You might have more joy batoning with a bigger baton and onto a firm surface like a tree stump or even the pieces you batoned first. 7Cr17MoV is supposed to be a corrosion resistant carbon steel so although it shouldn't rust easily it still needs the same care as a higher carbon steel knife. On a knife review, you should first evaluate if it is properly sharpened and note that. If it isn't excellent, then sharpen it before continuing with tests. That was NOT sharp on the non-serrated area because it would not cut paracord without extreme force. I would not go into the field with the knife in that condition.
