Formerly homeless here. The person with the eyes cut out and condom thing I can't speak for that but people live in tunnels all the time. Most people don't really realize there's a city beneath their city. The Mole

@Wazowski which is unfortunate when it rains, as there are homeless folks here that have been killed during flash floods that quickly fill the tunnels and sweep them away/bang them around helplessly until they either drown or pass away from the injuries. I also saw a video somewhere on UA-cam about homeless people that have made quite a good setup under Ceasers palace. (Edited to specify for folks that don’t know, that’s a hotel/casino on the strip with a prominent Ancient Greek theme and has a really neat and free animatronic statue show, at least they did pre-Covid, I haven’t been many places since this mess so I dunno what’s going on lol)

People that say it was the homeless guy: how could that be possible? The condom was full of, presumably, somewhat fresh blood. And that homeless dude was already dead. That means the blood would've already been dried up and crusty. So it couldn't have been him.

But that's kinda why I believe it- there's very little storytelling here. It's not like they find a body or are attacked by the homeless person. There's nothing promising a next chapter. I can't imagine someone putting this much effort into a hoax with no payoff.

this is just a homeless man honestly, the only part i find weird is the photos with their eyes cut out or the cigarette burns (which tbh could just be misogyny). the bloody condom is creepy but if you think about it, blood in semen/urine is a pretty common STD symptom, and the rate of homeless people with STDs is pretty high. OP says there was only one homeless guy in town, but if this person was living in this bridge and probably spending most of his time down there, the locals probably wouldn’t know about it
edit: i’ve addressed it in the comments but the reason i suggested misogyny in regards to the photos is that the defacing of erotic photos of women, especially the cigarette burn in the genital area, could be an indicator of how this person feels about women

I remember reading this on Reddit and was more sad than creeped out. As many other comments mentioned, this was probably the makeshift home of a homeless person. I want to add that he or she probably lives with mental health issues. All the items found in the photos point to these facts. The outlier is the bloody condom, which I believe is the special thing that gives the story that essential creepypasta feeling. We are probably all assuming that whatever happened with the condom was undoubtedly sexual, weird, and sadistic in nature, but it's quite possible that the condom, much like the milk jug, was used in a different way than it was originally intended.

I agree that it's likely a homeless person who was living there, although maybe not full time? So he came back every now and then and that explains why some stuff was missing the second time OP visited. My first thought with the photos is that they're pictures of ex-wives/girlfriends who the homeless man had bad breakups with? So he took out his anger at them by abusing the photos the way he did. Like a more creative version of the "throwing darts at someone's photo" cliche. The bloody condom is the weirdest and creepiest part, but I tend to think that "blood-filled" might be a bit of an exaggeration, and maybe the condom just had very visible blood inside it? As opposed to the whole thing being blown up like a water balloon. Since the former could be explained by a medical issue that hadn't been treated.

could you imagine a completely dark tunnel, with crawl spaces, to then stumble across a random chair facing a wall - that isn’t something you come across on the streets of SF everyday now is it?

It is most probably a homeless person. What worries me is the burning of genital areas and the dehumanization(by ripping out the eyes and defacement) of photos of women posing a sexual/sensual context, that just feels like they have issues with women and have power assertive fantasies where the unknown person harms the images. My issue is that a lot of times individuals with these behaviors tend to escalate their behavior over time to the point of the fantasy not being enough and the need to harm real people arises . So let's hope I'm wrong, and just reading way too much into it and being paranoid.

The thing that I particularly wondered about was the piece of crime scene tape. It was just a piece and didn't seem to be big enough to be marking off the area. Still, though, that's pretty concerning. I'm honestly surprised they didn't find a dead body or anything. Maybe someone was kidnapped and held there (possibly ab*sed there too). The condom thing makes me think maybe if that happened and the sicko was trying to s*xually assault the victim, that the victim fought back. Idk I'm just speculating of course

However to survive without many materials, you need a knife and some rope. I know I've played survival games for a while but there's a reason so many people's grandfathers and fathers carried Swiss army knives in the case of an emergency. You need a knife. The fact the knife wasn't dirty in an area that it would be filthy in had a crime been committed? That says someone's opening boxes/plastic since the scissors we saw aren't exactly suited for those bigger jobs.
And for candles to last longer, you need to do some trimming of the wick. You'd need the knife and the scissors.

