I have marimo in my aquarium, it’s not in ball form though. I’ve got it growing on up the side of a log, it’s growing very quick for marimo moss and extremely thick and green! It’s been about 3 months and it’s probably doubled in thickness!

I had one of these and it got to about four and a half inches in diameter and I had it in a bowl type tank for 2 small gold fish. It worked really well. And the moss ball definitely outlived the fish lol. I ended up keeping the tank for a while just to house the moss ball but it ended up dying on me :( I think it's because I didn't know I had to stir the water... I think the fish swimming around we're doing that for me lmao. Now that I know I have to stir the water every once in a while, I might try one of these again. I love the green color and they are so cool because, unlike most things in an aquarium, You can actually get them out and hold them and that made me really happy cuz they're so soft. Lol. Thank you for posting this. I'm going to order some moss balls now :3

Yes I do have the marimo Moss balls I've had them for 2 years I just cut two or three of them in half to propagate more of them as experiment because I had three of them in total,They are doing pretty good, I did do the method where you take the palm of your hands and roll them together to help keep its shape it seems to be working..
I just put some small aquatic snails that i found in a local pond into my moss ball bowl. two days later and i have never seen the bowl this clean. they dont seem to touch the moss ball tho
I just bought three and set up a tank for them :) I used water dechlorinator to rinse off the gravel for the bottom because of rock dust then I emptied it out and used rain water for them :)

Sorry, a quick question - my marimos are in a jar, and the water tends to get kinda dirty about every 10-14 days - like there's a brownish organic sediment on the bottom. I always clean it up when i change the water, but it just keeps returning. I wonder it that's normal?
Can you train them? : ) Actually I have a half dozen of them in my fish tank and was worried about running them under the tap to refresh them. They get a little cloggy with fishfood. Mine have turned rather brown and it was interesting to hear about the light causing that. Useful video!!

@@bonniewylie3287 Just try not to let brown algae get into them. Once it's there, it's a pain to get off. I'm fixing to try to get the cyanobacteria off of them but I can't use any chemical treatments since they should also kill the moss ball. I can tell you how that goes tomorrow. They're hardy suckers and very tolerant of mistakes. They're the one thing I haven't killed yet (and I've killed a cactus by not watering it enough... Whoops! )
Have you came across any zebra mussels on your marimo balls? Because Wyoming just band them because they said that they're messing up the water systems. Another state banned them to and Colorado might be next. I asked this question because I just read all of this in an article. And wanted more information about it before I purchase one

Honestly I don't see the problem. The lake they're naturally found in is about 55°F and my ambient water temp is in the 70's. Adding an ice cube like every 8 hours or just once a day would help lower the temperature. According to the lady, you can put them in the fridge overnight so why not an icecube or two a day? She said it'd make them greener and I want a small little tank just for them. Icecubes sounds like a good way to keep them happy.
Actually I have moss balls and I do put bunch of ice everyday especially in these summer days. It make them greener and I change their water with cold water every week so yeah you can use ice
I have a few and a few others just grew, super tiny lol. and as for fish tanks, I have them in all of mine and the fish ignore them, shrimps eat some of the dying algae, and they always seem comfortable around them.

My solution for keeping them cool is to place them by the AC in the warmer months. I've been doing this for a year now, and it's seemed to work!

I have had them in brackish water and they live just fine, and did multiply nicely.
