This is a quick list for game veterans, so that you can get an idea of what’ new:
There’s new Armor, Weapons and Items. We listed them all on this page on the wiki.
Some items have been renamed. So instead of “Sticky White Stuff” you now find “Sticky White Slime”.
Multiplayer has been changed to up to 6 players.
There is a password option for multiplayer
Omnidirectional Rolling has been added
The game’s camera collision angle has a fix available, or you can play original camera mode
Each weapon type has a unique animation - this is merely cosmetic and does not change the speed of the attacks
Bosses and Enemies may break environmental props - this is merely cosmetic
Music has been re-recorded with an orchestra
There’s a new “Statue of Reflection” in the nexus that you can give 25000 souls to unlock menus for: Customize Character (redo appearance), Seek forgiveness, or enter the Fracture World.
A new “Fractured Mode” is a mirror mode that reverses the map.
Filters for brightness, black and white, and overall color experience are available
There is no 6th Broken Archstone content.
You are likely wondering what is a good path to follow. We have a full Game Progress Route in the wiki, but here’s an overview
Boletarian Palace (1 - 1)
Phalanx Archstone (1 - 2)
Stonefang Tunnel (2 - 1)
Tower of Latria (3 - 1)
Shrine of Storms (4 - 1)
Valley of Defilement (5 - 1)
Armor Spider Archstone (2 - 2)
Flamelurker Archstone (2 - 3)
Fool’s Idol Archstone (3 - 2)
Adjudicator Archstone (4 - 2)
Tower Knight Archstone (1 - 3)
Leechmonger Archstone (5 - 2)
Maneater Archstone (3 - 3)
Old Hero Archstone (4 - 3)
Dirty Colossus Archstone (5 - 3)
Penetrator Archstone (1 - 4)
The World Tendency mechanic of Demon’s Souls determines a world state and triggers several events and NPC questlines. You can view the current status of your tendency by jumping into the Main Menu and select World Tendency. The remake has a clear display of what world is in which state, as well as you character’s own inclination.
Both Character and World Tendencies can either turn white or black, but when you start the game, you will have a neutral tendency for both categories. As you play, your actions will switch your own character alignment (character tendency) as well as the world state (world tendency) based on your actions. Good deeds and killing demon bosses will make it move you toward white and doing bad actions or simply dying in body form will cause your tendency to turn black.
Overall the World and Character Tendency systems are complex and engaging, and if you want to find all the details you can visit our wiki as it has dedicated information on all available tendency events.

Just bought this game on launch and I was very disappointed at first. Never played a souls game and I was at peak rage about an hour in. But after spending about 5 hours on the first level and dying nearly 20 times I beat the first boss and it was one of the most rewarding and satisfying gaming experiences of my life. I understood after that why people play these games.
Welcome to the club.
Nice! Keep fighting on.
This is the make or break for most people. While they are pretty hard games, if you don’t have the patience to literally “get good” then you’ll never be able to enjoy these games.
These games aren’t for everyone, but if they are for you, then you’ll have the most rewarding gaming experiences money can buy, and that’s not over hyping them imo.
Peak rage! That means you’re doing what you’re suppose to
Welcome to the community friend now go play the other games (blood borne being my personal favorite)
1:52 "Make sure to bring fire and blunt"
Everyday 😎☁️
Lmaooo can’t keep a real firekeeper down
Aye
Damn right.
Ahmen
First time playing a souls game, I’ve been on the first level for 6 hours and died countless times. Still having a blast
I can't complete this first level as of yet. First time I died was pretty quickly, second was quite a ways through the level thinking I'm getting good at this but when I died and was dumped back at the start I thought that sucks, but ok, that's how it's played. Now I'm questioning my sanity.. 30+ 'you died's later!! 😂
@@LOOKINVERTED how much have you improved?
