Oh didn’t expect to see you here ! Thanks for the constant uploads !
Love you Vapor Memory, thanks for all you do on YT for the community.
Met George at the Richmond show of the 100% electronica tour and hes super humble and loves the fans. He had great energy and practically jumped in the crowd for every song. Truly a visionary and pioneer
rip george jumping
@@janglyjohn4635 he's back now 😎

Hi everyone, Padthony Chentano here
Pad Chennington ayyyy
George Clanton looks like a really cool dood, no irony. Like just the right amounts of lowkey shyness and warm openness :)
i like dis comment
I saw him on the 29th and it was really fun. Very energetic and loved to jump into the crowd and sing with everyone. I talked with him before the show quite a bit and he was super nice and even kept the conversation going by asking me questions. Definitely want to see him again when I can.

@@bossfeild3523 What is unbelievable about this?
Bossfeild I can confirm this claim, dude was eating pizza out of a box while signing things and talking to people in Austin in November. George is pretty cool!
Sp Meower that they met bowie
@@bossfeild3523 If he says that he did in the video, I haven't watched much of the video yet, so I didn't know. Even if I did watch it, your comment was really out of context unless you thought I was referring to Bowie when I was referring to George.

My name is David Bowie. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone
This is the best comment I've ever seen in a melonman video
That's nice

I've been making vaporwave since 2015.
I feel it really is much more and much more varied than the "memewave" that most assume it only is.
I don't sample in my songs, but the use of sampling has never delegitimized a genre before, and it shouldn't now.
Sure some vw artists rely too heavily on samples, but that shouldn't speak for the entire genre.
Just my two cents
Absolutely agree man.
When someone says its justa meme genre and is only samples "slowed down" I point them to SURFING and their album Deep Fantasy.
Sure, slowed samples, but they throw in their own singing/lyrics and instrumentation. The songs are definitely theirs and not jist samples.
got a link to your songs dude ? I want to check your stuff
@@ECAT556 oh yeah sure! Here's a little bit of it. biigmistake.bandcamp.com/album/inside-job
Can we resurrect this thread? fr tho...?
I think the reason why George has had such success is that he incorporates live instruments and live vocals and has a lot of different parts and moving parts in his songs. Vaporwave in general was pretty stale which is why it died out quite a bit. Even George and Anthony said the same in this interview. If you're not going to take this sound forward like George did I Would never recommend anyone doing this type of music. Not only will it most likely not get super popular but it won't be worth much to the artform and genre.
He seems like such a chill genuine guy
STOP cutting him off Tony...geez
I thought his name was George
I'm gay

Pretty messed up to bring Bowie back to life with dark blood magic just for a interview, Melon.
Saw the last show of the 100% Electronica tour in Brooklyn and I was not prepared for how great it was.
I mean I LOVE the Slide album and I've been a fan of all the Esprit stuff. But George is not lying when he says the live show is the ultimate experience of the music. It takes on a completely different character. The music is all there. The sounds and lyrics are immediately familiar. But it is transformed by the energy.
And I think it is really because of the specific blend of influence that Slide is borne of. How do we dance at a Clanton show? There were times I felt we were about to open up a pit. There were times I was grooving and vibing out. The hype was pervasive. Our man started the set in a Seal t-shirt like a boss.
Lastly, the other artists on the tour were excellent. Negative Gemini was new to me, but I'd definitely see her again. Bought a tape and T-shirt from her immediately.
(And speaking of merch, I did NOT see that death metal Clanton shirt after the show and maybe I'm blind but I would have bought that shit immediately.)
If you can, go see this dude.
I couldn't ask for a more spicy name.
Vaporwave get me into happy people music. I used to listen to post-hardcore and metal-core exclusively. But when I heard that vaportrap I was like bruh sound effect #2. Now I listen to a lot of lowfi house, idm, etc
Nice.
George sounds like Theo von‘s skater nephew
HOLY SHIT

He straight up threatened Anthony. I mean look at Anthony’s face. God forbid he gives him a not good.

