Thanks for thorough video. My girlfriend's bought this vehicle, and I've also suggested she not wait until the vehicle says to do an oil change. Especially the first change. The nice thing about this vehicle is that many miles are driven on battery when the engine is off, so the engine mileage is less than the vehicle mileage. I've exceeded 48 mpg numerous times... an engineering marvel.
I own a 2024 Hybrid CR-V and had the first (break in) oil change done by the dealer at 800 miles. They reset the maintenance as I expected and now almost 6,500 miles later the oil life is still showing 50%. Here's the problem. This car came with 2 years/24,000 miles of included maintenance from Honda, but the dealer will only do the free service if the maintenance minder is at 15% oil life or less. Since I refuse to wait for 7,000 - 8,000 miles between oil changes, I am fixing to change my own oil this time, but I WILL NOT reset my service reminder. I'll let the dealer do the next one for free. For this reason, I cringed a bit when I saw you reset the maintenance reminder. Nice video.
I have the same situation on a 2023 CRV Hybrid that had its 2nd oil change at 8500 miles. The car now has 17,800 miles but the dealer will not do the next free oil change until 15% oil life left. My car is saying I have 40% oil life remaining. So I went ahead and did my own oil change with Synthetic 0w20 but did not swap the filter out. I will wait until I am at 15%. I did not reset the computer. My guess is it will take another 3,000 miles for it to drop to 15%
Excellent video and descriptions! Glad you prefer to change your oil earlier for the break in period. I’ve always recommended that for those who plan to keep their vehicle.
Maybe already mentioned, but to run the engine you can just turn the HVAC temp to high and it’ll start right up. Little less hassle than putting in maintenance mode.
That'll take even longer cause the HVAC will just run off battery until it drains. Fastest way is to just drive out around a bit, and maintenance mode isn't too hard imo.
@ If you turn the HVAC on high temp, it won’t run off the battery at all. The engine will start immediately, and heat the car, without driving around, or switching to maintenance mode.
Nice video - very thorough. I'm considering a 2024 CRV and wondering if I can still DIY some basic maintenance. This makes it look pretty straightforward!
Hi thank you very much for your video. Its very helpful for me specifically im new for hybrid honda crv. Can you also make a video for changing air filter like cabin and the one that outside filter please. And sir I have a question like can I put a wheel lug locks for 2025 crv hybrid? Because I notice they dont put a wheel lug locks. Thank you very much. I hope you read my comments. 🙏😭❤️
Good video. I have this exact model and color of CR-V. I've already changed the oil myself before watching this video and it was very easy. I'm hoping you will do a video on changing the rear end fluid for the AWD in the future. I just subscribed and will keep an eye out for it.
I already did mine. Super super easy, you will need a filler pump, but if you do it yourself, you're looking at about 40 dollars max, I used 4 Jacks to lift the car up
I just went to do my 20k mile oil change on my 2024. I did a 15K at an oil service place because I was on vacation at that point. I found my 4 quarter-turn fasteners missing, and my oil drain plug was impacted in way past spec. and no crush washer. 😡 Also, if you don't have the convenience of a lift, this CRV has the weirdest place jack point.. have to go in from the side.
Hello, thank you for the video. I have a huge question. So everytime I changed the oil on my CRV Hybrid, I actually have to put exactly 5 quarts. I use ramps to just lift the front of the vehicle. My question is, does more oil drain because of the position the car is in?
You should ALWAYS measure oil while the vehicle is on a level surface. That is probably in your owner's manual. Never on the ramps. Once you put in just under 4 quarts, you can back off the ramps and do final filing.
@ijdad99 , Of course I check the oil on a level floor. You misread the comment. The comment is about the actual draining process. More oil comes out of the engine when only the front is lifted. Hope this explains what I'm trying to say.
@@freedomislife5887 You are correct. I read it wrong. I do that a lot. My girlfriend says I don't read all the words. The drain plug is near the back, so you'd think it would drain fully. I was able to just jack the car up about 5 inches and still get everything done. The tire was still firmly on the ground. Just needed some wiggle room.
Anyone know where the transmission fill plug is on these vehicles? Seems like a big mystery for Honda to exclude this from owner maintenance, instead tells you to go to the dealer.
Good day - just so you know I didn't yet reply to your first reply. My apologies but this car hasn't got the mileage yet to do the transmission. The generation is so new there probably aren't too many that have needed it and thus featured in UA-cam. Honda Service data should have a guide. I know prior CVTs weren't too bad to do but I do not know right now what is involved in doing the eCVT with the Hybrids. I would definitely recommend consulting the Honda Service data - link to their site in this videos description.
Just wondering why the dealership mentioned nothing about doing an early oil change on our new Hybrid CRV. As a matter of fact, they said they won't change it (on the free oil changes deal) until the 15% light comes on around 7,000. We are at 4,xxx now. How bad have I screwed up?
I would not stress over that. Honda programs the maintenance minders keeping everything in mind. Doing the change as early as I did is an old school mentality and probably not needed. An early first oil change is not part of Hondas official maintenance minders or recommendations - I certainly could have waited. Also being a hybrid the engine is not running all the time so it has less engine run time on the mileage compared to a comparable gas-only engine. While I still prefer earlier oil changes, you are doing better than many by sticking to Hondas maintenance minder, and having records of it changed at the dealer one-time will protect the warranty. If you're really aggressive on it you can pay for an earlier change but to get the bundled maintenance for free so long as it's before or at the maintenance intervals you should be good
What an annoying process to enter maintenance mode. I'd honestly just rather drive the car around the block. Feels like a cheat code from an old video game.
Break-in oil change is the most important service of any engines life, especially turbo charged. The machining process can sometimes leave behind micro metals that can lead to premature engine wear or failure. This is why Toyota is recalling all of their Tundra motors. The owners who performed break-in services probably won't have engine failure. It's not a waste of money, it's very intelligent!
Your not wrong if your leasing or not planning on keeping it. For us whom keep their vehicles it's right on. I went to 2500 on 1st, a little long. Then I change the oil filter and top off at about 1/2 the recommended mileage or when oil gets dirty. Dealership hits it at every 7500. That oil stays pretty clean. I send in the oil to check it. The levels are always better than my race 347 in our 67 Mustang, our race 632 in our 79 Chevrolet k2500, or our stroked 318 in or 82 Chrysler new yorker...of course those are not as tight a motor or need a zero weight oil. Close on the 632...0W50. Lol
There's definitely lots of debate on first oil change interval for break in. I didn't really get into that here...but I actually did this change earlier than I originally planned. I had a V12 Jag that needed "a tad bit of work" so I knew it would be living on the lift for a few months 😂 Basically this was the last chance to get the change sequence filmed and not wait until the oil was past due where I'd prefer it. But break in changes are definitely a tangent/rabbit hole on their own. In my eyes, it's cheap insurance and protection for the invested cost in the vehicle.

