No need for gloves or long sleeves. Aluminum doesn't get that hot when you cut it with a skill saw. Safety glasses for sure! It's much easier to cut on the smooth side.
Ive got a 16x4ft x 1/4 sheet of aluminum . I already bought the blade from HD. Its a 56 tooth and looks to be 1/8 thin or thick, whatever. The skill saw is a 4600 rpm. QUESTION 1 Think I should to 2 passes at 1/2 depth or do it all in one pass? WRAPUP YARN Had mine sheet long time too. Just coudnt throw it away so I packed it wherever I moved. Well it just rode on my highdeck with my tractor,so it wasnt a real problem. Since my tractor broke through the 1.5 x 12 planks Im replacing the planks and topping two long rectangle alum sheets at 2ft x 16 ft width for the wheels contact on my tractors spiked steel wheels/lugs( lm lucky I got the tractor out of the hole)
Had a guy cut some aluminum arrow shafts to size for me while I waited. Couldn't get the memory of the awful aluminum smell out of my head for months, so I just can't wait to get cutting my own diamond plate; NOT!
you listed stuff to wear for protection, but left off a mask To filter the smallest of the airborne aluminum /powder. Devestating for the lungs. Mabe not today but down the road. Its like sand, smoke etc i could be soon or years later. NOT a cloth mask, but a professional painter mask or n95 mask
Dude...,😐😒 did you really NOT have any support under the aluminum sheet at first??🙄 You're lucky it didn't cut completely through the 1st time. Because it was going to 'bind-up', and collapse on your goofy ass. Duuuuhhhhh!!🤓🙄
This was really useful, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Determananation! You got it brother. 👍

Cut it on the smooth side not the diamond side. The saw moves around too much on the diamond side.

nice work on the trailer. thanks for the info. really helpful
Thank mate. This was reallyuseful. About to cut my own diamond plate sheet...
great video...kero is great lubricant for cutting aluminium
I got 4 metal splinters just from watching you press your finger into those shavings.
Lol, I do a lot of metal cutting so I can relate to that
Too funny!
Good video, thanks for taking your time and sharing.
not just glasses, but you need a face shield too!
bet a piece of wood underneath would also reduce any chatter.
In another video UA-cam a guy said he got a blade from Lowe's that said for aluminum right on the circular saw blade
he said it cut like butter
what blade you prefer
What blade did you use
How thick was it?