The rope, the knife, and the makeshift cot are all useful things to have around when you're homeless. Subscribing right away!! Welsh myself and from a really rural town and had a similar experience. I can really verify whoever this guy was, our larger cities such as Cardiff and Swansea (neither of which are in north Wales where this story is set.) They have a lot of homeless but its been an increasing problem over the last ten years, and certainly was not as widespread or common in 2012 as it is now. While living in Swansea and often interacting with members of the homeless community another notable point was that very few of them were from the area or even Welsh originally and a lot had made their way to Wales as 1. said Welsh towns are the last train stops for anyone traveling on the great western rail line that spans much of middle England and 2. As Wales has a much smaller population, roughly 3million, folk are usually more generous and there is a lot more help and services here available to the homeless. I could be absolutely wrong but this doesn't seem like a homeless persons doing, and certainly not one that often stayed in that small north Welsh town, it seems to me this is someone with a double life, going into that space to do, whatever, but only staying for a short time, there are a tone of abandoned buildings in Wales and usually our communities are very tight knit so everyone is in each others business, if someone did have disturbing urges, hiding them away like this is certainly the thing they'd do. As for my experience when i was much younger, around 16, my friends and I were in a small town not far from Cardiff attending a rock concert, we didn't get out until around 12am by which time it was pitch black outside, we looked around for anywhere seemingly safe to wait for our ride home and saw there was a small corner shop still open for business, presumably 24hours. We headed inside without a thought and saw several elderly men behind the counter with their backs to us looking at something in the small space behind the till and the front desk. We grabbed some drinks for the road and headed to the till, but getting there my teenage stomach dropped, as the elderly men (and i mean old couldn't have been younger then 60) were fixated at a small tv mounted on the back wall, where some very hardcore porn was playing loudly enough to be clearly heard and seen from the till (checkout) , don't want to kink shame but this stuff looked rough, and i mean snuff film level rough, and grainy, presumably an old video type? Id say id have blushed but something about the situation was so wrong to me, this was a public place, in a small town, and these men looked as though they could be my grandfather, dressed in their Sunday best. The oldest of our friendship group, around 20 coughed to get their attention, only one , very large, very overweight man approached the till and served our drinks without a word, only glaring at us, we left asap and safe to say I've never been back to that particular town since, I always count myself lucky that we were a group of young men that wondered in that night with those creeps and not some poor young lass o her own. Wales is usually a calm, beautiful and friendly place to live, but on the rare occasion things get weird here, they get weird.

So... we're just not going to talk about the police tape that says it's a crime scene?
The reason I don't believe this is made-up is that it seems like an awful lot of effort to go to for a story that doesn't go anywhere. If it was fictional, wouldn't they have encountered the person or been attacked? Wouldn't there be some payoff? If it were an ARG, wouldn't there be a clue or some code to follow? If the photos were staged, wouldn't the items carry more significance? He mentioned a bloody condom, which would have been a really easy thing to stage, so if it was made up, wouldn't he have shown us the condom? There's not enough actual narrative here to make me think that someone's just spinning yarns. I buy it.

Just because it doesn't have all the common traits of every dumbass fictional nosleep story doesn't mean it's NOT fictional. If someone wanted to make up a fictional but believable story, leaving out the spookier shit is how you'd do it. And people put a lot of effort into things that are pretty pointless. I'm not really convinced about it being truth or fiction. There's too many weird things - like the space is too clean for it to be a homeless person and is missing stuff you'd expect to find from someone who's living there - but the way it's written just comes off as too "this is my fiction-writing style" to me. I don't find it particularly convincing as a true story but it's kind of boring to be fiction, unless the person is good enough at knowing what stuff screams of being fake that he knew to leave it pretty simple so it wouldn't be obviously fake.

I’m retired now, but part of my job was to sample water, wastewater, and stormwater so I often came across places where homeless people lived, including access tunnels such as this. I did wonder whether if they had explored further past the living area they might have come across a second closer manhole to the surface that would be the inhabitant’s main entrance exit. That would mean the area they went through and found the biowaste was the inhabitant’s trash disposal area. But it was curious there were no empty food tins that would inevitably be found near such a site, not to mention discarded cigarette packs, beer cans, wine/liquor bottles, and/or drug paraphernalia. Additionally there was no sign or mention of insects that would normally be found in such places such as cockroaches, spiders, scorpions, etc. Also if that manhole was left unsecured I would have expected quite a bit of graffiti tagged in at least the first few yards of where they entered. As for the pictures, yes, I often found discarded porn materials at or near such places. Finally, regarding the condom, blood in semen can be caused by urinary infections, tuberculosis, various STDs, and other conditions often left untreated in the homeless, but a condom full of nothing but blood is indeed disturbing. Just a few thoughts.

