  • Here is a great beginners guide to bay fishing in Ocean City Maryland. Whether you are new to saltwater fishing or visiting here on vacation and want to give it a try, this video will be perfect for you. My video covers tools to have, hooks, jigs, bait and tips of regulations.
    Jigheads with soft plastics are perfect for striped bass, bluefish, speckled trout and redfish. The hard plastics I went over are good for bluefish, redfish and occasionally a striped bass.
    One of my favorite rods is the Toadfish 3000 combo set up because it holds anything from 15lb test to 30lb test line.

    Enjoying the videos... I anticipate spending a lot of time in OC this spring and summer... your videos are most instrumental especially the shoreline fishing spots videos (I am not bringing the boat or the kayak, so it is going to be shoreline, surf and pier fishing)... going up there tomorrow for a couple of days and am bringing a rod with a plug to see if I can't get a blue fish or striper bite at the 3rd street pier. Maybe it is a bit early, but so be it. Tight lines.

      Always worth a shot to try! Stripers are hitting around the Route 90 Bridge, right now the tautog are biting. If you haven't caught one of those, they fight hard! Good luck, if your fishing friday I'm sure I'll see you out there.

    Thanks Jay! Need a notebook for all that information you just gave. I used to fish with my dad everyday in the summer in the 70’s and the 80’s when we were there on vacation. We loved to fish the old train bridge when you could actually walk out to the end and there was a platform out there. It was sketchy as hell walking out there. Over there at old stinky beach. Then we would fish the bridge at night! I want to get back into it this year! I’ll be down in August for two weeks! You do lesions? 😂 I’ll buy the bait and the lunch!

      That old train bridge must have been quite the spot to fish!! Sounds like a lot of fun, stinky beach is a good spot too! I don't do lessons, maybe run a guide service in the future? Haha who knows!

    Great video thanks - just looking at a boat to purchase for OC - would love a recommendation?

      Boating in OC is either real easy or real hard. It really all depends what you plan to fish for- offshore or in the bay. Offshore I would recommend nothing shorter than a 25'. Inshore the 18' to 21' range seems to be the key. Mine is a 16' but works well for me because I solo fish so it's easier for me to launch by myself. DM me on Instagram if you want to talk more privately.

    Is there a time of day better than others to fish the bay? Thank you for the information planning to go on vacation for a week this summer there!

      Tides play a big part in fishing. Check out my website, I have a fishing forecast on it, www.reeljayb.com The fish are usually more active during tide changes.

    what's the best thing to fish in around the end of August? An where would be the best spots to fish I've never fished in OC an I plan on buying a MD license so I can fish more spots while there!

    • @ReelJayB
      @ReelJayB  2 роки тому +1

      That's a pretty loaded question, but it really all depends on what your trying to fish for. If you are looking to keep/eat your fish, flounder is the way to go. If your looking for action, big bluefish are the best route. Something I would suggest is to try to book a trip on the bay charter boats like Flounder Pounder, Happy Hooker or Tortuga. They will put you on fish and from there you'll know what to do. Good luck!

    Hey thanks for the information I’m located around 80th street with a boat is there anywhere around there that’s good or should I make the boat drive down towards the bridge near the amusement park or that general area

    • @ReelJayB
      @ReelJayB  2 роки тому

      Go towards the bridge. 80th st and up can be tricky because it's shallow. Lots of croaker/skates up that way. Rt 90 bridge is close to you and a decent spot for flounder. Rt 50 bridge is the "hot" spot this time of year.

    Thanks for the good information. I’m new to fishing OC so this was helpful. Any suggestions on where to fish? Reason I ask is I discovered how shallow the area is around Rt 90 bridge and run up to Rt 50 bridge. Is there any good fishing in those areas or do you need to get out to the ocean in your experience? Any suggestions would be welcomed.

    • @ReelJayB
      @ReelJayB  2 роки тому +1

      All of the Bay is pretty shallow. 90 bridge, 50 bridge, the assateague Bridge are good ones. The south jetty is another great spot. Drifting behind the ocean city airport is good for flounder too. There's a lot of good fishing in the bay, you just need to work some spots. I personally don't like to stay at spots long. Either they are biting or they aren't. If they aren't, I always change places.
