🔴No hate on Polyphia or Sophia Black musically. I think her vocal style fused into a prog band was done really well.
The video was just not for me which took me out of the musical experience. I am sure it's fun for others!

prog pop
Big departure from playing god for sure but I respect their ability to do both and not be pompous about their abilities, they’re just having fun and I think that’s when artists make their best work
There is def a lot of fun here for sure. That is for sure. Best work? *TONY HAS LEFT THE CHAT*
Says the guy who keep mentioning dug dug ga drum beat. Close your eyes if you hate it and focus on the music. the MV is for the younger pop fans.
@@AmaraQuellcrist Its "dug gah duh" at least get it correct LOL. This might come as a newsflash but its ok to not like every form of art out there. I am VERY aware its for younger fans. I make fun of my age in this reaction video.
I love when people call "cringe" something that's suppose to be goofy and cringe.
Glad you can see it was used correctly
@@DrumRollTonyReacts Idk why, but I only comment these stuff. I like your videos lol you look so much like Bob Burnquist (and I'm brazilian).
@@joaoaugustolandim lol I need to look that person up. BRB
@@joaoaugustolandim I can see that a little bit
Cringe
I love how Polyphia just has fun in their videos and doesn't take themselves too seriously. It's just pure fun.
I actually really like this song. I'm not typically a fan of pop, but the vocals work super well with Polyphia's style.
Interesting to see differences in opinions. I'd massively prefer an instrumental version of this song.
This is in my top 5 favorite Polyphia songs, I listened to it 200 times on the day it released 💀
😅😭
Hahaha sams! But lots of fans aren’t big on this one. Different itches
Man I loved your honesty at the end like "nah, ain't for me" 🤣🤣
Lmao. I LOVE this band. Just couldn't roll with the video 😅😅😅
Im obsessed with this song. First listen was tough. Not sure what to do with it. But the more i listened, man, its such a bop.
Certified banger for me, I love these kind of pop songs
Same
A I U E O
Ka ki ku ke ko
Sa Shi Su Se So...
All day 😅
SAME
certified banger
The crazy thing about this song is that it's a total earworm song. At first listen, the vocals weren't really my thing but I'll be damned if I don't hear this melody in my head all the bloody time now! Plus there's the fact that Polyphia went from ABC...to EGO DEATH which is like the complete opposite of the spectrum! Their upcoming album is going to be absolutely bonkerz!
This makes perfect sense, Polyphia are around my age millennials (28, 29 years old I think drummer clay is 33), and this was all the stuff people my age typically, not generally of course. The pop music, the cringy sex element, the rom com, the horrible perfume ads, the technical tabs, the guitar hero, the Japanese jpop style stuff, the Japanese game show and the behind-the-scenes cringy fun. It is putting a lot of stuff we grew up with in a video. Hopefully, there aren't too many people being upset with you not liking the video aspect, it's okay to dislikes things. Lol. Great video reaction.
onto the guitar solo, people dont give Scottie enough praise, he is an EXTREMELY talented guitarist, his section of Playing God is absolutely mental as well, i prefer him over even Eddie Van Halen tbh
Over Eddy. That's cool.
The video itself was mostly a parody of other things as I'm sure there is a chocolate commercial like that restaurant scene, and the rest was parodying the typical pop MV where everything is colourful and bright. Also, I think the lyrics are a parody in themselves since she sings the alphabet
This album is a combination of a couple that hasn’t held hands in a long time. That metal, that jazz, that funk, and soul comes together in a way now that most aren’t used to. They are holding that hand out for the other side to grasp and say, “We are brothers.”
Music video is cringe? One of the best videos I’ve seen in a long time. It’s so on brand. And intentionally weird.
"It's so on brand" LOL yea that much is very clear.
It doesnt mean you have to like tho
love ur honesty haha, great reaction
Guitar work is pretty impressive, I've listened to it a couple times now, and its still not something I'd choose to listen to really for any reason beyond that. Though I do have to say, it has grown on me a bit since I first heard it, but only a lil' bit.
I can see that
Same. When it first dropped, I was like "nah." I still don't listen to it, but... Just like most pop songs, they can grow on you pretty easily.
@@asplmn It's really groovy and catchy, plus it's like the perfect blend of technicality of instrument playing and vocals. They meet each other in the middle and just sync up so well.
"Cuz I'm fcking old" had me rolling 💀💀
I’ve been looking forward to this. I honestly cannot blame you at all for your final stance.
