I had one of these and it got to about four and a half inches in diameter and I had it in a bowl type tank for 2 small gold fish. It worked really well. And the moss ball definitely outlived the fish lol. I ended up keeping the tank for a while just to house the moss ball but it ended up dying on me :( I think it's because I didn't know I had to stir the water... I think the fish swimming around we're doing that for me lmao. Now that I know I have to stir the water every once in a while, I might try one of these again. I love the green color and they are so cool because, unlike most things in an aquarium, You can actually get them out and hold them and that made me really happy cuz they're so soft. Lol.
Thank you for posting this. I'm going to order some moss balls now :3

My solution for keeping them cool is to place them by the AC in the warmer months. I've been doing this for a year now, and it's seemed to work!

Can you train them? : ) Actually I have a half dozen of them in my fish tank and was worried about running them under the tap to refresh them. They get a little cloggy with fishfood. Mine have turned rather brown and it was interesting to hear about the light causing that. Useful video!!

    • @HarliG

Yes! They filter chemicals from the water, I'm sure the plants would love it!

Great question @prosie1968 😊 I would never have thought of that. I would have just poured the water down the sink. This will definitely keep me on track for changing the Mario's water since I can use it to water my other plant babies. 😊😊

@@bonniewylie3287 Just try not to let brown algae get into them. Once it's there, it's a pain to get off. I'm fixing to try to get the cyanobacteria off of them but I can't use any chemical treatments since they should also kill the moss ball. I can tell you how that goes tomorrow. They're hardy suckers and very tolerant of mistakes. They're the one thing I haven't killed yet (and I've killed a cactus by not watering it enough... Whoops! )

Have you came across any zebra mussels on your marimo balls? Because Wyoming just band them because they said that they're messing up the water systems. Another state banned them to and Colorado might be next. I asked this question because I just read all of this in an article. And wanted more information about it before I purchase one

Honestly I don't see the problem. The lake they're naturally found in is about 55°F and my ambient water temp is in the 70's. Adding an ice cube like every 8 hours or just once a day would help lower the temperature. According to the lady, you can put them in the fridge overnight so why not an icecube or two a day? She said it'd make them greener and I want a small little tank just for them. Icecubes sounds like a good way to keep them happy.
