    Hey Goodezilla, build looks sweet. As far as I know timing belts have an odd number of teeth so they don’t consistently line up with the pulleys, this is meant to even out the wear across the belt and pulley 👍 good work on the Zilla, keep it up. I’m slowing catching up with all the progress you’ve made. I’ll be looking for a Zilla of my own very soon l, just need to finish the RX7 build first.

    • @Goodezilla
      @Goodezilla  6 років тому

      Thank you man! Yeah the timing belt marks only line up when installed and eventually every so often after a bunch of rotations :) Good luck with your build and good luck finding a Zilla of your own too!

  • @AMIN206r15
    @AMIN206r15 3 роки тому

    I noticed a little play on crank gear when I first tried to turn the crank after timing belt installation .when I watched your video again I noticed you also have that little play that results the crank pulley mark to be off a little (at least in my case)and I guess it’s because belt doesn’t have that much tension at the first to turn the cam gears so after that tension made they will turn but crank pulley is a little off. Did this also happen to you?
    Also in the manual it says lose the tensioner nut then turn the crank 2 times then tight the nut ... and I guess that’s because when you first turn the crank the belt on the idler side will be tighten and creat that tension force but the belt on the tensioner side will be loser so after 2 turn you can tighten up the tensioner nut so it won’t go lose.
    Cause I think after you turned the crank the belt on the tensioner side was a little lose .

    • @Goodezilla
      @Goodezilla  3 роки тому

      The tensioner is there to put natural tension on the belt, you don't want to put added tension. You'll have a whining timing belt if you do. You rotate the engine over twice to make sure the cams and crank still line up with their TDC marks and then tighten the tensioner to keep the "natural" tension on the belt. There is a little play if you're rotating the crank forwards and backwards...but as long as it all lines up very close, mine has been fine after a couple times taking the belt off and on. Check out my newest video of the PRP Trigger Kit install and you'll see the part where I put the timing belt back on again...maybe a little insight there to your question. ua-cam.com/video/LiCAjLninBA/v-deo.html

    So the tensioner is supposed to be kept in its resting position and then tightened? I added slightly more tension to the belt thinking it was necessary and I’ve had this chirping sound. I thought it was probably my HKS belt just being make from Kevlar.

    • @Goodezilla
      @Goodezilla  Рік тому

      Yes, from what I understand is you only want the natural tension of the tensioner in its resting place so that your belt doesn't whine. I'm not sure what you mean by chirping, is it just at startup or a constant sound?

    • @BourneThisWay
      @BourneThisWay Рік тому

      @@Goodezilla it’s a constant sound, but only under 2000rpm in first gear and idle. I guess it is a whine.

    Question for you
    I have a 1991 r32 manual 2.5 de, it will not start now, hsporned about a week ago. The starter motor ticks over nicely and I can hear the pistons turning but there seems to be no compression!
    Cam belt is intact etc, havnt taken the sparks out to check them yet.
    Any quick ideas?

    • @Goodezilla
      @Goodezilla  2 роки тому

      If the engine cranks over but doesn't start then it's usually either spark or fuel that isn't happening. Check your plugs and make sure they are getting spark. Also check to make sure your fuel pump is priming and working. If those are good then it could be a bad cam sensor or bad coil ignitor if no spark is happening (if it's like the Rb26, I don't know if it is or not)

    Hey man, love your vids. Very helpful. I am running kelford 280’s in my rb25. I just ordered tomei adjustable cam gears. Will I have to degree the cams to the cam gears according to kelfords specs? How does that work

    • @Goodezilla
      @Goodezilla  5 років тому +1

      Hey man, thank you. From what I know degreeing the cams is only doable with adjustable cam gears. Basically you'd find how much out of spec the machining is in the cam and adjust it to where it is supposed to be according to the manufacturer with the gears.
