(Ryan) Hey friends! Welcome back to Magic Arcanum. I'm really glad you guys enjoy these videos. I just want to fess up and admit I kinda implied Maze's End is a legendary land in this one, but it's not - apparently there can be more than one end to the maze...? Also, I wrote and recorded this one just before the full set list was released for Ravnica Allegiance, so I say "we don't have all the story cards" but by the time you watch this, we obviously do, so...forgive me for that one too lol Nicole, Jazon, Justin, and I are super excited to tackle everything happening in Ravnica Allegiance for the next video, so stay tuned for that one in about a week. Until then, thanks for watching, and leave your comments below!

I think the reason the gruul guildgate’s flavour text is different is because they’re gruul and infighting is so common they wouldn’t recognise the change.
I actually just got done building and playing with Mazes End and Guildgates in my commander deck (Golos) to great success. Glad to finally put the first mythic I ever pulled (Maze's End) to good use
The main reason I like gates nowadays is circuitous route. It's just a strictly better explosive vegetation. But even before then I enjoyed them because I almost exclusively play EDH and, well, they're an additional set of dual lands.
I have just begun playing MTG again since middle school (mid 90s), and good fucking lord... I never knew there was a story behind the entire game! Thanks! Now instead of playing the game, I'm gonna try to collect em all to understand the story!
The card from RNA "Gates Ablaze" is a potential lore-gate-relevant card. My guess is that a part of the revolution/war who is about to begin on Ravnica, the Gruul (who are not controlled by Nicol Bolas, right?) will begin a, well, rampage, that is described in Rampage of the Clans and will break some of the guildgates as a part of their rampage against the Nicol Bolas controlled guilds.
Pretty sure the Gruul are under Bolas' control, as a) they have a planeswalker card, and b) there is no faction more happy to burn Ravnica to the ground than them. Given that Bolas almost certainly wants the inhabitants of Ravnica too weak, divided, and depleted to stop whatever he plans, harnessing the Gruul's rage just seems like a no-brainer.
(Ryan) The guilds with planeswalkers in Ravnica Allegiance are all under the influence of Bolas, so that includes Gruul. I think the impending riot of the Gruul is part of Nicol's plan - maybe in the distraction and chaos, he'll be able to search for something, or get into a place otherwise hard to access?
What is Nikol Bolas (supposedly on Ravnica) is trying to solve the maze to gain ultimate control of ravnica which would let him get enough power to face Erebos which gives him ultimate control over basically everything in all of the plains.
Hey! You mentioned that there were 5 guilds under Bolas' control, but didnt clarify which ones. In your video about what's happening on Ravnica, you talked about the Izzet League and Golgari Swarm being under control of Bolas but that leaves 3 more. Would love to know which they are in this one! My guess is Azurious (Due to the Assasin's trophy text) Rakdos (Since a demon is most likely going to be working with a bad guy) and Orzhov due to their planeswalker's title being "The usurper." Let me know how I did :)
(Ryan) I'll cover it in more detail in the next video, but the three in this set that are under the influence of Bolas are actually Azorius, Orzhov, and...Gruul!
Basically the guilds that have planeswalkers as their leaders are on Bolas' side (Azorius, Izzet, Gruul, Orzhov, and Golgari) while the ones that don't have Planeswalkers are not with Bolas (Boros, Selesnya, Dimir, Rakdos, Simic). Interestingly both Izzet and Golgari are not fully under Bolas. Vraska had planned with Jace to become a sleeper agent against Bolas, so when Jace restored her memories, she and the Golgari would ally with the Gatewatch. For Izzet, Ral is with Bolas but he is not the actual leader of the guild. He's leading the guild because Niv-Mizzet disappears, speculated by most to be consumed with the Firemind's Research. So when Bolas shows up, Niv-Mizzet might show up as well and I'm sure some if not most Izzet members would side with him instead of Ral.
I’ thinking Ol Nicky B (I like his rap name better) is going to ignore the secret-hidden-power of the gates and the Gatewatch is gonna be the one to use it.
I’ve been making a DND campaign based on the plane of Ravnica recently. It’s required a ton of research, but it’s been great. If anyone who sees this can think of a random ass Ravnica fact, reply with it and maybe I’ll throw it into my campaign. Thanks!!
Fribonansa Yeah! I’ve already got the Guildmaster’s Guide to Ravnica, it’s fantastic. It’s what’s mainly building the campaign, the rest is nice and homebrewed!
as long as things are mostly as they seem currently, Jace and Niv have this on lockdown. Dovin should be easy to sway with a basic argument of logic and law, Niv and Jace should be able to strong arm Ral, pay Kaya to go play somewhere else, give Domri a place to call home, and finally just remove the memory block from Vraska and Nici-B has no footing. any hold he has at the moment is too loose.
Nah, I didn’t forget, left most of his resources out because they are a theoretical presence. He has them, but we don’t know what his plans are. We do know it is the heroes plans however to save Ravnica, so i was giving a practical rundown of what they could do with what they have. There are a lot of resources on the good guys side I could have mentioned if I wanted to be fantastical
Ruric has text on the guildgate and i wouldn't put it past Domri to do some murder. Anyway if memory serves the gruul don't have a formal leader, they just listen to best smasher.
Wait a second, in the guild pact if it fails it's GG, ravnica dies. Could Bola's be planning to self destruct ravnica with the gate watch inside "trapped by the "sun thing.".".
I wish the cult of Yore played a bigger part in the stories and I think that they will eventually come back; which would be the perfect excuses to print legendary Nephilim.
