We travelled overland to India from London in 1983 and mysore was my favourite place. Lovely to see that it seems just as nice now. That was a gentle introduction to Indian trains.

I am amazed how no one is interested to find out more when you said “over land from uk to India”…
My head is bursting with questions and it’s exciting!!
Sound amazing. I am already imaguning about the route you took, what modes of transport you used, whether you have to stay overnight in some countries. How much did the trip cost blah blah blah blah.
Sounds very exciting … do share some highlights!

I'm from Mysore, you will love the city. It's less chaotic than bangalore with wide roads, less traffic and rich cultural heritage. Mysore pak is a famous desert that you may wanna try. Go to Sayyajirao road and ask the locals where to get mysore pak. They will guide you to the famous bakery.

The train fares in India are far more cheaper than the fares in Western Europe or the US. Therefore, there is a good value for money. Like India, Indian Railways is also showing remarkable changes for the better in recent years. One could hope for a much cleaner, comfortable and speedier trains over the next 5 to years and will definitely catch with up with the trains run in countries like Switzerland.

Hey! You can use the official IRCTC website for booking a seat in the train and always go for ac compartments coz the general ones aren't that good.
And also priority is given to the express trains over local ones(they halt the local ones to make way for express ones) and hence the delay. So, if you don't want delays use express trains.

I boarded the same train on 24th March.😅😅😅 Actually when you board from the first or last station the passengers will be minimal. The major thing about indian railways is connecting the in between cities/routes that's where you see a swarm of people. Every train in India is almost 98% completely occupied (sleeper class) in its journey!

The train is almost vacant because the train has a very short distance to travel and the CoVID 19 effect is still there a bit. Moreover there are some routes which are packed throughout the year. Example: Chennai Kolkata Route
