7:47 Mr Dugar summarised the problems very well.
I have tried it once from Yeshwanthpur. The train came late by an hour. I had to ask the platform shopkeepers to ensure that I am on the right platform, as there were no announcements for it.
Yes . That's the fact
so we can't rely on this
looking at your comment , if the train is delayed then the flight is gone
@@sameerdontulwar9429 Yes. I started well in advance for the flight.
When compared to other mode of transport, very very cheaper. We have to adjust or catch the train early. Traffic jam comes what how will reach Airport.
Thanx, for building awareness,to population,of Bangalor, once people start using these trains regularly, maintenance will be rectified, freguancy of trains will increase, and the enroute will grow commericaly, thanx once again for building, awareness, private cars, pay toll on way to the airport, and parking charges are expensive in the airport 👍
It's a chicken and egg problem..so govt has to increase the frequency and also arwarnes
Now, this is called news! Great work! I wish if we can have a Train from Electronic City, via Carmelaram Station, to the Airport. I will take that.
Few years more,it would be a lot better by metro than train.
Hm, a few is undefined
There is one from Hellalige to ypr or sbc or reach hebbal n get bus from there but frequency of train is very less.
Hellalige is 2km from chandapura bus stop
yes, want one from e-city
As Kolkata suburban rider metro is far superior
Makes me realise how blessed us Delhi peeps are. Delhi Metro ftw!
Mumbai & Kolkata too
Those can’t be compared with Delhi metro. Delhi metro network is just crazy good. Serves two airport terminals.
@@anand.chaudhari 3 terminals with the shuttle service
@@anand.chaudhari don't you know the difference between state capital and country capital...
Good job Deccan Herald!! Love these simple yet effective case studies.
We have requested for 1. Higher punctuality & reliability 2. Good maintenance 3. Better routes & timings 4. Extending all MEMUs at least to Chikkaballapura 5. Doubling of track between Yelahanka & Devanahalli, & until that happens, to upgrade Doddajala to a Crossing Station 6. All trains must stop at all intermediate stations 7. road access to KIAD Halt Stn from surrounding area 8. Automatic Signalling on Yelahanka - Devanahalli route 9. Urgent doubling of Baiyyappanahalli - Channasandra track 10. Awareness campaigns by Railways with Celebrities & Public figures........ Metro to Airport will be ready around 2026. Work on Suburban Rail to Airport Terminal is yet to start. Hence, present train services must be improved to provide an alternate mode of commute since footfalls at Airport are increasing daily and all commute is otherwise 100% road-centric. LOW-HANGING FRUIT.
Metro to Airport will be ready operational by 2030
Don’t worry karnataka will ensure low hanging fruits become very high hanging fruits, there must be so many corrupt politicians who benefit by road traffic that train service will be back burnered again and again
@@climbeverest Yes in Bangalore many politicians have their own Transport businesses
Been a regular commuter via bengluru airport for past 15-16 years. Earlier the taxi/auto used to dig into our wallets, luckily for ola/uber this has come to some control. Really didn't know there was such an alternative. Will definitely try next time and also info all my friends. Thanks for the video and expecting more😊
Great experiment. But honestly most of us won't take the train coz getting to Majestic itself is a hassle. Bus service is slightly expensive but probably the most reliable and convenient mode of transport at the moment to KIA.
true. some more factors that Mr. Dugar didnt point out in the video-
1. The train takes a longer route to the airport. Majestic to KIA via Channasandra and Rajanukunte is an S-shaped route rather than a straight line. This increases travel time unnecessarily as compared to road.
2. Yelahanka onwards, the route till KIA is single-line and not suited for higher speed. So the frequency of trains cannot be increased beyond a certain limit.
3. The connectivity is not point-to-point. Best case also passengers will need to change from train to shuttle. Counting a transit from home to station, station to KIA, KIA halt to Airport makes it a three-legged journey which people do not prefer. The IT crowd in the city is well-earning and would prefer convenience over cost. A person who shelled out upwards of 5k for a flight ticket can easily pay 1000 for a point-to-point cab which saves time and effort.
4. People travelling with a family will prefer the convenience of cab over the hassle of bus. Handling kids, extra luggage and changing transport twice is not preferred by them.
There is a reason more and more airport cab services are coming up and thriving. With the introduction of electric cabs on the route, the journey has become faster, quiter, smoother and overall more pleasant.
i would rather pay 250 to the volvo buses. i know theyre on time, the freq is super flexible so i can get there in time, whats the point of a trian that reaches at 10 if my flight is at 8 or 12? thats 2 hours of waiting, instead i can go in ac in a volvo bus and wait in the airport lounges lol this connection makes sense only for the employees currently
@@aryanram02 exactly. I don't mind paying 100rs for the train either. Provided it is accessible and reliable.
