thank you so much for this tutorial, i forgot the screws position when it came to reassemble, i can't believe it, you show it so well that i could put it over properly.
Correct. NVMe will not work, no matter of the brand. You need NGFF (this is the connector type for SATA 3 protocol, just to let you know) :) The 2280 number is the m.2 module size number. But NVME m.2 SSD is also can numbered as 2280!!!! When you looking for m.2 module be sure it is mentioned in the product name NGFF or SATA and you are good to go with that! :D Or just check the links in the video description and copy out of those modules product number.

Quick question regarding ram. my laptop currently has 8 gb (1 stick of 4 gb stick and 4 gb soldered). I was wondering can I use 8 gb or 16 gb stick to upgrade? Cheers.
Ehm no. First you have to check how much RAM you got onto your motherboard (integrated memory). In this model it is 4GB or 8GB. Since you have 1 SO-DIMM slot (the one you can swap and upgrade, shown in this video), currently the largest module available on the market is 32GB you can go 36GB (4+32) or 40GB (8+32) as a maximum. Hi, thx for the vídeo. My laptop has 4 GB ram, so, what do u recommend? Add 8GB for a 12 GB total, or add 4 GB for a total of 8 GB and activate dual channel? Thank You very much.
My version of S14(S430UN-EB020T) comes with 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD on board storage. Does that mean it don't have extra slot for storage upgrade? Do I need to swap with the existing SSD or HDD slot?
You have one SODIMM slot for a memory upgrade and your internal module will stay permanently, so your options are: 4+4 // 4+8 // 4+16 // 4+32 ;) 16 GB is mathematically not possible.
@@MakaiTechReviews oh thanks, i 've opened my laptop, just one slot for upgrading RAM. My laptop hv 4GB internal and adding 8GB (total 12GB). I want to 4+16GB but 16GB so expensive and i think my laptop will be bottleneck if if hv 20GB of RAM. So, 12 is the best now.
Bro, i had this laptop. I bought USB Type-C to 4 ports dongle (USB-A, HDMI, DVI, and VGA), but when i tested to connect my old VGA / DVI monitor, Windows showed up notification "Display connection might be limited *or so".. is it this Type-C does'nt support Display mode..?
You have to check what icon is next to the USB-C port. You have like 4-5 options. No icon, means only DATA (so pendrive/mouse etc is supported), if there is a number "10" means USB is capable of 10Gigabit speed, so faster file transfer if you have any external SSD for example. If there is a sign of a small "D P" icon (i.stack.imgur.com/0rgU3.png) means it is capable of display output. If it has a lightning icon, it means Thunderbolt "or" higher voltage output for fast charging. This last one is kinda hard to mistake which is which. Yours might be only capable for data transfer but no display output.

Hi i want to ask I just bought asus vivobook s14 s430 so and i have 512 gb ssd for the storage and if i want to input hdd i need hdd brackets? Sorry for my english.
Well is it m.2 ssd you have or 2,5 inch? The best way to find out is to open up cause no software will tell you if you have the bracket or not. :) Usually there is no bracket when you buy it with m.2 SSD.
Well, will try to make a video about it but definitely take some time. I have so much more tasks and reviews in line to finish.. :S I have a link in the video description, the bracket itself is kinda self-explanatory anyway. You simply slide the HDD into the bracket, screw in and just place into the machine with the 2 rubbery bumper which holds the bracket itself with the flex cable already plugged into the HDD. After you place it in the machine, just connect it to the motherboard and you are good to go.
I put in a very old 2.5 inch sata 1 hdd and it works just fine but the lid isn’t closing properly. (My laptop already had the frame i just had to fit in the hdd.) Will newer hdd’s properly fit? My laptop is asus vivobook s14 s410un
Can you send the HDD type? If you download "HWInfo" you can read out easily the components - or inside Windows built in device manager, but that can be tricky for some - I assume the HDD is 9.5mm height. Vivobook S14 can accept "only" 7mm drives.