Edit: wait no fuck it just finished the interview
George is by far my favorite artist to find in 2018
Love the Seal beanie he’s rocking. Almost didn’t even recognize it At first. I was just listening to Slide the other day and I thought man for some reason seals first album keeps popping up in my head while I’m listening to this. Keep it up George we love the tunes man.
Interview “Dubstep Kurt Cobain” Space Laces next
I want to see "Lo-Fi Michael Jackson", Dorito Jones!
I feel like Anthony hates dubstep lel
Allen Blaise yeah I don’t think he takes it very seriously. And I kinda get where he’s coming from. But he’s seriously missing out on some incredible music. Like Moody Good who makes some really wild and experimental Dubstep and also produced Björk’s album Biophilia.
@@dawsonhicks5929 Yeah imo theres not a big gap between the "pros" and half the underground scene, and on top of that its a heavily over saturated scene. I could see it being hard to review seriously
Are these actual artists, or are we just making them up?
yeah.......I think I just found my new favorite artist/person.
I'm obsessed.....and I only found out he even existed maybe 3 hours ago.
I'm so happy he exists. I love music....

The last sorta 20-30 mins of this is so wholesome, it comes off like a fun conversation between best friends. Amazing interview overall!
an interrogation with George Clanton
Hey George, ''Slide'' is fantastic, feel very proud of it
“Vaporwave David Bowie” is a cursed phrase tbh
it's just funny lol
its not cursed its blessed.
it doesn't even make sense cause he pretty much invented vaporwave with Eno on the track Art Decade
@@da-p6814 ahhh, wow...nah man, sounds of vaporwave existed before vaporwave (the genre is sample based either way any how) but nah man, the inventor of vaporwave was either the dude who made EccoJams2k, Macintosh Plus, or this unknown internet artist: ua-cam.com/video/-RFunvF0mDw/v-deo.html ...
mega cursed
This is awesome! sooo glad to see George getting some melon love. The best interview I never knew i needed. Yall made my night.
I met george' s parents and his younger brother. He was doing a show with Beach Fossils and my girlfriend started talking to this old dude that was up at the front by the stage and she comes back to me and was like "i just met dad!" And i was like "wtf are you talking about you crazy b*tch" then she explained and i went and talked to them as well. Super nice people. At one point George started crowd surfing and his younger brother was absolutely GEEKING. So wonderful to see him just enamored with what his older brother had accomplished.
i dont have a younger brother and my parents have never been to one of my shows
The vaporwave David Bowie. George Clanton!!!!! Saw him live in Seattle. AMAZING!!!
Great interview! thanks for doing this Fantano. Great stuff, love it.
25:50 Thats the magic of vaporwave IMO. You are nostalgic for a time that you think existed but in reality it never really did, it just seemed like it did. It also applies to those who are nostalgic for this time but werent even alive to experience it.
This man’s music has so much life in it. Thank u George for being my favorite find of 2020 ♥️
AH i have to sleep its so late and my internet is garbage but this is so sick, can't wait to eat this interview up. its 3 am and i'm only 10 minutes in! Its cool to see Mr Clanton in the flesh, seems like a super chill dude. Ty Anthony Mantono!!
George Clanton and Idles were my top two favorite finds of 2018 and I have you to thank for them Slavthony Dadtano
Thank you soo much for making this happen georthany clantano!!!
george is melons new therapist i guess
This is melons boyfriend
Good interview. I appreciate what George is trying to do. Dude is making art, not just music. Super creative. The nostalgia part of vaporwave is complex. It was a time that did in fact exist. Some of us lived through the 80s and 90s, getting to see the culture in real time. Of course how we saw the future back then didn't play out exactly. Looking back, we are nostalgic for a time that did exist, but not how we perceived it in our youth. It's trippy for sure. Glad that I found vaporwave and then George.
our perceptions were real brotha. It was truly an amazing time.
Makes me wish the needle drop podcast was still a thing
I love this guy. Makes the best vaporwave mixes to date
Slide makes me feel like I didn’t miss the 90s and also very happy and euphoric
Love George clantons music thanks for the interview !!
George is incredible. Some of the best vaporwave music ever and his non-vaporwave stuff is so good too.
I love these long form interviews.
I found Slide last year on spotify recommendations and it became my all time favorite album. Idk how tf that happened but it did and i love this man.
love george, thanks for the interview melon
Slav interviews Vaporwave David Bowie
This is dope, 2 of favorite guys on the internet, both just talking with each other, having some philosophical moments
Awesome interview! "A lot of artists were coming original back in the 90s" hell yeah my man! 311 rocks! So nice you collaborated with Nick 😃
Wow. To me this is a piece of music history, right here.
Clanton to me is one of the most talented people out there making awesome stuff, i listen to many things, but i always end up to listen to Clanton and his Esprit stuff.
I loved what both said about vaporwave, and i totally agree.
Damn, this was awesome!
It makes me nervous that you are sitting beside each other instead of across from each other
you should listen to some vaporwave and chill out
i see George Clanton i clicked like. simple.
Excited when I spotted the interview, happy after I saw it - respect!!! (Fantano looks like most of my naighboors btw - I'm from the projects in Bulgaria - LOL!!!)
I love George, this is a good interview
Thank you for showing me this great artist
Great interview
damn, no wonder why i enjoy George's music so much... we share the same work ethics.
nice video.
bless this interview
32:00 Vaporwave on its face concerns itself with stuff that guys George's age had on their minds in adolescence, and so the music summons a certain type of nostalgia associated with those things - like a faded Pepsi can left out in the sun at the beach, and radio ads etc. I wonder how people from a generation before and after feel about the aesthetic of Vaporwave (both the sound and visuals) considering their perspective on the source material was different.
I've had his album on loop for the past couple of days, and then this? Fuck, melon. I love you.
George is a cool guy and I'm digging his music. Good job George.
im glad u guys went off topic. if you're reading this george i love u111111111
Melon went full slav
When George sings ‘It Makes the Babies Want to Cry’ he is singing about the red flannel
had no idea he was 31. i thought he was like 26 mayb
I'm 31 and I figured he was 36, lol.
i'm 27 and thought he was 26
i'm 24 hi
I am 29 and thought i was 23
i thought i was 26 but he is 31
Hell yeah! Been waiting for this, such a fantastic crossover. Love everything that George makes ❤️
Hey, I like you a lot Ant Knee but I would appreciate it if you modified your interview style when interviewing someone a bit more introverted like mister Clanton. There are many moments in this where I wish you had asked a question and then said nothing so that he could just ramble and say whatever he wanted without you leading him. You're great though. Just love seeing where people's brains go on their own...
I was thinking this the whole time but didn't think anyone agreed
Interview and a great song ah yeah
35:09 vaporwave david bowie faces off against the meme melon

