Honestly I don’t see the US winning gold this time. Simone will win the individual events but they qualified second and they aren’t solid at all. Myk however was. If it wasn’t for the 2 person per country rule she’d be in the all around
You can’t just go based off of the qualifiers. The US has been way more solid than any team all year long. Go back glance over the other countries and their domestic competitions! Truth be told, Russia did alright in the qualifiers, but that’s all. The US had an off day, and it speaks volumes that their score was in the vicinity of Russia’s. At their best, they can beat the runner up by 2-3 points. If they hit their routines, they’ll be okay!
Myk made mistakes and she didn't make the cut. Jade was awesome and did. I agree we do not have an overall strong chance of winning team gold, but not having Myk won't make a difference. What's not fair is that Simone has to carry so much for the team. They should all be better.

I saw Suni Lee posted after she confirmed qualified to the final round that she is ‘officially’ an Olympian. I thought everyone qualify to come to Tokyo is an Olympian. Who know what it is?
I love Myk! So proud of her!!!! But even the way she says she wanted to be able to say she’s an Olympian. She should rephrase that…it’s sad to be so fixated on what other people think. Her goal was to be an Olympian ✔️ not to be able to tell people she’s an Olympian. Social media is superficial and I hate the pressure it puts on our younger generation.
She should be very proud of herself! She came very far where Morgan was heavily expected to make the team being a former world champion. Mykayla defied all odds at got top 5. She’s an Olympian and that’s even better than being a medalist.
Yes. Have followed her whole journey. I wouldn’t be any more proud if she had 10 medals around her neck. She held it together and killed it while losing her dream of a medal. They were a mess with guaranteed medals. That’s incredibly inspiring and impressive.
I have been watching her training videos and she worked so hard to get to this journey. I feel so bad for her. I don’t get it- she was qualified to be in the Olympic represented team USA and now disqualified again??? What’s going on?

Well. Next olympics are coming in three years from now, not four as usual. MyKayla could definitely take advantage of this short-period-preparation to make a comeback for the 2024 olympics as gabby and Aly did. This three - year-period-preparation is a once in a lifetime opportunity every gymnast should take advantage of
Gymnast typically retire quite early. Only a few are able to make it past that early mid-twenties or even mid. @@hannahwalmer1124 True, it isn’t, but Myk is 24 now, and it would be a different story if she was in perfect health. However, she’s been having ankle problems and I think Simone as well. I think another three years of training for either girl would completely ruin the sport for them- since they’ve been doing it non stop since they both started. If they’re gonna come back to gymnastics at all, I think a break would be good for them- let them truly think about if that’s the best idea.
MyKayla Skinner didn’t just become an Olympian, that girl performed really well at the Olympics! She hit EVERY event and did every routine she went there for! So proud of her and excited to have followed her journey !!
I'm here just wondering if a part of the mental struggle of Simone Biles is partially because MyKayla wasn't selected. I know it will not be the only thing in her head but seeing Simone posting pictures with MyKayla and MyKayla talking about Simone they seem to be really good friends that truly care for eachother and support eachother. So if you're struggling mentally it's very valuable to have someone like that by your side. So sad that they couldn't perform together. Although the selected team is amazing to offcourse
You aren't just an olympian Mykayla, you are the #4 vault at olympic quals and #11 in Olympic all around. How epic is that!?! Its sad that the 2 per country rule disqualified you from vault finals!
There is an Olympic rule that only 2 gymnasts per country can compete in finals. So Simone and Jade who qualified at #1 and #2 get to go to finals and Mykayla doesn’t 😫The same rule was in favor for Simone on bars where there were about 4 or 5 Russian gymnasts who got in the top 8 but only the 2 with the highest scores could compete so that allowed Simone to go to the finals even though she was # 9
@@nyssaramirez3715 I guess where I’m confused is I thought the individual competition had specialists that don’t compete on the team. Can any one of the US gymnasts go for the gold in those specialist spots?
