Turbo LSx '92 Camaro Build Update 17 September 2016

- Опубліковано 20 жов 2024
- I can't believe that it's been 9 months since my last update on this project! Oh well, I'm glad that I was able to get an update posted before I am separated from it, while moving back home.
The Camaro is so close to being finished, but I've got too many other things going on right now to be able to work on it. Getting out of the military, figure out how I'll be supporting my family and moving 15 hours away has consumed any spare time that I've had. But soon I will be back home and going hard on the videos. I'll be done, moved and back home in San Antonio Texas by January. I plan to hit the videos often, maybe even full time, as I open a shop. Cant wait!
Keep on Wrenchin!

Welcome to Texas!
Thanks! It'll be great to be back home.
That smile after you said: " I ordered a bigger cam for the truck"
yeeaaaa!
Long overdue but way to go Mark!
Thanks brotha!
thanks for the third-gen update.
I saw a video about a month ago featuring a Loud Valve.. It worked perfect for the guys need.. Awesome work on the Camaro. . 👍
Awesome! Thanks Craig!
Put this in the Beautiful truck
awesome video, id bring my camaro to ur shop anyday
Thanks brotha!
Dude. I have just came across your videos and I've watched all of them on this car. I'm building an LQ4 to put in my 95 Mustang. I'm ready to see your finished project!
Awesome man! Yea, so am I. I'm just now wrapping up my move and getting closer to being able to get back working on this.
The c10 looked good with those camaro wheels down at ls fest.
Thank you Colton!
Yay for update.
Welcome back, Gearhead! We missed you! Camaro is looking slick!
Thanks man! I'm going to have to find a new way to slap videos up much quicker and more often.
Aren't we all? Life gets busy sometimes. Parts budgets go empty. etc, etc
Exactly
More !!!
Cool build, those third gens are so tight on room! Nice work!
Westcoast Wrenchin' Thank you!
great project. Will do one myself, but in the future - gotta do some of the other projects. Just Awesome work
Thanks brotha!
Finally a video!
thanks my brother i was wondering when we would get a new video love your work with the ls motors i have learned alot
Thank you Cary! Awesome man! Yea, I've been trying to make the time to do this for too long. I can't wait to get this move over with.
love the build!!
Thank you Rogelio!
Glad to see you're all settled in man, but sad you moved 15 hours away.. Look forward to seeing updates on your turbo LS build!
Thanks brotha! I'm enjoying being back with my family right now and expect to get back to the Camaro soon. First I've got to get my wifes Tahoe right. Vidoes of that will come soon. Drop and wheels.
Need more videos!
I'm hoping to make that happen very soon. Got one up last week of a junk yard walk through and hope to get one up each week now that I'm mostly moved. Only sad part for you is that the Camaro isnt getting touched yet. It's actually still on the trailer from the move in December.
I based my turbo build from your pics on the fb page with some mods to make it all fit and keep the fbody accs and stock alt location.its tight but works. I sadly couldnt do a 4 inch down pipe which trust me..you will need it.Mine is 3 inch and I have a 3 inch e-cutout which I need open anytime over 7psi. And Yea..that oil drain fitting i remember seeing that and I think we talked about it.i stuck with the passenger side on the cover and my drain line has a perfect curve down passage and its a short line. My wastegate is the same as what you have visioned. Its coming along great and once you have it running and making blowoff sounds this car will create many smiles. Good luck on the move..keep on wrenching brother.
Awesome brotha! I'd like to see more on that. Good stuff man! Keep on Wrenchin!!
Anytime..if there is anything you want to see more detail of ill make a video of it.I need to get an 8.8 in this thing so i can safely put the power down and properly launch the car.
I appreciate it!
Looks good!
Thanks Trixie!
your videos are awesome keep it up
Thank you Sergio!
Looking good man
Thanks Paging!
thanks bro for the quick reply
awesome work bro keep them vids coming im hooked
Thank you Cary!
Great to see another vid! Deff help me out with inspiration I constantly loose motivation threw my build (93 civic hatch complete ground up rebuild ) I finally started to sand it all down now for repaint has a long way to go but has came so far already
Awesome Adam! Thats what I like to hear! Positivity! Get it man. Good luck!
dude . so glad to see the update. nice progress. im starting a 69 cutlass ls swap next weekend. gonna be fun. 4.8l with a 6l90e.
