    Your comment about the throttle is spot on. The weight will change as it refuels. So even if you get the throttle perfect. The plane will seem to slow slightly after a few seconds and start to drop. Your initial instinct will be to use the stick to correct. If you are not constantly working the throttle with small movements, you risk pilot induced oscillation, because the throttle is arguably more important than the stick.

    Regarding curves: The F-16C actually applies curvature to the flight stick, as does the real plane. Those are context relevant: With the refueling door open, the roll and pitch of the aircraft are actually much more curved than with refueling doors closed. The Viper is actually the only module that I own where I don't apply user curves, because the aircraft does that for you.
    Regarding Trim: Can't touch this (du-du-du-dun)! You've seen a few times in this video what that leads to: When letting go of the stick you'll climb, descend, go to the left or right, etc. The only reason for you to touch the trim is to eliminate deviations from level flight that the aircraft gets into. You don't use it to move the jet around, at all. Consider it an anti-movement device, instead of a more precise stick movement.
    Regarding Autopilot: Can't touch this (du-du-du-dun)! Don't use that in formation flying, ever! It teaches bad habits and makes the plane sluggish. Some people somewhere suggested (in different modules) to actually use the A/P for refueling. Only use A/P to establish orbits for heads-down work or to fly particularly steady as flight lead.
    I personally fly one full refuel cycle with 3 voluntary disconnections, backing off, and reconnections, for any of the modules that I'm current at at the moment. As well as a carrier landing (Hornet, Harrier) and/or 5-10 minutes hovering (Helis, Harrier) for the modules where that's applicable. That takes about 30 minutes of my time and limits the modules I'm currently flying to something realistic (currently the F-16 and F-18, as well as the A-10C as a 'passive' back burner).
    The first week of drogue refueling was absolute hell, even though I was current with a 80% no-disconnect rate on the Viper. And multiplayer is another thing, especially when you're low on fuel or you feel the others in the flight silently judging you.

      RE: The fly by wire applying the curves. Yes, but the curve you set for your joystick only applies to your virtual hand on the virtual joystick. We need the ability to switch between different curves on the fly within the sim to match what the aircraft is doing.

    Nice job froogle, more practice and you'll be as solid as a brick under there.

    Aren't there lights underneath the tanker that you should be paying attention to as well while refueling? I believe they also help you to remain aligned.

    I don’t use curves on my hotas warthog, i can refuel both planes i have, the mirage and the A-10C, the most difficult is to try to not be over controlling

    The F-16 is the easiest AAR. Of course I’m in VR though. You just pull up and watch the lights. The boom operator does all the work. I have an 8 inch extension, so in the F16 I have to put a negative in the curve.

    This is VERY hard, I got the hang of tanking the Hornet and JF-17 but the F16 is difficult for me, feels like the FBW works against me instead of helping me.

    Hello, my nephew downloaded the stable version of dcs 2.5.5 and the keybind for the included su25 and mustang works but when it comes to f16 and f18 none of the keybind works, He also have a separate keybind for each plane, any idea? Thanks.

    I have DCS World installed, but haven't really gotten into it (yet), but I have a Quick Q - once you connect to the boom, does the airplane seem to "stabilize" some or is there no change in handling? I ask because real world pilots I've talked to say that the boom actually helps stabilize the airplane once connected, so while the initial hookup can be very tricky, once you're on, you should be able to relax somewhat.

    • @GeFlixes
      @GeFlixes 4 роки тому

      There's no change in handling characteristics. However, the boom itself is guided by a boom operator. That's what the little wings on each side are for. So as a pilot, you slide into position in a predetermined space at the tanker, and the boom operator flies the boom into the refueling door. In DCS, you'll need to steady the aircraft for a few seconds for this - after that, the system is actually really tolerant of changes in all directions, provided you don't exceed the boom limits. Which means you'll need to fly very precise for about 5 seconds and then can relax, as you describe.
      Boom refueling such like in the F-18 is much more tricky because you need to be more precise the whole time. Especially turns or high winds on a slow tanker are absolute hell.

    • @ComdrStew
      @ComdrStew 4 роки тому

      No it doesn’t stabilize you. I have heard this also with A10 Pilots.

    Hello Froogle. Are you going to cover the DCS world free month? They are giving the game with many aircrafts for a month for free. It should be whole package but without missions for one month.

    • @Mustang242Sqn
      @Mustang242Sqn 4 роки тому

      I think he's doing Eagle Dynamics a small disservice by not shouting about their fantastic promotional period, though I appreciate Thrustmaster needed to get the biggest mention on this one. It may have also been pre-recorded, before the free month was announced.
      @Everyone, get out there and fly all* the DCS modules you can fit on your hard drives!!! :D (*except the Tomcat and Viggen)

    • @Izmael1310

      Yes but it ends on 4 weeks but still plenty of fun there :) I'm thinking if I should go for direct version from them or version on steam.

    • @Mustang242Sqn
      @Mustang242Sqn 4 роки тому

      @@Izmael1310 Definitely go direct. The offers and sales are more flexible and often last longer than on Steam, plus you can earn points for discounts on later purchases in ED's store. And it means more money goes direct to ED. Updates get released sooner too, I believe.
      I love Steam, but I like to keep my sims independent of it, if I can :)

    The stick movement looks "clunky". I was so extremely disappointed with the clunky motion of the old F16 Cougar HOTAS... that I'd never buy one of these sticks for fear of the same thing.

    • @nvstewart
      @nvstewart 4 роки тому

      That was the annoying thing with the warthog, and that huge detent, that is why with that stick while flying in formation it was best to fly it out of trim. The Virpil joystick I have is 1000x better than the warthog base, I still use the warthog stick on the Virpil base. It's silky smooth, very high accuracy and can fly in formation no problem without even touching the axis curves.
      And I also don't even know how froogle can fly so badly with those exaggerated curves he has setup, they are way too overkill, just like his lack of finesse in his hand.