@@therealmc3966 Good question, I'm not sure to be frank. Still playing and progressing despite how many times you're having to retrace your steps on each and every level but I've found it's mainly about learning what each npc does and how to circumvent their attacks for the most part. (plus levelling up certain weapons with the Blacksmiths depending on what type of build you're making)
I beat the first level on my first hour of getting this game.
@@edwardb7107 BS
I beat elden ring and thought i was built different so I tried to play this for the first time… i was humbled
Same 😂
Dude!! Same. I played elden ring. That was my first souls game. I was like, “that’s it, I’m a gamer”😂. I then did Bloodborne, which is hard but not as bad as I thought. Then I did Sekiro - that same is hard until it’s not. I just put demons souls in and I feel like I am back a square one
@@Nikimouse311 yeaah to this day never beat sekiro or demon souls💀
Played the game for the first time today and I haven’t got a clue what I’m doing. The game really throws you in the deep end.
Yeah same here. I was like where is the tutorial? Had to watch several videos to understand what's happens when iam dying etc.
I think you just play it.
Hit button, wait for animation to miss much faster enemy, get hit, wait for recovery animation, get hit again, repeat until dead 🤣 oh and you can block but 9/10 times they just bash your shield aside. Still a bloody great game though very pretty!
Same here. For me 80 bucks down the drain. No clue what I'm doing, way way too complicated. Wish it was easier more streamlined as visually it is fucking amazing and I really want to play it. Just not worth the extreme frustration level I'm already feeling just an hour in.
@@petesenn1367 it gets much better after you understand the game mechanic's.
Im a first time player, and I think this is one of the most confusing game's I've witnessed 👀
It sounds complicated until you actually start playing it and you learn as you go. Don’t let it intimidate you
It can sound complicated. But I found its actually one of the easier 'souls' games
Same I had no clue wtf I was doing for like the first 4 hours but now it is starting to click. There seems to be a shit ton of hidden stuff though that I'll probably never get too like taking certain items to a box to get X item. I also started off as a hunter and now I think I'm regretting that lol
@@samcs06 I usually recommend people start off as warrior the first time but that’s ok. Your starter build isn’t that important.
@@jacknelson5891 yea I went into it blind knowing nothing about demon souls. Picked hunter cause I usually do a mix of ranged and close combat. I rarely use the bow now lol
Tip: If your farming souls in the shrine of storms use your fists against the rolling skeletons. It's amazing how fast you take them down.
Get the crushing battle axe from stone mines
Or buy a club from the merchant in 1-1.
I use uchigatana they die in two hits. The red eye skeletons die with two hits of flame toss. I love being OP
You posted this right on time, thank you!!
This is the only guide that I’ve seen that says anything about the jade ornament! Great video!
A great help that i found was after i beat the boss in inner ward, you can keep killing the two tough enemies right outside for souls and unlimited half moon grass!!!
You can send any item you have to stockpile thomas through the Use menu in your inventory when you select an item at any time, making the Ring of Herculean Strength almost completely useless and therefore a waste of a ring slot.
You can also stand over a developer message in the tutorial or at any other message in the overworld left by a dev and select the Help option prompted in the message to access a help menu that explains pretty much any major mechanic the game has, such as dodge/backstep/running attacks, critical hits, enemy resistances, and even world tendency, though some are pretty cryptic and only serve to make you aware that certain things exist within the game instead of telling you what they do.
BEST STARTING CLASS ..BY FAR: Royalty (!) (OP magic AND fast melee with a shield too)
What starting gift should you take?
Royalty is a bad starting class...yes it is easier in the beginning but you will develope bad habits that you will need to break later.
@@thelonelyfan not really, spam magic, dodge, use melee when needed. I stomped every boss in the game without dying once.
@@thelonelyfan thanks for the advice lol I had to learn the hard way
@@robertyoung2814 become overly dependent on it and get wrecked in ng+ and every other souls like game there is. Better to leavn the fundamentals with Barb Class.
Thanks for this guide! Just got a PS5 and this game. Sure was helpful and I'll be checking out your Wiki.
