    With that interior, the Hull-A looks like a nice little runabout, even if you never haul anything with it. It's definitely an upgrade over the Mustang Beta. Stick high performance components on this thing, and it could be a very nice daily driver with the ability to pick up a big chunk of cargo when the opportunity arises.

      Not sure why you'd prefer one of these over a Lancer or 400i at least as a solo player, giving how utterly at mercy they will be to attack. (And yes, I know they're more expensive - but still.)

    • @jenathan76
      @jenathan76 2 роки тому +1

      @@shh532 Hull A is half the price of the 400i, and can carry 50% more cargo. For a roving speculator, that could be a big difference. I have a 400 and love it, but the Hull Series is filling a good niche. The small components also mean the Hull A is going to be cheaper to run and to upgrade, so there’s that. Also, easier to blend in with NPC traffic once that finally gets into the game. I doubt we’ll see many npc 400s

      for me this really shows that the Cutlass hab module is woefully lacking. Ships like the Hull A and RAFT get full suit lockers, gun racks, bathrooms, kitchens. Hopefully when they do the Corsair they'll have some new Drake hab assets that they can use to update the Caterpillar and Cutlass.

    As for the flight model, you've got over rated thrusters for the ship size when unloaded, it's no surprise it fly's snappy when unladen, you've got a truck's performance in something the size of a motorbike, however extended and loaded up with dead weight, it will soon bog down when cargo is attached don't you worry.
    i dont blame people for not understanding this inherently as it's prettymuch a space unique problem but tiny ships moving large objects is a thing in alot of space games, where as even unloaded a large cargo ship or truck still has alot of size mass and bulk to deal with as it's overbuilt to handle the shock loading of the cargo it transports, you can't just strap a cargo container to the side of a jet ski and expect there to be no problems, that's essentially what you're doing here, it's efficient as hell and only really possible because space, the only way to go even further would be to plug a cargo box into a drive unit, and literally have it fly around like a drone itself by ai

    • @mesasone2280
      @mesasone2280 2 роки тому +3

      It’s not a space unique problem though. You see similar things with cargo trucks as well. There are racing leagues for semis (both track and rally) and they are way faster than you would typically expect.

    • @logicalChimp

      Yup- when CIG finally make mass impage handling (especially cargo mass), the flight model for a lot of ships is going to have to change... and unless CIG add artificial 'limiters', some of the fastest ships in the game will be the cargo haulers.
      Note that this also - potentially - works well for piracy... because dumping some cargo (and gaining a performance boost in return) works for both the hauler - trying to escape - and the pirate, who gets some cargo for minimal effort / risk.
      That said, artificial limiters will be required, because unlike modern Semis etc, which rely on gearboxes geared for torque (and thus inherently limited in top speed), the thrust-curve for a thruster is unrelated to its speed, and the only relevant equation is 'A = F/M'.
      As such, expect some heavy-handed artificial restrictions from CIG, to try and keep each ship in the place where they want it (ie no racing cargo ships), rather than trying to set ships up 'properly', and relying on the physics to sort things out 'realistically'.

    • @Power5
      @Power5 2 роки тому

      because ships do not have mass still. It is faked. Any cargo is not physical yet so weighs nothing. Cargo refactor is supposedly coming in 3.18. So we will see what happens when the new physical cargo is put in game.

Another thing is the second cargo hold ... how do the SCU containers fit through the small access door to the main cargo hold? But the overall hull is sound. One could add 4 passenger seats in the second cargo hold, swap out two of the bunk beds and install a small kitchen area with a small table and two seats. Make it a bit more liveable.

      freelancer and constellation series are some of the oldest models in game. They will get their gold pass eventually, but CIG cannot rework every ship each time they implement a new ship design technique, and they are much more interested in selling new ship concepts. I am glad most of my ships are new ships. Tana being my oldest from 2019. Inferno was recent but being my only ship without an interior, it doesn't matter about light switches and refrigerators and stuff. Corsair will be coming soon so will be the most up to date DRAKE ship out there. I mean it is the first new DRAKE ship to come along in many years. Now we may be getting a bunch of DRAKE shortly. I think the Weapons Locker makes sense, cause out of all the ships. Which is most likely to be attacked and boarded? The Haulers with Cargo. And other ships like the Freelance have very big and scary guns. But this ship is mostly harmless. So Pirates can easily come in and Board the Ship. And the Crew, You, will most likely be Defending the Ship yourself, with your own weapons. And thus need a locker to store those weapons.

  • @ExtraWeirdable
    @ExtraWeirdable 2 роки тому

    Cargo will probably impact its maneuverability. Extending the cargo area would not. The ship has a set mass which doesn’t change when extended or retracted, so it should fly just as nimble or maybe even more nimble with the extension out because the gimbaled thrusters are further apart increasing rotational potential. When you add cargo it all gets heavier so more thrust is needed to change the mass+velocity.
    Expect the ship to be able to point its nose where you want it to go, but at a high velocity it will not have much supporting power to the maneuvering thrusters to compensate the forward thrust of the main engine holding your current direction for longer amounts of time. When going at cruise speeds you should be able to point the nose somewhere but having the actual directional change be slightly delayed. At higher speeds you probably want to try and fly the ship in straight lines and while moving in one direction point your nose to the direction you want to go in and full boost that way to make that your new straight line.
    Fuel efficiency will be a factor to take into account because it affects how profitable your haul is, you wanna decouple as much as possible and turn and burn to come to full stops. Like a space truck should.
    I can see this being a beauty to fly and now I am sad that I don’t have one. Would rather have the B or C though, they sound more challenging but all the more profitable.

