- This is the final ending from Afterbirth+, and can be obtained by beating Delirium in the Void.
Here is the battle with Delirium: • NEW FINAL BOSS - Delir...
To unlock the void, beat Hush with (I think) any character, though I did it with Apollyon. Then, to get to the void, kill Hush again on another playthrough (I've seen some people say it's also after beating Satan/Isaac or the Lamb/Blue Baby but I haven't tested that as of yet).

This is even worse than it seems. See, Isaac *couldn't* have died of suffocation in the chest. The whole game was him hallucinating and confusing things as a result of delirium. Delirium doesn't happen because of lack of oxygen, but it can happen as a result of severe dehydration. That'll set in after one or two days without water, after which the body will begin to shut down more and more.
After three to four days without water, the skin will start to turn grayish or blueish as the blood is drawn toward the core of the body. And look what color Isaac turns at :28 seconds. It's only after five days that the body really begins to shut down the organs and start dying.
Poor Isaac must've in that chest, slowly dying and hallucinating, for at least a week.
He also dehydrated so quick because he cried almost all the time
In the cutscenes he was hyperventilating AND crying. That would obviously speed up his death tremendously. It would also be quite hot in a chest I'd imagine, so crying and sweating at the same time would make dehydration a fast task.

So Isaac died believing that he was the devil, and that his mother was going to kill him. My theory is that Isaac's mother never wanted to kill him, he only thought that because of all the things he heard from the christian broadcasts, and maybe his mother blamed him for the death of his father/ he blamed himself for a divorce. The reason he's stuck in limbo is because he never fully converted to Christianity, but being a young child instead of going to hell he went to purgatory.

I think the saddest thing about this whole custcene is the drawings shot. It pretty much explains why Isaac is like that, imagining horrible and fucked up stuff. It switches from a bunch of innocent drawings, where he's with Guppy, playing with his dad, trying out a wig, looking at his parents fighting and not understanding why, his house etc., to drawing his mom with a knife, drawing himself as the devil and insulting himself, constantly scribbling "BAD" "I'MBAD" on the wall, and finally drawing himself killing his family, because he feels responsible for the divorce of his parents.
The religious imagery made a young and innocent kid like Isaac draw his parents dead and bloodied, with himself as the devil looming over them. That combined with his dad shouting "i'm outta here", which was the final nail in the coffin for Isaac's mental health, really makes the whole scene tragic, and i want to cry just writing this.
I think one of the goals of Edmund was to translate part of his childhood and his horrible relationship with christianity as a kid in the game, and man he succeeded.

So Isaac locks himself in the chest, and he starts to turn blue before he dies. That is him turning into Blue Baby. Maybe why ??? can't have red hearts is because he is just a dead Isaac whose heart stopped beating, not allowing him to receive blood (or red hearts in this case.) Then in the final scene, it shows Isaac in a "afterlife", drifting away from the chest. This is Isaac turning into the lost, or a ghostly state of himself. The reason why The Lost doesn't have health is because The Lost is just a ghost.
Also, Delirium could represent Isaac's final mental breakdown. Maybe the reason why Delirium can't stop changing form is because of Isaac thinking of all the horrors he has been through. :p

All endings seem to be parts of his memory, and especially the ones after defeating Hush, Delirium and Mega Satan tell about his mental disorder and him blaming on himself for making his father leave. In the game (final ending) it seems like he can't live with his 'fault', that his father left, so he locked himself into his toy box/chest, going through his memory and suffocating, later wandering around as a restless/*lost* soul in limbo/purgatory.
Also, it seems like as his dad left, he thought at first that it was the fault of his mother, that his dad left, drawing a story about it, as seen in prologue when starting the game and after killing mom, later blaming himself, which may be because of his mental breakdown, leading him to draw bad stories about himself and committing suicide.

Isaac's decayed body and skeletal remains found in the chest would also be The Forgotten. Implying that he was forgotten and left in the chest so long that his other cells faded away.

My dad has been playing this game for years, I've seen him play almost all the endings and then he got to this one. I couldn't stop crying. And I know he's just a game character but damn, it hits hard.
This is honestly a heart breaking ending, and the music doesn't help that fact.. I know that the community surrounding this game can be quite crass (not in a negative way but y'know), like with meme mods, wacky items, trying to break the game with insane synergies and other various things, but at the core of this game, it's about a kid's final moments. He's scared, crying, hallucinating, and just wanting to be loved by his mother and father. I don't know if Repentance will hold the final ending, but I hope it continues where this one left off.
It scares me how much I can relate to Isaac's struggles with his parent's separation.

