The idea of hungry cackling Indian santa is traumatising me... and I grew up believing that presents were brought by a cave dwelling fairy that rode a dragon (Because my mother decided if us kids needed some bullshit, it would be HER bullshit and no one elses!).

I was laughing my ass off. My mom told me early on that Santa is not real. She said it has always been her giving me gifts and if there is anyone I have to behave for, it's her. That woman would never allow anyone to take credit for her work. Hahahha

As a child, the only thing scarier than Santa was clowns, and today I still don't get the appeal of the latter. Let's face it - when there is absolutely no link between rabbits, chocolate eggs and the crucifixion of a Jewish man 2000+ years ago, why do we expect Christmas and Easter to make sense to other cultures ?
Obviously, you have never run over a rabbit while rushing to deliver fudge to a church social.

My kids knew rather early on that Santa is not real, it's just a man dressed as one in the mall. They also know that the tooth fairy doesn't exist and that I am the one slipping them the money under their pillows.. My Swedish husband said from very early on that we are not supposed to lie to the children.. sometimes this does not work in our favour.. 😅

I REFUSE to EVER go along with the lie of Santa clause. You want to know why? Santa teaches kids that wealth is linked to morality and goodness. If you are good you get presents? Better behavior means MORE presents? No. The reality is if your parents are wealthy you get presents.

It was an amazing set. I was laughing like a mad man. We Indians, nobody ever needed to tell us that santa wasn't real. We somehow knew on our own.
Besides the whole idea of christmas was jerky to us because there was no snow and all our christmas cards had snow fall.
Like what she said is true. Indians never had that emotional connect with the whole idea of santa and christmas.
It never snows, we have a christmas bush for a tree, cakes are over rated, alcohols are a no no, thought of drinking raw egg yolks is repulsive, we are always with our family so a holiday where you get away from your family makes more sense to us....