@@sahilalitonse7053 agreed, the frequency is bad, comfort is not too big of an issue, a chill train ride is something im always welcome to. plus trains are so calm! there are no honking noises like the traffic, no frustration on the tracks and they are so gentle and whisk you away. the nice train breeze is awesome too, trains are much better when done right. i hope they focus on these instead of building another flyover by blocking traffic just so that within 1 -2 years that flyover is also jammed :(
They still in 1980s where Majestic was centre of transportation in Bangalore. They must start from Baiyappanahalli or KR puram.
Oh my God, Govt should promote this hugely. This will help the common people so so much

Thank you for letting us know. I just reached the airport today like you mentioned. So affordable and convenient.
Nice coverage. A similar experiment was done in Kolkata with suburban trains running to the airport. The route saw almost zero passengers traveling to the airport using the service. It is now getting transformed to a Metro service! I think suburban govt run service is not going to work as people who are well off to afford flight tickets would not take the hassle of going to majestic/ yehlanka and then take the train (which also takes 90 mins from majestic) and deal with the shabby travel environment. People might prefer metro (as in Delhi) which is planned to have good connectivity throughout the city.
Very Well said !!
Indian Railways should be thankef for providing such convenient facilities. People should use such facilities instead of wasting their time in traffic.
Connectivity via mass transit is much needed in any densely populated metro. Thank you for your efforts.
Much needed . But Politicians, bureaucrats & Municipal Officials who do their work with thought for the welfare + convenience of the average working class are a rare breed . They service the Business class who fund their political activities & vested interests. Plus their priority are the low / no income strata that's the largest voting mass in India. That's one of the top reasons why India continues lack in such infra .
This is what actual JOURNALISM is . good Job by the team .keep it up . i am a pakka bengalurian - i did not knew that this kind of service exists .
I stay in Nagarbhavi , so i can use the Yeshwantpur train to travel to airport . but for that i need to go from Nagarbhavi to Yeshwantpur carrying that big luggage travelling 45 mins .
This is vlogging
Accha to kya karu
This should be media’s responsibility…highly appreciated journalism ❤❤❤😊😊 hats off presentation
Splendid information....
What I understand is that this service is mainly targeted to benefit the people who are engaged in any sort of work in the KIAL and the few hotels that are evolving around. Even it'd help if anyone wishes to travel to airport to receive their near and dear ones. In order to make it useful for travellers, it needs to be reliable, sustainable, available, comfortable, and punctual.
Had no idea this existed, would be great if there a live online tracking schedule so we can plan accordingly and avail this service
You can make use of where is my train app.

I agree with Rajkumar Sir, Adding to this The problem with KSRTC and railway is that not everyone stays near majestic in Bengaluru. If KSRTC can create a nodal point and have more frequent buses from or too lets say Hebbal, Tin factory, HSR, Whitefield for those buses which travels outside the City would really help the commuters. Also will help reducing the monopoly of Private buses which over charge for convenience. I think a good number of people travel from bengaluru to Shimogga, Mengaluru, Udupi, Kundapura and we are at the mercy of private buses. Also its high time that Bengaluru gets a secondary mega station which is closure to all the IT park. Byappanahalli would be a great place to consider.
Mega station Railway or Bus....?
Uday Shetty
Can u give timing please?
Punctuality and connectivity to station is important. Train from Hosur to Airport will help South Eastern passengers and daily commuters, once the doubling of line is completed from Hosur to Bayapannahalli and more Suburban station built along the line.
screw hosur, hosur is not Karnataka. why should Bengaluru do anything for your pathetic City? go ask your state tamilnadu for your grievances.
Recently been to BLR after so many years! It’s HOT/Crowded/Dry and took a train from Chikkaballapur to KSR, it took it’s own time. Gone are those best and beautiful 1990 days! But still love BLR! Love from MAA!

Hourly trains between KSR City Jn (via Cantt, Byapanahalli) and Whitefield (via Yeshwantpur) to Airport even if it operates between 4 am to 10 pm will help. It has to reliable with +/- 15 mts variability.
it will have to be accommodated on existing tracks that are handling high frequency freight and passenger traffic from 4 directions (MAS, MYS, North and Carmelaram lines). A dedicated suburban railway infra is being built exactly for this reason that the intercity traffic is not hindering with 15-minute frequency commuter rail.
(1) Also enough publicity should be given and (2) frequency should be increased.
