Nice shout out to Raoul Trujillo's "Drak". That guy plays some seriously memorable 'big bads'. My favorite was the slaver leader in Mel Gibsons "Apocalypto"
I always thought it was funny how he scans the bad guy at the end, mutating his head all out of shape, then stops and says, "Stop! No more killing..." It's like, "Ummm...after what you did to his head, I think he'd be better off dead." Still, great review!

"Instead of blowing him up, they drained his life Sheng Tsung style". Laughing my ass off of this!
Wow, I haven't seen this flick in years. Can't remember how many times I watched it in high school. Loved it. And, I totally just noticed our hero was the same eccentric scientist from Stargate: Atlantis.
I was thinking recently that there are two ideas in _Videodrome_ that were expanded upon in two _Scanners_ sequels. Idea #1: Authoritarians want to use mind-control to rule what they see as a weak, corrupt society. Used in _Scanners II_ (Forrester). Idea #2: Mind-control through TV. Used in _Scanners III_ (Helena).
Great vid. BTW, Scanners 2 had a theatrical release in the USA. I built and previewed the film in Orlando, Fl at the theatre I worked at back in the day. Good times!
DUDE!!!! Thank you for using FroHawk!!! ... i have crazy curly hair, and it made the BEST mohawks ever,.. but when i didn't spike it,.. it was a frohawk, and they are something EPIC and hardly seen,.. i sported it more than the spikes,.. God i loved the 90s lol
Always a pleasure to see your take on some of these "none mainstream" horror films :) I do enjoy the background information you give...as well as the jokes that are sprinkled in. I'll probably watch this review about a dozen times this week lol :) Btw, the exploding watermelon bit about UA-cam's new restrictions....that is going to be a classic :)
Great review, as always!!! By the way, Night of the Demons (1988) has one of those mismatches that you talked about, between video games and video game sound effects. In the scene in the beginning where Linnea Quigley is wiggling her fanny at the guys at the counter in the store, you can hear video game sound effects in the background. But, they are the sound effects from the HOME version of Pac Man, for an Atari home console that was already outdated in 1988, not the arcade version that you would have found in a store in 1988. This mismatch drove me completely insane when I first saw it, back in 1988, and I'm still completely insane today... it's a hard knock life.
Holy shit!!! that was David Hewlett??? I didn't even recognize him before you said it, and I freaking love him, he is the ultimate sy-fy actor, meaning he is in everything on sy-fy...
Another fun episode Cecil I haven't seen this sequel or the next one or for that matter both ''Scannercop'' films in years but I do remember enjoying way more then the first 1981 film IMHO!
I loved the feel and "USA Network" feel of these early 90s straight to video movies. Do a review of Scanners III. That was way sillier. I got the Scream Factory double pack and am really happy I did
Great review! I literally only watched this film in the first place as it stars a pre-Stargate Atlantis David Hewlett, checking out a young be-quiffed Rodney McKay was the main selling point of this film but I enjoyed it in a daft early 90s kind of way :D
I geeked out fully the moment I saw Rodney, my all-time favorite Stargate character. Had to come down into the murky waters of the comment section to see if he got some love.
ScannerCop was my first exposure to the series, rented from my local video store because it looked exactly like the kind of low-budget schlocky sci-fi I was in the mood for. While it's exactly that, it's also really good. The whole series, I feel, plays with some pretty interesting themes, and there could be a lot there for in-depth analysis types to unpack.
When I was a kid I begged my rents to let me go see this one cuz my bestie loved the first one and was hyping it up. After a ton of pestering, they said if my older sister took me I could go (classic 90's). She saw some trailer with Drak being super creepy, turned and looked me dead in the eyes and said, "Ugh, it looks lame, and I'm not going to see it. Good luck!"
Now he's playing with power....BOOM! Lot of Montreal landmark Morse Neurological institute is the Montreal's casino :D The Vetenary School is McGill university Forrester actually a pretty recongnizeable Quebec's actor (providing you watch Quebec TV) is weird acting probably explained by the fact english is his second language
I'm in love with your reviews. I'm not exactly a B-movie fan and 99% of your references and jokes go over my head (so far I only got one: Your reference to Troll 2 in your Children of the corn 2 review), but there's something genuinely entertaining about the way you approach these videos and you got me hooked. Excellent job!
Thank you! Glad you are enjoying them even though you aren't getting all the references :) Check out my Exploring series playlist if you want something more serious
I'd love some more entries in the Scanners franchise. My favourites among the sequels are Scanners 2 and Scanner Cop 2, with Raoul Trujillo and Patrick Kilpatrick playing awesome baddies.
Brak, LOL. Considering you are close to a 100k subs, I want to honestly congratulate you Cecil. I've been with your channel for three years and let me say you are one of the best content creators on UA-cam. Your focus on underrated/not aware B-rated movies is excellent. As someone who looks at films like this, I honestly want to thank you for expanding my horizons with these films. But more so, your exploring series really help showcase how aware you are. Your viewpoints are intelligent and combined with mixing humor, you sir definitely deserve all the success you are getting. So to conclude, keep up the great work Cecil and congratulations. P.S: As for an Exploring series, I'd love to see WTF happened to movie soundtracks. Seriously, they are a dime a dozen when it comes being memorable and fantastic as standalone pieces.
Thanks for sticking around! I really appreciate it. Its been a ride seeing this channel grow and I continue to hope for bigger and better, because that will allow me to produce bigger and better. :) When I started I wanted to focus on the lesser known stuff and that hasn't changed. I occasionally dip into the mainstream when it makes sense (like with Man of Steel) but for the most part, my heart remains with giving the underdogs their day. I've been tinkering with the idea of a Movie soundtracks episode but the YT content system goes nuts over music and it may get flagged into oblivion.
GoodBadFlicks That's understandable. Content ID sucks and is a broken system. UA-cam best do something, less one day a competitor comes around and some of the bigger channels will flock over. But that's good you've stuck to what you intend. Too often, I see some big UA-camrs shift away from what they once were. And you are doing a wonderful thing, highlighting less known movies. Overall, congratulations. And I look forward to seeing more of your content.
Ah, I should have known. UA-cam is making it really hard to make a living these days. That is, unless you are already well established or make nothing but clickbait. For the future since they can't seem to get their own site working, expect new episodes every monday at 1 PM EST. Hope that helps :)
I had a pager in middle school that I paid for with the proceeds of removing my dad's ginko biloba from the capsules and selling it as pot to the rich kids. It was completely useless as anything except an alarm clock lol
yay! Cheese made in Montréal!!! On the outside, that Neurological institute is actually the Casino, the Veterinary School is actually University of Montreal (i love the irony in that)