Hi! I want to ask about the storage at this S14. I get this S14 with a 512GB SSD, and when I open this S14 I see there is an empty slot for 2.5 inch SSD or HDD. Can I add a 2.5 inch SATA SSD in it? Thank you very much, have a nice day!
@@MakaiTechReviews so do you say it's better install SSD on M2 slot before a Intel Optane Memory with a SSD? 🤔 Obviously that's considered to your opinion If is that, maybe I'll take your opinion and only upgrade my RAM memory
Optane is meant to speed up your slow HDD, so you better go with a 2.5" SSD and an m.2 SSD in both slots, or one m.2 SSD for OP system and programs, and HDD for document storage. With Optane you basically lose one slot, and the benefit for extra storage space.
S430 has one so-dimm slot for upgrade so currently the maximum you can go is 16GB with a stick. But im pretty sure if 32GB modules will available you can go even further.

I cannot confirm, that it will work or not, the feedbacks are quite mixed. The time I recorded this it only supported SATA m.2 SSDs (as it show in this video), but it seems for some NVMe does work. Anyway as for performance I guess you will not notice any significant speed bump. I rather use the m.2 SSD for operating system drive and add a secondary 2.5inch SATA SSD to the 2.5 inch bay for storage expansion.
Well if you already have the device and don't want to open it up, then check in Device Manager->Disk drives and Google up the product number of the drive you have.
No, internally these 2 looks very different. X412 inside: www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/_processed_/d/7/csm_Asus_Vivobook_14_X412FJ_Innereien_a1ada181af.jpg But in terms of upgrade options, they are pretty much identical. (m.2 is only SATA3)
Bro, I have the Vivobook S14 S430FN, the customer care said there is single slot for ram, if i have to upgrade to 16GB, I'll have to replace 8GB. Can you please tell me if there are 2 slots for RAM or single slot.
1 "slot" is soldered onto the motherboard, and got 1 slot for future expansion. The problem is if your model have a 4Gb soldered onto the motherboard and 4Gb as a stick right now. In that case your maximum you can go will be 8+4->12. My advise is just to pop off the bottom cover and check for yourself. ;)
Bro, In the Task Manager > Performance > Memory, it says slots used 2 of 4, Does it mean there are 4 slots for the ram and if I put 8GB ram in each of the slots it will be total of 24GB, Will it support?

I bought a very similar X412, the back plate is exactly the same and the screws are at the same places, however the said backplate doesn't want to move in the middle like something is sticking. Do you kow if there's something else to be aware of ? Thank you !
There is usually a plastic "hook" but it is meant only to pop the backplate. You need a decent force pilling the back cover off. I usually start from the back and open it to the front. (Holding the machine as in this video - front-facing to me)
Hello. In order to put a stick ram memory it is necessary take off the battery?
I usually advise to plug off the battery, so you can avoid any damage if you accidentally short something.
can i upgrade processor or it is soldered in motherboard?
No, you can't. Most notebooks have no upgradeable CPU. (only a few very high-end desktop replacement notebooks have this option)
Can i buy a Kingston ValueRAM 16GB 2400Mhz DDR4 on my S430 laptop?
Hello, could you please explain why PCIE SSD will not work here? Thanks
The unit I tested simpl did not recognized, however many others are reported that 14 and 15 models can use it. I do belive it was only my test unit which had this feature off.
Can i install NVMe SSD on this laptop?
Hi, thx for the vídeo. My laptop has 4 GB ram, so, what do u recommend? Add 8GB for a 12 GB total, or add 4 GB for a total of 8 GB and activate dual channel?
Thank You very much.
What did you finally choose? I'm in the same situation 😅
I recommend using same size ram
Thank you, very informative
Is it possible to add an HDD instead of an SSD in the 2.5" slot? (Using the same brackets you shared)
Sure you can.
My version of S14(S430UN-EB020T) comes with 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD on board storage. Does that mean it don't have extra slot for storage upgrade? Do I need to swap with the existing SSD or HDD slot?
Yes, all 2 slots are already occupied.
@@MakaiTechReviews Thanks for the info. Gonna swap the HDD with a SSD.😀😀
Good good. 😁
What is the maximum ram capacity of Asus S14(s430un-eb020T). Appreciate your response.