    thx for the first view; the interiors do look very detailed and sufficient; even a bit too elaborate for such a "small" vessel; coming to the only rly critique, you saying the Hull A "holds a significant amount of cargo", which it just doesn't with currently 48, imo; it holds only a couple more SCU than a cutty black and coming back to the elaborate interior, it just won't be used ingame for long hauls, due to cargo size limitations; as a rolegamer in rl, I do appreciate the place it holds in the verse as a "single person trucker" vehicle, for a trader, always just scraping by in his/her Hull A doing any job coming available; then the full kitchen/shower setup seems apropiate, but ingame I guess it won't get much traction, especially, since the Hull B is still reasonably priced and holds (for now^^) 384 SCU; but thx again for the detailed first view, very interesting!

    • @logicalChimp
      @logicalChimp 2 роки тому +1

      Compared to equivalent sized ships, it contains a significant amount of cargo (note that 'significant amount' doesn't have to mean 'significantly more than any other ship)... and it's not meant for bulk haulage between systems - that would be what its bigger brethren are for.
      Separately, don't forget that NPCs will be using the same ships that we do - so expect to see a lot of these flying around - whether by players or NPCs - especially for 'local' cargo transfers (when a Hull E comes in and drops off multiple-hundred / thousand crates, gonna need a lot of smaller haulers to then deliver those crates to their final destination).

People will say plan things out, but there will always be mistakes. It is like CIG is splitting shipping up into two segments. Carry more but hard to unload, and easy to unload but carries less. Not really... there's no difference between 'crates' and 'cargo'... rather, based on what CIG have said in the past, the difference will be between 'trading' (buying stuff yourself, with the intent to sell for a profit elsewhere), and 'hauling' (being paid a fixed price to carry someone elses stuff). Plus larger ships will focus on routes between space stations (and rarely / never going down to the planet surface laden), whilst smaller ships will either do high-speed high-value runs, or 'local' stuff between planets and stations.

      @@logicalChimp i was more going off that we know there is the whole cargo rework soon, but those sorts of containers require a area for loading and unloading for example a ship yards, so i just see them more like the big container ships irl, where as the ships that can load boxes can do so with forklifs so would be more like lorries which would suit the more going down to outposts

    The thrusters need to be adjusted for all ships in 3.17 PTU. The C2 flies right now like it has no mass, so the Hull A being nibble (like you mention) will change. I'm waiting on my Hull C also

    I cant wait for CIG to start reworking the old ships. Starfarer, 600i and alike really need a rework. CIG learned a lot over the years so Im sure all those SC Oldtimers will be enhanced once CIG decides to put some time and effort into them once again.

    I am not sure it should fly badly. It is a tiny ship and has thruster strength necessary for being fully loaded. When empty it is the size of an aurora, so it should not fly any worse, and without cargo, I would actually say it should fly better than an aurora.
    Wiash they were bringing them in alphabetically so the B would be next, but looks like I will be waiting for my hauler till next year probably. All that is on the tracker is VCA team at end of year for concept art.

    I think you should separate the ship into anatomical systems, like a human anatomy... that way you can customize ships more simply and maintain logic/immersion.
    Like a fuselage would be one, a powerplant another, then weapons systems connect to that, as do navigation and AI systems, life support, hydraulics, food?
    Etc.
    And there are many many different logical technologies that fall within each of those categories....
    So no 2 ships would be the same...

    I have the hull A but it's extremely slow trying to get out of Atmospheres. At best, climbing out of Microtech takes forever. Max speed is about 100knots and takes at least 7-10 minutes to clear the atmos.

    I am curious about how the cargo gets loaded without the cargo refractor, will the spindle magically open with the cargo attached to it?

      In the ICS Videos the grid is loaded with basic 1SCU boxes instead of containers

    • @logicalChimp
      @logicalChimp 2 роки тому

      Iirc CIG have said that, pending the cargo refactor, the cargo plates will work the same as the interior cargo grids on ships currently - when you buy from a trade terminal, stuff will just 'magically appear' on the cargo grid. And yes, I expect that will cause the ship to expand and unfold the cargo plates when you start to buy cargo.

    I am really getting excited to try out my Hull A once the PU patch drops. The MISC design comes out really well and if it costs and claims like a starter the Hull could pretty much become one of my to go ships for non combat evenings.

    Now here's the question, why is this better than a freelancer? Freelancer has 2 size 2 shields and 4 size 3 guns and a turret, and can carry the same amount of cargo. This ship has 1 size 1 shield,2 small guns and no turret. The cargo is also stored externally. The only advantage here is load and unload speed, but will that matter if you need an escort? Not sure i get this one honestly, since the freelancer max is also a thing and the argo raft, the hull a is kinda underwhelming. If the raft had held 1 more 32scu container putting it at 138 scu, and the hull a holding 1 more 16scu container putting it at 80scu i think this would have made more sense. It remains to be seen how much loading and unloading will affect us though so we will see.

      100% i would take the lancer every time the in game cost better be half the cost of the lancer to even think about using it.
      This thing needs 100 SCU