Really sick song! Tony, have you heard of metalcore band Ice Nine KIlls? Their songs are influeced by popular horror films and literature. Theming in their songs is perfect! Vocalist and drummer are just insane! I totally recommend you to react to their album "The Silver Scream" at least. Some of the songs in this album i recommend to hear in the first place: "IT Is The End", "Merry Axe-Mas", "Stabbing In The Dark", "Enjoy Your Slay"
p.s. sorry for my bad english
bangers
I remember them as a ska band lol
This is why I listen to Polyphia on Spotify
This was my first time listening to this one (I dunno how, i literally preordered this album on vinyl...) but either way. I just wanted to say how my head instantly perked to the side when i heard her recite Hiragana. That was so random
Side note. I just noticed they didnt even double check it when putting it on the music video. When she says "Ya", the kana that appears is "Mi" lol
LMAO Never noticed that, just saw the mi.
Yo, shoutout from like a half hour north of you, in Marysville, Wa! I don’t really dig the whole football thing, but I appreciate your ear for music and what you do with it! I have to say that I really love seeing “older” (no offense, haha) people with a highly tuned ear, taking a look at the anime scene for a change. I’ve been watching your anime OST and Intro breakdowns and I love it dude! Keep it up, shits tight!
No offense taken. Were you a Pilchuck?
Please, do a video on "The Rain formerly known as purple" by Chris Cristodolou from Risk of Rain 2, that man is INSANELY talented! Just found your channel and love the content, keep it up!
You really should listen to treachery, sousuke aizen's theme.
it's crazy good!!
It's funny how they encapsulate the zoomer aesthetic. Most memorable song since a sweet tea and aviator.
I would say this song (and video for sure) is more encapsulating of Japanese culture. The whole song structure is in line with a genre called kawaii future bass that has been popular in Japan for about a decade, and the video is a mish-mash of insane, out of context vignettes which is very on brand for Japanese commercials and game shows. Although I suppose the modern American zoomer aesthetic is moving in that direction
Edit to include the fact that not only is Sophia Black half-Japanese, but during the bridge in the song, she is singing the Japanese equivalent of their ABCs
I absolutely love this song and have had it on repeat but the video just hurts to watch. Definitely one to watch with your eyes closed!
Crazy dream sequence.
Even though I love this song and disagree, I SUPER appreciate you're honest and don't just like EVERYTHING people throw at you like it's the best thing you ever heard. Subbed baby!
Huge Polyphia fan and that track is fun, but I have kind of the same reaction, it's probably not one of the tracks I'll be playing on repeat all day.
At first I felt it hard to listen, but know i'm kinda addicted to it
Kinda opposite tho after many listening to it.
It's the opposite for me. Having pop blended in makes it easier to listen over and over again IMO
This is more or less how I figured you'd respond. :) Love your channel!
You're never too old to enjoy new things or like new concepts or blending of.
I don't think you understood my age reference
Well, I can't stop watching it.
Scott's solo is one of my favorites from recent tracks.
On the drum line side can you watch TSU the authority???? Or Jackson state war and thunder?
Maybe try reacting to their song Nighmare, it's basically the oposite of this one, but also great. It's actually one of their best songs.
And if you have the time, I'd LOVE to see you reacting to Challenger Deep: The Great Calamity. They're awesome and deserve more attention.
ooooh I really liked your reaction to the music. if you're interested, I think you would have an amazing reaction to Stray Kids! they're a kpop group but they're different in that they write all their lyrics, are self-produced, each member has a unique timbre, and they dabble in MANY genres with their songs. a few of their members are credited with over 100 songs after debuting in 2018. some recommendations for songs if you're interested are God's Menu, Back Door, Thunderous, Maniac, Boxer, Secret Secret :)
hey man just saying, if you are gonna continue to react to the jojo themes I suggest to do them in longer chunks (like all villas themes or something). there are a lot of them and most of them are extremely good
I plan to do as much JoJo as I can. Usually 1 theme at a time unless it's opening or closing
Seattle! Nice
I'm the same as you Tony, loved the music and the only parts of the video I liked were the tab section and the guitar hero section.
You should really do the season 4 Overlord opening its great.
Me: Nice DRT is reacting to the new Polyphia song I enjoy. I wonder if he's gonna like it. Oh, the video is only 6 min long...I see.
To each their own, we all have our own tastes in music. Thanks for the reaction. Though, if you think this is cringe...watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure may not be your thing, give it a go though.
Jojo is an anime. Not real people. I'll see though 👀😅
Cringe is far from the right word for Jojo's. Yeah it's ridiculous and dumb at times but it's almost it's own brand of weird and that's part of what makes it amazing. This video though, yeah super cringe lol. I'm a huge Polyphia fan though
@@DreadSwine Really? You don't find JoJo's Cringe sometimes? That's interesting. Don't get me wrong, I love JoJo's, cringe included. It's one of my top 5 anime. And I agree with you, it definitely has it's own brand of weird. I usually use a different word though.
