The movie didnt put the message accross right bc ppl think "oh but the actors were so pretty" which isnt the point, they're not supposed to actually be ugly, they just have to THINK they're ugly which gives the government control
The books are way better than this so called movie. Who worked on this movie just only took the basic idea of the books, without however understanding their meaning, which touched on issues such as the distorted image that young people, especially pre-adolescents, have of themselves or the fact that society demands certain unattainable beauty criteria, both from girls and boys.

Idk anything about the book but this entire idea would actually be interesting if it was about trans people. They have Laverne Cox there already. They could keep the whole pretty transformation thing but have it be limited to their assigned sex. Males get transformed into the ideal man and females the ideal woman. But the movie focuses on a group of transgender and nonbinary people who are like. Trying to change the system?