Hey Fextra, just bought this game and as someone whose beaten ever souls game besides this one, this guide is fantastic. Makes sense to me and will help make the first playthrough less frustrating lol
Played dark souls and bloodborne, never played this game though, thanks for this video!
You didn't play Sekiro? Thats the best most optimized game they made after Bloodborne. But Demon Souls is classic lol. Playing right now
@@bebemax95 It had no pvp in it so I knew I might get bored after a couple of replays :((
@@lorenzoagoncillo5671 it's got pvp now tho
kind of glad people like you get to finally experience what started it all. 🥺
Ive never played it either, but beat everything else 1000x. I stay confused af 😐
I've been using the fextralife wiki since dark souls 1
Thanks man
That was a great vid man
Really useful tips Fextralife rocks 🤙
Thank you Fextra!
this game came with my ps5 and I have no Idea what im doing lol
I got this game today and I'm scared to even start 🤣
I've had this game since launch and I barely started it up right now. I'm on the pick a class section and thought maybe I should watch something to guide me.
I'm not sure changing the name from 'sticky white stuff' to 'sticky white slime' is much of an improvement.
Actually, it makes it worse, because 'stuff' is kinda vague, whereas 'slime' confirms that it is a viscous fluid.
I just call it Semen.
@@flouserschird Simple man, I like it
@@flouserschird I prefer sticky cum
Just what I'm looking for even though I probably won't be able to get a PS5 until they figure out a way to get rid of scalpers buying them up, but still. Hopefully you'll put some good builds up for this game.
There will be some on Black Friday.
Yup, next year for me, don’t need to be stress out looking for one.
Stay strong guys, don't pay the ridiculous prices scalpers are asking for PS5's, if you do, then you are part of the problem.
The second week walmart had another day for stocking the Ps5's, i managed to get one. I confirmed everything, checked my shipping which was a few moments or 1 minute. I went back to the walmart stock page and they still had stock for 2-refresh page moments, then on the third refresh, they went out of stock. So for whatever reason, that day must have been easier to somehow get one.... ! maybe not a lot of people knew or there was just a lot of available stock that day?
You can still try to keep up on articles posting restock days and times and get one without using a scalper; i do not know why people keep thinking that scalpers ruined everything; just keep trying walmart, target, or PS Direct website
Keep trying bruv, u will get one
Thank you!
So helpful
By far the hardest game I’ve ever played just got it today and want to jump off the bridges in the game
**BloodBorne enters the chat**
@@VentureForward *DS2 also enters the chat*
@@VentureForward bloodborne was easier for me because of rally, boy is it good
After getting used to Bloodborne this was different and helpful
Haven’t played this game in YEARS I told people about this game when dark souls was big and people thought I saying it wrong “dark souls, demon souls” when I heard they remade this game I was beatific.! Now I have a ps5 replaying an old game gives such a nostalgic feeling 🥲 time to die over and over 🍻
...the fact that the xanthous crown jiggles when you move is a nice detail but also a very strange one as well.
First time playing this game and holy crap is it complicated. It's quite overwhelming at first.
Skill issue
Beat all the soulsborne games, and this one is the hardest for me so far!
I wish I hadn't watched all the footage before playing it. Now I know what half the bosses look like.
The enjoyment of this game isn't in the bosses. It's in the levels themselves and the exploration.
Was in NG+ before I realized Item Burden and Equipment Burden were two different things 😄
Even with the beginners guides this games a complete mystery to me.
I used your videos for Elden Ring, which was my first souls and now I've found these for Demon's Souls. I know these are older videos of yours, but you make great content man. I've subbed and will check out some of your newer stuff as well
Thought this was a beginners guide! Might as well of been in Japanese. So confused...I suck at all demon souls type games. But love them so much. This demon souls remake is absolutely amazing and made me pause my progress on elden ring
There's a written version if you're struggling to keep up. It has links to all the terms and things used. We also have an extensive wiki that covers everything about the game, including builds to make it easymode! demonssouls.wiki.fextralife.com/Demons+Souls+Wiki
@@Fextralife what's best way to advance in ps3 version? Combat is tough.