@@unlmitdbeastmode haha I guess with my definition of cringe that's just not how I see it. I can understand your point though. Cringe or not though I'm glad we can agree that Jojo's is top tier
you could react to "Unalloyed Blade Works"? Muramasa theme from Fate go, i like the way you pause the videos to explain what are u filling at the moment nice job dude!
Tony, hello from Spokane brother. I'm still surprised she can keep up
I saw Ur cowboy Bebop tank reaction, I'd recommend the ending to the same show, "the real folk blues"
HAHAHA I'm usually mostly watching your anime and gaming music reaction vids, so it took me by surprise when you said... "Yeah, the video is cringe as f* to be honest" Too funny. Keep doing what you're doing, man.
Would be good if you reacted at Oshakshama by Radwhimps. The best their song in my opinion and one of my favourites.
BASED reaction :D
nah this shit slaps
The video is ridiculous on purpose. Their other one "Look but don't touch" is even more ridiculous. haha
But they seem self-aware enough to *know* it's ridiculous/absurd; that's kinda the point of their whole thing.
This song clearly has funk guitar playing in it, I don't get why it's classified as math rock or math pop.
ONE OK ROCK released SEGA Game's ending soundtrack. (from New Album)
「Sonic Frontier "Vandalize" 」It has International ver, Japanese ver and Sonic ver. SEGA's official website has only half version video.ua-cam.com/video/sJw3ORMcGtY/v-deo.html It's a lyric video added by a fan to the official video. it's good. Its game promotion video. The Sonic version has slightly changed lyrics. "F----" has been changed to "Fight".lol.Spotify has all versions.FYI
Better honest than faking it for sure, so far on UA-cam the majority of people seems to like it while on Reddit some people either made a meme about it or just plain out dislike it.
When you want be cringe, you're not totally cringe btw. It's fun, I laugh.
This song without the voice would’ve been top tier ngl
Tony I'm not even old and I had to look away too 😂
Yup
Am I wrong for loving this song, and finding Sophia black incredibly attractive 🥴?
hearing a boomer call this video cringe brings me joy for some reason, this vid is supposed to be over the top goofy but seeing him get uncomfortable watching is hilarious xD
😅😅😅😅😅😅
Not a boomer but I'll laugh with you
can you react to Yakuza series OST? I recommend starting with "Pledge of Demon" or "Judgement"
Not top-tier Polyphia, but I don't think I'll skip it when I listen to the album. I like the song quite a bit till the Japanese part comes in. Just not a fan of that kind of sound.
the instrumentation on the song is good. but i do agree not one of my favorites. I going to recommend sleep token you will not be disappointed.
Polyphia is Animals as Leaders but pop.
"modern Guitar Hero thing". Yeah... 15 years ... :D
Yep
I had to make a new playlist on Spotify leaving this one out as its cringe af, I know it’s meant to be but yeah lmao 🖤
You should listen to the omori ost more preferably final duet
Ayye I'll drop a sub for a fellow drummer/twitch streamer/Seahawks fan/Polyphia fan. This song is definitely working its way into being a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. Feels a little too zoomer for my boomer millennial ass, but I still like it lol.
Go Hawks
I'm not really into pop, but my policy is that if something sounds good to me, like if I can vibe with it on any level and enjoy doing so, then fuck it. Fun is fun.
I love Polyphia and I skipped to the end of this to see what you said and it was the same...not for me. thanks for being honest.
The video is a lot lol.... Imagine if Ariana Grande wanted to sing this. Literally Billionaires overnight.
I think when things reach such a high level of parody, it stops being cringe for me. It just becomes silly and fun. If this video was meant to be serious, I’d feel otherwise.
I don't like pop music so as Polyphia grows I have liked their music less. My subjective opinion aside, objectively this is a very well made pop song and it's better than 99% of shit on the radio.
Believe it or not, this song is one of the hardest ones to play from that new album. Even if its a pop song that sounds cringe to some people, its technically pretty complex.
Lol. Hard disagree.
@@DrumRollTonyReacts you should try to play and make a video on it.
@@sparda9060 with all the free time I have, sounds great! LOL
The riff is surprisingly difficult but everything else is rly not
U should react to ego death by polyphia ft steve vai .
What are your thoughts on Two Steps from Hell?
hey man, can you please react to goose by them..you will surely dig it
For me, it's just be fun song. Not the best song for me but pretty catchy.