The specialists ( Jade and Mykayla) were allowed to see if they could qualify for any individual medal. They only couldnt compete in the team final. But, because they are from the same country, only the top 2 scorers from each country can compete for a medal. That’s why Mykayla was inched out of vault finals. Jade and Simone got higher scores than her. Hope that makes sense! If there was no 2 per country rule Mykayla would be doing vault final and indivodual all around final.
Maybe she shouldn't have badmouthed Marta Karolyi, who still wields much influence, in a widely watched documentary about what it takes to get to the Olympics in gymnastics. Although the team was chosen for logical reasons in any regard. And hindsight of course isn't a part of that.
She lacks humility, is cocky and not the strongest gymnast (compared to her peers). She is very talented but you have to accept there are better gymnasts than her.
@@veronikabauer1853 she was but that stupid only 2 per country rule knocked her out of the competition. She was only there to compete individual not team and a few of her teammates got better scores. But she did amazing
Life goes on. I feel bad for her but... That's the chance you take when you shoot for the brass ring. I hope she can shift focus to the rest of her life now. Sigh. This is what I hate about the Olympics is how it sucks for some people.
I feel bad for these ladies, with the pandemic and a team member positive for the virus...proud of them for going forward in spite of it all. Just to make the team, and get to their destination, with all the complications, has to be honored.
Yes yhe changed everthing from wardrobe to bathing cap to hold our hair as we compete. Talk about tying hands to gain an edge. They scared. Even have changed men competing against black womrn. Why do the LGBTQs have their own category to compete against men and women.why only challenge black women or white women. If they dont take the harmones during training their male testoterone takes over. Isn't that CHEATING?
Can’t believe or understand how or why she or Jade didn’t get to represent USA in a team final, their floor and vault would have made the difference in qualifying avoiding them to finish on 2nd place. But the logic behind the decisions for team USA always a question isn’t it.
Regarding jade….the public were bashing her and she was discouraged from competing all around at trials and attempting to make the four man team…basically she was bullied into accepting the World Cup-qualified individual position and to give up a shot at the team
If you’re meaning for the Olympics its because they were competing under individual, they weren’t on the team!! So they only got to compete if they qualified!!
@@Chels-fz5uq Jade Carey was my choice for the 4th spot. Given what we faced, with Simone dropping out, and given that everyone was saying that we needed someone with vault and floor high scores (not necessarily all around) then Jade was the right person for the fourth spot. And, look who qualified for both floor and vault! She was totally bullied online for considering Tom's option to try out for the team. People can be so ugly.
Aren't you glad you stayed? You were in place when Simone withdrew and gave you your opening to vault event final. Congratulations on your silver medal. Your real final competitive effort was so well done.
I felt so bad for her but she did great and we know she did her best. I dont agree with the 2 person per event rule and they should have had 5 people instead of 4 like usual.
It was, ironically, petitioned by the Americans. I think in the 2000 Olympics, the Romanian team dominated the podium and the Americans felt it was unfair. Definitely stupid rule, the best should compete against the best, that’s what the Olympics are for. But, it’s ironic that Americans wanted this rule in the first place.
@@reversethatvideo8813 actually the Americans were not the first or only country that advocated for this rule change. I believe all competing countries took a vote many years before 2000 due to podium domination by several different countries. The majority voted for the 2 per country rule, and it’s been implemented ever since. Makes no sense to keep the rule with the new distinction between team and individual competitors though. Even if they want the two per country rule to stay in place, it should not apply to individual competitors during qualifications to keep things the most fair they can be. Feel terrible for Myk. Loved her performance, it’s a shame she was basically set up to fail by USAG.
