best MES interview online due to the intelligent interviewer. you can tell MES was at ease and felt respected by the good thoughtful questions and the pacing.
This is a genius. One thing I took from this is his need to not engage with the media noise, anything to do with being defined or to be placed within a pre defined context. His ‘function’ as he put it was, I think, just to be himself as an artist/person and to let things come through him in as pure and unaffected way as possible. This is what is lost in the race to ‘win’ or ‘achieve’ in the arts.
Loved, missed and life goes on...my yearly, sometimes twice yearly fall treats no more but fuck me,what a history to play with and bring out into the now. All in all this sometime pain in the arse was a good bloke. Mural in Prestwich great tribute, beyond the need for eulogy.
@@mikeoleary1723 - I can imagine him being good company if you didn't know who he was and just got talking in a bar about something that interested you both.
Martin's a great guy and a good interviewer. Nobody's fool, I think Mark recognises that as he is so open: "I'm from Salford" To me, that's Mark gushing.
I met him on a number of occasions once to interview and he was fine with me. A unique visionary and bandleader who's up there with Sun Ra, Beefheart and James Brown in innovation.
Not sure why none of the comments are showing but anyway....I quite like this interview because, although its awkward like all his interviews, Jet just sticks to trying to elicit some interesting info rather than trying to be clever or get gossip like asking the age old question about his sacking people from the band
"A Prophet knows No Honor in His own Home Town" Hence why Manchester never liked The Fall, according to Mark. They were definitely one of Manchester's Best.
He sounds and looks a bit like that old, incomprehensible drunk guy from The Fast Show who tells all these long winded stories and ends all of them with "...i must admit at the time, i was very, very drunk". Nice interview, some insights!
Mark is trying to stay awake but he's obviously bored to death with this horrible interviewer. So many long silent pauses that Mark has to help him with

Yeah...we got a peek at a relaxed Mark here.

Always come back to this... reminds me of finding an interesting person to talk to in the pub at 11am.

I would have loved to have had a few pints with him...all the best and RIP, MES
Had a couple pints around time of 'extricate' with Mark. He was a gent and only playfully rude. Some say he was getting his teeth into Martin B again.
I knew him around Light User Syndrome. Great company in a surprisingly gentle way. RIP Mark.

What can you say…….. A Fucking Legend…….. Respect to you Mark………. RIP 🍺🍺🍺🍺
Always looks on the verge of laughter. Naturally funny man
I miss him so much already... where’s my yearly fall album goddammit...
RIP Mark. seen The Fall in Liverpool many times
He seemed in a pretty good mood here

Clever, unique and interesting. We miss you, MES ❤
So much speed, so little time. ❤️
Real as it gets... shan't see the likes of MES again...
Genius. Excellent. Nuff said.
The best MES interview I’ve ever seen.
I love you Messi, wherever you are ❤️ rip
the smile he gives after he says "musicians collective", is amazing. Absolute cynic. Love him.
A lot gets said about what a difficult interviewee he was. He seems pretty pleasant and forthcoming here.
Yeah, I imagine it depended on his general mood and whether the interviewer was asking banal, repetitive questions.
I met him on a number of occasions once to interview and he was fine with me. A unique visionary and bandleader who's up there with Sun Ra, Beefheart and James Brown in innovation.
@@SteveGad gormless is spot on. What a dull tw...
All people have to do is treat the man with respect / obviously clueless journalists didn’t do that
I’d the pleasure of meeting him & he was patient & very civil - signing autographs to my name etc
RIP Mark.
I still can't get used to the fact that we're in a post-Fall world now.
@@frankboothsedated.7054 & what a shit world it’s been
It's all to woke these days
@@David-h4z2s. Exactly. And Mark would’ve written about it.
I love him
when he takes a drag on his cig he doesn't exhale what a chad
Still looked well in 2002
So did I. 😂
@@Johnconno Good one!
I was getting layed then
he was lean and exquisite in 85..
Jesus - like a cop interviewing a tertiary witness to a crime but it’s great when MES asks questions himself; keeping himself entertained.
A great interviewee
Great interview
RIP Hip Priest 🥴💞
He was a prophet. RIP MES
The ever-genial Mark E.

It's easy to think of The Fall as not really hailing from anywhere in particular.
"They don't bomb a university, cause they might get some of their own mates." Oof! 👌🏻
So true about intellectuals and rebels. Always intelligent and with a sense of humour.
Telephone Thing's distinctive kick beat and some of its lyrics were lifted from a fan's demo tape sent in.
R.I.P M.E.S
Love it!!
MES looks great here! And seems very patient.. You can tell the interview is a drag when he starts asking the journalist (?) what he was up to in ´77.
What a man. MES the true rockstar.
Interview guy gives away the game. Light user? Didn’t know he was in 24 hr…..come on
LUS really blows
"A layman's ear"!
Irreplaceable.
Flyman and The Fall zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz 😆😆
Giz me the Crampzzz
did The Fall even consider going on without him ?
I saw them with Damo Suzuki on vocals but it was an improvised set
Seriously 🤣🤣🤣
Just a granny on bongos?
It'd be like a church without Jesus

Right🥱
Centre of face collapsing.
Instead of watching this dull interview, just watch their 2015 Glasto performance.
Thanks for turning the volume down, cunts!!!!!!! 🤣🤣

The one chance you get to interview a legend and you come up with the biggest cliché questions you could ask.
He asks some pretty decent set up questions and just doesn’t follow through at all. He ruins his own questions by not engaging.
- Did you see the film "24 hours"?
- Yeah, I was in it.
Embarassing to say the least. Crap research.
MES wouldn't mind as long as the journo got the pints in, but did he or was he a typical right git journo?