Thanks for cringing along with us, Bro - that video seemed like it was tailored to twelve year olds.
Nice chops, though...
Like half of Polyphia videos are intentionally cringe/ironic. I might be wrong but it almost feels as if they're trying to diss a lot of stuff in pop culture. But yeah, this video was very really different from what they generally do.
lol they accomplished what they set out to do. The video was meant to be cringe. lol
I felt the cringe too initially! Their other song look but don’t touch I was not a fan and couldn’t watch but for some reason the video on this one really buttered my biscuit. Their engineer and mixers are amazing too. Great review!
please react to shadow of the colossus ost !!!
You actually admitted that you're just getting old in your opinions... props for being honest. I'm glad that my spirit stays young, so digs the shit out of everything about this song and video. Creativity on another level. Sorry that you're getting to that judgemental age spiritually!

how about some grownups stuff (jk), like wintersun? :D
What did you add? Aren't you a music director? You didn't give any musical expertise. We just watched a music video together. This is lazy content creation. At least the vocal coaches and other reaction creators add some of their experience and knowledge to specific sections instead of saying, "I like this part" or "I didn't like this part. Hack.
I think her voice sounds great, but (and i know i sound like an uptight loser here) but the musicianship in this song deserved lyrics about something more than just sex. Sex is such a lowbrow topic and its often just a catchall for lazy lyricists
Agreed
Yo so I have just watched 25 seconds of your video so far. Ive never seen your channel before.
No long introduction... You just go.
This is what we need.
I try to stay under 30 seconds unless its something important or an introductory segment on the music
i'm old too, impossible to watch
bro will not survive in japanese :D
I have a Spotify playlist of literally just this song
Y tho
@@DrumRollTonyReacts forgot how to loop the song on its own
Day 1 (I will continue as long as necessary until the Overlord ops and eds have been reacted to)
You should react to the overlord ops and eds. They are really good. I only just discovered your channel through your reaction of the AOT ops and I like that your reactions actually provide insightful information unlike most reactions. You need more recognition. Keep it up👍
Polyphia's newest stuff seems like it's just an experimentation on eclectic pandering to a larger audience: Playing God with the Latin influence, this song with the Jpop/Kpop influence, and Neurotica with the classic prog/shred callback to their earlier days. There's also a sneak peak at an unreleased song they played live called Genesis, and it has this masssssive Big Band backing track.
It really seems like this next whole album is going to be a journey around the musical world, for better or for worse. Stay tuned for the India sitar bop; you heard it here first lol.
"If you like music, you *will* like the album" - Tim Henson, 2021, Twitch
@@rakhimberdiyevt But is it worth it to create music that all people like, but none love? (possibly)
@@mikael9325 I hear you, but think about the Gacha game industry. We hate mobile gaming in the west, but it's the most profitable sect on the planet. There is a ton of money and a ton of people in the Asian markets--I think that is where Tim is trying to bridge over to with this song.
Bands make money with merch. They'd love to sell more over seas.
@@ajdow1424 Of course it's monetarily worth it. I was more so questioning the morals of this band's musicianship, which they seem to be losing.
Yea it sucks really compared to what they were doing a few years ago.
Day 13 of asking for black clover
Soon
If you like tim henson guitar play, you should react marcin playing guitar that man play the guitar differently lmao
Typical anime progression, polyphia makes it sound great. But this seems like some tik tok stuff. Not a bad business decision I guess.
Actually laughed out loud at the video is fucking cringe haha
😅
embrace the cringe
I mean, the video is supposed to be cringe x)
So my natural reaction is accurate
Dang, I can't watch your videos anymore after seeing you describe the MV as "cringe as fuck", seems like someone who doesn't know how to have fun 😞
Didn't like this at all either man, sounded... weird to me I don't know
Can't stand it when people describe anything as 'cringe' like that. Stinks of insecurity and taking oneself too seriously, something the band themselves clearly don't do as they were obviously having fun and letting their imaginations run riot with the commercial and gameshow references.
Why do you get offended when people use the correct adjective to describe something? This vocalist is beyond cringey and that's just the proper and correct use of the word.
@@derpderpin1568 Cringe come from someone's perspective. For me metal is cringey for example but doesnt mean I'm right
@@Luismayer77 yeah metal is the worst music for me,atleast the stereotypical metal music that always include screaming, like what's so musically pleasing about screaming? 🤣
@@derpderpin1568 'Cringe' is a verb. The adjective is 'cringeworthy'. And since the guest vocalist is clearly talented, with both great range and great control, neither use would be correct here.