@@reversethatvideo8813 No actually, Americans did not put forward the rule change and weren’t one of the first to publicly support it. They just voted to implement said rule change along with many other countries. Common misconception though! Still ironic they voted for it, but my issue isn’t really with that rule in particular because I do understand it. My issue is how it’s applied to individual athletes. Having the rule implemented during qualifications too (and not just the event finals for who can medal) specifically for athletes competing as individuals makes no sense to me. It doesn’t allow these athletes competing as individuals to really get a full chance to compete at the olympics if they qualify for certain finals and then get two-per-countried because they only get to participate in qualifying (upsetting because even those that don’t qualify for any event finals that are on the team get to actually compete later on regardless). Sucks though, I so wanted to see Myk in the vault final and I really wish her journey would have ended on a better note. She’s a lovely gymnast and has worked hard for it. I feel the same way about several of the Russian gymnasts. It’s a shame they got two-per-countried on so many events.
@@AshleyKarys ??? The rule change occurred in 1976 at the Montreal games. The US was not the first, main, or only push behind the rule change. This was even prior to Russian/Soviet podium domination. Russia was actually a big driving force (at least publicly) behind the rule change, although the majority of the countries competing in the games voted for the rule change. This was something that happened long before the 1996 or 2000 games and the US was not the biggest or first advocate for the rule. You can look up when the two-per-country rule was implemented online and the date should come up along with the articles explaining why it happened and who supported it. It was an attempt to give smaller and less financially wealthy countries a chance to medal and it happened in 1976. It’s a common misconception but please don’t spread false info around if you can help it in the future. The info is easily found online so you can check it out and get the facts :)
@Meghan I get where you’re coming from but honestly I feel like Myk should have made the team over Grace, their score are very similar however Myk can produce a little higher than she can in my opinion. I think the individual spot should have gone to leanna or Kara. Grace is great! But I believe it much more logical not take her at all. And even tim and nastia eluded to it when they named the team. No one ( people that truly understand the sport and not just fans) realistically thought that she was going to make that team regardless of her being great all round.
@Meghan last thing, it’s not always the placement mean you should take someone. This can be seen when they over looked Myk for Rio and took Madison and Gabby.
@Meghan I keep seeing you post this same thing, but have you considered that if Grace couldn’t make any finals and that she wouldn’t help the team out that much, she just wasn’t qualified to go? It sucks for her but she’s the one who posted all these fabulous upgrades and then did the easiest routines of the season, barely skating by at trials with no hope of making any individual finals. She just shouldn’t have been there altogether.
@@DeepSeas.. I’ve seen quite a few of your comments that I agree with… I personally wanted mykayla on the team (I felt like she had more potential to add to the team total than grace) then I wanted Riley McCusker as the other individual bc she is the USA’s next best bars gymnast after suni at the moment.
@Meghan I agree that we had a lot of deserving people, but the discussion does lot need to be just between grace and mykayla. Imo mykayla would’ve added more points to the team than grace, and Riley McCusker is our next best shot at a bars medal behind suni, so she should’ve been the second individual. So happy for her. I don't know, but it feels like she achieved more than what many expected. Of course a final here or there would have been great, definitely a medal, too. But she had one of the best performances during qualifications. She got to be an Olympian PLUS she and all athletes got to compete in the Olympics after the uncertainty of the whole year. And she hit all her routines and placed among the top girls worldwide which should have taken her to finals if not for the limitations on the number of gymnasts from countries. This proved many people and assumptions about her wrong. And at the end of the day, MyKayla is still one of the best gymnasts out there. That's something clear. Some can say whatever about her, but she's done and achieved a lot more than what her detractors will ever get to do or achieve themselves. So yeah.
loved this interview. so many things were out of her control but she showed so much heart pushing through and doing her best. I loved watching her so much and my heart breaks for her. she’s a fighter for sure.
Maybe if she didn't have her foot problem. But no. The pain she had to endure with her shockwave therapy and/or surgery, there's no way she's doing that. She's done with it and I don't blame her. Imagine another 4 years of pain just to have Tom or the next person screw you over yet again.

So you can’t support a team who comes in 2nd? What a fickle fan.
Myk made mistakes and she didn't make the cut. Jade was awesome and did. I agree we do not have an overall strong chance of winning team gold, but not having Myk won't make a difference. What's not fair is that Simone has to carry so much for the team. They should all be better.
