      I agree. I was a huge Eric Carmen fan. He has/had such a beautifully haunting voice and I would have loved nothing more than to see him tour. His memory will live on through his records and CDs. God Bless You Eric and thank you for the music.

    Sad day. As a kid who grew up in the 70’s and later as a musician he had such an influence on me. From the Raspberries to his solo career. Such a gifted musician and songwriter. I was lucky enough to see him perform with Ringo Starr as one of his All Starr’s. RIP Eric.

    When I was growing up, I always loved the music opposite of all of my friends. This guy's music was magic to spirit. I loved him then and I really love and admire his music more today. I loved The Midnight Special. Many of these singers of today could not perform on that stage because it took real talent to be that raw. Thanks for letting me express my real feelings. Eric songs does that to you.

      I wish I had you to hang around with back in the day because I had the same problem with not fitting in with the musical aesthetic choices of my friends. I remember the mid 70's music was changing and I was always loyal to singer songwriters or groups with talent. My friends seemed to change with whatever was being pushed on the radio at the time. At first I thought it was me just not being able to appreciate new changing sounds, but then when music got worse through the 80's and so on till today's horrid shit I realize my friends also appreciated it as long as it was playing everywhere. It seems some people really don't have real musical taste and so just go with what's spoon fed to them or popular. Having a real understanding and connection to music like we do is a gift.

    The Raspberries era ended far too soon(1972-1974) but thankfully we have those 4 superb studio albums. Eric Carmen's solo albums were all great and Never Gonna Fall In Love was one of his biggest hits and one of his finest.

      @@richlitton7862 My Girl off his 1975 debut solo album is marvellous! Carmen himself isn't THAT satisfied with the original studio recording, saying it sounds too light, too Soft Pop like, almost Harpers Bizarre esque! He envisioned the recording to sound tougher, more powerful but the producer went in the other direction, making it lighter and softer. I still think the recording has some balls to it and the melodic structure is brilliant, very Brian Wilson esque! As for Eric Carmens ballads, well he a lot of great ones but Boats Against The Current may be his finest. Olivia Newton John covered that in 1978. The Raspberries has some great deep albums tracks of superb quality. Waiting and I Saw The Light, off the first album. And what about the Eagles sounding Should I Wait from Side 3 and Rose Coloured Glasses from Starting Over!? Their second album, Fresh is the perfect pop album, in my opinion. 10 flawless tracks! I've always considered The Raspberries to be Badfinger on happy pills!

      @@richlitton7862 I hear ya. The Eric Carmen album(1975) is flawless from start to finish, in my opinion. Eric himself does have some reservations about certain songs, especially the way Ienner produced the track My Girl, but to my ears it sounds amazing! Of 4 Raspberries albums, Fresh has always been my favourite. I like their rockier, crunchier Side 3 and Starting Over too but my personal favourites are their two first albums, Raspberries and Fresh, both released in 1972.

    The melody of "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" is based on the third movement (Adagio) from Symphony No. 2 by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff.

  • @macgerxx
    @macgerxx 9 місяців тому +1

    Eric Carmen a underrated songwriter? Then you have to know that he took this beautiful melody from Rachmaninoff's second symphony part 3, the Adagio. He did it before with the second pianoconcerto, also from Rachmaninoff, in All by myself. In dutch we have this expression: Beter goed gejat, dan slecht verzonnen" what means: Better well stolen than badly invented.

      Rich Reising with hat on, Geroge Sipl on synth, Mike McBride--drummer, Dan Hrlicka on guitar. Same as on the record. I think that Mike and Dan have passed, based on comments on other EC videos.

    Once again, as with "All By Myself", this classically-trained artist brings in part of a tune from Sergei Rachmaninoff.

    Anyone out there know what happened to these backups especially the fellow with hat on?

    • @richlitton7862
      @richlitton7862 2 роки тому

      They were all from Cleveland. Outstanding. Rich Reising had the hat on. Others were Mike McBride, George Sipl, and Dan Hrlicka, Put on Mt Girl---they sing up a storm in that one. (from reading other comments--Mike and Dan have passed on)

    Can anyone advise me of who the musicians were that back Eric during these years? The Keyboard player on stage left with the Beret looks familiar to me. I do recognise Dan Hrdlicka, the guitarist, but not the other band members.
