- Episode 11: Smoke the Grass...type Gym
Our hero has managed to collect the Silph Scope, which we can use the complete the rest of the Pokémon Tower quest and see what's causing all of the ruckus. When that's all done, we can finally take the time to challenge the next Gym Leader, Erika.
Elliot apologizing on behalf of the crude jokes made in the videos
Elliot: We're sorry
(Petting a dog) We're sorry
(Playing mortal kombat) Sorry....
How fitting that Marowak's new Alolan form is a Ghost Type.
And Fire type.
That old man...
"This gym is great! It's full of women!"
0_0
Side note: Golbat's goofy ass tongue actually appears in the stadium games, which means that it returns in the GameCube titles, at Gen. 3.
Nup...tup?
ProJared did a Nuzlocke of Leaf Green (or Fire Red don't really remember,) and he had a OP Vileplume named Nuptup.
PixelPerfect Plays Ah, thanks. Need to look that up at one point.
SomecallmeJohnny It's not worth it. To get a good understanding you would need to watch a lot of his episodes of the nuzlocke and the end isn't all that impressive. It just has a lot of hype to it.
radonstone
He didn't even finish the game he still had the Sevii Islands and the rematch with the Elite 4 to do.
radonstone The nuzlocke challenge ends with the champion...the Sevii islands are optional side quests in case you wanna get Mewtwo
Matt : Apparently Mr.Fuji knows teleportation
John : Yeah
That's NOT how you do it John xD
Actually, Matt, while the game shows "super-effective" and "not very effective" when one type's weakness is negated by the other type's resistance, the damage itself is still "neutral"; in Pokémon Stadium, the neutrality is evident, as you can Thunderbolt Zapdos and see it take normal damage.
As for Charizard, Fire took neutral damage from Ice in Gen I, and that's why Charizard is destroyed by Blizzard in that generation.
Matt did bring a good point about the cool trainers in Gen 3, especially (if u know what I'm talking about) the ones in Norman's Gym in Sapphire which we're annoying to take care of. Thankfully I did not have a as bad a problem eliminating them, but they still annoying. Well, abusing heal Items anyway.
4:40
I love Elliots obvious "Microsoft Sam" voice reference here
Matt: "Mr. Fuji here apparently knows Teleportation."
John: "Yeah."
Ahh I see what you did there, John. Even if you didn't mean to do it, it was still hilarious to me.
Oh damn, I didn't even realize that. :P
SomecallmeJohnny Hahahaha!
SomecallmeJohnny Force of habit at this point, eh? Can't say that I blame ya.
I..... don't get it?
VulxaniSolas "Teleportation, yeah!"
My reaction to the thumbnail:NUPTUP,DESTROYER OF WORLDS
If you guys watched Projared's nuzlocke you'll know what I mean
I am praying he finds oddish on the route its on in x and y
YES
ALL HAIL NUPTUP!!!
Nuptup is all powerful and has never been defeated.
Having not played Stadium before, I just Googled "mud slap gif"
Much laughter ensued!!!
4:12 this was kinda funny for me because I have a Drowzee in Pokemon Gold & Silver that I named Elliot.
I'm gonna guess John doesn't get the Nuptup Destroyer of Worlds reference. But anyway, ALL HAIL NUPTUP!
"Don't try to justify it, that joke fuckin sucked". That blunt line made me laugh more than it should have.
Oh......god.
Dat Golbat sprite. 'Nuff said.
Mega hitmonchan would be awesome elliot! Id love that maybe in the future!
Actully gym leaders apply at the pokemon league and are tested by a member of the elite four to see if their worth becoming one
It has not exactly been made clear how Gym Leaders attain their position, but it appears that it varies for each Gym. Some of them founded their Gym and are self-appointed; others, such as Whitney, are chosen by the other members of the region's Pokémon League. A few appear to be passed on through families: Janine, Falkner, and Flannery all take over their respective Gyms from a close family member. However, Gyms do not necessarily belong to a particular family; Roark and his father Byron are both Gym Leaders at the same time, in different Gyms. Leaders can also choose to vacate their position; examples include Koga, Giovanni, and Wallace.
I always thought that beauties looked like they practiced the oldest profession.
I looked up the mudslap gif...I was rolling for a few minutes before I could catch my breath.
18:03 Erika sent out Fuzzy Meatloaf.
Well, in the Manga, Red tries to become a Gym Leader in the Gold/Silver saga, the requirements for becoming one is completing a challenge of defeating X amount of Pokemon without a single faint, in order to prove your strength.
I never knew about the Jesse and James thing until Matt said it.
And for reference, I've watched Pokemon since it first aired on YTV.
Oh boy. Can't wait for next episode, where John and the guys storm Silph Co. I was never able to get through that one area....stupid structure of building....
I was born in 97, but I still saw every episode of Pokemon on tape.
