The point about suggesting a volcano is that the suggestion actually was inside the volcano, not just a place with a volcano like Rumblecusp. 3:08:47 Liam asks Laura if she's prepared Cure Wounds, a spell some might argue is "pretty useful" for clerics.
Laura: No.
I love them so much lmao
To be fair... she is a “not much of a cleric” of a “not much of a god”....
She is, however, an AMAZING trickster.. she is utilities, and combat...
Sure isnt the first cleric in a game ive been part of (player and DM) that was focused on things other than basic healing... especially when others have it too
Sams reaction to that also priceless
@@corwyncorey3703 I don't really get it though. She has enough spells she can prepare to at least prep Cure Wounds, the most basic healing spell. At the very least she prepped Healing Words so that if anyone went down, it wasn't all up to Cad and potions to keep people alive. Healing Words is more versatile, but it is so much weaker than Cure Wounds. A real waste out-of-combat. Draining Cad of spell slots so she doesn't have to use that waste when it isn't necessary.
Of course, she does what she wants and I really do love the dynamic and the playful teasing about how she dislikes healing, but I can't say I get the decision XD
dig6394 ...if you get the dynamic and enjoy the teasing and think that Laura can do whatever she wants... then why don’t you get her choice to honestly play her character and not prepare Cure Wounds? Laura’s not playing ‘a cleric’, she’s playing Jester. Seems pretty clear to me...
dig6394 i dont know that i can explain it any better... but it is, as was said above, more about her playing Jester than it us about playing a cleric.
From a gamer standpoint, cure wounds, while useful, isnt exceptionally so. Combat based healing is about how many healed by each spell... how quickly can it be applied.
Again, from a strictly gamer gaming the game concept, cure wounds is the LEAST useful spell a cleric has. Touch range.. one person, full action, at level one healing word is faster, and has better range, and does the same thing... a bandaid.
No healer, even dedicated “all i do is heal” healers can *possibly* keep up with damage during combat.
Period.
Knowing how rp focused these players are... i honestly have NO idea if they ever (or Laura ever) has examined it from a math standpoint, or a pure tactics one.. i would have said they hadnt.. until she outsmarted Matt/the witch/EVERYONE. So maybe she has. Or maybe just playing it for a while has given her the gut feeling every cleric player gets eventually... that they can be more useful in so many OTHER ways.
The cleric spellset, especially for domains like trickster.. so much more utility and combat capability... that cure wounds truly IS a waste.. because it, while being a decent bandaid (better by FAR in the hands of a life domain cleric.. which Jester isnt) it isnt anything more than that.
So many other FAR more useful spells.. and only so many can be readied.
So... assuming that having watched the true agony of decision on her face before.. that “i can kill it.. or i can try to hold back an avalanche with a spade one more round” look you know so well as an avid viewer (a look many clerics would recognize if they had a mirror at the table)...assuming that doesnt convince you why, from a roleplay aspect... it is possible Laura the player, and Jester the tricky as hell character (that outsmarted the universe/Matt at least once) may have done the math.
Forget the trope “clerics need cure wounds” and look with fresh eyes at ALL they can do.. if one is a life cleric, with so many heal bonuses inherent in their build, thats one thing.. but for other domains?
Look at it with fresh eyes.
Maybe it will make more sense.
I absolutely despise the "all clerics can only give healing" stereotype. That is just untrue, plain and simple. Many cleric domains are focused on so much more than pure healing. Forge Domain gets smites for fuck's sake! Clerics have just as much utility and combat prowess as many other classes, and it really bothers me that some players just don't see that.
How is no one talking about how Caleb's mother's name is Una and that's his command word for bringing stuff back from his vault of amber?