Dude, keep it up. Funny is funny and the fact that it's an o&a reference is like a little Easter egg to go along with the funny, for us fans. Especially since o&a is no more.
GoodBadFlicks is the most under appreciated channel on youtube. Deserves way more then 98000 subs
Thanks! I'm getting there ^^
I do like your vids though I wish they were longer. Keep up good work

awww thanks!
Nice shout out to Raoul Trujillo's "Drak". That guy plays some seriously memorable 'big bads'. My favorite was the slaver leader in Mel Gibsons "Apocalypto"
I loved how their powers were elaborated on with each sequel.
I always thought it was funny how he scans the bad guy at the end, mutating his head all out of shape, then stops and says, "Stop! No more killing..." It's like, "Ummm...after what you did to his head, I think he'd be better off dead."

Fuck yes for a sequel to Psi-Ops!! Great video, top notch content as always :)
Thanks!
"When not auditioning for Korn...."
Bravo, sir...
:)
So much respect has been earned for mentioning Psi-ops, that game was incredible.
:)
The part with the watermelon was genius, Cecil! LMAO on that one!
Thanks!
Scanners 2 wasn't direct to video, he played in theater here in Canada and it was quite successful at the box office.
Puppy making it to the end was essential.
Wow, I haven't seen this flick in years. Can't remember how many times I watched it in high school. Loved it. And, I totally just noticed our hero was the same eccentric scientist from Stargate: Atlantis.
The producer: How many scanners do we need in film?
The director: Yes!

I still love this old gem, especially Raoul Trujillos performance as villain.
I could swear I remember Scanners 2 being out in theatres. And is the actor playing the lead character the pompous know-it-all on Stargate Atlantis?
It was, I saw it openning night here in Quebec....
The Bud Dryer references nearly killed me!😂😂😂😂😂😂

another incredible, funny, well documented, well narrated review, the water mellon joke killed me ahaha