Once made a mean Rakdos deck. It specialized in making its self unblockable(didn't work very well) and in all honesty the best card for the deck was an old black card I threw in. Bone Dancer. If memory serves right if bone dancer dealt damage to a player I could instead negate the damage and draw the top creature card of the opponents graveyard under my control. Card was a 1/2 I think and a zombie or skeleton
I really enjoy your videos, I personally would request though that you continue to focus on current events instead of all the other topics you mention of deserving their own video. Ravnica block is 2/3rds over and i still dont feel like i know whats going on with all the guilds.
How about this Gateway to the guild pact enters tapped. Tap for one mana that can be made by any gate you control Two generic mana and tap gateway to the guild pact target creature gets plus one plus one for each gate you control until end of turn Tap 5 untapped gates you control. That creature gets plus one plus one for each gate you control until the end of turn and gains haste. Activate this ability only when you could cast a sorcery
To my knowledge, Nicol Bolas has control of only 4 guilds, not 5. He has control of Izzet, Golgari, Orzhov, and Azorius. He doesn't have control of Gruul. Grull is just doing Gruul stuff. Granted, that helps Nicol Bolas by taking the focus and attention off of him and onto the Gruul, but they are not in his control. You can't control Gruul and Rakdos. Best you can do is aim them at your enemies and let them do their thing.
(Ryan) The flavor text on Dovin's Acuity suggests he is counting Domri among known allies. It is unclear exactly how much 'control' Bolas is exerting on the Gruul, but this card makes me think they see them as more than just a neutral force that is conveniently destructive.
Reasonable? Boros are literally gung ho policemen, Selesnya are like JW or Hare Krishnu(just like at least 5x worse). Azorius is ok, even though they have rules for rules. Imo, the most sensible guild is Dimir. But Boros isn't half bad either. Golgari is also quite ok, but it's like extreme poverty(they at least help each other often). The worst are Simic(just weird and creepy), Izzet(just hyper weird) and Orzhov(they're literally the worst even despite Teysa's...appearance). Dimir > Azorius > Boros = Golgari
... but they dont do 3rd sets anymore. Ixilan had 2. Kaladesh 2. Amonkhet 2. Dominaria only 1. I think bolas is gonna get something else out of ravnica. Maybe an izzet artifact that can extract planeswalker sparks. Sparks have been transferred before.... karn has urzas.
(Ryan) Kind of. Ruric Thar doesn't have a card of their own in this set though. Nikya of the Old Ways is the rare legendary creature for Gruul, and should have been the one quoted against the guild's planeswalker to complete the pattern.
Well, sure, but as you described the pattern (which I had not perceived before, so thanks) as "current management on front door vs. some other faction on the back door", it fits perfectly. Domri's perspective is much more broad and even paints a "bad" picture of the current Gruul as disorganized and in need of the leadership that will take them to the "End Raze" as Ruric extols the clans and their territory just as they have always been.
I really enjoy the videos, but you need to find someone who knows how to equalize sound among them; there's such a huge variance in volume from video to video

The worst are Simic(just weird and creepy), Izzet(just hyper weird) and Orzhov(they're literally the worst even despite Teysa's...appearance).
Dimir > Azorius > Boros = Golgari
Rakdos, pretty much everything about then is crazy fun and madness. Love it.
You mean they aren't gates for guild?
Nicol is going to use the Immortal Sun and then Portal his undead metal army from Amonkhet to Ravnica come the third set.
... but they dont do 3rd sets anymore. Ixilan had 2. Kaladesh 2. Amonkhet 2. Dominaria only 1.
I think bolas is gonna get something else out of ravnica. Maybe an izzet artifact that can extract planeswalker sparks. Sparks have been transferred before.... karn has urzas.
@@misterturkturkle I mean i think a third set for this "story chapter" is confirmed, but it could be anywhere.
@@BobSmith-cg2ek War of the Spark is the next set, WotC accidentally leaked it on their website a short while back.
@@hapijoel7569 Thanks for the info!
Actually the Gruul Guildgate DOES follow the padron opposing Domri's perspective to that of the ogre Ruric Thar.
I wonder if they are gates to the guilds.
Dat Rakdos Gate that looks like their Guildsign.
Banana reference ... Hmmm thats my one and only boy Tasigur for sure !
They really gotta make these faster
The gruul are not in conflict, the conflict was between borborygmos and domri but is not a thing anymore. So no conflict is no conflicting tekst
I love you ryan and nicole
I really enjoy the videos, but you need to find someone who knows how to equalize sound among them; there's such a huge variance in volume from video to video
Love the videos, but the sound mastering is way off. Going from video to video in a row I have to change my volume drastically to get the same sound
(Ryan) Hey thanks for the feedback. We've been experimenting with a lot of different gear and even moved to a new studio at one point but we're getting things settled now so it should be more consistent going forward.
I want a New krenko card in the last set! Asking too much? 😂
niiiiice story time!!!
Still loving you
Best guild gate is ruric tharr’s grull guildgate
Coolest looking Guildgate 100% goes to Simic.
Fum fact theres also a gateway plaza in real life it is located in the Philippines
Listen, all I'm saying is if Kaya survives war of the spark and Teysa doesn't I'm gonna be really sad
Has anyone ever said that you kind of sound like Will Forte a bit?
(Ryan) Nobody has ever said that but it is now my favorite compliment, ever.
I thik.after urza and mishra got be guildgate
Rakdos shows waiting room for the dentist 😆 LMAO LOL
Rakdos has best looking Guildgate.
(Ryan) Found the dentist.
Nah simic
Great
👍
Rakdos has the best guild gate. Change my mind.
I got a Ramos/Jodah commander deck that tries to Maze's End for the win. It's actually not that hard, my secret weapon... Scapeshift. LOL
