- In this Hobby Cheating Tutorial, I take you through my process for creating weathered concrete. This is a fun and messy process that lets you work out your aggression through some stippling and feathering. Great technique for bases and terrain to get a realistic effect fast. Hope you enjoy!

By far the best series of tutorials Iv ever sat through. I have been painting over 20 years and your tips have jumped my skill level way past where i was at last month . Thank you Vince .
Thank you, that is deeply appreciated. My goal is always to help people take their next hobby step, whatever that may be, so I try to explain the why and not just the how, because in the end, people can do things in their own way and that is just as correct as anything I am doing. :)
looking forward to part 2 when you varnish, oil wash, pigment it
I did do all of that, but I didn't do a video on that part as I covered some of that in my other basing video. Would it be worth it to do a video specifically on that? If that's something you want to see, happy to add it to the list.
Just as I was about to start painting the base for Vulkan! Thank you!
Excellent, always happy to see projects align. :)
Thanks for the tips. It really is appreciated
Excellent, happy to help as always.
Great video Vince, Thanks so much mate! Looking forward to trying it out.
Excellent, happy to help as always. :)
I realize it is pretty off topic but does anyone know a good site to stream new tv shows online?
@Layton Abel flixportal xD
@Harrison Kristian Thanks, I signed up and it seems like a nice service =) Appreciate it!!
@Layton Abel You are welcome xD
I think that this is one of the few times that I have seen someone paint concrete that isn't a generic grey. Although most of the paints you used were labeled as 'grey', they wound up as a sort of creamy off white that's a little dirty. Well done sir.
Thanks! It's one of the things I am always trying to push, always integrate color where possible.
I figured this would be fairly easy, paint, drybrush, done but you took to the next couple of levels, nice!
Thank you, I always try to go just a little bit farther than would be sane. :)
I would love to see how you did the rock texture on the rest of the base. That small gap between the rock and the building foundation is a really cool detail.
If you look at the Urban Ruins basing video Part 1, you will see the technique I use to do that stuff and construct the base. Hope that helps.
Awesome share Vince
Thank you sir, much appreciated.
I would love to see your approach to the old cement floors of the 1970's in the NYC Subway stations. @Vince Venturella Any thoughts or suggestions?
You are the best for painting tutorials I have ever seen here on UA-cam! So informative, and like I stated before, your tutorials are also amusing and fun. You are a triple threat guys with these teaching skills!
Lisa
Now that is a very specific request. I didn't live in NYC in the 70s, but I am assuming quite dirty, so I would do something like this, but add a little more dirt, maybe some dirty foot prints, scatter trash and so on (my mental image of the NYC subway in the 70s is quite dirty).
@@VinceVenturella Good morning Vince,
I was actually referring to the painting technique. I'm working with a reference photo of the 34th Street Herald Square mezzanine from 1979. The 3rd busiest in the city, and it was pretty clean as subways go. I used to live in NYC.
It's going to be a large dio, and the floor will be much larger than the floor in your demo piece.
Hey there Vince, i like your tutorials so much that i even combined 2 of em together (ruin base + Industrial base) and it looks good! But now i need to paint it, and i'm at the point that i want this weathered concrete on my walls as you do here. But.... i don't owe any of the Vallejo colors at all but got a lot of GW colors. I've been searching a lot for paint conversion charts but can't seem to find a good one. So my question: "What do you suggest what paint to use for GW paints if i want to follow your weathered concrete recipe? hope you can answer the question, it would save me alot of money and stress :P
Greetings and subbed from the Netherlands!
So I can't claim to be an expert at GW paints, but I think that new Namarti flesh would be a good middle color, it has a tinge of green. Rakarth flesh and Ushabti Bone would also be good. Then just mix in a little white and you're good to go. Then all you need is some kind of brown, or agrax mixed in and you're good to go.
@@VinceVenturella thnx vince for the quick feedback. Yeah i allready thought about using Rakarth flesh and ushabti bone tones, but i was waiting for the experts opinion ;) i'm gonna look into this Namarti flesh since i never heard of it :P keep up the good tutorials on ur channel since you are one of the best ^_^ cheers!
Have u tried any of the other mission models paints or primers Vince? I've heard really good things about the primer.
I have tried a few, no primers yet, but I really like them though they require a freaking paint shaker to be usable.
Vince Venturella ya I my local historical model shop has them and he says the primer as long as u use there system is amazing. Keep trying to get some but apparently he has closed the shop this week for whatever reason. I'll let u know how the primer is when I get a hold of some from him.
Cool
Thank you sir.
I was wondering are these walls were also made from cork just like in your Urban Ruins video?
These are made from heavy plasticard foam, you can get it from amazon and other places for hobbying and it's wonderful.
Maybe I have overseen it but could you do a tutorial for painting white...for example on a Tau Crisis or something else?
I did a white linen, but white vehicles are very different. I actually have that on my list, so it will be coming. White vehicles are really fun to paint, but there will be airbrush steps. :)
Vince Venturella Airbrush is Not the Problem...i'm Painting a Ghost Suit at the Moment in a colorscheme a little Bit like bb8 of Star Wars and the white armour makes me Really Angry 😂
why oil based paint for rust streaks and not acrylic?
Oil paint can be smoothed and removed to create something much more subtle much easier.