It is not his father we see in the end and the reason is:
The story is inspired from biblical text's and Isaac gets send to limbo which is the land of the "Lost" souls which could explain the character the Lost. The text's says that unbaptised children are send there which in this case might have happened to Isaac.

The Land of The Lost is a 80's TV show my parents gave me to watch.
@@wattlebby i know its a few years late, but the "land of lost souls" he mentions is likely a reference to dante's inferno's version of limbo, where the unbaptized children, those who never knew god but were otherwise sinless were sent to there.

At 0:39 Isaacs dad says "im out of here" maybe but im sure thats when isaacs mum becomes depressed and Isaac thinks its himself that caused his dad to leave and in the cutsences when you beat a boss and go through the trap door to the next floor you can see that Isaac gets bulied by other kids and thats why Isaac locks himself in the chest so he can escape all the Bullying and guilt of his life.
Spot on, I agree. I think blaming himself for his dad leaving was the final and primary tipping point which made him decide to kill himself (as well as the bullying like you said)
TheSalbolt I don’t think it was an act of suicide. The chest is where he goes to escape reality, it’s what his fantasy world is in the basement. He unintentionally locks himself in and suffocates, with no way to get help.

Don't forget that there are items that are actually really dark. "Dinner" is a literal can of dog food. "Breakfast" is spoiled milk.
"Cat O' Nine Tails" is a whip, and Isaac's appearance after you collect it.. is well.. yeah. Also his speed goes up after you get it. You can make the connections there.
Don't get me started on the "Torn Photo" which makes your tear rate go way up.
Don't forget "the spoon" and "the belt", both of which also increase speed....
And all the pills/needles Issac finds.

2 years late, but I’m not convinced by the theory that Isaac blamed himself for his fathers death. The picture of his mother with a knife after the picture of him crossdressing makes me think she actually believed he was evil (Presumably based on the line in the bible forbidding men from wearing women’s clothes and women wearing men’s clothes). Then Isaac would start to believe that he deserved to die because he was sinful or that God wanted him killed. *Then* he locks himself in the chest.
So I think the events of the game *actually* happen, rather than being metaphorical. Except Delerium, which could be either Isaac deluding himself into believing he’s evil or his mothers delusions. Or both.
1 I’m pretty sure the father divorced, mainly by the fact that you can hear him yelling that he’s leaving in the animation, and further supported by the item “divorce papers”, which is considered both a mom and dad item. 2 it’s a little hard to say but I like your use of mentioning the sin of cross dressing in the Bible, but it’s also possible that Isaacs mom just struck out at him in grief, as in she was trying to cope. I’m also not sure if she’d put up the missing posters unless she was in fact delusional enough to think that she and she alone would have to kill Isaac. Also it’s interesting that isaacs skeleton is called “the forgotten” instead of something like “the found”, complimenting “the lost”

It's not explicitly clear but to me it seems like Isaac's entered some kind of Limbo afterlife thing. Or it could be a metaphor for his soul leaving our Earthly realm and going to heaven or something like that. It's open for interpretation

Yea, pretty much. Now he's "lost" and forced to walk through Limbo eternally, quite sad really. (that's how i interpret it) Most likely he's in Limbo of Infants, which is basically where unbaptised young kids go (according to the Bible)

Haha, nope, I've played way too much of this game. Also, another interesting thing to add, in the ending, we see the shadow walking away after the missing poster flys away. To unlock the Lost, you have to die in the Sacrifice Room with the missing poster. Just an interesting thing to note
When I saw this ending at first time, I was laughing when I saw Isaac's skeleton: "How long did he stay inside that chest?" But when I got the sense of it... it changed my mind at all. Poor boy, because of his parents' fights, and his father leaving them, thought he's evil, and he's the cause of all of this. Because of this, he locked himself in a chest, and slowly suffocated. His mother was looking for him, and after a few time, she finds his skeleton in the chest. Very sad, and true ending. Afterbirth+ leaded us to the true final of the story...

No, ending 19 is different to the final. Ending 19 involves the shopkeeper greed, and is the same as the other greed ending except its head rolls off and spiders spew out its neck

And then repentance came along
Mom was told by God to kill Isaac, Mom was close to killing him but an Angel came and knocked Mom out with the Bible. While Mom was knocked out, Isaac read the Bible and realized he was sinful and thinking the world would be better without him. Thus, he hid himself in the chest and died of suffocation (Blue Baby or ??? is unlocked). Mom wakes up and puts missing posters of Isaac (hence the Missing Poster item in game). She soon finds Isaac in the chest as a skeleton (The Forgotten is unlocked). In the final ending, Isaac is seen walking in Purgatory and Purgatory is a place where the souls of dead children go to repent their sins, its confirmed that Edmund McMullin is making The Binding of Isaac: Repentance so this comes full circle.
honesty. I think that Issac isn't in heaven or hell. concitering hes in a Forrest with dead trees. and the eerie but almost calming ambience. he might be in limbo. or somting like it. I don't really know honestly. it's just a theroy.