Nice job defeating Tamashii John!
If you always see Vileplume, Nuptup WILL be mentioned.
This is a great series SGB! Also Mankey/Primeape is my favorite Pokemon
I agree next to team Plasma Flare is my favorite evil team so far,
Butch and Cassidy are named after an outlaw too. Guess it's a running gag.
Haha I see What you did there
I think the idea with Erika being sleepy is that she has narcolepsy. Of course, being a Grass Gym Leader, the pothead jokes just write themselves. Hitmonchan also got a lot more useful in Gen 4 where the elemental punches became physical attacks and he gained the ability Iron Fist, making them stronger. Gen 5 boosted the power of Drain Punch, making it a fairly reliable recovery move for him, and Gen 6 now has Power-Up Punch. I think things have been looking up for Hitmonchan. Can't say the same for Heracross, tough.
12:27
Last time I try to drink something while watching SGB.
XD
When I faced Erika's gym, I had a Doduo with fly to evade the Powders, wraps, and the draining moves. He was pretty much a two-headed flying shadow that none of them saw coming.
The Jessie James thing became a running theme for naming the bad guys: Butch and Cassidy, Attila and Hun
I did see the anime, but I never played the games Red, Blue, Yellow, Sliver, Gold, and Crystal when I was a kid. But luckily I was able to get Soul Sliver 3 years ago, really good game I must say. Its been a long time since I last seen season 1 of Pokemon, thanks for making me old too T^T
12:27. Matt you are both evil and hilarious at the same time!
No growlithe in this adventure, then? Darn, guess I'll have to make my own LP featuring it. Eventually.
To be fair, Rocketeers is a term used in chapter 16, tauros the tyrant, of pokemon adventures. Green said it.
John, i'm disappointed you didn't use the almighty Jolteon.
Wait a minute, I was reading that dialog, "Aren't you a peeping tom?"
it ended with a question mark so really that sounds more suggestive
Also there was a theory on gym leaders that they inspire the towns people, now if you went with that theory, then the dialog of "I choose to fight who ever I want." really saids that the town would kick the gym leader out since if the gym leader is selective, that would be the elite 4 would kick them out because there will be no champions at all since no trainers would be coming, as a result no one would fight for the championship
@1:26 Oh noes, MissingN--oh wait it's just Marowak....
Actually I found some of the Gym Leaders quite challenging in Pokemon when I was playing Y since they had higher level than my Pokemon. Also my starter was Chespin.
When I was playing W2 last year, I found the the Gym Leaders in that game pretty easy and my starter was Snivy. However, I planned my Pokemon team in that game than I did with Pokemon Y since I traded over good items and Pokemon for that game.
John, thank you for using a fire stone on your eevee to make a flareon. I love flareons, they're so cute.
OH MY GOD. Jessie and James. Jessie James, I never made that connection. I've been watching/playing Pokemon sense Red and Blue. I'm a fucking dipshit.
Yeah Matt, Jesse James and Butch Cassidy. I got the joke years ago.
No nuptup nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Speakin of the anime Im up to Adventure on the Orange Islands
you know as team rocket and we fight for what is wrong we're tired of our motto so we thought we'd try a song
man i had to search golem in pokemon stadium 2 suing mud slap it is a nasty sight lol
Wait, if a gym isn't owned by the leader...explain Gen 5. Ex: Eliza's gym is a fashion runway, Clay runs a mining op in his gym, Roxie's gym is a rock concert club. I'm sure they own those gyms. Gen 6 might be better here. Viola has a photo gallery right above the gym, Grant has rock-climbing walls for practice in his, Korrina's is a giant skate park, Ramos's is a garden he tends. I think the only place that isn't owned in that Gen is Clemont's Gym since that's Prism Tower (aka not Eiffel Tower).
They could be renting the building and have free reign to design it as they wish.
The building might be owned by the Pokemon League, the gym leader just runs it and looks after it.
Okoa What about Brock? Didn't his family own/run the Rock/Ground gym in the anime continuity?
*****
I dunno if they actually owned the building since they all live just down the street from it. There was even a special episode where a Nurse Joy affiliated with the Pokemon League I think threatened to shut down the Pewter gym if it wasn't being regulated properly. I guess it's kinda like the health department and how they can shut down restaurants if they're not safe.
Huh, it's been a while since I've seen pokemon but I keep thinking that Brock's father had owned the building
woo zero punctuation reference
I find it funny how people alawys say it is hard to find a Cubone in the pokemon tower because I ran into five striat in a row. X)
12:55 No, it just has stubble on its heads.
