Honestly, kudos to the governor's voice actor too. His voice is the perfect mix of soothing sinister to fit the character.

Honestly though
The most dangerous people are not these ugly cartoonish villains with ominous laughter, but the charismatic persons, who have everyone's respect, from whom you could never guess what they are actually planning. They are the best manipulators.
That is one of the main warning of Frank Herbert's Dune after all. Beware of charismatic leadership.

Can we appreciate the character design for a bit? The governor’s face and attitude make him come off as charming and charisma’s whilst his silhouette is pointy and angular compared to the other characters, which gave me the immediate tip off of his true character
He's also WAY taller than everyone else. Which could imply both he thinks he's above everyone else, and that he's had much better nutrition than the rest of the town

He also has long, sharp fangs. I didn't notice them the first time I watched but the second time I saw that they were present since the beginning
I love how the mayor eating the face made out of eggs in the beginning foreshadows his motivations at the end.
Also all of the animations. All of them. Absolutely delicious.

How blind are the villagers, that they can’t see the main Villian. So sad
Also during the festival, he eats a slice of mailman-shaped cake and plays that toss game with a rag doll.
@@ir7193 actually, the choice was a tool to gain morale in a way to show “that he doesn’t really care about the bad opinators”, and takes it with a good heart, which obviously is a lie
I think the details are what make Gobelins animations so much better to me than any other film studio- you can see all the care and thought that was put into it. In this one, I love the sinister imagery of him eating objects that look like people towards the beginning, then the devil's costume he wears at the carnival, and the little doll he tosses into the hole. It's such good foreshadowing. I also noticed how the man's son never stopped crying, because the carnival didn't actually help him, it was just a distraction from the actual problem.
This is such a sad truth... That the privilege of becoming a leader keeps falling into the wrong hands and it's starting to become a common occurrence. Such a powerful message, and beautiful visuals as always 💙 Thank you, Gobelins family!

It's very interesting to notice how the mayor slowly becomes less subtle, from casually stealing an apple to literally put himself on a "memorial" of the fallen postman. I was unsure on him being a literal devil in the end because I saw him as an Umbridge rather than a Voldemort, but then again, they are interchangeable in the end.
This is the way schools should teach about problems these days
Exactly, they should, but they won’t because the governments run the schools and need to approve what we teach our kids before we teach it to them (which is insane).
They wouldn’t approve this because *they are* corrupt, and this would expose them for what they really are.
the irony being like irl. the pothole being in middle of the road and ppl want it fixed/filled up, doesnt cost that much money realistically but the city or whoever owns/control that area doesnt want to. but instead holds event which costs more or promote something to keep ppl attention away from it while boosting their rep/ego.
Everything from "climate change" to "ever growing economy" could very easily fit in that hole. Absolutely great job guys!

@@tanimation7289 we been in that for a long while and tbh i have not seen many side effects of it that can’t be pinned on false inflation and the like. is it rlly more catastrophic for the US alone than climate change and western consumerism for the entire world?
@@lord_ozymandias Yes because the climate changes all the time (that is why earth had a ice age) and western consumerism will be fixed with advancing technologies (overpopulation has the same problems until we fixed that). So The National Debt has more of an impact in the future.
This piece is hitting waaaaaaay too close to my Eastern European home.
Between the (literally) killer animation and the insightful storyline, this is phenomenal work!! I particularly love the social commentary in this. It shows how people with power (politicians, celebrities, etc.) can really influence a crowd into believing a lie, like, how some historical events are celebrated when, in fact, they marked the onset of tragedy (think of how Indigenous People's Day in the U.S. used to go by Columbus Day--it was a political PR move).
This piece of animation makes you think about what else is being used for propaganda--anyways thanks for your hard work :D
Yeah, the gradual change from Columbus day to Indigenous People's day is definitely a pacifying move. Meanwhile, we walk over their bones, in a civilization that is rotten to the core.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Columbus day was literally just to make the Italian immigrants shut up about how the government was oppressing them by giving them a tiny insignificant holiday for a corrupt man that nobody cares about and slapping the title "Italian hero" on it expecting them to never complain again about issues that actually mattered, a lot like this animations plot.

This reminds me of our life on the internet. Always having fun and scrolling trough content ignoring how everything big companies are doing with us isn’t even regulated By law. The data they gather, all of the cookies, our information. We don-t even know how much they are taking but it-s a hole we decide to ignore
I love the voice for the mayor! Especially the way he says "Delicious"... It makes me feel tingly and unnerved. All the characters are so cute, too! Especially the little ol mailman

I knew it, the politicians are in league with the potholes!
At 0:21 you can already see one of the statues, which you see again in 4:18. Amazing detail!
This is fantastically executed, the animation is so fluid and polished, and the message is really relevant and influential. It's subtle, so you don't have the full picture until near the end or upon a second watch but has so much foreshadowing and buildup. You all did an excellent job.
The voice, the voice of the governor! It's beautiful ! All the work is really pleasant, but the voice of the governor... really charismatic! And I think I've already heard this magnificent voice before...

I remembered this as another Marcos takes the presidency in the Philippines. History is being revised under our noses and so many have fallen for it.

Love the little details: him stealing an apple from the market lady rather than paying for it as he says “he’s at his best”, him throwing the child into the “hole in one”, him not asking for or saying the mailman’s namr
One of my favorites animations
Terrifying but true. It’s so important to deliver this message especially through art. It’s more accessible to every king of public, and intense as it touch our feeling and emotions.
Bravo, it’s amazing. Critical thinking it’s so important in every century and we always should remember this.

I love Gobelins for the animation, but wow! That lead's voice work was fantastic!
This is absolutely amazing. Big kudos and congratulations to the team behind this. Translating a heavy and complicated topic into something a child can understand is not an easy feat. This film mirrors a lot of realities especially in countries where governments silence or kill activists for wanting genuine change. More power to you GOBELINS!

This short film inspires me, he has this little thing which give pleasure to see again always with pleasure. The esthetic, the sound design, the governor it's a f*cking success and probably the best among all the gobelins movie in my opinion.

What a masterpiece... Kudos to the team work🙌🏼Well I can relate it with the present day politics and the people's blind belief upon them. As the politicians promise for the security and benefits of crowd but they have their own benefits behind every promise and poor people never understand the traps and keep voting to the suckers.
Seconds into the film, this whole situation reminded me of Indian politics and how the PM building statues and the bhakths are indulging in controversies regarding freaking cricket matches.. This hits too close to home

i watched this at a coffee shop and i was so enthralled by this that i completely forgot i was here until it ended! that was wonderful!!
The paradox in this film is so good, it’s indescribable
Feels like there is going to be a hero that will stop this black hole, but leaving the villain as a winner feels like a cliffhanger.
Incredible. Didn't think you'd execute the ending like that but I love it so much. The transformation animation was especially well done.

Great story and animation! And it came in a perfect timing since Halloween is coming!
However, I can't stop thinking that the story somehow relates to real life. Yeah, we have people like the Mayor in real life.
And they govern us.

Totally bro. Better yet, or should I say worse yet, a part of the message here is that corruption keeps growing and it will destroy a country wether it’s a small amount or a big amount of corruption.
It’s like a cancer, once you have it, it keeps growing unless you cut it out.
