Kids First Guitar Lesson "One Finger Chords" A First Lesson and Beyond

The video looks at the first eight guitar chords that any beginner (not just kids) should learn at the start of their musical journey. The chords (C, A G, E, D, Am Dm and Em) are used by guitar teachers the world over at this stage in a student's study for two reasons. The first is (perhaps unsurprisingly) that they are "easy" to form on the guitar for people totally unfamiliar with the instrument.
The second (and more important) reason is that they are the most useful chords to learn first because they allow a beginner guitarist to operate effectively (and therefore have the potential to play countless thousands of songs) in two of the more "guitar friendly" keys (G and A).
What are "guitar friendly" keys?
Without going too far into music theory here suffice to say that each major key contains six "useful" chords (based on the first six notes of its parent major scale). The eight guitar chords during the early stages feature five of the six "chords that work" in the key of G which makes G a great key for a novice to learn new songs in.
The eight chords also also contain the three most "important" chords in the key of A (A, D and E) which allow a guitar player to work on an infinite number of Blues, Rock and Roll and Country songs during the early stages of guitar playing.
In addition to the important chords from within the key two chords that are useful when playing or composing Rock and Metal songs on guitar in the key of A (C and G) that are not made up only of notes to be found in the A major scale are also found in the eight chords that should be studied first.
To sum it up working in G is great for Pop, Country, Blues and Rock and Roll while the key of A is a great place to start for students who are keen on Rock, Blues or Country styles
When a guitar student has mastered moving between the eight chords in the video they are ready to move onto the next stage which involves introducing new shapes (including Bm (B minor - the final useful chord drawn from the key of G) and the F shape which will allow a guitar player to operate in the key of C.
