40 episodes later and i'm mentally reliving my favorite part of episode 60: Fjord screaming 'help me' from behind his shield while a snapping turtle tries to munch him.
It is absolutely the best part of this show.

Interesting note, when Critical Role came back to Twitch with this episode, the number of people watching the live broadcast far exceeded the full capacity of Wembley Stadium. Just imagine a crowd of that size laughing and enjoying along with you as you watch :)

After becoming intruiged with your question I did some research. The average decible for a loud singer is roughly 85-90 dbs. So take in the fact not every one is a professional singer and isn't trying to blow out their lungs make it 75 dbs. Multiply that by Wembley capacity of 90,000 and the stadium would be roughly reaching 125 decibles total. Which is as loud as a major rock concert. Which in turn would be able to possibly be heard over a mile (roughly 1.5 km) away during mid-day, possibly even further at night.

There's a pretty big stadium about 2km away from my house, when it hosted games at full capacity I could hear the chanting.

A passage from Expositor Beauregard’s note book and encyclopedia.
Dragon Turtles most certainly exist. I have seen one. It moved at speeds comparable to the ship I was on (The Ball Eater (EDIT: it’s a long story (EDIT:see chapter on “Pirates, First Mates, and Nautical Nonsense”))) approximately 4-8 Knots and exactly 40ish feet wide. A whirlpool spell will briefly slow one down. Polymorph (as it does on most unstoppable foes) works very well.
Our cleric on the ship (Jester) used a sending spell to communicate with it. It said that “I take what I want” and “I don’t need a mate”.
There’s probably no way to defeat one of these creatures aside from massive amounts of force (EDIT:which we totally could have (EDIT:see chapter “Hey We’re Gods”) done but didn’t feel like risking the lives of our crew) or a fast ship. You may be wondering why it mentioned its sex life. Well, it wasn’t exactly unprompted (see chapter “The Traveler, Tiny Penises, and Jester” to clear up confusion). Perhaps all Dragon Turtles share this temperament or perhaps this one simply wasn’t hugged as a child and never got to play ball with the other children. I suspect it was incredibly lonely (and horny).

Fun fact, this was probably the only way they could've possibly conversed with it, as Dragon Turtles actually have their own unique language (some speak Draconic but not all, they actually literally speak "Dragon turtle" as their primary language). But Sending is cool enough that it just dodges that!

There is a lot of jokes on Marius but in sailor scale he is pretty badass. Went to pirate hq fought pirates, elder gods worshippers, a fuckin dragon turtle, he was there when the dynasty and the empire signed peace. In any dockyard inn he would be a legend.
For how much the crew makes fun of him you just know they'd drop gems to revivify him.
Remember how he got dragged into all this in the first place and is making the best of it whereas he could have just got the hell out first time they docked on a safer place.
I love the idea that when they're in port, Marious is the coolest dude in every bar, regaling everyone with his unbelievable stories that turn out to be true every time.
And the Mighty Nein still makes fun of him at every turn.

@@wouldiwasshookspeared4087 NPC mechanics often aren't quite the same as PC mechanics. Orly was probably just a cr 2-3 bard themed NPC statblock. Doesn't have access to bardic inspiration like a PC would. DMs can't realistically track and run every single NPC as a PC. And honestly even if you could, you really shouldn't since NPC/monster stats are fundamentally built differently than PCs.

What's great is that, we know that the true reason for this is just Travis using the hiatus to work on the sailing mechanics but in-universe, it gives the impression that now that he's no longer pretending to be someone he isn't, he trusts his own guts more and is able to take decisive actions.

Sam's poem was actually gorgeous. The line "though we sit by ourselves we don't feel alone" really got me because it applies not only to them in the studio together, but to all of us. Even watching this for the first time two years later, that line means a lot to me.

Every time the cleric in my d&d group casts Toll the Dead she can't help putting on the Jester voice for it to the point that in our campaign saying "Toll ze Dead" in a Jester accent is now the verbal component of that spell. I'm playing a warlock in that campaign but so far I have resisted saying "Eldritch Blast" in either a Texan or a Caleb accent.

Watching this in the future, you can see the energy change from 99 to 100. Their energy in this episode is SOOO excited and electric, almost child-like, and it is so nice to see them so happy and eagerly doing what they love with their friends again after being cooped up for months. Ugh, I just love them so much.

By the end of the campaign, the Mighty Nein might accidentally make a second Chroma Conclave with how many dragons that will be justifiably pissed off at them/will be actively chasing them. Granted, the Dragon Turtle was chasing them, but they still fired the first shot.

@ajs1031 I'm hoping for a gold dragon. The werebears mentioned Vokodo loves gems and would like the tiny Traveler statue and gold dragons like too incorporate gems into their diet and appreciate artistic stuff. The whole mist thing could be the regional effect of a gold dragon's lair, a mist that warns people of evil in the area. But I do get the feeling Vokodo might be their next BBEG so guesses like a red dragon, beholder, or some type of evil elemental could be more likely.