That was a fine note
Thank you for making this. I really want to get this game, but the renowned ultra challenging difficulty is putting me off. I’m not an experienced gamer and I think I’ll be out of my depth with this.
I'm curious; did you ever get the game?
Just get the game u pansy, it will be more rewarding when you learn it
The difficulty of Souls games are one of the most overblown things in gaming.
I play all my games on easy, I never play “hard” games. However once I tried Dark Souls I’ve never went back.
Once you learn how these games work and behave it’s actually pretty normal difficulty wise, and at times they can even be laughable easy if your knowledge is high enough.
7:21 This wiki article now links back to your video, lol.
How funny lol
tip number one: find a way to beg, borrow, or steal a ps5.
tip number two: if you want to avoid dying in human form=which shifts world tendency towards black. Simply return to the nexus and fall to your death there. Nexus death by fall doesn't affect tendencies.
@@ksarcturis276 this was the very first advice a friend and demons souls veteran offered up!
I know I’m being stupid… but I want to use the winged spear how do I tell what stats I need to upgrade in order to equip it?? Can’t seem to compare the weapon to my own stats to find out or even view the requirements of the weapon
Me:*platinums Demon's Souls Remake*
UA-cam:*recommends this video*
Me: well, this could be interesting.
Can you change the button layout? I like the style of these games but I couldn't play bloodborbe bc of the attack button layout. I like the nioh layout much better but I couldn't find a way to swap those on ps4 hoping ps5 is different
I wanna get this game whenever I’ll be able to get my hands on a PS5 but Ik on the fence cuz the game is very challenging 😭 and I get mad fast
great video this game has been fucking me for days
Can’t wait to play next year when I buy the PS5.
Just started this game and all I gotta say is those parry-riposte animations though....
They renamed the red hot demon's soul to the burning demon soul
What do you guys think about magic faith builds? I was thinking of doing one with Large sword of moonlight.
It's definitely viable. Just grab the talisman of beasts and your job is done.
Turns the game into easy mode especially when you have health regen too
I’ve never played a dark soul or dark soul type game in my life but I’m interested.
Same I’m scared to spend 70 on it
@@austinkeyser3373 It'll be worth it. If you don't know if you'll like it, play Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne first. Souls games feel really really hard at first.
@@themelancholia started bloodborne liked it than kept dying on the bridge with the 2 werewolf dog things and having to redo the entire mission is kinda bung
You gotta know whether it’s something you acc want to get into because the start is brutal. My first souls game was bloodborne and it took me like 4 hours wondering around and dying constantly before I even manage to fight my way to the cleric beast but once you get the hang of it it’s relatively simple and it gets more interesting as you play through. The start is the hardest part, trust aha
@@GoochGravy yea ima keep trying I definitely like the setting of them
Can I use the items o got with the deluxe edition on a new game build that I used in my 1st save ?
You can use them on all characters
Oh my god I just wanna play this game, but my PlayStation has been in the same sorting center 20 miles from my house since Friday!
*Sending expeditious vibes*
someone is "sorting" it into their own pockets :D
I'm so terrible at this game but I want to keep playing. Just got to the Tower Knight and am raging but can't put it down.
Solo souls farming is always a matter of visiting the Shrine of Storms; barring some strange nerf in the remake. The further you can get the better: skeletons in the first area, the first reaper in the second area, or the flying creatures in the third area. E.g. it was easy to get the 20,000 souls or whatever was needed for 99 Fresh Spice from the merchant woman in 3-1.
Does delevelling return the souls you spent on those levels? The guide doesn’t mention this
No
This video will be useful in a couple months lol
You can send items from your inventory to storage
I didn’t understand a thing. I will get this game and see how’s it goes.
Hey how do I back stab and do the animations?