Do you know if x420ua-bv083t model accept more than 4GB RAM?. Thanks
Sure. 4GB seems to me the soldered module, so you might have an additional free slot for an upgrade!
I have i5 (256 ssd + 1 tb) variant. Does it have extra slot of ssd or I will have to change inbuilt ssd to increase storage??
Well in that case, both of your storage slots are occupied. You have to remove the 256GB SSD (m.2), and replace it with a bigger one.
@@MakaiTechReviews Okay, Thank you!!!
Is it possible to remove the screen? I need mine replaced
Hi, my s430ua-eb003t with 4GB onboard, can i upgrade to 16GB?
@@MakaiTechReviews yeah that's solved the problem, yesterday night i found from asus website just like what you said, bad news is, this laptop USB type C 3.1 Gen1 doesn't have "D" symbol on it T_T

hey, I've got the ASUS VivoBook X420FA-EK058T. I want to upgrade the RAM but I do not know if its possible, since there are some models with onboard ram only. Do you know if I can upgrade it?

I've installed a sata hdd but now my laptop won't power on. The power button flashes but it won't turn on at all. I've removed it and it boots normally but I want to boot this hard drive. What do I do?
This is kinda odd behavior. Can you please provide more information about the drive and the current system you are using? Maybe the flex cable damaged? Did you properly attach the flex cable onto the motherboard? Right now I am just guessing, need more info... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Newbie question: this means I can have a 2.5 SSD + another SSD in the 2280 slot, is it?
Yes, that is correct.

Hi, I've tried your links for wifi cards but cannot find a WIFI 6 card available to buy. (I Have an Asus S430UA) I'd like to upgrade the existing wifi card to wifi 6. Do you have the ref in order to do that? thank you
Search for AX200 those are Wifi6 cards.
Hmm AX200 links are fine for me I linked.

can i simply install new 8gb ra ddr4 2400mhz? will this void warranty thanks
Warranty is depends on where you live. Here, you can upgrade freerly, but if you have to service, you need to provide the original parts. As for the memory, please check my other answer. It is depends on your model.
Can i replace intel optane to ssd m.2 ?
Hey there! Could you make a video of upgrading of the ssd and m.2 ssd? Liked and subbed for dismantlement and descriptive content!
Will make one. 😉
Hi i want to ask
I just bought asus vivobook s14 s430 so and i have 512 gb ssd for the storage and if i want to input hdd i need hdd brackets? Sorry for my english.
Well is it m.2 ssd you have or 2,5 inch? The best way to find out is to open up cause no software will tell you if you have the bracket or not. :) Usually there is no bracket when you buy it with m.2 SSD.
@@MakaiTechReviews i already open and i found that the hdd is empty and m.2 already filled do you have videos bout how to use bracket??
Well, will try to make a video about it but definitely take some time. I have so much more tasks and reviews in line to finish.. :S I have a link in the video description, the bracket itself is kinda self-explanatory anyway. You simply slide the HDD into the bracket, screw in and just place into the machine with the 2 rubbery bumper which holds the bracket itself with the flex cable already plugged into the HDD. After you place it in the machine, just connect it to the motherboard and you are good to go.

Can you send the HDD type? If you download "HWInfo" you can read out easily the components - or inside Windows built in device manager, but that can be tricky for some - I assume the HDD is 9.5mm height. Vivobook S14 can accept "only" 7mm drives.
can i improve the ram of my asus vivobook 14 x420u model intel pentium gold ?? please bro
Yes, basically you have 1 RAM so-dimm slot. Either swap the current module (if you have one), or add an additional memory module.

