Ideally it would need to be a tachymeter or motorsport, a chronograph with sub dials at 3-6-9 with a distinctive borders or a panda design. Some watches we think are good alternatives are:

On the Davosa Ternos: the ceramic bezel literally fell out of mine about 7 weeks after owning it new. Davosa wanted ZERO to do with it and further refused telling me “they’ve never heard of that happening before”.
Their final fix would be charging me ~$100 for a new bezel and find my own watchmaker to deal with it.
I found that bezel a month later in my lawn, now cracked at the 3pm. Cut my losses and glued it back in myself.
Ultimately I threw the thing away, lol.
I’m not saying don’t buy it or do buy it. Just that they don’t seem to care much at all about you afterward.

I have an SRPD55 and I love it. Wear it almost every day on a number of different natos. A strapcode bracelet is in the plans. Thank you for the positive comments on the SRPD! Its a nice change from everyone bashing on it because it doesn’t have a screw down crown. The SKX is awesome, and so is the SRPD.

I love the Rolex Submariner and Rolex in General
One marvelous alternative and is perhaps the best bargain is the CERTINA DS ACTION Ceramic 43mm. It’s caliber Powermatic 80 is easily in the superlative chronometer precision range.
And in America, the good news is that CERTINA is inexistent, making it have some cachet 😊

  • @dinstaar
    @dinstaar 3 роки тому +6

A GMT is not a dive watch. I am a SCUBA diver, a GMT cannot track air time. I know how much time a tank lasts me and with a rotating bezel I know how long I have been down, it is a good and easy time reference. A GMT cannot do this as its bezel tracks time zones, not minutes.

The best alternative is the Cronos L6005 for $240…..I’d pick it easily over any of these. The best though would be the Ginault Ocean Rover 2…….just about Rolex quality with a Swiss movement. It’s more original than the Davosa, more like the Sub Rolex should have built using the best of multiple generations.

I have only received three watches with faulty mechanisms (from far too many):
    1. Vostok.
    2. Orient. (Which is very much a Seiko Epson Group product...)
    3. Seiko 5KX.
Seiko's quality, despite being a huge favourite of mine, is utterly appalling. Nothing EVER lines up, and to cap it all their mechanisms aren't being checked as thoroughly at QA, as the Chinese homages that use it. I wouldn't recommend Seiko to anyone right now.

Sorry! " ideally has to have a Swiss mechanical movement" and "Dive watch functionality" , so we get first a non Swiss quartz and second we get a Japanese sports watch with 100m WR ( snorkelling/ swimming at best!) a good comparison video set up to fail at the first fence.
Don't set parameters then ignore them, a simple "These are the best affordable subbie homages in various price brackets" would have been a better intro.

Not disputing what he says (except that maybe old subs are 39mm and not 40mm? While newer ones, y, are 41) but... Since when is it hard to buy a Submariner at a dealer at the official price? A "cheap" Daytona (as in the steel ones) is unobtainable unless you're a very wealthy client, while the white gold / pink gold ones can be bought easily. I had no idea Submariners were hard to get now. I'm lucky in that I bought mine used during a serious dip about 7 or 8 years ago (don't remember exactly) and price has probably made at least times 2 since then! Now Rolex sells so many Submariner they're not that hard to find used. But, y, 7 K to, well, quite some.

There is also a list of dealers for Steinhart, I see one is listed in the UK. Cheaper still you could think about an Invicta Pro Diver 40mm or Pagani design Submariner homage watch.

How does 100m watch class as a dive watch? I don't think any of these are alternatives to the Submariner, they are alternative watches, but you didn't really think this video through, did you?
That Seiko is not so well build and doesn't have incredible specs for the price, in fact, its overpriced for what you get. There are many micro brands for example that offer so much more for less that the price of that Seiko 5KX. Your video feels like a sales pitch rather than advice for the new watch collector.
