Still loving this after over 50 years 💋💋💋
Those drum sticks ‘bout to burst into flame.
Dawson's solo is just out of this world. The time he keeps is amazing throughout as he seamlessly brings the group back in.
It's like everyone here are siblings, they know each other intimately
People are imo kinda missing the point here. The real poetry is in Paul Desmonds play. Amazing!
The absolute most classic jazz composition.....EVER!
One of the Top Two songs ever released in jazz history. From one of Top Two albums ever released in Jazz's top year.
Love how Dave takes a time out to enjoy a private concert by Alan Dawson. Dave always enjoyed making quality music and it showed on his face.
As good as this will ever get. RIP and thanks for the memories.
What a super version of Take Five, with a rare full solo of Dave and a super drum solo. tairs
That bit, at about 12 minutes in, when the boss stops what he's doing to watch you, with a big smile on his face. Joe Morello will always be the master but this is awesome.
Damn, that’s some absolutely amazing drumming by Alan Dawson 😲
I thought the same thing! When I was a kid, I would listen to the drum part over and over and over.
The fist time I heard this version of Take Five, I wasn't sure about having two saxophones. By the third time I listened to the performance, I was hooked!
CLASSIC & One of a kind. True musicians !
Outstanding version of truly monumental piece...........................
I was there, first time Brubeck played after taking time off to compose Cantada/....riot broke out involving those outside the park, 1 person died, the gang attacked the stage as Bruebeck played, Alan Dawson came on my radio program to discuss what it was like from his vantage point, and me from mine...we were both scared out of our minds...Thanks of posting and keeping the memory alive
Oh my word WHAT!? I’m sitting here on a Wednesday in sf laughing, I could never see this happening in 2024… what a story that must be
while in high school in the early 70's i went to a friends house after school.
music was raging out of his basement. we went to check it out and there was this band
practicing for the newport jazz festival in rhode island... my friend was alan dawson jr.
exposure to this band up close and personal changed my appreciation for music for life.
Those were the days of great sax work not the squealing the present day sax men do
Don't forget that this awesome drumsolo is performed...50 years ago.. :)
Who needs a big drum kit? Man that is the essence of syncopation right there
Marvelous..... to cheer up a depressing Sunday morning in midtown Manhattan...... thank you. Miss Jenny
Timeless insurmountable. Incredible 😊
Wow! I've listed to 100's of versions of this, but this one is breath taking, the best yet. How come I haven't heard this until now?!?!
Lately, I’ve been starting my day with Take Five. Great day from here!!
That was amazing. That drum solo was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!!
MrAschiff, indeed not even in the whole universe you will hear such a great drum solo. 🙂But I hope you also have listened to Tito Puente's live version (also on UA-cam).
very very good.............................................................................
Nice. Thanks. I was lucky to study with Alan.
Voilà un solo de batterie et te voilà hors du temps, oui nous sommes bien dans les années 70's , les pattes d'Eff et les percutions, " il y avait de l'eau dans le gaz, le Jazz et la Java"..Salut à vous tous.
Wow what a version first time i've heard this. Dave looks great grinning from ear to ear during the drum solo.
Five Musical Geniuses Taken By Storm of well... TAKE FIVE!!! The Five are taken...by music! Fantastic how after the Wonderful Solos of Desmond and Mulligan Great Dave is on fire! And then it is up to Dave to set drummer and bassist on fire as well! Sixteen minutes of Jazz Beauty fo Musical Eternity! Loved it!
Jazz, and simply music, at its very best!!
Fabulous version of take 5. Note that the chorus of Paul is in C Major (for alto sax) and the harmony is in C minor.
Great performances by all.
Gerry Mulligan....Mr Clinton's friend. He also played with the great Astor Piazzolla. Awesome.
Fantastic edition. Thanks for sharing joy.
Simply brilliant, music as music should be played by some of the very best.
Wow....fantastic drumming, and these acrylic drums sound amazing!
What an peformance by the drummer.. so awesome! love it
Alan Dawson master musician and drummer . His creative taste , technique and fluidity is a class of its own. Great great drummer. Do not compare drummers too much and who is best , Dawson is the very top and totally inspiring. Who is better Rembrandt, Picasso , Goya , Velasquez, Van Gogh, Manet ? Limit it ,respect , enjoy and assess them in their own right.Must have been fantastic experience studying with Alan Dawson, his book is also excellent.
don't forget Master Joe Morello..the original drummer and founder of this song ;)
It’s difficult to say “best” when it applies here. “Best” is subjective, a percussionist may not have the highest skill set, but maybe his style just hits a person in the right spot.
I think Paul Desmond and Dave B are the best, I’m sure that there are some fair and logical arguments to say otherwise. I love what Allen does here though, the whole vibe makes me jealous that I wasn’t there!