Hi!
I want to ask about the storage at this S14. I get this S14 with a 512GB SSD, and when I open this S14 I see there is an empty slot for 2.5 inch SSD or HDD. Can I add a 2.5 inch SATA SSD in it? Thank you very much, have a nice day!
Sure you can. If your does not have the bay and flex cable for it I added a link which will fit for your model.
I have the 512gb ssd version too. Can i add HDD in it? Is the space enough?
I have a question:
Can I install an Intel Optane memory on this laptop? I'm very insterested to upgrade my Asus S14 S430.
Well technically you can add, but honestly, a dedicated SSD would be a better option IMHO.
@@MakaiTechReviews so do you say it's better install SSD on M2 slot before a Intel Optane Memory with a SSD? 🤔 Obviously that's considered to your opinion
If is that, maybe I'll take your opinion and only upgrade my RAM memory
Optane is meant to speed up your slow HDD, so you better go with a 2.5" SSD and an m.2 SSD in both slots, or one m.2 SSD for OP system and programs, and HDD for document storage. With Optane you basically lose one slot, and the benefit for extra storage space.
@@MakaiTechReviews thanks a lot, with your answers now I have a better idea to upgrade my Asus
Glad to help! :D
Hi,
Please confirm what is the maximum RAM capacity for VivoBook S40UN-EB020T. Is is possible for 16GB upgrade?
S40 or s410?
Sorry it's S430UN-EB020T
S430 has one so-dimm slot for upgrade so currently the maximum you can go is 16GB with a stick. But im pretty sure if 32GB modules will available you can go even further.
I'm planning to buy one provided it can be upgraded to 16GB in future. Please check this link and let me know it's possible or not for this one. l.flipkart.com/t/click/H4sIAAAAAAAAAI2QzW6DMBCE38UHTiGQUn6MhFqlIjlUUSv1AdDKNsECY8vYIVLVd-9ClRuHntbe-TQ7mm9yI-VhRxgpiVAgB7IjHt-dc2Yqo2ie5307SNODdXumVWSs5p65yETSKfFiJK_ePi4nWp-_TvXx-H7OPgPvVDNpb5moEFc68FXM26KIizykcd6Gz0kWhwUFGhapKLKc05Q_0QDaFu3qS-jsvUkgz0QKecwTyAKmlktrwmb1bDax5TLToxOjq9ggWf-3AWVAXsdt64VQgkuvqkcDEhv4T2JER0RDnBwn9J0cbpMVgndgX6-L21IaysyhbgWwTnu3_u-42MqDIqD0KJ38_AIToBKLowEAAA==

hey bro, did s340fn i3 with 8GB of ram comes with dual channel ram???
Hard to tell, you can check it in device manager or CPU-Z -> SPD tab if it use 2 slots or just one.
aye tryna locate the processor on my laptop but cant find it, would really apprecaite it if someone told me where :D
Can it change the m.2 ssd to nvme ssd?
I cannot confirm, that it will work or not, the feedbacks are quite mixed. The time I recorded this it only supported SATA m.2 SSDs (as it show in this video), but it seems for some NVMe does work. Anyway as for performance I guess you will not notice any significant speed bump. I rather use the m.2 SSD for operating system drive and add a secondary 2.5inch SATA SSD to the 2.5 inch bay for storage expansion.
makaitechreviews okay thank you for the answer!
How do I know if it comes with the M.2 or the normal ssd
Well if you already have the device and don't want to open it up, then check in Device Manager->Disk drives and Google up the product number of the drive you have.
merci pour cette vidéo
is this same as asus x412fj ,plss reply
No, internally these 2 looks very different. X412 inside: www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/_processed_/d/7/csm_Asus_Vivobook_14_X412FJ_Innereien_a1ada181af.jpg
But in terms of upgrade options, they are pretty much identical.
My advise is just to pop off the bottom cover and check for yourself. ;)
@@MakaiTechReviews Okay bro, Will check it and Thank You so much for replying 😊😊
Bro, In the Task Manager > Performance > Memory, it says slots used 2 of 4, Does it mean there are 4 slots for the ram and if I put 8GB ram in each of the slots it will be total of 24GB, Will it support?
@@phoolbabu7649 Nah, thats not the case. The CPU/chipset can handle 4 slots (and report false info to you), but physically you have no more than 1 for expansion and 1 is integrated into the motherboard.
