      my only problem with it, the number of skills and talents when leveling up is .. overwhelming ... like you have to spend a lot of time just reading and trying to piece together a good synergy between your talents, and your party ... it's too much! It's a great game though ... I believe the devs could've reduced and reworked the number of talents and skill available for better experience

    Unicorn Overlord is easily the best TRPG this year (at least for me)
    I know you play exclusively on PC
    But if you have access to a Nintendo switch or a PS5 i very strongly recommend you give it a shot

    • @NothingCoherent
      @NothingCoherent 3 дні тому +1

      I'm a diehard TRPG fan, with Ogre Battle 64 being my bread and butter, and I hated Unicorn Overlord. Why? The combat preview...
      It's an awesome game, great mechanics, amazing artwork, everything seems perfect. But then they give you an omnipotent combat preview and you will literally never lose a battle for the entire game even on the hardest difficulty. Sigh. If I could just turn it off Unicorn Overlord might become the best game in the genre. But instead its a zero-challenge slog where you're just going through the motions and not thinking about anything. It was impossible to have fun.
      Forgive my ranting-- I REALLY wanted to like it. Biggest disappointment in years for me.

    • @daemyno
      @daemyno 3 дні тому

      @NothingCoherent I agree, that was my only criticism of the game! It would be much better if there was some "randomness" or unpredictability!
      I still could live with it and it was not a deal breaker for me

      @dannyinthemiddle969 День тому +1

      @@NothingCoherent A simple solution would be to require you to battle a unit 1 time as a sort of scouting or learning mechanic then they can give you a battle preview for that specific unit. Have this apply to every unit and it would have went a long way.

    Out of curiosity looked through the list of games released in 2024, the only games released this year that I actually played:
    V Rising, to play with friends in coop, was fun few weeks.
    Wuthering Waves, F2P so tried it out, quit after couple weeks.
    Zenless Zone Zero, F2P so tried it out, actually still playing.
    Dungeons of Hinterberg, gamepass (got couple free months) and randomly tried, was ok.
    Flintlock, gamepass, bounced off fast.
    Mostly played older games, so if I had to pick a GotY, by process of elimination it would have to be either V Rising or ZZZ. Considering I wouldn't even have played V Rising if I didn't play it with friends, I guess I have to give 2024 GotY to ZZZ, as crazy as it is.
    Playing games 1+ years behind is just so much better experience, cheaper, feature complete and fixed games.

      This channel and the previous retrospective reviews on Dragon Age titles let me enjoy Veilguard a lot more (that and it’s an available for a low entry price on the EA pro pass).
      It is nothing like Origins, but neither was DA2 or DA:I. In comparison to DA:I, the gameplay no longer feels trapped between a wannabe CRPG lite and an action game, it’s now more a Mass Effect action system and works decently well with gear/skill tree modifiers. It skips a lot of the pain and is a more modern DA:I experience.
      I can’t say much on the story/overall world, as I felt it was most compelling and mysterious in DAO and by DA:I was just heroes saving the world, and Veilguard is more of that aspect too, but for where the direction the series has gone it feels like a more streamlined DA:I. As for losing the series as a successor to the great CRPGs, with games like BG3 there is no longer a vacuum that the franchise needs to fill. They’ve decided against it for 3 titles and it’s time to let go and enjoy the other great CRPGs.

    For me, using the gun in Another Crab's Treasure is less "rage winning" and more "I want to experience this game without putting in the time and energy to win the tougher fights". I've got a day job and am a filthy casual so I am happy for this option. Maybe someday I'll go back and try those tough fights again.

      I love Souls games! But I'm a weirdo who finds the boss battles the least enjoyable parts of Souls games. I love the difficulty, I love the dungeons, the puzzles, the exploration. I don't mind dying over and over. But when I see a fog wall, I usually sigh. I can beat the bosses, but some just become tedious. I get the "dopamine rush after trying a dozen times!" thing, but I also have limited time to play games and sometimes I don't want to re-try the same fight 10 times. It takes the air out of the experience for me. I still think the From Souls games are some of the best ever made, but many of the boss battles I just find tiring and tedious.

      I'd never played a Soul-like, got my ass handed to me in Jedi: Fallen Order on Jedi Master🙄Does that even count. But if I can be a crab with a gun, sound awesome!😁

      Honestly I find smashing my head against bosses till I have the patterns down and can beat them to be one of the most rewarding experiences in gaming ever. I mean that goes for all boss types of each genre but a souls like really feels like you earned the ability to kick the bosses ass

    Thanks as Always! Metal Slug Tactics😀I didn't see that coming. TBW was the first tactical game I've ever played and it's one of my favorites of 2024. I still have the Metal Slug demo, I'll check it out right now! I am tempted to pick-up Crab's Treasure - you have heaped such praise on it AND I can use a gun. Here everyone; have a can of worms to open: Exactly how does one find an entry point to the Warhammer (video game) Universe? Specifically on the RPG, RTS, non-hack-and-slash side of things?

    I almost did not want to click on this video because I thought "here we go, another Baldur's Gates 3 glorification, like it has not been done to death" and I was genuinely surprised that you did not mention BG3 once only for my dumb brain to figuring out later that BG3 had been alread released in 2023....
    Nonetheless, overall interesting choices.

    I really adored the Prince of Persia Metroidvania. It's one of the best in that genre. (It's just priced too high for its competition)
    I'd also laud (out of the games I played that came out this year) Pacific Drive, FF7 Rebirth, Crypt Custodian, Pepper Grinder, (came out this year on PSN), Let's Revolution! and Rebel Transmute.