They should keep trains early in the morning too because the majority of people travel early in the morning
Yeah , that won't work, travel the previous night and sleep at airport😂
@@Naveen72927 sir that is what iam trying to convey, they should do early morning service and bring clean and hygienic interiored trains. The reason for poor patronage is the reason that people don't find trains at their available time.

This is amazing I love train journeys 😊
Awareness is the key to success..
Not just skillset..
It is all about awareness...
Very useful information. Just last month, I travelled from Bengaluru City to the airport by paying Rs.2000 to the cab. More than the money, we had to start at 1 pm for our flight at 6.30 pm to beat the evening traffic. I had searched in ntes as well as in Google to see whether any rail connectivity is there to the airport, but could not find an option in trains or metro. Seems the railways itself is not very keen on leveraging this alternative travel option which could benefit a lot of people. Next time, I will definitely be exploring this option. Thank you for the highly beneficial information.
where did u start from? Whitefield to KIAB can be covered in 3 hours prior to flight departure with ample time for luggage and security check-in. you can also leverage the Digiyatra app to bypass longer queues at the airport as there are separate entry gates for app users.
man a better way in my opinion is metro is the way to go, from most parts of the city u can get to majestic and from there you can comfortably take a volvo, it takes more time but u are in an air conditioned metro thats fast and quite fun and then you shift to buses coming very frequently to it so u are guarenteed a seat in the volvo to the airport, its so comfy, nice and cold and convinient. much much better than paying 2k for a cab, with the 2k i can just have a nice weekend outing alone 🃏
@@aryanram02good option, except your "most parts of the city" are currently very limited. Entire Bangalore East IT corridor is still waiting for the KIA metro line eagerly.
This is good journalism. This coverage will let people know about it.
Technically speaking, this train and shuttle is mostly designed for employees and locals to get around. Because think about it, if someone's flight lands at 10 am but the next train back home is at 12 pm or 1 pm, will they wait for 3 hours? I don't think so. Similarly for departures. Pretty sure railways is not going to run a train every 15 minutes so that every one who is traveling by flight can use it.. Thats why there is an airport metro under way. Much more frequent service that is connected to the wider metro network with good connectivity.
Agreed. this comment is much better than the news report.
Exactly
Great reporting with in 10 minutes of time, she covered in and out of the given topic. Absolutely well trained reporter, need to be encouraged and protected on any cost.
They should advertise about this service and also make proper announcements in the railway station with timing's and platform number.
Wow this is awesome

Time Table Trains from Airport: drive.google.com/file/d/1HAxBWLKC9rsioNDHCUaparvS8ZhxjUVU/view?usp=sharing
BMTC Vayu Vajra is still reliable. Higher Frequency, ~250-300 per person, covering major parts of the city. Someone who is travelling to airport to catch a flight would be able to afford the bus. For those who work there it is a different story all together. That conversation can extend to K Ride or the local train connectivity for all the people who work in the city. There was a service from Byapannahalli to KIA but it was stopped due to poor ridership. Maybe videos like these will spread awareness and also encourage the administration. The first resistance you will get from transport unions who will say that they will lose revenue
Maybe a timetable too would help passengers to and fro ..at appropriate timings ...now flight has become more conjested than trains and it would be affordable to the middle class where toll is heavy and as also the taxi or Volvo fare...it shd start st vantage points, say Hebbal, yelahanks Whitefield ,K r puram Byappanhalli, electronic city....The other day I was told it took Volvo bus nearly 2 hrs from electronic city to near Yhka...then what time do we leave home for a flight...I think airport authority shd think of connecting other cities to all metro cities by flight...say shimoga, mysore etc to Delhi, madras,Hyderabad, Calcutta etc...Anyway good info...rkwys shd look into the maintenance of such trains to benefit more passengers.
Awesome, ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿದೆ , ದೊಡ್ಡ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ
Very good info.. but international passenger never wants to take risk opting this service.. a continuous schedule should be there from one point to another.. like every 1hr from Majestic to Airport.. 24/7.. even with higher prices people can plan..with this service its impossible.. by default govt assume all flight travellers are rich can afford taxi cost.. but govt should think of rising traffic and pollution..
Well said.
Great informative video. Actually I didnot knew this till date.
I knew that the train service existed but I didnt know that after reaching KIA halt station there's a shuttle service, I thought I will have to take a cab or auto which will cost me Rs 250-300 which is the same cost as the Vayu Vajra from home till airport. Also I prefer Vayu Vajra because it is more convenient as I dont have to do break journey, I board the bus near to my house and directly get off at the airport.
this ... people prefer point-to-point journey which is not offered by KIA rail service.