I don’t see them winning gold either. And that’s ok. It’s been a hard road for everyone.
@@cindycrewsbeach72 they put so much on that poor woman shoulders.
A few days later Skinner is loading some Silver for the return back home👍👌
So much love for Mykayla!
Watching this, knowing that she has one last chance that she didn't know she'd have when she gave this interview. I'm sad for Simone, but excited for MyKayla.
Aww she us sich a sweethwart and deserves the best😪💕
all i’m saying is, i really hope she makes a comeback at some point !!!
I just love her !
I saw Suni Lee posted after she confirmed qualified to the final round that she is ‘officially’ an Olympian.
I thought everyone qualify to come to Tokyo is an Olympian. Who know what it is?
Now she got silver in vault 🤎
That’s incredibly inspiring and impressive.
feel so bad for her, I thought she was in
I have been watching her training videos and she worked so hard to get to this journey. I feel so bad for her. I don’t get it- she was qualified to be in the Olympic represented team USA and now disqualified again??? What’s going on?
I hope the gymnasts get to stay in the Olympic village after they’ve all finished competing. It would be a shame not to stay at least a week there.
I think per covid regs they have to leave within 24-48 hours
I have a question.... If Simone pulls out of the individual event finals, does Mykayla get put in especially since she finished third on vault? Or would the spot go to an alternate?
She automatically goes into vault finals
💓💓
I love her. MyKayla deserved better but she's still such an inspiration inside and outside of gymnastics
I agree!! I really like her. I honestly felt she should've been the fourth spot on the team for this and the previous Olympics.
she definitely should've been on the team rather than grace. the committee played it safe and it didn't pay off in my opinion.
@@madiwake3605 thank you huni amen👏👏👏👏. Great minds think alike and I'm glad you used your logic!!! Grace definitely didn't deserve 4th spot to make team. I'm not sure why MyKayla gets so much haters. There's quite a few people I would've taken over Grace to make team.
@@anitaknight3915 I have to disagree. Grace placed fourth on the olympic trials, so she deserves the spot. In hindsight the strongest team would be with Jade since she is better than MyKayla. But the team was chosen fairly and so was the alternate spot. MyKayla did deserve a spot in the 2016 olympics though. Taking Madison and Gabbie over MyKayla was not fair. Grace is also very cool and collected, which is a great benefit.
@@bluesky8334 you made great points! I agree with you. Hindsight is 2020 of course. It's a tough decision as they are so talented and excellent at different things.
i love how the interviewer didn’t interrupt
Yeah I thought he was so nice, and not to be rude by mykayla does go on so I could imagine them possibly running out of time too
Usag set her up to fail. They knew she wouldn’t qualify if Jade and Simone hit. Shame on them. She could’ve contributed to that TEAM.
Exactly
I said this from the beginning. It broke my heart for her.
I felt this too from the beginning. Its too bad.
Not being argumentative but why would they even allow someone to go to the olympics if they knew they weren’t going to medal ??
💯💯💯
I feel like Mykayla was wronged so many times in her career and she always fought back. She showed true grit going into that beam routine. Inspiring!
MyK is a wonderful person and great gymnast!!! I am devastated for her! She was 9th All-Around! The fact that she has the strength & grace to do these interviews shows how mature she is & how much she loves gymnastics! USA gymnastics has not been kind to her! I’m so proud of her! She will forever be an Olympian who finished her career with 4 awesome routines!!! Love You MyK 🙏🏼👱🏼♀️❤️
Jade Carey was 9th in all around, MyKayla was 11th
I predicted she’d end in 10th place AA. I was sooo close
The fact that she can even say she placed 9th all-around at the OLYMPICS where the best of the best compete should be a huge accomplishment for her. I hope she’s a proud olympian right now.
