    Use a flat sheet magnet, our town has pizza advertisement magnets perfect for keeping the bits organized, after snapping them off the card.

    You hit the nail on the head here, it's a good exercise in improvisation and improving existing skills but like a lot of these things, if you don't put the time in beforehand they are mostly useless. Getting less serious, it would be fun to use one of these kits over a couple of days, maybe with a reference book or two and learn to integrate natural components, even unnatural ones like the plastic bottle you found. Maybe getting together a better kit for yourself after you have the experience.

    So shopping cart should consist of survivor card, survival knife , multi tool , snare wire, and other items to actually make the survivor card somewhat useful.

      @grimgranite  Рік тому +7

      Yeah, I see it this way. These cards offer something additional to a well thought out survival kit. They aren’t meant to be stand alone kits themselves. I think if you have a good multi tool in your kit, it makes the saws and “knife” on the cards redundant. 😅

      Fishing hooks and snares locks. Thats why I have one. Never tried the needles.

      I tried the needle with inner paracord strands. It worked to sew up a hole in a water bottle pouch. It is not as easy to manipulate as a regular needle & and thread, but it got the task done.

    Really good video!…..one thing that I like to do is just takings a couple of them camping and just making handles for the knives in the card spears ext and it was really fun actually. And one time I made scissors but to be honest I wouldn’t rely on it for survival.

    Survival kits and accessories are fun especially when customizing kits. These testing videos are cool and I think people who watch them like them alot more in comparison to plain old reviews. How do we know if it works, right? field reviews

    Grimworkshop makes a thicker one now. Hot shot fire starter card. Two credit card thickness. Knife has a chisel grind. It has a ferro rod/magnesium piece/saw/tweezers/prytool, etc. 24 bucks.

    You could use the arrowheads to just make a dart. Use a slightly hefty stick and put the tip on and then just use his on things like squirrel or even birds

  • @MajesticRidez
    @MajesticRidez Рік тому +2

    I used the arrow head as a spear it’s kind of like you said 💩 as you have to make a bow the fork is good for snake eating as a snake gig if you need a back up

    Grim Survival cards are the best, and keep getting better. You can put the parts back on the card so you don’t lose bits. Practice is key. Having been in a survival situation, I can tell you I would have been thrilled to have one in my pocket, starting with the Grim Survival Hot Shot fire card.

    Really great video! I can see how they can be better than nothing especially on the more useful ones, that being said as long as the metal quality is good enough for it to last at least a little then i could see the value of certain ones like the arrowhead which could actually potentiality kill small game such as rabbits, thanks for the videos!

      @grimgranite  Рік тому +3

      Thanks for watching! Better than nothing is a good way to think of them, yes. I think it might be good to buy 2-3 and get out and use them your self, just to practice and try things out.

    Everyone i wanna adress the bow part of the video bows aren't hard to construct at all in the woods what you must understand is that a bow doesn't have to be pretty and can be made from a simple sapling longbow now longbows are the easiest to construct because you get a lot more springness to it and it doesn't matter what wood u use it can be a horrible bow wood but a sapling as long as you will do the trick make sure its no more than 3 fingers thick than youre good to go if its thicker than that just carve a little bit until it becomes around 3 fingers thick now whats important is that u dont remove the bark if u leave the bark u get a much longer lifetime for ur survival bow if u leave the bark on because when wet and moistured bows made from bad bow wood will still remain springy and usable but when they dry they lose flexibility so keeping the bark will minimize loss of moisture in ur bow next after cutting the sapling make sure its a straight sapling get the straightest u can find to cut than carve the notches and string it you will be getting very decent tensions now the easiest bow u can make besides this is the bundle bow as mentioned u can make it from bunch of sticks and strengthen the bow with more sticks but what was not mentioned in the video is that a bundle bow needs to have straight sticks supporting it and you shouldn't add just about any stick u find laying around u should add sticks that are as straight as an arrow the bundle bow offers much more precision than a simple sapling bow because you can control the power of the bow typically you should use the same kind of wood as the one you use to make the survival arrow shafts from basically get a bunch of straight long sticks from bushes and tie them together in the video the reason the bow wasnt strong and had a long D shape to it was because the main sapling wasnt straight enough it was already curved so that greatly reduced the strength of the bow

    Several issues: Knock offs are often low grade steel compared to USA made Grims. They are a cutting danger, and ironicaly poor cutters for any "blade" that is part of it. Fish hooks are dirt cheap and much better made. Carry dedicated gear, if it is fun, carry a flat lock pick set if you have the skill, less likely you'll actually use it. lol

    another use for the snare locks is to use them for a spinner lure. a better way to use the saw blade is to make it into a bowsaw style saw. you can use the holes at each end and a small twig or a nail if you have a couple, and tension it to liking. you can cut larger diameter or deeper cuts. the barbs can also be set in the end of a pole to make a fish spear. yes a bow is hard to make in the wild, but is the best option for range weapon. the arrow heads are small and thin, but the advantage is it makes the animal bleed more (faster death).

    Great video I know you want to be inclusive to survival gear and mindset but I don't know anyone that would actually buy these besides your ultra light survivalist persona in your UA-cam shorts but I had an idea, it would be great to do with a scouts troop. So for the den leaders you get your troop a deck of these cards and have like a crafts day and more so teaching them the concepts or you can spread out the lesson plan by teaching each tool on a different day.

    It was a bit funny that you are using a real knife and multi-tool to make use of the devices on the card. I think the main practical reason for these cards is to have something with you at all times, like in a flat wallet (along with a fresnel lens), or to build a micro kit.
    I have a version of those cards that is the size of a dogtag and provides a decent arrowhead. I am an archer, fletcher, and bowmaker but I still would prefer to burn calories foraging (and fishing/trapping) than hunting in a survival situation, and, as missile weapons go, I think I would probably make a javelin, club, throwing stick, atlatl, sling arrow, sling shot, blow gun, or sling first before I invested the time, energy and resources it takes to make an effective bow.
    I might only hunt targets of opportunity while going to check my snares and fish traps or doing other survival tasks.
    Also, to make missile weapons, medical tubing, bungee, or simple rubberbands can work, but also elastic from clothing, gaskets, and springs in a pinch have enough energy to launch a light arrow to practical hunting distances for small game. Fluflu fletching can minimize over-shooting and lost arrows like if you are going for birds. Having bamboo available is like survival gold, especially for bow and arrow making.

    I think the cards specializing in fishing are the only truly useful ones. They have what are supposed to be lspoon lures in different sizes, but those can also double as snare locks. Almost all of the other things on these types of cards are just one hair's width above worthless. The knives and saws are flimsy and can't hold an edge, and just to make them somewhat usable is an unnecessary expenditure of calories. The arrowheads aren't bad, but you're more than likely going to lose those really quickly if you miss your target. So really the only truly usefull things are the fishing hooks, lures/snare locks, and sewing needles. Everything else is just kinda meh or included as after thoughts like that huge arrowhead inside of the knife is just something they threw in there to look cool and add one more thing in an attempt to increase the overall value of the card.