It is surprising that the sub-urban trains are so free....in chennai it is almost always crowded and reasonably punctual too
Route of this train are not well planned
This is not exactly a suburban railway service, as Bengaluru still doesn't have it's own dedicated suburban railway system.
I am from Chennai. I agree with you. Seen many passengers traveling by Metro from and to Madras Airport. Chennai airport.
Good Information
90 mins is high too.. but it avoids traffic and less cost
Great information
00:06 Getting to the airport by train is a convenient option
01:07 SWR started Memu train services to Kempegowda International Airport in January 2021.
02:22 Three trains start from KSR and go to different destinations
04:25 Metro connectivity is good with comfortable AC bus
06:07 Reached airport in 90 minutes and avoided traffic
07:12 Low patronage for airport trains due to lack of awareness and alternative transport options.
08:08 Trains are unreliable with poor punctuality and maintenance
08:58 There is a new service in Electronic City
Only frequent small capacity memu train to different stations will help in better road management. Route planning and full 24 hour schedule needed.
really great video
Ideally video should have focused on to whom this service is useful ( only for people who stay in heart of city). Lets say if you want to traver from whitefield , banashankari etc..) This option would take lot more time than cab and these trains are not at all reliable. How often shuttle services are avaiable, Please specifty.. How to find schedules of airport trains, Highlight that as part of video which will make some difference..
Good work
Very nice coverage, kudos. It would have been nice if you had investigated signage that tells passengers about this train at the Airport terminals (or lack thereof). Also, if someone asks the information kiosk, will they get the right info? With the advent of MEMUs, it is hard to see why the IR does not send a 4 car MEMU to just the airport stop every hour from Yeshwanthpur where there is metro connectivity, for example. City station is the most inconvenient place to start a journey to the airport because it is always busy and needs a metro trip anyway.
Lovely news article... focusing on things that matter.... well done, journalist & newspaper.
Hygiene in the train and reliable time that runs throughout the day and night are utmost important. Most International flights are at midnight or early morning and we need 2-3 hours early for check-in before the actual flight.
the competitor of this train is a vayu vajra fully air conditioned volvo bus that is reliable wrt timing and whisks you away to airport for 250. it might take longer some times but throughout the way is AC and comfortable so a longer time isnt too bad imo
It is quite common for any major airport in the world to have regular trains to the city. The train fare can also be included in the flight ticket to make it comfortable for passengers. Such a system is a little far away in India but it'll be there soon. There should be a train from airport to Bangalore city or major IT hubs at least every half an hour. Only then will more and more people start using them.
Brother, Delhi has metro directly connected to its airports. There is no traffic issue at all.
B'lore has a long way to go whr commute to any point is concerned. Mostly for working ppl thr is a high dependency on autos & pre-paid cabs . Among these two, autos are the worst. They don't ply by the meter & charge arbit high amounts .
And if a person takes a bike / Uber moto then auto drivers threaten & harass the bike drivers . Reason --- Ktka Govt is in discussion with Auto Union for their demand to minimize pre-paid cab service & most likely stop bike service. Bike service is a life line for many working ppl to avoid the unreliable Auto rickshaws.
Correct
Excellent information, this should reach to many people as possible
If you want common flight passengers to use train service to airport, you have built it the way Delhi Airport Line is built.
There is a train every 15 minutes. Its fully AC, well maintained, and reliable.
It also leaves from New Delhi, and Dwarka stations which are one of the major terminals.
Compare that service to this train service (In Bangalore) and you know the exact reason why its underused.
For context, Delhi airport is actually much easier to reach by road. Yet, the airport line occupancy is 50-70%. Despite the tickets being ₹70-100 depending on your originating station.
Correct Sir you're Talking the Dedicated Airport Line. From where you can Directly Reach to Terminal 2
Thanks for sharing
Pls Mention The Timing of Arrival and Departure From KSR and Devanhalli Station

Great stuff
My issue with the maintenance is that yes the railway authorities should do it but bigger problem is our own people who have no civic sense. Our people don't believe in keeping things clean, the very services they use daily. This whole "nam kelsa alla" "naav yaak madbeku" attitude is why our country even today is dirty. We have no pride in our own surroundings. Unless the mindset changes, we will always be like this, irrespective of whatever trillion dollar economy we become.
Thank you for making this video, most of the people are unaware of the train facility and the management failed to give enough publicity, may be due to the private taxi nexus with the railway and airport authorities 😮😊
I have travelled once From Yelankha to Airport
The service is worst we are waiting for Metro to come which is not possible until 2027 ;
I would call it a click bait. No passenger including the Deccan herald team will never opt for this option while traveling. Moreover it is closed on Sunday, this train is no way intended to take passengers.