I like the paint mixing container idea, but I will add or use a liter mark and count to four.
great thanks for the primer on my upcoming first 2024 crv oil change - wasnt aware of the gravel cover and crush washer to be replaced thanks!!
You can also turn on the heat on the HVAC system to force the engine on.
That was good and easy to understand. I have learn two things today.Thank you

Is this the exact same for the 2025 hybrid crv sport-l?

I brought mine in at 5k and dealer changed for free at 6 months 😊
Same with mine; I went ahead and changed it myself at 5K. Didn't reset the MM, of course. Dealer did the "first" change at 10K when the MM said 5%
Or just take 6.4 oz out of the big container and just fill from rhe big container... thanks for the video.
what is the tightening torque for hybrid CRV wheel bolts??
From Hondas service data:
Wheel Nuts: 108 N·m (80 lbf·ft)
@@VortexGarage thanks bro
Nobody can show about transmission fluid 2023 change
Just do it yourself. It’s a transmission. Unless you’re a child, why do you need someone to teach you
It's a simply drain and fill with overflow plug.

Some time I drive one time over 2000 miles
You should wear gloves
Wasting money changing oil at 1500 miles.
Nope , it's smart to get break-in out . Filter doesn't catch it all

Honda changed mine free at 3300 miles, 10% oil life. 24 CRV Sport Touring.