Very nice! Good luck man!
lol it sound like you are saying inner cuder, sound naughty. NIce work keep it up
lol Thanks Tre!
Good to see ya again! I'm curious about the belt routing on the car. Not a lot of contact area on the crank pulley. They are usually wrapped around the pulley a little more for traction.
Thanks Charles! Yea, I think I compared it to what others had done online, but I'll keep that in mind.
move your alternator if you're going to tie your Westgate into the down pipe imo.... but me personally I run my waste gates up in the down and let them dump.... great build though. if you have questions I'd be more than happy to help. I've done these a few times lol
flip your intercooler, put the blow off on the otherside.
Thanks and thank you for the tips LSmustangX!
Great video as always Mark
Thanks Jak!
waiting for the first start
Me too! Well, first start up in the vehicle. Cause I did start it on the stand. Anyway, it's loaded on the trailer right now ready for it's 15 hour voyage back to Texas. We roll out this weekend and the move will finally be mostly over.
I bet you will be happy when its all done the move and the car
damn homie looking good..im supercharging my 6.0 in my 4th gen
Thanks brotha! Nice! You gonna like that! What supercharger are you going with?
AGearHead4Life p 1sc but looking for better options.
New cam.
I can't wait for the next video bro !!!
Nice
Good to see you're still alive and kicking.
Watch the hood clearance with that alt.
Thanks man! Yea, I was watching that closely. that's what made me mount it too close to the valve cover. IDK
More turbo action!
well I guess I'll be trying it out once I get ready to drop motor in thanks man keep the videos coming
Great vid bud
Thank you Greg!
Great to see a new video post man it has been a while. Great stuff and by the way you didn't mention the new 20" Camaro wheels on the C10.
Thanks Cesar! Yea man, I'm going to have to do an update video on the truck now. I'm diggin the Camaro 20s and also got the 2" cowl hood on her.
Let's see a update buddy
+Leonard Doyle Yea, I look forward to getting back on this project. Moving the family and house hold 1000 mikes back home has made it difficult.
Feel free to come over and turbo my little 305:)
Man, I thought you fell off UA-cam. Good to see you posting up again.
haha thanks brotha! Just tied up moving all my crap 15 hours away back to Texas.
so you got your truck back
Well I havent posted about the stolen truck on here yet, but yes I didn't get part of it back. The blue truck that I have videos on is the replacement for the stolen truck. A couple weeks ago my stolen truck was found at a meth heads house with a bunch of other stolen stuff. It's been gone for 3.5 years now. IT was great to get some closure. I'll have to post up about the whole story soon.
Hows the Camaro goin bud
got a 5.3 want to put in a 2004 trailblazer any hints on mounts also i live in the cayman islands so everthing has to be shipped over seas thanks again bro
I have no tips that I can think of. I'd likely hunt down the V8 TBSS stuff to make it drop right in or bust out the cut-off wheel and a welder. lol I wish I could be of more help to ya.
i have no tips but make some vids on it id definitely watch
Look at the GMC Envoy. Some models have the 5.3. Im sure that some if not all parts would bolt up, but you would need the ecu and harness from the envoy.
Lots of trailblazers envoys etc. in the lt version has a V8. "My rule of thumb while I'm on salvage yard hunts. If it's has long back doors it might have a v8. " lol
I'm very interested in how this Camaro project is going. I've been watching Matt's video's on his Colorado 4.8 LS. I am thinking about doing a 90's C4 Vette with maybe a LQ9 with ZF manual 6 speed trans. So far I've only scene builds with automatics.
Hey JD! I look forward to getting back on this project. It’s been on pause this year as I’ve been moving back home. We’re about a month away from finally moving into our house, but I’ve still got to run power and Sheetrock the garage before I can wrench.
There’s not much different with using a manual. Actually less wiring. I may go auto in the future. Auto would be better for drag racing but the manual will be more fun driving and killing tires.
