LOL. I just ordered one from WalMart can't wait haha.
I feel like your hair is getting darker in every video lately
Trying to convince everyone he doesn't only like blondes 😆
I think he might be tired of the bleach maintenance or wanted a haircut before he bleached again
And ngl I'm lovviiinnnngggg it
I remember him replying on someone's comment that he is coloring his hair darker and darker while it grows. I think it is because he wants to soften the color change
@@surejan6337 coloring? He ain't fooling anybody 😂😂 that's his natural hair color
Okay but like... I want to get a cap.. and dye my hair blue, then do the “highlights” as dark blue streaks!
Kate R that just sounds like the best idea ever but they’re called lowlights hun
Lowlights provide a natural result, which won’t happen if she dyed it blue.
If you want to be technical it would be streaks 🤣that’s why Highlights is in quotes 🤣 I’m aware they aren’t highlights, they also aren’t low lights, they are streaks. I used “highlights” because that’s what the cap is made for.
Sorry I was correcting the other woman, not you! I think the blue will look great!
That's what I did
Brad: you look ...absolutely stunning today
Me: *with a face mask, messy bun, and acne* Thank you!! You too
Oh my God I love you!
And you can get face frame just mark the holes
Looks like Jennifer Anniston’s hair when she was a couple seasons into friends ❤️
That's exacly what I want for my hair!😍
THANK YOU!! i was just about to comment the same thing!
i always wanted her hair
Brad: “I don’t want you to get ideas at home”
Me: (already thinking whether I should go get a highlighting cap)
🤣🤣
Right?! Imagine Jenna Marbles offering this at her ratchet salon 😂
Same! I've been contemplating doing my hair in some way, not sure what to do with it!
I have a box on my dresser right meow 🤣
Yeah I might need to try this next time I lighten to mix it up a bit 😂
@@jazzy10459 Someone message Jenna this video! lol I need another ratchet salon video! xD
Brad.. I'm watching this and considering doing my own (but less than this) summer highlights.. Just a few sunkissed highlights.. you know. PLEASE MAKE A QUARANTINE HIGHLIGHT VIDEO BEFORE I MAKE A MISTAKE.
did u do it?
Sun in spray and get in the sun actually works and gives a pretty sun bleach color
@@timechangeseverybody3608 thats true
i use it once a week and my hair is getting blonder
but it does not give the same result as a bleach. Usually it makes all the hair the same color
at least thats what happened in my hair
srry ma bad english
This works well on my extremely thick hair so that I dont overprocess. A full foil application on my hair takes like 4 hours and I always end up with damage. I prefer this way
Every Brad Mondo video ever:
"This is gonna go wrong...this is gonna look bad..omg this is not gonna look good, xyz reasons why this will go horribly wrong."
"Oh that's actually not bad." 🤣🤣
@Anne Thomas Lol yeah I love it too! I love how surprised he is when it all turns out okay 😅
And yeah the fact he can admit it is great!
He is so fun to watch!

Thank you so much for this video, I just lightened my hair for the very first time today, and while I only used a 20 developer and I do like the color, I VERY much learned that *I* will not be coordinated enough to be doing a babylight weave pick-out on myself anytime soon.
Quick thing-
If you get really shook about the amount the hook is pulling...its basically just a cotton doily crochet hook, they come in many, and MUCH smaller sizes than you get in the box kits.
Wow the hair ended up looking like Rachel’s hair when she was in friends!!!

I reckon they will have their time around again for sure!
loz6702 you’re so pretty 💕
Now as someone who has finally figured out the proper way to cap highlight and foil highlight ( it's super hard to foul highlight the back of my head) so I talked to a few hair dressers that have used the cap an know the ins an outs, so as soon. As I started following her instructions I started getting really nice results that even my boy ( who is a professional hair stylist) was pretty impressed with my results hehehe but with Brad's helpful tips in toners and bleach washes and what not, they have been stunning
