Good job bro! Try balancing the volume of each limb. Keep in mind that the parts that should mantain the groove are the ride in the first place and hihat in second place. Try softening the comping with the left hand and if you find an idea that u like that lasts like a measure or two, repeat it! Don't vary that much, that way you will keep the pocket and rythmic variations will have a lot more power. Listen to philly joe jones and max roach and to the way the use comping phrases. You're doing great! It's always nice to add jazz to the routine.
Awesome! Thanks for the advice! I really appreciate the feedback
Get it!
good stuff
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it
Sounds good man
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Great work 👍🏻
Thank you!
Nice! Would love to hear it with brushes
I’ve done even less work with brushes than I have with just standard playing but I do plan to work on that too and will get some stuff up
not bad 👏🏻
Thanks! I appreciate it
I would try to soften the left hand a little
Yeah that's definitely a challenge for me. Being that I've always played a lot of gospel and rock music, I have a heavy left hand lol!
@@CDIngallsMusic you want to view the way you balance the voices of the kit different for jazz. Snare and Kick should not be louder than the ride when comping unless it's an intended accent/bomb.
@@CDIngallsMusic maybe you just gotta keep the sticks lower or hot harder with the right maybe try polyrhythms but one hand is louder than the other
@@ErikTeichmannDrums for sure. I’ll have to keep an ear out for that next time I sit down to practice. There’s also the possibility that the microphone in my phone mostly picked up the hi hat And snare because they’re closest. I’ll have to try again with better audio to check if I’m really out of balance with my limbs or not. Thank you for the insight!