OK, I'll be watching for updates. It's looking good. I've been wrenchin' and racing for several years. I relocated to NC a few years ago from Michigan and sold or gave away most my projects and spare parts. So I can relate on how relocating can set things back. FYI - I noticed you might need help in the way of budget paint jobs. If you have a place to spray there are cheap options. Tractor supply has enamel paint for tractors and also sell hardener to make it shine like new money. I have a cheap gravity feed paint gun, couple hundred bucks or less can make a vehicle look decent. Just a suggestion, I know I never budgeted a couple g's for paint in my projects. Merry Christmas fellow gearhead !
hey man new subscriber here. you seem to know your LS stuff. I'm in process of parting together my build for my 2000 silverado, just pulled the L33 out a couple months back and got an ls1 shortblock to build and I'm stumped on building it with a monster cam and longtubes or do a budget turbo set up. the trucks on 35s and more of an on/off road toy than a street truck. any input is appreciated. keep up the good work man I'll be watching your videos
Bro I'm dying to see the truck lol
Yea, I've got some updates on that I need to share. Cowl hood is on and 2010 Camaro wheels.
Sounds badass!! I haven't seen those wheels on one I bet it's legit!
Yea, I'm diggin it so far. I'll get video of them.
LOVE IT man, looking like a bad beast... where in Texas your moving to?
Thanks brotha! Headed back home to San Antonio.
channel is awesome keep it up man
Thank you brotha!
holy smokes man looks really good you make it look so easy lol are you still in?
Thanks Hale! Yep! I start transitional leave Dec 10th.
looking good bro I see you got some new wheels on your truck nice hey I wanted to get some advice on my project truck as far as a 5.3 swap how can I get a hold of you
Thanks Jerez! Posting here on UA-cam is the best way to get ahold of me man. Since I'm currently only doing this on my free time after work, I'm unable to keep up with everyone's requests. Look it took me a week to get a reply to you. lol
Okay thanks here is my question what is it that I need so that I can do the LS swap and what do you recommend the 5.3 or the 6.0 I have a 1990 chevy 1500 with the sorry ass 5.7 TBI I can do the work my self but what would I need and out of what kind of truck would need to get the engine and transmission from
You should watch the video that I did on Richard's '94 Chevy Truck 5.3 swap. It tells you pretty much every thing that he did for the swap. Choosing between the 5.3 and 6.0 is a decision for you to make, but I say 5.3. They're my favorite.
Here's the link to the video for you: ua-cam.com/video/s0eX5LG-E0U/v-deo.html
Where you been
Man, I've been slammed packing, moving and preparing the house to sell. It's now on the market and I've made the final trip home to San Antonio. My family's been here waiting on me for a couple months. So i'm just enjoying them right now and will be hot on new videos very soon.
All right I will call and cancel that missing persons report glad to see your doing well and getting close to Camaro burnouts, keep on keeping on!!!!!
haha Thanks William!
Looks good, what type of radiator and fans are you running. I have that same loud valve and its pretty awesome, sounds like a get flying by :-)
Thanks Ashton! It currently has the stock radiator and 4th gen f-body fans. Cant wait to to hear my flyby!
With all of the time that has passed... how is the project coming along? Any issues with the belts or hoses getting cooked with the exhaust/turbo so close?
what part of texas? I just got medically retired and moved to killeen for a job offer I couldn't pass up! I really like it out here!
Cool man! San Antonio is our home.
hell yeah man
thanks man you are such a great help. I was looking at the video again and I don't see a spot on the cold side for a maf. So we're did you put your and also I know I have to run a y ban o2 sensor. we're did you mount your and did you delete the spots for your factor o2 sensors or do you still need to run them as well.
I will not be running a MAF on this build. It will be what is called "Speed Density". It will reference the MAP for the needed data. I have not stalled my wide band yet, but it will go on the down pipe. I am using the Holley EFI system and it does not use the two narrow band o2 like from GM. It just uses the one wideband.
More vids please
407ForRent Roger!
Where is the passenger side header connecting to the rest of the hot side?
looks like it just runs out under the firewall.
It Ys together with the driver side right in front of the thermostat area. You can see it in the previous videos on this build.
Here is an older video in this playlist that shows more on it. ua-cam.com/video/LIj4A9WyEQ8/v-deo.html
This one is good too. ua-cam.com/video/HbOjGBjJuyA/v-deo.html
why we dont hear about the camaro no more?