@@kieram.6186 She was 11th, not 9th, but yes she should be so proud, plus both her and Jade outscored Grace and Jordan, the 2 members on the actual team. And she's now our vault silver medalist 💙
so proud of her is has such a good attitude about it love her
Tremendous strength and grace. She is a class act, gotta respect that always
Well he was a fantastic interviewer. So kind and focused on Mykayla. Thoughtful questions. Ugh so proud of how she has handled herself. Heartbroken she didn’t make it to a final.
Wow she’s so positive and confident I love it
I came back here after Mykayla won silver in the vault!!! Im so proud!!!
This was such a great interview! His calming voice and the way he asked questions was just perfect. And Mykayla was great with her answers!!
I definitely hope MyKayla would come back, but your body really does some weird stuff when you do gymnasts for too long. MyKayla does some explaining in her video about being a gymnast for 19 years does to her body, and even her in this video, saying her and Simone’s body are broken.
I would love if she came back, but she'll be 27-28 by the time the next games happen and that's definitely on the older side.
This is already a comeback, she was a 2016 alternate and she was meant to have surgery on her foot so although it would be amazing I wouldn't count on it
Oh no baby. Shes not ever, EVER going to another Olympics. THIS was her comeback run.
This was a great interview!
You were awesome, MyK!
You're right...you are an Olympian and no one can ever take that away from you!
Thank you for representing Our Awesome Country so valiantly!
Great interview. I am very impressed with this gentleman’s interview skills. Very thoughtful questions for an awesome gal that represented our country with class.

@@honeyhernandez91 He deserves a raise, and they should use him more often. Doesn't rush anyone into answering and is someone who actually listens to the answers given
You heard it here folks. MyKayla hasn’t completely removed the possibility of a comeback. I really hope she comes back as a vault specialist for Paris. I feel like that would be less of a mental and physical burden on her body than doing all-around, and she could realistically win a medal.
She has definitely stated that this was it. Several times on several platforms. I think she was being safe here. Lol. I think she and Jonas are going to start their family. But I hope she comes back!
@@jenniferherold3485 Paris is only 3 years away, tho. That's not that long in gymnastics time
@@hannahwalmer1124 True, it isn’t, but Myk is 24 now, and it would be a different story if she was in perfect health.
She Is going to start a family now. That clock is ticking. We know when we have finished something.
@@janetlowden5960 She's 24 not 45. Her clock isn't ticking.
Could you be so kind as to explain to me how it disqualified her. I’m so confused.
I have so much admiration for this woman.
Mykala was robbed. She was treated horribly by the USGA.
@@Condorcet2011 she out scored half the team. Stop.

@@veronikabauer1853 she was but that stupid only 2 per country rule knocked her out of the competition. She was only there to compete individual not team and a few of her teammates got better scores. But she did amazing
@@veronikabauer1853 yeah sorry
They weren't on the team so they could not have competed in those events. Olympic rule.
If Simone, still has the "twisties", Mykayla would be able to do the vault final. It would be awesome to see her in that final.

Simone's care ❤ Simone we are rooting for you
I felt so bad for her but she did great and we know she did her best.
@@annahayden Americans were definitely one of the first or most supported of the petition. But yeah, MyKayla did amazing.
I still think she should have been chosen to be on the team.
Grace is amazing but to me it would’ve made more sense to have her as an alternate this time.
My guess is that Simone will also withdraw from Vault (not the other finals) and MyKayla will have her chance.

So yeah.

Maybe if she didn't have her foot problem. But no. The pain she had to endure with her shockwave therapy and/or surgery, there's no way she's doing that. She's done with it and I don't blame her. Imagine another 4 years of pain just to have Tom or the next person screw you over yet again.
Whos here after they announced that simone withdrew from vault finals and Mykayla is now taking her place. I'm so happy for Mykayla!!! seeing this video her saying her olympics is over, God said SIKE!!! SURPRISE SHAWTY
The conspiratorial part of me wonders if Simone has not, given her situation, chosen to not compete precisely so the other teammates could shine. She's been to one Olympics and won so much. It makes me wonder if this is not a plan.
That's what I think, too!
You’re an Olympian and a silver medalist!