Still don't know what it is besides the south park episode. Matt acts like it happened to him before, so he must know more
FLAREON!, oh Jonny thank you
Hey johnny, not sure if this goes for gen 1, but in gen3 firered/leafgreen you can get the flamethrower tm at the rocket game corner early with enough coins, its TM35 for 4000 coins. Use that for Flareon if its possible in gen1.(Like i said I'm not sure its the same for gen 1, haven't touched gen 1 in forever)
At least Johnny decided to raise Flareon instead of Growlithe. Also I think that he should have a Jynx in his party instead of Kadabra b/c Kadabra can't evolve unless you via trade it with somebody.
I would honestly like to see Primeape return to the series it quite literally was around for like 2 episodes XD seriously ash i sometimes feel is just dumb considering he lets his best go all the darn time
He releases all his strong Pokemon and then wonders why he never wins the League.
Fucking dumbass.
Lol, Matt. I few days ago I actually tried looking up an Exectutive Exeggute/Exeggutor, sadly, couldn't find it
Its strange that Cubone is a "Ghost" in Pokemon Tower (even if you don't have the Silph Scope) despite the fact that it isn't a Ghost-Type.
Well, maybe it's a rare Ghost/Ground type variation.
Fire didn't resist ice in Gen 1.
I’ve heard in the anime that Erika actually banned Ash from the gym for insulting perfume.
He got in by cross dressing, if I remember correctly.
@@rockyandyipper Yeah, but was caught, then convinced her to do a gym battle.
I miss the original anime
Gastly is haunting me... I'm trying to hatch a shiny Gastly in Y. I've spent the last 12 hours of the game trying. If this game had colour, the Gastly that appeared before Marowak probably would have been shiny.
Wow Matt did not know the Jessie James reference with team rocket?
the lavender town episode on pokemon the origin was really fucking sad.
GHOSTS DON'T DIE!
you know now that I look at vilplumes gen one sprite carefully its just a mew sprite colored black and its head is replaced with the huge flower while they draw a face on its belly
YESSSS FLAREON
I find it intresting how in gen 6 I literaly steam roll trough EVERYTHING With only 1 pokemon.. Lucario.
You can steamroll the champion's team with a solitary Gardevoir
I got through Gen 2 with only the starter Pokemon (I've done this with all 3).
ok so they are palm seeds, matt... but which one?... dates or coconuts?
Can't Flareon learn Body Slam via TM? Or was the TM given to Skulkraken the only one in the game?
It was. A shame...
Zubatman!!
Hey, are you guys going to do Arkham City? I'd love to see it
"that's the only f*ing time u see golbez ever long tong ever again" well that explains the helmet but this isn't ff4
you maybe cool, cool trainer but you'll never be as cool as tentacool
VilePume isn't Erikas ace. It's both Victrebeel and Vileplume because they are at the same level. just becuase she sends out Vileplume last doesn't it mean that itäs her ace.
Calfuso if i sent out a an alakazam, and a mewtwo both at level 50, common sense says my ace in the whole isnt the shittier pokemon
DIO! Of course you would send a psychic type. What's next? A Pokemon that looks like The World?
I'm sure it's obvious at this point but some of these trainers have the stupidest reasons for starting battles with Red. Do the reasons get more ridiculous in later games?
I wonder when they will do gen2
was the emulator trick johnny talking the one i brought up.
Pause at exactly 23:43
nothing
WHERE'S SUBSPACE EMISSARY?!?!?!
Dont worry Matt, I just gkt the Jesse James thing also ;_;
Same for Butch and Cassidy
Lunaris Rogue well someone likes their western outlaws.
What was that about Jesse and James at 2:47?
I swear these are the worst polices I have ever seen xD
wheres SSBB did they run out cus they can't meet up O-o
I found the three finger
my little brother eatched the old anime
Might I ask what Matt is saying at 2:46
thats not true jhonny brock gym also part of his home same for misty. abd other gym leaders
Nuptup
Three finger? What?
what did matt say at 2:47?
17:20 Actually, some females CAN have testicular cancer...and testicles. It's called Atypical/Ambiguous Genitalia, if I recall correctly. Don't quote me on that, though, I might be wrong, it's been a while since I read up on it.
does anyone know if Red of Blue are in X or Y?
I'm guessing you can't fight him then? That sucks... :(
Yamask from Gen 5 was born from the soul of a dead human. Translation: Humans are Pokemon!
Also, f*ck the new UA-cam comments format! I actually have to use Google Chrome to comment! I honestly don't know if there is anything really wrong with Chrome, but why do I have to download a new browser just to comment?
Erika uses Tangela. I've seen enough hentai to know where this is going.
And speaking of, you want Trainer logic? Gen 2, just before Azalea Town, there's a Hiker you can rematch. Here's the thing: he has a Machop that evolves into a Machamp...and then into a Machoke. In the same game. He somehow de-evolves his Pokemon. What. The. F*ck.
Does anyone else think Erica could be a lesbian
RIP headphone users.
12:51 YOU WA SHOCK
120th!