The 1000 mile move back home has put a delay in the progress. I'm now looking for a place to set up shop so that I can finish it. It's very close though. +علوي ال طالب
AGearHead4Life thats great i am looking forword for it to get done
Did you ever finish it?
what's that website you said sells the LS swap motor mounts for square bodies? thanks homie!
I'm not sure. There are many. Dirty Dingo and Tejas Steel Works are a couple. It all depends on which way you want to do it.
Hey what's up can you make a video that shows what is needed to install a 4l80e swap from the previous 4l60e I keep hearing something about pins in the plugs but not sure what pins there talking about thanks .
Yessssir! I'll add that to the list! I do have a great saved "Note" on it on the Facebook blog page "AGearHead4Life". Let me check for a link to post here.
Here's that link: facebook.com/notes/agearhead4life/lsx-4l60e-to-4l80e-swap/672347056152259
I have an LM7 5.3. if I was to do everything that you did to yours, but wanted to add nitrous, what would you recommend I do differently? would I still be able to use the 4.8 flat top pistons? how should I gap my rings. OH!!!! and would you recommend I take the block to a machine shop and get everything balanced?
No, i wouldnt balance it. These answer will depend on how much nitrous you were going to run, but you dont have to modify anything to run up to around 200hp shot. Yes, I hear that nitrous like compression, so you could swap in the flat top pistons.
will the 4th Gen camaro headers work on 3rd gen
I'd like to know myself. I havent heard that they will. I've heard of a company making Hawk long tube knock-offs though.
just got 5.3 for my 92 camaro stop wishing start doin
Yeeaaa buddy! Get it!
What do I have to swap out? Computer? What about the anti theft
Anti theft (VATS) is usually removes when the PCM is flashed for the build.
ok well here goes I have a 4.8 will just be a DD. Its going in a 85s10.
The motor came out of a 04 G35 van has all truck ops on it. Its at the
machine shop now to get cleaned up. I want to reuse the same pistons and
rods. I am having the shop install new cam bearing. As far as the turbo I
will be using a 76mm with a 45mm waste gate and building all the same cross
over like in yours. I will be running harden pushrods arp head studs and
bolts ands that's about it
Where did you get the torque arm mount for the 8.8?Ive been following this build for a while because I am doing almost the same swap to my 92 Camaro LQ4/4L80E with 88MM turbo and Ford 8.8.
Hey Ricky! The mount is a "Hiltsy" TA Mount. You can find it on eBay for $50.
Upload more videos
Hello Brian. My move is almost done and I'm aiming to get one up every week now.
I am following the same setup as you but on a 4.8 could you tell me why I need a dump valve and were do I put it or can I shoot it back into the exhaust.
Cool! You need a waste gate around the area where I said that I was putting mine. It releases the exhaust pressure from before the turbo when It's not needed. It goes on the "hot side". Controls boost too. It's important.
youre moving to texas?
yep yep! San Antonio. Back home.
what size cam do you have on your blue truck?
It had a TSP 220r, 220/220 581/581 112lsa. I sold it to a buddy and im slipping in the new one now.
what alternator bracket?
I'm not sure what I'll go with or do about it at this time.
Can I put an LS1 into my 97 Camaro Z28 that had an LT1?
Sure you can! We can put any motor in any vehicle with enough drive.
where do you have the ECM Flash
"CoolMike222" on ebay is one source.
Hey man I have a question since u had two of these trucks. I have a stock 305 5.0 just rebuild the carb elderbrock 1406 it starts perfect and runs find when it's parked. but I run it for a while on drive and it shuts off. and doesn't want to crank back up after that
I wish that I could help you Rafael, but that'd be very hard through text. Testing needs to happen to find out what it wont crank back up. You have to find out wether your missing spark, fuel or have too much fuel. Then go from there.
I need your help.. I have 96 chevy silverado 5.0 liter.. What all i need to put a 5.3 liter vortec in it...?
EMAIL ME IF YOU CAN TALK.. I can give you my number or get yours.. Dawson.sons@outlook.com
You need to watch the video that I have on that swap. It will answer your question. I'll get you a link.