What relic do you choose when you start
the sixth archestone dlc incoming with from soft's blessing?
Lets hope or even better Miyazaki's hands on it.
@1:31 - Searing - not red hot Demon Soul - for Blacksmith Ed - in Demon's Souls on PS5
Could have explained what seek forgiveness does from the statue. Especially since it takes so many souls to get!
I assume it brings you to neutral from black world tendency
@@christopheryanez thanks
So I found some dragons did I go the right way? In the first area
I can't even figure out where to go after the first death. Guess i beat the game
How do you respec? I thought the remake had a system at the statue or is that aesthetics only?
demonssouls.wiki.fextralife.com/Delevel:+How+to+re-spec+in+Demon's+Souls - So far I have not found the re-spec the developers mentioned so you can only delevel.
I messed up and picked knight as a starter.
So you recommend using shields through out the game? I’ve always roll in other souls games ;(
rolling is good here too,

Hey guys I just started playing this game in ps5, I’ve never really played a souls game before and I’m really excited to play more. So far I’ve just kept dying in the beginning lol, anyone got any tips ?
08:12 Didn't see that headdress coming. haha, what is that?!
This is more like an intermediate guide idk shit he’s talking about and I’m a beginner
Lmao shoutout to IncredibleAnus @ 8:36
Tried to find your Wiki page and couldn't. Would you please give me a link as a beginner I'm sure this would help out tremendously. Haven't played video games since the mid 90's.

This game is a Masterpiece. Bluepoint are masters at Visuals. Detail everywhere. I've been stopping and staring at shit. Lol
having a hard time with bloodbourne (still didn't fight any boss lmao), I think I will play demon souls first and then go back to bloodborne. I love the designs and art of these souls games but damn they're so difficult... I ain't asking for an easy mode though, difficulty is part of the magic of these games.
Best weapon for royalty class
New to this game, and really struggling with not being able to save the game, get so far into a level then die , back to the start again and again , any tips on how to not let this make me stop playing ? Thanks
The game saves constantly, what you are losing is your progress inside a level. My advise is to take it slow and steady, make a mage build (we have builds on the channel and the wiki) and follow the game progress route: demonssouls.wiki.fextralife.com/Game+Progress+Route You can watch the videos to get an idea of how to go through a level. Once you get the hand of it you will have fun :D
8:33 Delightful name
I cant just got it i hope theres still plenty of people online
Played the game first time yesterday,I liked it but kept dying on first level and thought this game is to hard and I’m bad but seeing in the comments I’m not the only one.Ima give it another go
Sticky white stuff. Nice
The only way I get anywhere is with the cheat death glitch. I REALLY hope they don’t patch it!
Lol in the review on this channel you guys state that the Camera is still broken and the different options do not fix it. Here you state the opposite 🤔
Wait theres a new one, just watched a video about shit im missing out on lol.
Just beat dark souls remastered, beat sekiro and blood borne, and this feels like the hardest yet
Have you finished the game since posting this comment? If you're still stuck or confused I'm pretty knowledgeable with this game. I could definitely assist you.
@@Poetic_Justice92 well thanks friend! Yes Ive finished it 😁 def my favorite Ps5 exclusive so far
@@know1827 Awesome! Well done friend! Out of all the Souls games I've played and beaten this one is definitely one of my favorites. I've only been able to play the original though. Haven't got my hands on a PS5 yet so I'll stick to my PS3 version until then.
@@Poetic_Justice92 thanks! I went halfway through ds3 a few years back as my first game and rage quit haha. Def plan on retrying that before elden ring comes out. But got lucky with the PS5 as my gf wasn't working at the time so kept track of when they were being sold at certain retailers and after a month i finally got one. Hope your able to get one soon!
I'm genuinely confused about the invasion limit. I see the description at the bottom, does it mean I'm turning on or off invasions? Or something else
Normally multiplayer is limited to a Soul Level range based on the level of the host. Turning the limit off for invaders means you could be Soul Level 20 and get invaded by a Soul Level 712 player(if I'm remembering the max level cap).
