Is there a difference in the names of the 20 days signs in comparison with the Maya and Aztec? I use this app called (Dreamspell calendar) on my Android device it's a 260 days Tzolkin cycle. The name for the 20 days signs are different for example '1 Reed' is '1 Dragon'. I had to watch this video over and over for about 3 hours so I can understand this cycle 52 years which I have been trying to understand for some time it's very complex and can be difficult to try to understand for a beginner like myself but this video presentation help me to understand a lot better. I have a lot of questions and I hope I can ask them at a later time. Thank you Helen.
@@gregb3443 Dear Greg b: apologies that I did not see your question :( Yes, there is a difference in the names of the 20 day signs between the Maya and Aztec traditions in spite of the fact that the mechanics of the calendar as well as what they considered important to observe and track (ie especially the sun and Venus's movements) is virtually the same. Here they are hoping that this information gets to you and you find it useful: Imix (Waterlily -- crocodile for the Aztec) Ik' (wind) ak'b'al (darkness) k'an (maize) chikchan (snake) kimi (death) manik' (deer) lamat (venus) muluk (jade, water) ok (dog) chuwen (monkey) eb' (rain) b'en (green maize) ix (jaguar) men (eagle) k'ib' (wax) kab'an (earth) etz'nab' (flint) kawak (storm) ajaw or ahau (ruler)
I havent heard you mention the venus cycle which also has calendar that synchronize with the sacred round calendar, it is very important to recognize venus cycle as well
the 13 day "week" was useful in measuring the solar year like so: 13 x 13 = 169. 2 x 169 = 338. 338 + 13 x 2 = 364 + 1 (day of rest on New Year Eve) = 365 .. so the original count was 13 x 13 x 2 + 13 x 2 + 1 = 365 days This was not the oldest "year" in use, but it is fairly ancient. The 52 year cycle would have also been divided into 4 periods of 13 years each, corresponding to one of the 4 "central signs" we see in the middle of the zodiac stone. This was originally an old world zodiac, that was bought in the first discovery of the continents by Aryans, some tens of thousands of years ago (before domestication of horse in the second half of the Buddha Zodiac). In other words, this is a Pre-Flood Zodiac (one of several kinds that vary from the first one, from cultural branch to branch)
The first trecena permutation begins with 1-Cipactli. This fact has been noted in many 16th century sources. There are many models/correlations with differing starting veintenas and the use of intercalary adjustments. I personally think the Ruben Ochoa model is the most elegant and has the most Pre-conquest support in its favor.
I have been studying this for a while and am trying to identify my birth sign. One thing I am stumped on is when the whole calendar started in order to do this. Unless there is another way to calculate one’s birth sign.
You can build on others work because it's called a long count for a reason , some Nahuatl scripts from the 1600s exist where they date them using the calendar that might be the best place to start
I know how to do it by hand but it's long and I lost the reference guide I created off a proper start date. However you can Google Aztec Calendar and there's an online calendar that does it from the proper start point. Btw this lady is kinda off. Here starting day is wrong. The twenty day signs start with cipactli and end with Xochitl.
14 x 2 x 13 = 28 x 13 = 364 /they had 13 months of 28 days each, originally even the newer zodiac had 13 signs, but one was "cut out" and only 12 "months" remained.. which means they also counted the year like so.. (13 + 1) x 13 x 2 = 13 x (13 x 2) + (13 x 2) = 13 x 2 x (13 + 1) = (13 + 1) x (13 x 2) = 364 ,which is 13 months of two 13 + 1 days each, most likely measured after the moon cycles (full moon new moon etc.)
I respectfully say this, but the aztecs were long gone before founding Mexico Tenochtitlan. They are called Mexica (meh-she-ka) its in the book or now called Codice boturini
🤦🏽♂️ our ancestors and grandparents told a very differently meaning. A lot of this is wrong and seems as if it’s being told by a Spaniard and not a native to the land or culture. The dates were wrong and the numbers were off on how we were given the numbers by the gods. Spain had nothing to do with 20 or how we did anything on turtle island.
It has 34 birthmarks around at the top 6 9 1974 God left me Pima pharaoh Joseph DAS high priest Jesus christ child of Bethlehem 12 25 30 God leaves Enoch Mayan lord king's change birthmark from Pima generation to Mayan generation
I I am so happy I have found this video because I have been searching to understand this sacred cycle for a long time. Thank you.