Here you go. Low Budget LS swap video on an OBS truck like yours.
ua-cam.com/video/s0eX5LG-E0U/v-deo.html
hello mr.gearhead4life. I have a 5.3l LM7 out of a 2000 gmc sierra. I am planning on putting it in a 1955 Ford F250. I would also like to add twin turbos. I am a pipe welder. so I have experience welding. however I am trying to make this as cheap as possible. what kind of modifications would I have to do to the engine? and what size turbos should I get? again, cheap as possible. I do not mind getting used parts where it be needed
Just start searching for stuff you know you need and keep eye out for
Cheap turbos.
Yep, to keep it cheap, just leave the engine as it is, stock. You might want to consider a boost cam and good vavle springs though. For turbos, contact Viren at VSracing.net. He'll fit turbo size to your goals.
ok then I will not run a maf either. not running a Holly EFI but the I am ordering the other injectors and I am flashing the ECU hopefully the mail order tune will work until I get it to the dyno. is there anything thing else I need to know
Not that I know of, but I also dont know the whole story of you're build.
I just got another 3rd Gen I've been racing my gbody been thinking about dropping in my motor from my gbody into the 3rd Gen. what headers do you used on your camaro and is their and cutting or welding that has to be done to drop an ls in the 3rd gen
I prefer to cut the crossmember to give clearance for the f-body oil pan. I think I showed that in some of the older videos on this project. People have done the swap without cutting, but the pan was too close to the crossmember IMO.
You can use f-body manifolds or Hawks makes swap headers for the swap.
as I can consegil engine that you have and the better bring it to Puerto Rico
I'm sorry Ricardo. I'm still not understanding. Are you asking to buy the engine? If so, this one is not for sale. Once I open shop next year, I'll then be doing this full time and would likely have the ability to sell them and ship.
Where are you opening your shop at?Shop #?
It will be near San Antonio, TX.
what intake is that
LS6 intake
hammered dog shit welds lol
Yep! And they do the job! It aint gotta be pretty to hold two pieces of metal together. If you're focused on pretty, you're focused on the wrong thing. That's such an annoying trend these days. People thinking every weld needs to be "tig art" is ridiculous. This is home built garage mig welds here, making magic happen. Even worse is that usually the people judging these welds don't even own a welder. lmao
I weld for a living lmfao
ah, good! Then you should know what I'm talking about.
who do you use to flash your pcm?
I've used many different people and will soon be doing it myself. But I do have one source for you to get yours done in the video description of the video on this link: ua-cam.com/video/1lpuIiPB2sk/v-deo.html
i thought you was selling that car?
+dennis bryan I considered it at one point, but I wouldn't sell it till it was finished or I'd come out short.
AGearHead4Life cool a youtuber that comments back
dennis bryan Yesssssir! I try, but I'm starting to get overloaded and not able to keep up. I've been replying since the beginning, but the channel is growing to where i can barely keep up with the comments. I'm usually a week or two behind on comments.
Are you still selling the t-shirts on paypal? I tried the email and Google sent a non mailer verification. 2 XL Black. My 87 R10 is almost finished. Thanks again for the videos!
Yessssir! I've got a bunch of T-shirts in stock. I keep Black and the Grey in stock. Other colors and odd sizes like "Tall"s can be made on special order, but take more time. Just shoot the PayPal payment to agearhead4life1@gmail.com
Sweet! Glad to hear it man. Good luck on finishing her up!
AGearHead4Life ok. I will. I need a black 2xl
Alright. Too easy. I've got those in stock.
Would you like me to send you a PayPal invoice? I haven't received your order yet.
If you'd like me to send the invoice, send me your email address.
AGearHead4Life Checked my Paypal on T Shirt status. It says pending sense Nov 2. You may have to invoice me. hrbailey68@hotmail.com
Herman Bailey Interesting. Maybe you might have left off the "1" in my email? That happens a lot. IDK, but I'll shoot you an invoice now for on Black 2XL. Thanks for the update Herman!
ok well here goes I have a 4.8 will just be a DD. Its going in a 85s10.

Baylor, without your comment reply being under our conversation, I can't keep up with the conversation. I reply to many people on here and I'm not able memorize each one. So I'm not sure what we're talking about now.