Well, this place probably has little to no air coming through. Maybe 1 or 2 vents (like the one where you can see the road underneath. So the waste & items is going to be there a while, being absorbed by the concrete until it takes on the smell. Plus there's no insects, rain or soil in the dungeon/bunker to break down any of it. Which makes me think (pretty confidently) all that was left by a hobo passing through the area; They probably didn't go through the town per se, just that area along the highway. They likely saw the manhole, took a look & may have seen it as an opportunity to wait out a winter. So they started living in the bridge trying to go unnoticed. Then when they left, it makes sense they left the bigger/gross stuff in the bunker/dungeon & took what was already in their bag and left. In that moment, this hobo/homeless person had set the stage for some adventuresome young boys to find their temporary shelter and be horrified by its contents, kinda like "Stand By Me" (movie, 1986).

When I was younger the outhouses located in the mountains of western Montana used in the late 1800s early 1900s still had an odor I would be more interested in the bed. I (along with some friends) once explored an area in my city, that was about to get demolished. A lot of homeless people lived in the abandoned buildings. When we entered a former apartment, we found a room covered in newspaper articles. They were wallpapered all over the place, even the windows were covered in paper. All articles were about aliens and extraterrestrial sightings. And there were strings all over the ceiling with (I believe it was chicken) bones attached to them. We were terrified and left faster than we arrived, I mean, we ran, screaming, because we thought the aliens were coming to get us (lol). We still talk about it sometimes today. Sadly the area is gone now.
I think the people that were living there decorated their rooms as creepy as possible on purpose, to scare unwanted visitors (like us) away. I mean, how else do they get privacy?
Maybe it was a similar intention in the bridge case?

I'm from the town that this bridge is in, it's in Old Colwyn, North Wales, and I've been to this bridge a lot of times. The entry to it is closed off now, but there used to be a homeless man who was pretty ill mentally who lived in it. He's dead too now (like, the early 2000s). There was no dead bodies or murders or anything. Also I've a strong hunch I know who wrote this and if so, they really really elaborated on their original story, in which they spooked themselves going into it thinking they heard someone else in there but left before they found out, none of the stuff about photos etc. Anyone has any questions about the area, happy to answer.

That sounds possible as the catatonia poster and the magazine from 1997 and old pot noodle dates a lot of the stuff in the bridge to the late 90s

Hello grandma from England here, it would not be the first time a homeless person or maybe a group of them to set up camps in places like this, we have a lot of fly overs like that all around the country, they will sleep under them and occasionally find a way into one

The magazine clipping on the wall dated 1997 does not automatically mean it has been there since 1997- someone could have been put up there a week before the guy went back with his camera in 2010(?). Also, it is very likely this spot has been occupied by different people at different times over the years.

I grew up near that bridge, my sister and I are currently discussing it. The bridge is definitely real, as is the opening on the beach side of the bridge. I can't comment on how real the inside is, but I did see a video of people actually going into it years ago. I haven't been able to find it again though.

It’s either a homeless person OR as someone who works in construction I’ve seen weirder shit just set up before we’ve left a job site for someone to maybe find one day.
I slap fun giant stickers anywhere I can around places before we seal them.
Or it’s just someone’s fake little story which is also believable.

Sounds like they found a houseless person's home. Saying there's only one houseless person in town doesn't mean anything unless everyone always keeps tabs on them 100% of the time, which I highly doubt is happening. If these kids could go into the tunnel undetected, then obviously a houseless person could, too. Also, consider the fact that train hoppers exist. Maybe someone rolled into town, stayed there for a while, then hopped on another train.
I used to live in a city with a large houseless population, and there were so many pee jugs around town that someone actually made a social media account dedicated to documenting them with artsy-fartsy photographs. It is more sad than gross to me that people have to use bottles because they don't have plumbing, or there isn't enough access to public facilities.

Reality is always stranger. Just a homeless guy with a mental illness and an STD, possibly even multiple homeless guys, that lives in the bridge. The poop, trash, and candles just make me think that much and that he kept the porn corner farther away from the "living area" cements it for me. They always checked it out in the daytime, too, and not in snowy weather, so it could even stand to reason that it's a place the 'owner' only uses at night or in bad weather conditions. Pooping/peeing in buckets and bags makes cleaning up easy, as he can just carry it outside and toss it rather than letting it build up forever. Burning bits of a photo might just be a way to interact with it or misogyny, cutting out the eyes could be the same as throwing a sheet over a doll that feels like it's watching you when you sleep.