Commenting on the convo 29 mins in:
The way I see vaporwave and what has me hooked is, Even tho vaporwave is based from the past, it’s opened a MAJOR door when it comes to electronic music as a whole. Yes, most vaporwave has a smooth jazz feel but, now days, there’s tons a different styles of it and it’s only gonna grow even more. The future we were promised didn happen so, we’re making it happen. After a while, it’s not gonna have to be based on nostalgia or having to lived those times to get it, it’s always gonna make sense to any age and future cuz it’s actually good music.
He so chill here but dude go's crazy on stage! I saw him a few years ago in Atlanta with another 100% electronica artist Common Blood. It was a really cool show!
Alright Tony, put your ego down for a minute and let the artist speak his mind
12:00 George literally said at the beginning of the interview that naming his album and record label the same thing helps him sell more t-shirts. Take a hint, Anthony. George is a good ol’ American boy.
13 minutes in, Goerge seems like the Mac Demarco of Vaporwave (layed back yet slightly provocative sense of humour, calm and down to earth, his voice)
Dude, you keep popping up in my feed. I have watched some reviews. Some I agreed with and some I did not. Your review of slide was double bladed. I am new to George, so I was interested. I agreed with your review, but when I saw that you were doing an interview, I was curious, because some artist cannot handle cries. This interview was great. I was skeptical at first, but it beeped me interested. I will subcribe now. Also, You mostly pop up because of metal and punk reviews. I listen to a lot of different kinds of music, so I am hoping that by subscribing, a broad range of genres are forth coming. Bravo on this. loved it. Great chemistry. There is no bad music. There is just music you are not into. Peace
"Vaporwave David Bowie" lmao wtf.
George we love u
Georgany Clantano!!!!!!!!!
Really love both of your guys work! Been a fan of George's for years. However as a peice of critisism Anthony I wish next time you'd let George talk a bit more before following up with another question. Felt like he didnt get enough time to answer sometimes. That may be due to time restraint idk. But I'm glad george is getting the recognition he deserves.
It also seemed like Georges mind was wondering a lot. I think Anthony did a good job at guiding him a long and not making things too uncomfortable. Also as some one with social anxiety it defo seems like Clanton has it. Makes me appreciate him more as an artist and a performer.
@@Revealingstorm. No. Anthony definitely talked all over him before he could even expound on his answers. It was quite noticeable.
Saw him on this tour and he was handling everything, including merch… such a great attitude and energy (might have been the drugs)
Anthony is actually such an underrated interviewer. He is great at leading on the conversation and keeping George flowing. Good job Melon