Then Isaac fight against his fears... And mom\moms heart to get away?

And why is Isaacs mom crying? He is away,OK but god said she should kill him?

I'll explain it how I understand it, but the first thing to note is anything in the game we play and the prologue is not real, it is just Isaac's imagination.
Originally Isaac's family was a normal catholic family. At some point, his mum and dad started to argue to the point where they divorced and his dad left. Isaac, being a young child, blamed this on himself and saw himself as the reason they broke up. Thus he fantasizes about punishing himself from things he learnt from the bible, and saw himself as the devil. Thus he attempts suicide by locking himself into a chest to suffocate to death, as we see in the ending. Everything we play in the game is what he's imagining as he's slowly dying in the chest. His mother looks for him and hangs up missing posters (another ending) as she believes he ran away. Eventually she opens the chest to find his skeleton from when he suffocated a while back.
In this final ending we see (what i believe to be) Isaac's spirit walking away in most likely "Limbo" (in the middle of heaven and hell), however you could interpret that as Heaven or Hell depending on your perspective.
His mum never heard a voice from God. Isaac just imagined this as he believed he was evil and deserved to die.

I think what people are saying is that this Final ending didn't show anything that wasn't in Ending 17 or some other already.
That could be part of it, yea, and is very true. To be honest the only real "new" info we got was on Isaac's father, and that most likely his self hatred is something related to his parents splitting up
The important thing this ending brings is confirmation, I think. The previous endings left a lot open to interpretation, except for Isaac suffocating in his chest in the end. But this outright tells us things like Isaac's father did leave them, his mom did snap and chase him with a knife at some point, and Isaac blames himself for what happened.
Twilight Vulpine it concluded everything and confirming what we though.. not everything need a Big twist shyamalan..

This is just a part of what Isaac told his father about his made-up story about him and his mother. (At least I THINK that's what went on.) But just seeing that this entire story of pain and suffering is just a made-up story by Isaac is just adorable, and i love it. It's just the best ending for this game.

Isaac kills everyone in his family.The corpse in the chest is from his sister(Magdalene).This information explains his family breaking apart, mother and father fighting because the caotic situation, doesn't knowing how to act in front the eminent son's homicide, thinking he is a type of demon who must be purified(Azazel), leaving no choice for Isaac unless kill the only witnesses of his crime.The missing paper is because he is wanted from the police.All the monsters in the game are products from his mind.Delirium is the final product and answer for Isaac's history.Isaac in reality is Delirium (literally).Isaac going away in last scene is like mother's scene going away when we unlock the missing paper, what made us think that she was getting away after killing her own son and hid his dead body in the chest, only a product of Isaac's mind, that helped him reach the conclusion to kill his own family.The Isaac's going away scene is the real scene in fact.
Interesting but i've seen different theories which would debunk this one, isaac doesn't actually kill anyone, he only imagines fighting the 'bosses' nothing actually happens. He blames himself for killing maggie because the following theory: isaac was delivered by a certain type of cesarean section which can cause issues with the child that follows after, maggie was that child who died because of those issues. The character magdaline is just isaac wearing a wig because he feels like he should be dead and maggie should be alive. There is also a theory that links maggie to hush but there is a lot of medical stuff bound to that which have to do with the side effects of the cesarean section

I disagree. The definition of delirium is a state of mental confusion. I think it represents Isaac's life flashing through his eyes as he suffocates in his toy box.
Also, it's been implied that Isaac's dad wants to protect him. Why would he take the form of an unstable and aggressive monster?

So I just finished this game. and what I gathered without looking up anything about this game's story is that the family used to be happy. but then the Dad died. The mother went crazy and blamed the fathers death on Isaac, and she locked him in the room for being the devilish thing that killed her husband. after a long time of constant abuse Isaac swallowed a bunch of pills from his mothers medicine cabinet, and committed suicide in his empty toy chest. and The mother blamed his death on some external element, and enforced the facade by putting up missing posters around town. Isaac was driven to suicide because he couldn't handle all the abuse and ridicule from not only his mother but his peers at school, and elsewhere. The game is his delusions as he descends into the abyss, and finally oblivion. Many of the games items, themes and imagery are heavy in religious symbolism. This game is also one of the most messed up games I have ever played.
