At 75, this song takes me back to age 34 when my singles life was passionate and I loved the warmth, touch and love of women. Now it's the semi-isolation of COVID risk and loneliness, no hugs, no touch, no closeness. My friends are dying off and life is so repetitious.
The summer I turned 12… Loved this song/video. MTV was everything back then!!! I used to think she and Pat Benatar sounded similar and thought they could be sisters. Such special memories in the 80’s. I’m still holding out hope for a Time Machine. ☺️💫
When MTV actually played music videos, coca cola was coca cola arcades were fun and we all got along.....oh how I pine for those days again, those days of my youth gone by......
That's my husband to this day! I can be listening to this song and he'll think at first that it's Quarterflash, then he'll hear me playing Quarterflash and think it's The Motels! Then he'll guess either of those when I'm listening to Berlin!
I was 7 when this came out and I vaguely remember it on the radio. I came to see the video because this song was played in the background of a scene in The Sopranos episode “The Weight” with Carmella and Furio. I encourage everyone to read the Wikipedia page about the inspiration for this song. It clarifies the video and somehow makes the song so much more poignant. Also, I watched it and then did the deep dive into Wikipedia only to read that Robert Carradine of “Revenge of the Nerds” fame is her lover on the beach. I didn’t recognize him on the first viewing.
Sweet memories of a time when we were young in the 80s and love reminded us of a summer day. Only the lonely was also a great tune. Suddenly last summer was the name of an old film that was around 50s or 60s . Like whethering heights was also a film kate Bush and titled her song after.
Wuthering Heights was a 19th century novel by Emily Bronte before it was a film. Suddenly Last Summer was a play by Tennessee Williams before it was a film.
Yay a high quality upload :D I got to see the Motels back in February and Martha and the gang (currently consisting of her, Marty, and three different guys) delivered it out of the ballpark with this song (it was per my request lol) :D
Wow. I found myself zoning out and remembering how sad the last day of summer vacation was and how you wouldn't see the ice cream truck again until next summer. I shall now wallow in 80s music... (Because ice cream will make me a big ol' fatty LOL!). 🍦 Love ya Motels! ♥
🎼 Thank you so much for uploading this music video -- I missed all these classic music videos from the Golden Age of MTV as we did not have it as a channel here in Asia in early 80s when I was a teenager. It is as delightful as it is for me to watch these videos now, for the first time, and I feel just like when I got to watch some of the music videos in the 80s on our free to air TV channel. 🎵🎶 THE MOTELS have such great atmospheric tunes, and I love "Shame" which I got to watch on Nightraxx programme airing Billboard Top 40 videos weekly in 1985. 🎶🎵
80's had the best music ever. Wish i could go back and relive it all over again. I was 13 when this came out and still and will always love the 80's music!!!
22 years old and was in the Navy when this came out ,Summers on Virginia Beach hitting the Bars and Clubs during Spring break lol I had a Blast!! Drinking and Chasing Women! lol
I lived in Virginia Beach area 1976-1982 and was also single, age 27-33. No AIDS, every woman on the Pill, discos and music all over. Life was so fun and exciting. Sex, fun, music, and love!
I haven't been able to determine if this is a love song o r just a song about summer or the end of summer??? I googled the depths of the internet too. not a clue
Martha Davis didn't care for it either. The story line was dreamed up by their Manager/Producer Val Garay. He was taking way too much control so they fired him shortly afterward.
Watching this video for the first time in decades on Labor Day weekend 2024.
Jeanoboyle2439 watching on Labor Day these were the best of times.

I’m listening to this in 2024 and remembering last summer !! Great Band 💙
10 yrs old & loved this! My late mother used to say 1 day you wake up & look in the mirror and you’re older. Time waits for no one. 💔
It was a beautiful time to be alive. Life is too shor Leah, but we are still here!!! One more day is a gift.
I lost my mother this year. It still doesn't seem real. 💔
Hail to the 1980's. Phenomenal era for music and life.

Aw I’m sorry. Our society is so cruel to old people. We let them become so isolated and don’t value them. Our culture is very isolating

Same age at the time for me! Man, it took my breath away briefly, thinking about being 12 again in the 80s.....
It was a great time, wasn't it?
When MTV actually played music videos, coca cola was coca cola arcades were fun and we all got along.....oh how I pine for those days again, those days of my youth gone by......
Nothing like the 80's. Ya had a be there to get this. What a decade!

I use to get the Motels and Quarterflash confused from the radio until MTV showed videos. Thank you MTV.
I thought Pat Benatar was in Quaterflash
That's my husband to this day! I can be listening to this song and he'll think at first that it's Quarterflash, then he'll hear me playing Quarterflash and think it's The Motels! Then he'll guess either of those when I'm listening to Berlin!

❤ Que linda y nostálgica canción de The Motels. Gracias al canal por subir el videoclip. Que recuerdos de juventud 💫🐕🦺🐾🐾🎶🍀🌹 (22.04.2024)
Some songs can still hold up just for feeling nice and this happily qualifies. 💙
Every kid from the 80’s had a summer story to share I’m guessing
as an adult I lived 2xs as an expat in asia. It was wild. soo many memories
What went down ... & what should've been.
Yay a high quality upload :D

The resolution upgrade of the video is fantastic. From 240p to 1080p, nice. Thank you! One of my 80s favs.
About to turn 10 and the journey has never ended, music fuels the soul.😎🎶
This is a good song & video as well 😄❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹.!!!!!!!!.
I lost my mother this year. It still doesn't seem real. 💔
Still love this after all these summers ❤

1983 release date
Elliot Roger brought me here
AHS: 1984 brought me here!
Why did they remaster and speed up this masterpiece?!
Robert Carradine looks like he's Romulan ...
I haven't been able to determine if this is a love song o r just a song about summer or the end of summer??? I googled the depths of the internet too. not a clue
The song is about a magical time one summer, gone now but magical and special in memory.
Where was shot this video?
00:02:48 + An allusion to the end of The Wizard of Oz or the inspiration for the opening scene in Not Another Teen Movie? XD
Is that Lou Ferrigno? Lol
Terrible video. I wanted to see her singing
Martha Davis didn't care for it either. The story line was dreamed up by their Manager/Producer Val Garay. He was taking way too much control so they fired him shortly afterward.
She sounds like she wants to be Kate Bush
