Nice video! You just made me love my car even more! I have had my GTI mk5 for a little over 3 years, AXX engine DSG transmission. ZERO problems to this day. Meticulously taken care of I must add! I have replaced the common failure items (PCV, DV, Cam follower) as preventative maintenance only.
Great review and I agree with everything you say. Today replaced my wifes mk4 for the mk5, I was following in my Lotus after picking up. People were looking at the GTI and didn't notice my Lotus which usually can even turn heads even of old grannies. Love this car. I want to keep this forvever and will steal it regularly with no remorse.
there's quite a few on the market and you won't go wrong getting yourself one of these. They are dependable cars, even @ 205 000km my one is still going strong and hasn't skipped a beat. Do make sure you get one with a good service history and avoid the DSG model due to expensive repairs if something goes south with the clutches or mechatronic unit.
Good day buddy, awesome video.. I have my mk5 gti dsg for 7 years now and all ready replace all the stuff you have mention... Am the 3rd owner.. Super happy with my car..
Nice 👍 that's impressive reliability for a DSG. From what I've seen is that FSH DSG cars don't give issues with the mechatronic units. I also know someone with an R32 Mk5 with no issues for almost 10 years.
Came across this episode on my timeline amd immediately subscribed ✌️... This is the type of video's i like. Unbiased and honest reviews. I've found so many SA youtubers that review cars or their own cars have very little to say what has gone wrong during their time of ownership and how much it takes outta the pocket. They just praise a car and encourage people to buy one but in reality when you do go out and buy one based on their recommendation, it's (sorry for the language) a complete shit show that just costs a lot of money to maintain. I'm in the market for a car. I'm stuck between the Golf 6 GTI and the Focus ST. The Golf 6 is just better looking for me (my personal taste) and if i can find a very neat up to date service history edition 35 I'll pull the trigger. The same can be said on the Focus ST. The car will mainly be driving long distance as we do have a little Hyundai for town driving so I'm not to bothered abput fuel consumption. Based on you're review I'll surely take note and watch out for all mentioned when going to view the car's. Thanks a mil buddy and keep up the good work! 👌💯
Thank you for the kind words, we strive to keep the reviews honest. Checkout our VW Golf 6 GTI buying advice video if you haven't yet ua-cam.com/video/tS3xjFZxJ9c/v-deo.html&ab_channel=WheelIndex. The Ford Focus ST is the cheaper car to buy, so if budget performance is what you're after, the focus is your best bet. Edition 35's are based off the VW Golf 5 GTI engine (apart from the k04 turbo), so expect all the common problems found on BWA/AXX engines. The G6 GTI is based on the same tech platform as the G7 GTI, only real issues are DSG and Timing chain tensioner failures to watch out for.
@@sakhilengcongo583 192k, sitting on 208k now. The only recent thing that caused me an issue was the vacuum pump cover started leaking oil. I just DIY fixed it and made my own gasket. Overall this car has been bulletproof. I do game drives and trackdays with it !!!
it's depends on your budget and what you want to spend on maintenance. they both have problems. the golf 6 gti is really just a heavily face-lifted mk5 gti with a different engine (ea888) in my opinion. The G6 is more refined and has less cabin noise compared to the Mk5.
great review , I was contemplating selling my mk5 gti manual in black , I have totally changed my mind. I am keeping this for another 6 years!

What mileage is your car sitting on? My one just ticked over 200k kms and going strong too.
Mine has 312000 km and still going

I've got a mk5 GTI and love it
yes, it will be probably be remembered as one of the best cars I have owned after I sell it one day.
Really nice video! Very understandable and interresting. Groeten from the Netherlands
Awesome, thank you!
Great review. 15:19 the best part about this car
I have to agree again! Once you upgrade the turbo you actually loose out on the low rpm quickness that the car offers in stock form.
Thanks for the review.
Excellent review
Great review, couldn't agree more.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Can't wait for more vedio's
Love the video very indepth review thanks bro🔥🔥
Glad you liked it
Very informative video Sir.!
Thanks and welcome
How much was yours and what was the mileage when you bought it? Currently shopping for the same. I'll use your price/mileage as my benchmark
I paid R100k for my car, but then I spent about R10k to get it into good mechanical shape. Then I spent another R13k on mags.
@@wheelindex8983 thanks boss. what was the mileage when you bought it?

what is a better buy, the golf 5 or 6 gti, there seem to be more problems with the 6?

Stock exhaust?
Yes
What mods you have on your golf 5gti
Ram Air Oversized Intake, TMSS 76mm Downpipe with stock ECU tune. I have more mods laying around that will be fitted for my K04 turbo upgrade.