Wenn ich einen schlechten Tag hatte, diesen Song, und alles ist wieder gut. Danke Dave.
❤une musique de ma jeunesse donc je me lasse pas 😂😂😂
Barry if you see this, excellent job with syncing the higher quality audio. It was well worth the effort, and I'm grateful.
That drummer is smooooooooooooooth...!
Best performance by all
Gold✨!! Thank you!! ❤️💖💕❤️
Take Five...such fun to listen to 5/4 beat. Paul Desmond's tone is fantastic...love this tune!
Whenever i think i went through all great renditions of this masterpiece - a new one pops up - what an amazing performance! Thanks for sharing. :-)
I know im randomly asking but does someone know of a trick to log back into an instagram account?
I stupidly lost my account password. I love any help you can give me!
@Watson Gael i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im in the hacking process atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Watson Gael It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much you really help me out !
Awesome drum solo ... one that enters the memory .... the Dawson solo in Germany with Dave.
Beautiful constellation=beautiful music. Original players! terrific it exists.
love the sound, the movement, the air
La migliore versione di take 5 in assoluto, grandi
Masterpiece, no other words.
Updated for the groovy '70s...
Alan Dawson doing what a drummer is supposed to do. Laying a solid foundation for the WHOLE BAND to build on, and then when is his turn, he lays out a masterful solo! And then.... back to the foundational groove! THAT'S THE WAY ITS DONE BOYS AND GIRLS!
I liked this song already, now I love it, thanks to you Barry (I dont know what i love the best, Dave's pants or his face during the drummer's solo☝️)
A forever classic.
i love this kind of music, bossa nova ,too. it just makes me so peaceful and happy . great job Barry
Wow, this is fantastic, that you synced the audio/video… looks and sounds wonderful
Beautiful performance, both by the quintet and yourself. Many thanks!
I remember seeing the DBQ once when Dave said: "we thought we'd try it with a clarinet." It was well after Paul's departure, the sax parts were being done by a guy on clarinet. Different. Excellent sound. I've seen the quartet a dozen times, they are always right on top of it.
Best performance ever!!
i love this version the most
Desmond's solo was smoother than silk, and oh so delightful to hear!
Gerry Mulligan- Smooth as a gravy sandwich!
Dude, you did an amazing job. Congratulations and many thanks...
yes,,,what a masterpiece.... !
first time hearing it.amazeing. beautiful.
JUST LIKE HEAVEN - JAZZ ´S LOVER HEAVEN, spectacular video thank!!!
Thank you for uploading
There is another live stream of this tune on youtube, called " The Last Set at Newport " even more powerfully,
you may like it too ! ENJOY
best version ever!
Paul Desmond and Dave Brubeck were the soloists from the original 1958 recording.
Great jazz
Un chef d'oeuvre indémodable depuis 1959.
I thought no one could fill the drum throne left by Joe Morello.... but then again
the wonderful Alan Dawson
This is my grandfather's music. Much better than today's music. But as my aunt Rosie says, you can't turn the Clock backwards.
Amazing 😜 ✌️ 👍
Beautiful. Thank you so much
los mejores delos mejores en esta grupo de excepción ,BRUBECK y DESMOND ,me gusta por el baterista joe morello., un 10 distinguido.
WOW!
Man, thart was fun.
Jazz Heaven! Thanks for making the effort.
omg so good!
Que maravilha !!!!!! Divinal.
He looked younger the older he got.
Good music is like good sex - if you're not working up a sweat, then you're not in the groove.
You know what i think. I think.. the drummer is joking the team at 13:11 with faking to come back and the rest rejoins. The base player is grabing his bas but than the drummer takes his moment again and you see Dave Brubeck enjoying the moment. My take on this they had some fun with that. :D
Great
impro en mode majeur, par le compositeur lui même.
And God give us some stars...
Insane.
thank you.
well done. good band too.
What do you all think about the difference between "having a preference" - say, for a drummer's performance - versus "one is better than the other"? I love Joe Morello, but damn if there ain't some masterful drumming on this, especially starting at about 8:30! And what about at 10:30 and 11:19, etc.?? That's insanely good drumming. So, of course, it's "not the same" as Joe Morello's take, and you might like his better but COME ON, saying it's better is ridiculous (not that I'm saying Dawson's is better, which is my point). They're different. Enjoy them both. That's the beauty of improvised performances by wonderful musicians. Anyway...leaving my soap box now :-)
I think I have heard 3 or 4 different versions of this by the same group......All very good,, except Joe is missing from this one. thanks for the post
Excelente Mr. Alan Dawson the best in drums.
Desmond would pass away one year later.
look at those faces, these guys arent just having the time of their lives, it’s more like time doesn’t even exist
