And the solution is just..."let's totally lift the barrier and let everyone out!" I'm sorry, but what???? Some of the villains were there for murder, genocide, and being creepy towards kids. Like leave them there. Or at least establish an actual criminal justice system first. Also the third movie started with Hades almost like killing Mal to open the barrier and they're all just like, "nah, but that's her dad, it's all good". Like, I get letting all the kids off, but they're really just pardoning ALL the villains? All of them? Even those who had committed or planned on committing mass murder? Like...???
My #1 gripe with descendants is how Mal just has no motivations beyond Ben. Accepting being VKs, advocating for other VLs - that was all Evie. Mal's motivations after the 1st movie were just about being good enough for Ben and his family. She easily acquiesced to the plan to close the barrier and leave behind the VKs for good, all in the name of "being a good queen" which just means being good enough for Auradon.