A guy that stalked you since you were a little girl that you thought were a god but when you learn he's not you're just gonna pretend to the most people possible that he is and ask them to join on a volcano island you know nothing about possibly sailing on the territory of a dragon turtle and making an event in a lush jungle full of danger, claiming the place as your own within a week's time, after fucking up with the signs that are very potentially landmarks that allow locals to come back *alive* to their place ? Absolutely fine !
I mean I didn't catch up yet, maybe the locals are harvester of dooms for an old forgotten god feeding on people's memory but *still* I'm not as creeped so far.
Imagine if you will:
A fishing boat in the ocean casts their nets and pulls a haul of fish aboard. They bring the fish to market. The butcher takes his knife and cuts the head off of a fish, and suddenly it expands into a 40-foot dragon turtle!
Well that would be absolutely hilarious if polymorph lasted longer than an hour

“I missed this…” whispered by Liam is so heartwarming.
To people who don’t know, there was a 4 month-long hiatus because of the pandemic.
Those tears they cried at the beginning when Sam recited his poem were not at all acted. They were sincere, and for this beautiful night- these wonderful friends were finally able to feel a sense of normalcy once more after four months of not being able to.
This is one of the most beautiful moments of the episode for me.

It’s one of the most angering too. Knowing what we know now. That we were kept shut down far too long, while politicians still went out for hair cuts, fancy dinners, and went to Florida to party while their own states were still locked up tight.
Biggest FU to the average citizens that we’ve seen in a while. @@KumaoftheForest I forget where I saw this explained, but the irl arrangement was redone so that the two couples who live together (Laura/Travis and Marisha/Matt) were situated in order next to each other as to minimize possible proximity based contamination. Explains why Laura and Marisha switched "tables" so to speak.
On the other hand, this was 4 hours a week for you...as opposed to taking up pretty much all my free time for the last...6 weeks? @_@

Started binging C2 near the beginning of the pandemic thinking hey, maybe I'll catch up just in time for the new episode. It'd be pretty cool if my vague plan actually works out.
On Thursday I found myself tuning into Twitch for the first time, having just watched episode 99 a few days previously. I felt like fate was allowing me a great triumph as I grinned uncontrollably watching the faces of these people whom I've never met, yet have come to know as dear friends.

In my experience, whenever DMs have extra time to prepare a certain part of the campaign, they always seem to find new ideas/ways to make it more difficult/terrifying. Thus, due to the three-month hiatus, I fully expect the entire island of Rumblecusp to be a horrifying death trap. One that will give all of the players (except maybe Ashley) nightmares and make Travis shit his pants. That being said, I love all of you guys on CritRole and I will hope for your success!

They talked about it on all work no play as well. They are genuinely happy to see each other again and were giddy while even doing the preset up. I love it.
I think it was smart too, probably better not to do any big story stuff while everyone is feeling all weird and rusty, yet giddy

I'm here just to tel Laura, that to not forget about us who appreciates and love her and no actor should get treathened poorly for the actions of the character they play. It's just shamefull to not be able to differentiate between fiction and reality.

15:58 the hilarious thing about "you're perpendicular to the wind, so it is not helping you or harming you" is that in sailing reality that wind is a beam reach, AKA the absolute best wind direction you could hope for on a square rigged ship - the wind squishes the hull of the boat against the surface of the sea and literally yeets the boat forward The nein should have been F1 car racing that ship across the waves LOL

Well they were water skiing at one point so I guess they were moving kind of fast. On a big ship wouldn't it take a lot of crew to take advantage of that? Seems like they only had a few and most of them were manning the cannons.

This is true. When the wind is directly behind you, the aft sails block the wind from the forward sails so you get less speed. You want the wind at an angle that fills all the sails.
DavonddBTBD is correct, too. To sail into the wind, a ship needs to "tack" back and forth in a zigzag pattern in order move forward. It's a struggle, because the wind and waves are shoving the hull backwards somewhat even as the sails are angled to harness the wind and push it forward.
Tosh Omni: Absolutely. On a square-rigged ship with three masts, you'd want at least--I'd guess 30 or so crewmembers to handle them all at once? Preferably more. You could conceivably operate the ship in favorable winds with a dozen, maybe, but they'd have to set and brace (angle) each sail one at a time, and if a storm or obstacle (or dragon turtle) came upon them suddenly, they'd be in a heap of trouble, unable to maneuver very well or strike the sails quickly.
Suggestion for a "cultish phrase" for the traveler. "The joke is on you."

Shannon Bennetts not fully knowing how polymorph works I think it would have drowned, lost the hit points for that form and then BOOM giant dragon turtle again.
Travis has been doing his research on naval combat. I appreciate it , this combat could have been horribly clunky, he made sure it wasn't.

the point is that in future if people complain about waiting for a couple weeks, we can go:"WE HAD TO WAIT 3 MONTHS THAT ONE TIME SHUSH"
Three months for Travis to memorize "Sailing for Idiots" and do a pretty damn good job, for Laura and Liam to no doubt discuss polymorph the whole time and STILL pick a bad target monster (I lost it SO hard when Matt said that the sea turtle was even faster), and the winning strategy, "bravely run away away". I know they're going to see that dragon turtle again, but maybe they at least gave the Balleater a chance to stay in one piece if they can fight it on land, possibly aided by a bunch of Traveler worshippers and a side order of fresh Marius. ("What?" "Neverr you mind".)
