    I have noticed in frequency response graphs and subjective listening tests that there's a mid-frequency dip in almost all (if not all) Adam monitors. Adam A4V manual also acknowledges that, stating that this dip is caused by the port organ-pipe resonance and it's a trade-off between two conflicting characteristics.
    The quote from the manual:
    "A very narrow dip at 1 kHz is caused by the port organ-pipe resonance. This type of dip is commonly seen in many loudspeaker designs, including the previous AX Series. There are ways to remove it but, as with everything in loudspeaker design, it is a trade-off between conflicting performance features. The acoustical cost of removing the resonance is increased wind noise due to higher turbulence in the port. Listening tests have shown the port resonance to be inaudible in most listening environments as the resonance has such a short decay. This is illustrated in the waterfall plot further down."
    What are your thoughts on this, guys? In my experience, when I had A5Xs it was quite difficult for me to make mixes translate well to other speakers and/or listening environments. After switching to Yamaha HS7, which do not have that dip (in fact its mid frequencies are slightly pushed forward, so the exact opposite of Adam) this problem disappeared altogether.

    I have the A77H's in my studio also, got them last summer, and they are AWESOME. The clarity and detail is incredible, and the imaging is so precise I can tell where things are panned at 1 o''clock or 2 o'clock instantly. I agree ADAM has significantly improved the sound with this generation of monitors. To me these are futrue proof over others in this class with the ability to put the tuning of your room direclty onto the speakers via Sonarworks ID Reference. NO more need to run the SW plug-In system wide or in the DAW.

      HI! Can you hear a slight hiss from the tweeter? I do hear it from 5 or even 7 feet from mine, it"s like a white noise, and level of hiss arises with rising volume control at the back, and drops with lower volume. Nothing connected to speaker. Could you be so kind to check, does your pair hisses to?

    I have been sold on Adam's A series when I saw the late great Rupert Neve use A77X's to test his 5088 consoles. The only other monitors I use are a 30 year old pair of Yamaha NS10M studios (the horizontal models) that I purchased new back in the 80's.

      I'd probably add a Sub10 mkii whether I use the A8H, A77H or IN8 v2. The A8H go 3hz lower than the A77H so that's the main trade off but the A77H may have better mid bass

Seems like the eight goes a little bit lower than the dual sevens, but the sevens are a bit louder all they probably not noticeably louder and I’m sure the eight are plenty loud. Seems like 27 inch drivers should cost more than one 8 inch seeing how everything else is identical, so seems like the prices are reversed.

    I have used the A7X monitors since 2009. I have had mismatches for my surround speakers, but still got decent surround mixes. These mixes are all post, not surround music. I bought the A7V's and an A4V last summer and put the A7X's as the surrounds, and the A4V is the center. I mixed a 2 hour doc for Nat Geo on them. and two feature films and the results are great. I used the software to tune in a little flat spot at about 180hz due to the speaker placement on stands and some combing from my desk. As you said Barry, I love the sound, and I can sound design and mix for hours and I never find myself turning up the master volume to compensate for ear fatigue. Hopefully I get a solid 13 years of use from these as mains like I got from the A7X, until Adam does something remarkable again. BTW the LFE is the Sub 10 MkII.

    I feel that any EQ applied to make the speakers fit better in your room is actually a compromise to avoid proper room treatment and picking up the best room size that you can. At least for my T8Vs I found out that any EQ is actually hurting more than improving the quality. I very much preferred to deal with the room boosts and dips compared to whatever it is that the EQ was doing. Probably at this price point the technology got better, but I doubt it can compete with proper acoustic treatment. In that regard, would it be better to settle for something like the T series and invest the rest of the money in acoustic treatment?

    • @hienvu1714
      @hienvu1714 11 місяців тому

      I don't think the DSP is meant to replace room treatment. The T series monitors are ok but the A series, especially the 3-way A8H and A77H are on a whole other level. I do agree that room treatment is a must regardless of which monitors you use!

    • @Cpt_Adama
      @Cpt_Adama 9 місяців тому

      @AdreiGrigor Correction software & hardware are meant to be the final tweak to room correction, because even with the best room treatment it will not be perfect. So the idea is to treat your room acoustically first to get the best you can get or afford and then follow up with software/hardware correction to tune the last bit.

    • @AndreiGrigore
      @AndreiGrigore 9 місяців тому +1

    Tell you what, Barry. I was loving my A77Hs until just about 10 minutes ago. I'm sitting there in my studio. Wasn't even playing music and I notice that the LED on my right A77H has turned red. Then it goes off... then comes back on red one more time and then goes off. Poof. That's it. DEAD. It's offline... ADAM app doesn't see it. I check ADAM's website and it suggests checking the fuse. The fuse is fine... I verified it by moving that fuse to my other monitor. What the heck, man!!!

      All I would say is, all speaker designers, especially the more high-end ones are trying to make all the different components work best for that speaker to fit in a certain price point. So I don’t know if one is better or two is better, I’d have to have them side-by-side to be able to tell that. I realize this is not much help, but it’s the best I’ve got.