@@XoRandomGuyoX Ok cool! Thank you so much! I understand now
I gave Ed the red hot demon soul and I still can’t forge anything. Am I missing something or does anybody know how to fix it. I started a new character because of it and now it’s doing it again.
Like forging boss weapons and stuff? You need a +7 weapon most of the time.
So I can't leave a summon sign when in body form only when Im in souls form?
Yes
Anybody know how to get your first spell and where the spell vendor is in the nexus? I have the miracle guy and I’m over level 10 in Magic I just can’t seem to find the spell vendor or any info online to help
I need this too

Glad im not a new player. And played demon souls tons of time cant wait to play this remake
Dark Souls is a much better entry to the series, Demon Souls mechanics are confusing as hell.
@@MadOrange644 Well it was the original souls game so it definitely wasn't gonna be as polished as their later games.
It's intimidating but I'm slowly getting better. I'd be improving a lot faster tho if the game didn't keep crashing...
Only played bloodborne , this is my first Time trying this game tonight . After 1 hour ...well i think i need some tips . Thx
Make sure you check out the wiki, particularly about World Tendency!
I don't understand how I'm supposed to upgrade? I've killed two bosses and I don't know how to update my weapon or armor. Or even repair my items? How do I get back to the nexus? Im guessing that's where I upgrade?

So that’s who I died to! Some bastard invaded me and I had no idea what it meant so I just carried on. Next thing I knew I got stabbed in the back and died. I thought it was like some rare encounter or something
I got used to DS3, BB, DS1, Elden ring way of development. I don't say Demon is something utterly different, but I am demoralised playing this game initially. I don't know what's going on. This video only slightly gave me some clues. Is this be another SEKIRO like surrender for me? Im gathering courage now. 😂
How do you cast spells in this game? I learned two spells and have one equipped but it's not letting me use it. Am I missing something?
Catalyst bro.
You can only cast spells if you have a catalyst equipped, and if you have attuned / memorized the spells so they are showing up on your spell slots on the bottom left of the screen.
Appreciate the video but as a beginner to souls games in general, a lot of this goes right over my head. Next time I'd love to see something more basic that breaks things down a little more for true beginners like myself.
Bless you dude, I'll try to give you 1 or 2 tips when starting.
Generally a lot of players choose the Royal Class when they start, they start at level 1 but that's actually not a bad thing as it gives you a lot more freedom in what you can put your soul levels into when you build them. The Royal Class also starts with a 2 very powerful items that allow you to cast magic and regenerate MP from the very start of the game (NOTE: No matter which class you pick you will never be locked out of the weapons or stats of the other classes as class only determines your starting stats and items). They have access to Soul Arrow a spell that acts like a projectile and can deal with enemies while being at close range. However in general Magic itself has so many spells that the utility it offers is valuable throughout the whole game.
Another thing I'll recommend as soon as you can, is to buy a Heater Shield from the dude in the Nexus, reason being it reduces all physical damage you take to zero which is very good for the first shield in the game. I'll note that using certain items require stats to be wielded, these are usually adjusted via your soul levels.
There's a couple of other handy items in the first area of the castle but generally speaking this ^ is what you want to know for the start of the game. I'll also say play this one at your own pace, as rushing through levels can get you killed quite easily.
@@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective Thank you for the info, I really appreciate it!
@@LPPanther No worries bud :) Last piece of advice I'll give you generally speaking dodging is much better than blocking. Don't worry at all about heavy armour, as long as you've got a shield and the freedom to move you should be fine. Good luck :) and I hope you enjoy the game mate.
@@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective Phalanx defeated. Thanks man. I'm on my way now!
I’m in the same boat. First time playing a souls game and I haven’t the foggiest what’s going on. Talk about throwing you in the deep end.
im here because I died countless times on the first level despite having played 50 hours of elden ring
