Hello! :) I am surprised that there is no review anymore about the Emblaser 2 after something like 2018. Do you think this laser cutter is still on top or is it completely outranked now ? thank you and best regards. :)
Keep your eyes peeled, I will be discussing the Emblaser 2 with its new 10watt diode module very soon, as well as discussing why I get better results with the Emblaser 2, than some of the new more powerful lasers I have been reviewing. That, along with its safety features and support still make it one of the best diode laser units around. Of course thats my opinion, but you did ask :)
@@LaserLivestream Hello and thank you for your reply ! :) I think that, in theory, I would agree with you. The problem is that, in practice, 2 months ago, I finally bought one 10W (I already had a 5W that compeltely broke) and I have been in big trouble with it. Maybe not because of the Emblaser itself but because of the really incredibly bad support of the only dealer in Europe, who is in France. I could in fact never use it so far, but I will tell you later in more details my problems (it's quite a long story). For the moment, I will simply ask you a favor, if possible: in your tests, if you don't mind, could you please try to CUT, from 0.5 mm thick "wood carton", small timber frames with the wood parts measuring about 0.25 mm wide and see how it comes out ? As well, could you try to simply ENGRAVE half through regular "brickish colour" Canson Mi -Teintes art carton (or equivalent; it's about 0.3 mm thick) with bricks measuring 1 mm by 0.5 mm? I could achieve all this really well with the 5W before a piece broke and I ran into hell of prblems. But the support in France is telling me that I am demanding too much to the machine and even their demonstration machine is not well tuned and is unable to engrave 5 parallel lines at a distance of 0.5 mm from each other without wobbling and being not equidistant. I tried to send pictures of my work in UA-cam but any external links makes my comments being erased. I guess I should try to myself post a video with those examples so that it could be found under my own "channel". I would also like to find a way to send you my Lightburn files for trials. Is there any way this would be possible, not only in technical terms, but especially in terms of time spent and annoyance for you ? Thank you and best regards. :)
Hi Amy, Diode lasers use the visible spectrum of light to pass energy to the material. This means that is you try cutting clear or mirrored acrylic, all that will happen is that the energy created by the laser will pass through without cutting. If you want to cut mirrored acrylic, you will need to use a different type of laser.
I do not know of a rotary tool available from Darkly Labs, but I am not an expert on rotating tools with lasers, nor have I tried engraving on bone or coconut, but if you have a sample, happy to try it out!
Thanks for the review. I realise that it is 2 1/2 years old, but what is the quality ofthe 3D printed parts? The casing around the camera (about 4:28 into the video) looks a bit second rate. Very layered. I realise it is layers of filament built up but my Flashforge inventer 2 can do smoother prints. Are the 3D parts PLA or ABS? Thanks
Great video - thank you! Sounds like a great machine. I have a question - Do you know if you get burn marks on the back of the timber? I've had some laser cutting done for me and the intricate bits / areas with lots of adjacent small shapes have caused lots of dark burn marks on the rear of the timber, and I've had to sand the whole sheet afterwards to get a nice finish. I'm looking for a machine for small business plan to make timber model kits, and this is looking like the lead option at the moment! (I was initially looking at getting my products cut overseas in China or so, but now I'm thinking to get a machine and look after the production process myself) Thanks again
I know exactly what it is like to have this happen to your parts. It has to do with heat burning from the laser. I found this method removed all of my issues when it came to charing the cut out parts. ua-cam.com/video/LZlhVezxgXs/v-deo.html What thickness are you cutting your parts from?
Lars Christian I would not go thicker that 2mm on Timber. You will have to run a few tests to work out the best settings. What type of models are you making?
@@LarsChristian Link didn't work :( Why I asked is that there are a number of laser safe wood products that would cut like butter and produce fantastic and strong results.
You can engrave lightly on ABS, but cutting doesn’t work very well with a diode laser. Even with a CO2 laser, ABS needs a lot of fine tuning, or it comes out a gooey mess.
Hello gil, would this machine be able to print and cut various types of designs with precision? I'm already using cricut explore air 2 but am tired with the issues with print and cut accuracy. Also, how fast would it be with paper?
Yes. I cut precision parts for paper models and die cut stickers and they are perfect. The trick is to make sure you have refined markers so that you can get tight alignment when using print and cut. When cutting paper, I can do an a4 sheet in around a minute.
A large number of people have used the Emblaser 2 as part of a small business or startup business. Cutting and engraving speeds depends on materials. What materials are you planning to use?
@@hass8339 Diode lasers use a wavelength that passes through clear and transparent acrylic. Some solid colours and MDF/plywood can be cut, the thicker the material, the higher the number of passes.
Pat McDonald I’d need to know more about the material. Nylon can be cut, but I have never done so as a fabric. Send me a piece and I’ll test it for you.
Hey Gil thanks for the video! I m looking for a laser which can cut red or blue NBR rubber (0.5 & 1mm thick) without any oxide marks. Is it possible with this? Thanks in advance
Have not had a chance to cut rubber with the Emblaser yet. I think it might be possible by taking a few passes at low power so it doesn’t mark. But until I try it, it’s only how I would approach the issue. Hope that helps.
When I first saw this advertised in a catalogue early this year for a bit over $4,000, I was excited to buy one for my Faculty. The Principal even liked the idea. Then I find out that it's not "approved" for use in NSW Dept of Ed schools. The one that is costs almost $20,000. The Principal wasn't ok with that number. I was gutted. Thanks for the review Gil. You've highlighted a lot of the features that made me want to get one. I understand that they are possibly in the process of gaining DET approval, but it's not a quick process apparently.
Hi there, can you please advise where you find information for approved/not approved Laser Cutters. I tried to find information regarding this and found nothing. (I am a NSW Dept of Ed teacher too). I am in a tiny school so our budget it limited and this is all we can afford.
Good review - thanks Gil!
What a great tool Gil! I'm stoked with the possibilities!
Very nice Gil! A new tool is always very exciting.
Great review - thanks, Gil!
