I agree. I was a huge Eric Carmen fan. He has/had such a beautifully haunting voice and I would have loved nothing more than to see him tour. His memory will live on through his records and CDs. God Bless You Eric and thank you for the music.
Man this absolutely breaks my heart knowing this wonderful talent is gone. Eric will always be loved and missed and remembered as one of the best ever!!!!!!!!
As a kid in 1976 in Northern California, I had a radio on as often as possible. This song takes me back. It also reminds me of past relationships before I met the love of my life. RIP Eric Carmen and thank you for some timeless music!
Sad day. As a kid who grew up in the 70’s and later as a musician he had such an influence on me. From the Raspberries to his solo career. Such a gifted musician and songwriter. I was lucky enough to see him perform with Ringo Starr as one of his All Starr’s. RIP Eric.
When I was growing up, I always loved the music opposite of all of my friends. This guy's music was magic to spirit. I loved him then and I really love and admire his music more today. I loved The Midnight Special. Many of these singers of today could not perform on that stage because it took real talent to be that raw. Thanks for letting me express my real feelings. Eric songs does that to you.
I wish I had you to hang around with back in the day because I had the same problem with not fitting in with the musical aesthetic choices of my friends. I remember the mid 70's music was changing and I was always loyal to singer songwriters or groups with talent. My friends seemed to change with whatever was being pushed on the radio at the time. At first I thought it was me just not being able to appreciate new changing sounds, but then when music got worse through the 80's and so on till today's horrid shit I realize my friends also appreciated it as long as it was playing everywhere. It seems some people really don't have real musical taste and so just go with what's spoon fed to them or popular. Having a real understanding and connection to music like we do is a gift.
We would've been friends! I would listen to England Dan & John Ford Coley on a transistor radio hanging from my bicycle handlebars. Music was speaking to my soul at age 10. You're spot-on!! I have Eric's 45rpm of She Did It, and I still listen to it. Peace to you.

Eric Carmen a underrated songwriter? Then you have to know that he took this beautiful melody from Rachmaninoff's second symphony part 3, the Adagio. He did it before with the second pianoconcerto, also from Rachmaninoff, in All by myself. In dutch we have this expression: Beter goed gejat, dan slecht verzonnen" what means: Better well stolen than badly invented.
This was played on adult contemporary music during the '70s and that's why it made it hard for me to place the specific year and specific season that it was out but apparently it was out sometime the first half of 1976
Hopefully you've heard Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2, Opus 27, III Adagio before coming here. If not, you should. It's a very beautiful piece as a whole.
Don't demerit Rachmaninofff. man! That little synth break perfectly echoes the clarinet theme in the adagio of his 2nd symphony. Without that. we couldn't have had this.
