I’ve mentioned this before here - and the fact that I’VE mentioned it makes it very important, obvs - the quality of the audio is so good. It really is. Not just the peaks; the recording and levels all the way through. Everything else is godawful. Sorry, I haven’t drunk since NYE and, of course, Trump’s ‘goodbye’. I haven’t fully resolved my 2021 internet persona yet. Little bit silly drunk as I am, it’s very good, mate.
This guy is hilarious, I really like his personality and comments, but was this made before the other options were allowed? I just ordered one, and the things he is criticizing as being missing are options (such as the full leather package in the interior) and various other items.
Audi should also give the option of a V8 like the original with a manual gearbox. Obviously the V10 has better performance but it would be cool to have that option
It's funny you mention the door because I have a problem with my Jaguar XKR where the door switch in the lock mechanism is not working properly so the car thinks the passenger door is always open. The wind will go down but won't return. I would imagine a lot of cars that have windows like this will fail at some point. Mine lasted 18 years. If I was to buy a R8 it would be the this model. I'm like that with most super cars I feel like the best one is the bog standard verison.
I like the R, but can’t help thinking that the earlier cars are much better looking being far less fussy in the details. The V10 however makes a glorious noise. They’ve always been very usable but have suffered because of the badge. Agree that people will buy the Quattro versions.
Subscribed and unsubscribed previously but back on board again. You’re on a roll with this varied, interesting and honest content of late. Can’t quite place what you are doing differently but it’s working. Nice but flawed R8.
A rear wheel drive Audi, wow, you'd have thought that if they dropped 4wd, they would have went for fwd. They had to tone it down, why, what's wrong with the company, didn't they want to sell more? C8 corvette Z06 kinda doing this car better but that's probably not gonna be too available in EU. 670HP NA Flat plane V8 with a dual clutch. revs to almost 9k rpm
I currently have a C7 Z06 manual.. and am considering my next purchase. I like the idea of a mid engine car and rather have something like this than the new C8. Just seems more special... more super car. Thoughts?
As they no longer sell the 540PS version, I wonder if anyone took your advice and ordered one with the Exclusive treatment? I think it's a bit of a shame that the 540PS version is no longer sold, because if you want a car for British roads, I don't think the extra power enhances your enjoyment, rather the opposite.
Road, seat, arse. That's all you need, less is more. For my money though a BMW M4 GTS, I sat in one, it was like coming home, the R8, a dentist's waiting room.
The Gen 1 facelift in Manual will be the one that will be most sought after. Plus the vast majority of them don't have the scurge of modern motoring - the black alloy wheel.
Aside from the fake vents and the inexcusable plastic paddle shifters, I can't really fathom why EVO Magazine rated it very low for their Car Of The Year 2020. I'll still never understand how the M2 CS won it but hey, I can't really talk as I haven't driven either of the cars!
It's like a weird kit car or a prototype or something, I think it looks very odd without the blades if you ask me, like a copy. The interior being crummy at this price is a joke, audi can and do make some lovely interiors
Do you hear and recognise the exhaust valves rattle just before automatically opening? Times are gone, where you were allowed to open them manually by a button... soon they will be forbidden completely... sad times!

Loved the camera angle where you can see the engine and through the front windscreen....and what a noise coming from that engine too 👍👍
New rising star in youtube car world!
im gonna be honest the colour coded side blades are a genuine improvement in my eyes it looks real clean
That R8 is beautiful.
Great video JM. I followed your thinking. Pete 🇬🇧
love ur videos mate! keep up the good content
Brilliant review. Thanks.
JayM. An Audi with a V10 engine is just everyday Lambo in cross dressing drag ! Would love to see a later R8S V8TT ? V.
Bi Turbo or a Supercharger on a V8, with a good old fashioned manual box. Could easily get over 500bhp with a heavier V10 engine.
No. Fuck sake
JM is sort of like a cross between Elvis and Mr Creosote?
Hahahahaha the doors and garden glove
Much prefer the looks of the first generation, and also gated manual for the win! :)
too round, too slow. I've had a v8 and v10 manual, now have a Gen2 plus. It's a totally different league. I've pulled a 2.64 to 60 in it.
James - "V10" really needs to be in the title. The views will go WAY up. You're welcome. Love your channel man.
Good point.
Thank you for review.
I like the R, but can’t help thinking that the earlier cars are much better looking being far less fussy in the details. The V10 however makes a glorious noise.
They’ve always been very usable but have suffered because of the badge. Agree that people will buy the Quattro versions.
Great content !
Great car & review the biggest problem for this car is a nearly new performance r8 for similar money 💰
Great video presentation 😀👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love your recommendation - trying to do the same for a Porsche gts4.0! Then one of these
Subscribed and unsubscribed previously but back on board again. You’re on a roll with this varied, interesting and honest content of late. Can’t quite place what you are doing differently but it’s working. Nice but flawed R8.
Welcome back
If I were to get an R8 it would be a loaded 2017-18 Spyder version. Updated styling, 540HP, AWD. sweet
It's an absolute classic.
Nice video. I'm prefer manual original v10 version. @jayEmm, you mentioned you have a new video on it. Has it been published?
A rear wheel drive Audi, wow, you'd have thought that if they dropped 4wd, they would have went for fwd. They had to tone it down, why, what's wrong with the company, didn't they want to sell more? Good video, i love your honesty, I hate sycophants, you can't trust them, if i had a wad of cash, I'd ask here what you'd suggest as I know I'd get an honest opinion, or you'd just ignore me.
Can you do a BMW 3.0CSL or/and a 2002ti please, anyone out there got one for for James to drive, pretty please?
Imo, one of the best looking cars around
It seems like you get up to a ton in the little roads or am I just guessing but the cars you drive are amazing vehicles .
Thoughts?
Gettttttttt ittttttt
Which supercar has good luggage space?
Amazing the difference 6 months make. Couldn’t get a new R8 till 2022 so brought RWD 8 month old one & now it’s gone up 6 grand since I brought it ??
Crazy isn't it!
I am proud to have had a hand in this video... No, I mean literally... My hand is in this video 😅
👋👋👋 lol 😜

The only people that want manuals are people stuck in the past. The Gen2 is a beast.
I reaaallly would love to see it compared to new F-Type P450 RWD
Aside from the fake vents and the inexcusable plastic paddle shifters, I can't really fathom why EVO Magazine rated it very low for their Car Of The Year 2020. I'll still never understand how the M2 CS won it but hey, I can't really talk as I haven't driven either of the cars!
I find myself disagreeing with EVO a lot
Engine is a peach. Sounds AWESOME.... Maintenance high but relative cheap compared with other super cars
I didn’t know these were a thing lovely car
well i know it is different car but i chose my 17- 911 turbo bc with a couple dollars it has over 700 hp
It's like a weird kit car or a prototype or something, I think it looks very odd without the blades if you ask me, like a copy. The interior being crummy at this price is a joke, audi can and do make some lovely interiors
Do you hear and recognise the exhaust valves rattle just before automatically opening? Times are gone, where you were allowed to open them manually by a button... soon they will be forbidden completely... sad times!
If VAG had made it manual and done something with the non-£120k, TT-esque styling , they could have been on to a winner like the 911 R.
The 911R wasn't a winner though - it was a nostalgia car bought be speculators. The GT3 touring is the same car for a normal price. It looks a bit like a TT, but who cares when you're driving it.
